Both have a very different view of the world. Elon shares Nikola Tesla's mindset, he's an inventor, a visionary, he sees things in this world change rapidly. Buffet, on the other hand, is uncertain about the tech sector. He's playing it safe and lean more on the traditional way. In this case, he sticks with the old-fashioned oil and gas (just a simple example), which directly hinders Musk's goal.

Warren Buffet doesn’t prefer index funds for his own investing-that’s what he recommends to inexperienced investor. For himself he actually makes large investments in single companies, but only in industries that he understands well. He doesn’t know the tech space all well as banking, manufacturing, and others, so he stays out of tech.

Both are brilliant at what they do. However investing is risk based assett dealing whereas Musk builds superb engineering based problem solving businesses by employing thousands of brilliant engineers. The insurance by musk is based on leading edge inhouse knowledge the competition would kill for.
Buffet is an old man that looks to the future in terms of his experience in the past. Buffet does not understand technology or climate change, he still has fossil fuels holdings. Elon is a younger man that looks to the future. He is a disrupter of the past ways to do things. Elon is helping build a more sustainable future.
I agree. Buffet definitely has good advice that can still be applied today but the times are changing, and fast. Elon has his fair share of mistakes as well but his accomplishments tower of them. I would keep my eyes on Elon but still have Buffet in mind.

At the end of the day it all comes down to valuations and what you pay for growth. Don’t overpay rather under pay with a margin of safety so it over time and you will se an immense amount of wealth.

Bit of an unfair assessment by Joe Rogan. As Buffett got rich, he made all the shareholders of his company rich too. And many companies wouldn’t exist without his and other’s like him’s investments.

Elon Musk's ultimate goal is to get human beings on different planets to survive. Warren Buffett is a business man. EM wants to get the first step (Mars) during his lifetime and has a 100 hours week. WB wants to have fun during his life (as he quotes in many interviews). You can't compare both. But you also can't say that EM is the "better" human being. So what is the answer? I think that both have great mindsets and strong wills to get their things done.
Starting early is the best way of getting ahead to build wealth, investing remains a priority. The stock market has plenty of opportunities to earn a decent payouts, with the right skills and proper understanding of how the market works

Hmmm...I think I'll stick with Buffett. The trash heap of history is littered with guys like Musk. When you add up all the years that Musk has been around, you find that his story is pretty much the same as the Thomas Edisons, George Pullmans, Henry Fords, George Westinghouses, and Guillermo Marconis. All innovative. All successful for a time. All achieved amazing wealth during their lifetimes. But, all of them were brought back down to earth through competition and the loss of novelty. Musk has made his wealth by hyping up his business and benefitting from all of the lemmings who run to get rich on his stock. Buffett is ultra-picky about the value investments he makes and his steady, long term approach. Bottom-line: Most of the people who invest in Musk will not get rich because they are likely to hold his stock even after his company begins to decline. Buffett's investors don't need to worry about that because his fund manages the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio to enable people to buy and hold the stock forever. So far, history has vindicated Buffett.
Berkshire hathaway 20% yearly returns without heavily investing into tech companies. Last time I checked, 43 % of their portfolio is in tech, 40% apple, LMAO. Seems pretty heavily invested to me
that didn't happen until a few years ago. across the decades that berkshire hathaway has existed, it's fair to say they generated the 20% annual return without heavily investing in tech.
I think you just conflated buffet the investor and buffet the advisor/public speaker. He looks at buying a majority/controlling stake in companies except Apple. The diversification advice is for people who don't know or have the same access as him.

One thing you didn't cover is that one of the most crucial differences between the two is that Musk continually affects his net worth by continually directly improving his inovation moat and as far as I know Buffet doesn't get involved with his investments' product strategy. One thing that Buffett (and Gates) do but Musk doesn't (as fas as I know) is get involed with philanthropy.....maybe his move to green energy is the equivalent.

elon isn't dumb, he won't start car insurance company. I've worked in property/casualty insurance industry as a IT consultant and architect. The regulations and complexity of auto insurance takes years to understand. Building a software platform to handle auto insurance isn't trivial and many companies have sunk 100 million into software with nothing to show for it. Many insurance software companies have gone bankrupt trying to build a general purpose system.
Buffet is a numbers guy. Plays the money game better than anyone. Elon creates things, and has started to capitalize on it. Completely different, not a value judgement just very different

Anyone who's followed Buffett a bit knows that an economic 'moat' around a company by his definition is far more infallible than moats around castles were designed to be. When Musk was trying to rise more capital to develop Tesla car business, Warren said that Elon was not able enough to manage a CANDY STORE. And that guy now has been sending astronauts to the International Space Station. NASA was doing it just in Russian Rockets.

I know Buffet has a more diversified portfolio and cash position via his berkshire hathaway compared to Elon's almost entire fortune in few stocks. But i'm gonna use Buffet quote to apply to Elon also: "Diversification may preserve wealth, but concentration builds wealth." "Diversification is protection against ignorance" Buffet's core philosophy of risk management and moat may have more stability and durability compared to Elon's spike volatility. But this is why Buffet's can never catchup to Elon's, assuming that Elon succeed what Tesla and SpaceX try to achieve at the end. Elon's fortune is entirely tied to his execution/performance of his business in Tesla and SpaceX, and also future success. So in a way, he control his own fate/destiny as his fortune live or die with his achievement. SpaceX imo is Elon's masterpiece, this company can only appreciate in value in future decades due to almost zero competitors in private space sector and being way ahead of the pack. He specializes in finding undervalued stocks and buying into them, and then waiting until the market value reflects the true value (which he already knows), the opposite of index investing.

Buffett is an investor. Musk is an investor, a scientist, an inventor, and a manufacturer. The Creator actually builds Society, the investor just profits off of it. Both are incredibly successful when executed correctly... only one drives the highest purpose.

In my observation, Musk has a mission beyond simply becoming rich and powerful. He has vision for species itself, that's why all his enterprises always about the future. Even Paypal. Buffet is more about the value and prosperity itself. None are above the other, but since I have more faith on science, I can say that should one day humanity manage to conquer Mars, Musk is one of the guy we can be grateful for. Are the way they do things fundamentally the same? Not really. In general Buffett invests in companies with other people's money, Musk gets other people's money to invest in his companies. Musk is kind of like that sports athlete of a team you like to watch, and after doing something good instead of acting like he's been there before, he has over the top celebrations, that are a bit too much and gets a penalty called, you still like the player but you want him to just take it down a notch when it comes to celebrating.
Negative press, or creating tension in the press (read: social media) is exactly part of the success formula he's used to become a household name enabling Tesla to sell more in all countries. Another way to look at it, what's Tesla's marketing and PR budget? Do they need one? I remember as a child seeing car advertisements on TV, haven't watched TV in over 25 years, but I don't think Tesla needs to do that, online or otherwise.

Mrs Pamela is obviously the best broker. I invested $3000 with her and made a profit of $35,000 within 14 days trading with her . it was mind-blowing.

Hmmm...I think I'll stick with Buffett. The trash heap of history is littered with guys like Musk. When you add up all the years that Musk has been around, you find that his story is pretty much the same as the Thomas Edisons, George Pullmans, Henry Fords, George Westinghouses, and Guillermo Marconis. All innovative. All successful for a time. All achieved amazing wealth during their lifetimes. But, all of them were brought back down to earth through competition and the loss of novelty. Musk has made his wealth by hyping up his business and benefitting from all of the lemmings who run to get rich on his stock. Buffett is ultra-picky about the value investments he makes and his steady, long term approach. Bottom-line: Most of the people who invest in Musk will not get rich because they are likely to hold his stock even after his company begins to decline. Buffett's investors don't need to worry about that because his fund manages the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio to enable people to buy and hold the stock forever. So far, history has vindicated Buffett.

Berkshire hathaway 20% yearly returns without heavily investing into tech companies. Last time I checked, 43 % of their portfolio is in tech, 40% apple, LMAO. Seems pretty heavily invested to me
that didn't happen until a few years ago. across the decades that berkshire hathaway has existed, it's fair to say they generated the 20% annual return without heavily investing in tech.

One thing you didn't cover is that one of the most crucial differences between the two is that Musk continually affects his net worth by continually directly improving his inovation moat and as far as I know Buffet doesn't get involved with his investments' product strategy.

One thing that Buffett (and Gates) do but Musk doesn't (as fas as I know) is get involed with philanthropy.....maybe his move to green energy is the equivalent.

elon isn't dumb, he won't start car insurance company. I've worked in property/casualty insurance industry as a IT consultant and architect. The regulations and complexity of auto insurance takes years to understand. Building a software platform to handle auto insurance isn't trivial and many companies have sunk 100 million into software with nothing to show for it. Many insurance software companies have gone bankrupt trying to build a general purpose system.

Tbh I think the comparison doesn't make sense about who is wealthier than whom.
I know Buffet has a more diversified portfolio and cash position via his berkshire hathaway compared to Elon's almost entire fortune in few stocks. But i'm gonna use Buffet quote to apply to Elon also: "Diversification may preserve wealth, but concentration builds wealth."

Buffet's core philosophy of risk management and moat may have more stability and durability compared to Elon's spike volatility. But this is why Buffet's can never catchup to Elon's, assuming that Elon succeed what Tesla and SpaceX try to achieve at the end.
Elon's fortune is entirely tied to his execution/performance of his business in Tesla and SpaceX, and also future success. So in a way, he control his own fate/destiny as his fortune live or die with his achievement. SpaceX imo is Elon's masterpiece, this company can only appreciate in value in future decades due to almost zero competitors in private space sector and being way ahead of the pack. As space industry matures, SpaceX will eclipse any company on earth in valuation though Elon may not live long enough to see SpaceX at its peak. Just as Dutch East India Company was once worth 7.8 trillion after it controled the sea trade routes. SpaceX will be the new successor but this time in space and it may take decades or centuries longer.
But it will be his legacy.

Are the way they do things fundamentally the same? Not really. In general Buffett invests in companies with other people's money, Musk gets other people's money to invest in his companies. Musk is kind of like that sports athlete of a team you like to watch, and after doing something good instead of acting like he's been there before, he has over the top celebrations, that are a bit too much and gets a penalty called, you still like the player but you want him to just take it down a notch when it comes to celebrating.
Negative press, or creating tension in the press (read: social media) is exactly part of the success formula he's used to become a household name enabling Tesla to sell more in all countries. Another way to look at it, what's Tesla's marketing and PR budget? Do they need one? I remember as a child seeing car advertisements on TV, haven't watched TV in over 25 years, but I don't think Tesla needs to do that, online or otherwise.
