To make a piece of art archival, you need a lightfast medium that stays on the archival substrate. Graphite and charcoal are the best, in my opinion. They're very lightfast, they might require a fixative or need to be put under glass so they don't get smudged but that's not really necessary. 100% cotton paper is archival. Any wood pulp paper will eventually become acedic and yellow. If you want to make colored paintings archival, you have to choose colorfast pigments in whatever medium you choose. Lots of other media can be archival, but I disagree that acrylic is the best since it can break down with uv exposure. You have to protect it from the sun. Also, the acrylic paint is only lightfast if the pigment used is lightfast, so it's the same as colored pencils, oil paints, and even gouache in that respect. The binder is only important if the paper or canvas can't hold on to the media without the binder. Paper can hold on to graphite, charcoal, watercolor, pastels, and colored pencils very well, so the ability of the binder to hold the pigment onto the substrate does not matter.

White background really made a difference in comparative value. Nice job. Very interested in the Get Sketchy wet medium program. I hope that becomes reality. Love your channel.

I have a question about the course offerings. Is this acorn video an example of the lessons in the courses? It seems as though it's watching you do something you already know how to do, with a few comments about what you're doing, with lots of entertaining conversation, but very little instructions. Is there an example we can see of one of your actual lessons? Thanks.

      HI Barbara,
Gettin' Sketchy is a live show that is meant to be entertaining with a little instruction sprinkled in. The courses are quite different since they involve finished art work, polished videos, and heavy instruction. They also include illustrated ebooks which break down each part of the art making process. There is a link in the description below this video where you can check out three course videos and ebooks for free. Theses videos will give you an idea of what the course videos are like.
