  • Megachurches, Televangelists, and the Prosperity Gospel... those were things that I had never heard of before... until I stumbled across an infamous interview with Kenneth Copeland by Lisa Guerrero from Inside Edition.
What ensued after was a dive into rabbit hole unlike any other, from corrupt preachers, to lavish lifestyles, to claims of miracle healings, to cult-ish followings, and New Age/New Thought concepts. This... is the dark world of Megachurches.

I'm genuinely asking, not being sarcastic or anything. If people such as yourself have witnessed such distasteful and immoral practices in Christianity, have u ever stopped 2 research the history and origin of Christianity? Not just a simple wiki look up but an actual indepth research in the Roman Catholic Church, Christianity and the truth about the Greeks involvement in the creation of Christianity. @@HaYahwarrior That's a really good question! For me, I would say it's a case of not throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Many people have definitely twisted the Bible to justify their own horrific ideas, and it makes me really angry that they have done that! As Hans mentioned, in the Bible, we find Jesus frequently opposing the megachurch pastors of his day, the Pharisees. Here's an example (forgive the length of it, I just think it does a great job of showing Jesus' take on things):
As Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee invited Him to dine with him; so He went in and reclined at the table. But the Pharisee was surprised to see that Jesus did not first wash before the meal.
“Now then,” said the Lord, “you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. You fools! Did not the One who made the outside make the inside as well? But give as alms the things that are within you, and you will see that everything is clean for you.
Woe to you Pharisees! You pay tithes of mint, rue, and every herb, but you disregard justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without neglecting the former.
Woe to you Pharisees! You love the chief seats in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces. Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves, which men walk over without even noticing.”
One of the experts in the law told Him, “Teacher, when You say these things, You insult us as well.”
“Woe to you as well, experts in the law!” He replied. “You weigh men down with heavy burdens, but you yourselves will not lift a finger to lighten their load."

Yes, sometimes God appears to use a sense of humour. Since when God corrected him, then he went on to preach the gospel, and he could say he trusts God, not because he was rich, but he was poor. He did not take more than he needed for the day. And he gained many followers who with him, lived a life of poverty chastity and obedience and humility. And prayer. It is one of the most beautiful stories I think.

I'm sorry but your statement that your pastor being in a lower tax bracket is extremely wrong. I'm sorry just cause you were called by God to preach his word means that you must live a life a poverty. Now I will say my father is a pastor. He has been a pastor my whole life. Now does that mean that my family has to grow up poor because my father job. My family did happen to be poor and it was extremely difficult on my family. My father would work also close to 60 hours a week. Has to sacrifice his time and his family time to be there for the people to learn about Jesus and help people. Listen I'm honestly sorry that your pastor is forced to be in a lower tax bracket. I would question your church make sure they take care of him and I don't know what your job is. However if you don't have a really great job I would ask to see how much work your pastor actually has to do. You would be surprised. I would just question yourself about why you believe that your pastor should be in poverty. Now I'm not saying that pastors need to be rich like these guys. These guys are scammers using Gods name to make money and they will have to face God one day and tell him why they did this. However I'm asking you to question your reasoning on why pastor need to live in poverty because that like saying Doctor should live in poverty cause getting money to help someone is wrong

The preacher even said "we will only build the new building with donations. If it takes us a decade, it takes us a decade" --> and sure enough, the pastor was extremely transparent and it took forever to build that new church.
"The contractors asked if I wanted stained glass, chandeliers, all these frills... I said I just want comfortable chairs" he'd give little updates like that!

This life we leaving at this moment is pure slavery with out us knowing + we leaving in a dark time sin is all around the world trying to pull us in this demonic life and sadly for most of the population it worked but im here to let you guys know that the truth to happiness is by repent to God ask for forgiveness and and avoid sin. And no it's not by just saying sorry and your saved it's by your actions after you repent to avoid doing sin's so by doing the 2 main things you will see a big improvements in your life you be feeling happy.
It's not every body in the church's that be intrested in doing this because they still want to continue too indulge in there sin live and the sad part they belive there saved but there really not like I said before it's not by just repenting to God that the individual will be saved is by the action you do after that will determine your fath.

    • @AlbertM170
      @AlbertM170 Год назад

@@OPHANIM98 we would say that despite the despicable track record of the Catholic Church and all that it's guilty of, there is simply no evidence of anything resembling widespread manipulation of the Bible.
      How do we know that?
Cause we have thousands of whole copies and fragments of Biblical New Testament texts from the ancient world (a fragment is any copy of a work that has not fully survived to the modern day, so that even a 249-page copy of a 255-page book still counts as a fragment). Greek texts alone number more than 5,000 with another almost 10,000 in other languages, from Latin to Syriac and Coptic.
These documents were all written down when the Christian Church was still very decentralised, long before it had anything even remotely resembling any central authority capable of making uniform manipulation of texts across the Roman Empire. Islam had the Rashidun Caliph Uthman, who was able to create a standard Quran to be used throughout the Islamic world, and then burn any copies that did not agree with what his scholars had created. Christianity had no such person(s) or group(s) that could accomplish anything even remotely similar.
Using these original 'pure' copies, we can conclude that the Bible has remained intact, with only about 40 verses in the entire New Testament in question.
For the Old Testament, it's even easier. We have the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint. These are copies that are even older than the Christian Church. The Dead Sea Scrolls were about as old as Jesus Himself (give or take a few decades) and the earliest version of the Septuagint about 2 centuries older.
The Dead Sea Scrolls contained multiple copies of almost every book of the Old Testament in Hebrew, and had remained undisturbed for almost the entirety of Christian history. The Church cannot manipulate what it doesn't know exists.
The Greek Septuagint is so widespread among Jews and Christians that we have too many copies from the ancient world to have been changed uniformly at any point.

I knew an old preacher whose greatest fear was that someone might think he was doing it for the money, He kept a regular job to pay his bills and take care of his family. He drove old cars that he worked on himself. He knew one day he’d be gone and the church would have to pay someone, so to train them for that he took a salary - and gave it back,
He hated passing the plate and rarely did it. Instead, at the end of the service he’d say, ‘the offering plate is by the door if you want to use it.
I guess a lot of people would say he went too far. But it’s clear why he never had a “mega church.”

According to Islamic teaching one has to give 2.5% of his or her excess wealth each year to needy... Six types of people are not entitled like, father, grandfather, son, daughter, mother, and the last category is Family of Prophet (these people, one can give gift) .... The most important ones are ones' relatives like brother, sister, uncle, aunts and the community... Then the poor student who study Islamic teaching and mostly cannot earn enough due to studies...Then so on... So the money received by church must be used in helping poor among church members and in community and not to make the priests more wealthy....

While he does appear to have a love for God, His Word, and miracles, he blatantly misuses scripture and professes heretical doctrine such as the Kenosis theory way too often to be ignored. During 2008 my oldest brother sold drugs because he never wanted to be poor again and because as an atheist he would have not been able to be blessed by giving to the church. I struggled with endometriosis and never felt better through prayer. All pastors i know personally, through my parents, have terrible relationships with their children. They act as if they are superior and that if their children don’t work in the ministry these children are disappointments or even demon possessed. Most of these pastors are also abusive to their children. Child protective services showed up at my house at least 1 to 4 times a year till I was 18. I went to a megachurch. We were young newlyweds and we didn't have much money. We had a new baby. The church wanted to build a newer, bigger sanctuary, but they wanted to pay cash. We were exhorted to tithe our gross income (so that God would give us a gross blessing), PLUS give offerings. We gave, and it was difficult. When the sanctuary was done, I was glad we could keep our money now. But then the pastor said, "Now that you know you are capable of giving, you need to keep giving at that amount". And you can be sure: the pastor and the staff all had nice homes, nice cars, nice suits, and nice things. But we felt guilty and materialistic if we spent our money on anything even halfway nice for ourselves. We were doing all our shopping at thrift stores and discount groceries. That was a long time ago. We don't to go church anymore, and our policy is not to give money to people who have MORE than us. We give our money to people who help widows and orphans in 3rd world countries. They truly do need it, and appreciate it.

@@nickobryant01 In all my life, there has been no institution as apostate and corrupt as the Catholic church. Putting the pope as "head of the church" undermines the purpose of Christ and His work. No fallible man can speak for Christ but Christ alone. Praising and praying to the saints and angels is a blatant disrespect to God, who demands all glory. The invention of purgatory, apart from not once being mentioned in scripture, undermines the entire purpose of the consequences of sin, and when you remove purgatory from the equation, Catholicism immediately becomes a very hard sell, because Catholicism is presupposed on faith by works, which no matter how much you try to stack up, no good work or ritual or infant baptism or false forgiveness by confessions to priests can earn your way into Heaven as you will always be deemed lacking; the long short is there will never be assurance of salvation by Catholic standards. The Catholics themselves knew this, and is why they had their dissenters exiled and killed. So no, they are not, and never will be the one true church.

One day on a Saturday evening service, the pastor asked everyone to raise both their hands in worship to God and raise them high and close our eyes. I didn't do any of it because at that point I was ready to leave, but when I looked around and saw everyone with their hands raised and their eyes closed, I saw that these people weren't praising God... they were praising the man on stage. Their hands reached out toward him, and he looked like he was soaking in all of the praise and worship for himself. I couldn't fake worship if I tried, and for that people did not like me and it made it very hard to be in that internship because all of the fakenes about that church never sat right with me and I always called it out.

The writers of the bible were just men like you and I. Just because their identities have been abstracted away and the book is old doesn't mean some divine being orchestrated it....... The bible is nothing more than Jewish origin stories and folklore mixed with some history that have just been taken as fact by it's followers.
You're Nigerian so you probably hail from a tribe with it's own creation story and indigenous religious belief system.
The entirety of Christianity is akin to your tribe's stories. Certain events in history just took place to cement the Jewish religions as the most valid. And it has been constantly perpetuated and reinforced from generation to generation.
Heck, your ancestors were most likely practicing their indigenous religions for thousands of years before seemingly superior slave traders and colonisers came with advanced technology, medicine and a "superior" religion to go with it.
Paul Adefarasin, Adeboye, Joshua Selma and many others are just as deluded as the rest of the preachers in the video. If Christianity were to have been swapped out for Hinduism, they'll be preaching on a different side, same goes for you. If you were born deep within Mecca, you'll most likely be a hardcore Muslim and you'll hold your beliefs till you pass.

My mom had a severe case of MS for about 15 years. My dad followed and sent money to these guys the whole time. Especially Hinn. They ended up going to one of his events, tried to go up to the stage, and they were not allowed on stage. She was in a wheelchair btw. He followed and gave $ to these guys, and to a local guy who did a similar thing. She ended up dying a couple years after that. The worst part is because of this teaching, they hesitated a long time to get her medical treatments. The whole thing was bullshit and horrible, and he still watches some of these guys. Oh yeah, they would tell her, and in turn my dad, that she wasn’t getting healed because she didn’t have enough faith. Telling her that as she’s crying all the time.

I was part of Hillsong church for years. I was a new Christian back then and I didn’t know any better. The amount of exploitation and abuse that goes on is mind blowing. They had us at 7am setting up auditoriums and stadiums for conferences which we then had to pay $100s to attend while the leaders were flown in on Singapore Airlines suites and staying at luxury hotels. It was drilled into us that God demanded excellence and therefore we had to give all of our time, money and strength to make sure conferences were “perfect” . It was unbelievably cliquey and toxic.

I'm Christian, but I've never thought of my faith as belonging to one group, or one church, or one people. To me, Christianity is a personal relationship with me and Him. I don't exactly subscribe to "ALL RELIGION BAD" but at the same time the abuse of religion to control people or for personal gain has always left a bad taste in my mouth, and it's one of the reasons I don't go to church at the moment. IMO the smaller the church, the less likely it is to be a bad one. Big churches often get really... weird.
One of the things I really appreciate about your videos is that rather than explicitly saying X or Y, you simply introduce criticality. A lot of people will take this video to further their confirmation bias against the abuse of religion for power or money or the existence of religion at all, but I love that all you're trying to do is make people double take on these kinds of things. It resembled a mall food court, complete with skylights, numerous tables and chairs, gifts shops and bookstores, sandwich shops and coffee stands (all of which were staffed by unpaid volunteers) and there were ATM kiosks everywhere--but they didn't dispense any cash. They were designed solely to take donations from your debit card to the church. It was obscene, a monument to capitalism.

Your reflection on Luke 9:1-5 and James 3:1 offers a thoughtful perspective on the priorities in sharing the message of God. Here’s a refined version of your thoughts, keeping the essence of your message:
In Luke 9:1-5, Jesus empowers His disciples with authority to heal and proclaim the kingdom, emphasizing the importance of faith over material possessions. The directive to travel light-without money or extra supplies-highlights that money is the least important factor in spreading God's word.
It can be disheartening to see some individuals in ministry prioritize wealth, but I remind myself that I am also a sinner. It's not my role to impose judgment; that belongs to God alone.
As James 3:1 states, “Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.” This serves as a humbling reminder of the responsibility that comes with teaching and sharing God’s message.

Im glad you pointed out how the pastors come out like celebrities. This is actually very telling about the wider church itself (Jonathan Pageau actually talks about this brilliantly). When the church is organized like a concert area where the "pews" lead down to the "stage", the service is treated more like entertainment then a true humble act of worship. No one is being challenged to participate in something higher. Instead, they are subconsciously being led to be entertained by their charismatic preacher who gives them a show.
