    The issue is not having the sex to have the baby. It's the hospital bills, the school fees, the daycare, among other things. Should the baby not be perfect, then the cost grows considerably, because you have to care for the special needs of the child. Not only that but also the indirect loss of income, employment, work and leisure.
    In today's world, the cost of the baby is not in birth, but the 18 years spent caring for it.

      How would it have to do with low birth rates? Low birth rates are the effect, not the cause, the cause is INSANE taxation rates and government growing out of any reasonable proportion both in size and power. Without government taxes and ownership bof land, how much do you think it costs to buy some land and build a HOUSE (NOT just a shitty apartment)? Pennies. How about healthcare, without the government being involved in limiting the supply of doctors, hospitals and medical equipment, and without supporting corporations and their shady deals that drive the price of every little piece of medical scrap so high it might as well be made out of gold, or at least silver? How about the government owned education and higher education, state owned science? The cause of all the problems is that people, at least in the US, forgot that the best times in history had the smallest government with the least regulation. And don't start with the evil corporations with low wages and dangerous working conditions, that's something that still present, even more so in some places thanks to government supporting their children (and corporations ARE a product of the government, recent one too), but the battle for work safety and appropriate labor safety was won by unions of people in the past, NOT the government, and you don't need government overregulation to uphold it, heck, as I said, government is often actually ensuring WORSE labor conditions by now, and also takes about 50% off of the average income American, if not more (in TOTAL , not just income tax, because btoo many people seem stupidly unaware if other taxes)

    This "population collapse" is the best news in my lifetime. The collapse of "civilizations" due to reducing population is only a concern if you feel that modern citified "civilization" made up of hordes of people is a positive thing. I do not........ I see the relentless destruction of the places I have loved. I see relentless endless growth that endangers human survival rather than enhancing it. I see a population that has a choice to either reduce our numbers by choice, or nature will do it for us........... and it will be neither pretty nor pleasant. Ehrlich was right, but his time frame was wrong. Technology has put this off.........but nature has always ultimately been in control, and ultimately will resolve this as it always does with animals that reproduce out of control. I've lived in remote rural areas all my adult life....... and I'm no longer young ;-) ......... I have seen population explosion and collapse of various species repeatedly. The overpopulation is a half lie. For the last two decades the population in DEVELOPED countries has been on the decline, two decades before that it has been largely stagnant. Where the myth of overpopulation originated from is the third world where the leaders of said developed world have been throwing all of their country's money into, and while it might seem nice on paper, because it 'helps people in need', in reality it barely helped anyone and factually just created BILLIONS of needy people that only depend on said money to survive. What happens when they multiply further and yet the money going there dwindles, or worse, disappears completely due to an economic crisis and/or the shrinking developed world population? So yeah, he's right, there's not enough people... In the developed world. And way too much in the developing, who's lives are sustained only with external money.

    There are *SO* many factors involved. The burden of having a child far outweighs the benefits (unless you're rich). Women have become EXTREMELY angry and volatile about sex in general. People work harder and harder, and there is nearly no time for family, let alone friendships and 'leisure'. Both men and women make horrible, uneducated parents by default (unless they 'magically' learn the skills somewhere--which is unlikely). Social media destroys more lives than it builds (by far). Schools and education are in shambles, especially now that technology GREATLY exceeds 'what can be taught' in 6-12 years. More needs to be taught, but children's brains are on overload in 2022 (thanks to the pandemic + social media + technology + lousy parents).
    Personally, the VERY LAST thing I want is another girlfriend or wife, and definitely not another child. I never thought I'd make a good father, and I was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT: I'm not. There are a lot of people waiting to take your place." Under such conditions what normal person would be willing to have more than one child? It is difficult to manage things without a job for a single person, but for someone with more than one small child. There would be women willing to have more children , but they have to work. Let's be honest: there are a lot of women that hate their jobs ,but need the money;raising children is a time consuming thing; most women that had a lot of children didn't have a job, their husband had a decent paying job.

    First, I am a huge Elon admirer. But I think he's got this one wrong.
    1. There are too many people now. The planet is crowded with people, we've taken too much habitat from other animals and plants. IMO our quality of life would be improved were there fewer of us. Half as many or a third as many.
    2. We need to do some research and find out how many women would love to have a child or children if they weren't encumbered by work requirements and economic difficulties. I don't think there would be a problem maintaining a total fertility rate of 2.1, the replacement rate, if women had time and money. Or if the men who want to raise children had the time and money. It ain't about gender.
    3. Elon is busy dis-inventing labor. Autonomous cars are going to put millions of drivers out of work. Humanoid robots, Tesla's latest project, should eventually put us all out of work. A machine that can be built for no more than $10k and work 24/365 for at least ten years will simply replace humans. Period.
    OK, we need a solution for this new reality. A universal basic income seems to be the best solution we have right now. Perhaps we'll come up with something better. But let's assume we have our daily needs provided by the robot fleet. Now people are freed up to be parents, if that's what they want.
    I do not see the population crashing. Bring on the bots, Elon.

      That's somewhat the wrong question.
      Women want to work, many of them. And now due to improved technology they can hold jobs and run households. Women are people, too. They have a desire to achieve just like men.
      Some have to work because the guy they hooked up with doesn't support them. And his children. At a level where the woman can stay home and raise a family.

    • @hashmiarqam
      @hashmiarqam 2 года назад +1

      @@bobwallace9753 Your point in the second paragraph makes sense. But that’s an absolute need and necessity.
      However, for the point that women have the desire to achieve just like men, I feel society has changed our perceptions. Women wanting to fill in men’s roles at the workplace is similar to men wanting to tend to their children and stay at home, because they are people too and also have a genuine love for their kids. But it’s not supposed to work like that. Everyone has their roles. As long as we are giving our 100% in those respective roles, society is going to function smoothly.
      As for the technological advancements that now allow many to work from home, it’s definitely an option, but as long as the idea of raising good, obedient children is given the priority.

    • @bobwallace9753
      @bobwallace9753 2 года назад +8

      @@hashmiarqam
      "It's not supposed to work like that" is simply a statement of "That's how it used to work". Things change. It no longer takes hours per week to beat the family's clothes on a rock to get them clean. Even a child can toss the dirty clothes in a washing machine and turn it on. Meals are cooked in minutes, not hours or phoned for. Someone (men) doesn't need to go down to feed and water the animals and muck out the stable. We get in the car and we (most of us) will soon be punching a spot on our phone screen to summon a robotaxi. Technology means that it is no longer necessary to have two adults to run a home or even to raise good kids.
      And we've never given ourselves 100% to the traditional men/women roles. There have always been women who work.
      I don't know if you realize what you are saying but it sounds to me as if what you are envisioning is a world in which men are the lords and masters simply because of the type of junk they have between their legs. It's old think. It's dying out. We are all becoming equal.
      I would say that our goal should be to allow everyone to pursue their goals and let them try to achieve their personal happiness. If raising children for part of their life would help make them happy then society needs some people like that. To maintain a stable population women need to bear, on average and not individually, about two children in their lifetime.
      I think children should be raised to demonstrate common sense, to appreciate knowledge, and to respect the rights of others. Simple obedience does not lead to creating good adults.

"The Population Bomb" from the 1960's evolved that idea further and caused the UN Population Fund. They still work in poor communities today, sterilising women. There has never been and will never be a cap on the number of people that can exist, human ingenuity has always allowed there to be more people with a higher standard of living. The idea that "human misery can end with the limiting of humanity" is bizarre and frankly disgusting. More human minds attempting to understand the world and create solutions to problems will always result in a better standard of living than less people struggling to keep up with the increasing workload in a declining population. It's tantamount to saying that we should cut out half your brain so that you need less food for your highest calorie requiring organ, it totally ignores your capabilities with that higher resource intake.

      @@adamfleck956 People would be totally unwilling to have more kids if needed. Today the creation of human life is treated as a burden better left to others so that you can enjoy a higher standard of living

    Population decline is a problem for business and armies. It is not a problem for humanity. History has shown us - we can reduce to two!

      There are men paying more monthly child support than I make salary in 1 year. The Government needs to stay out of my bedroom. It's their fault and we all know it. Drastically punishing men for even having kids. Whenever they touch something it always turns to shite. I won't have kids to be used as a pawn for this society or the government, fuk them.

      Less stress when there's a ton of elderly to care for, tons of expenses in the way of pensions, social security, etc, and not nearly enough young healthy people to shoulder that burden?

      You left out the collapse of our social security systems due to increased use by the elderly and less young tax payers.

    I feel this could be the same as over population danger, when the population notices that the population is going down, those that feel bad about having kids may have and extra child.

    Ppl are having less children bc we simply can’t afford them anymore. Back in the days, one salary can provide for a family of 7, those days are long gone.
