Why don’t automakers include a lifetime warranty with their lifetime fluids?
because there's no such thing as lifetime fluids. it's a marketing scam.
@@joeschleppI fully agree with you, they’re pushing lifetime fluids, and sealed transmissions/differentials, they should give us a lifetime warranty if they have that much faith.
Because they haven't defined what a Lifetime is in terms of the machinery using these fluids.
@@Fadic4 Toyota recommends changing the transmission fluid at 60k if you're using your truck like a truck. What lifetime situation are you referring to?
Because the average owner doing it themselves screw up the tranny more often than helping it. Adding to much, adding the wrong fluid, using tranny flush, etc. If it was so bad, why are there fewer and fewer issues compared to cars 15-20 years ago?
I have a 2023 Tundra SR5 4x4 Crew MAX. In the 12 months of ownership, I have had absolutely no issues. What really floors me is all the hysteria over the Toyota issues, but people shrug off the 30 years of issues, or longer with GM/Chev, Dodge/Ram, and Ford. I am 60, and purchased my first new truck in 1984, and have owned the Big 3 North American brands until last year. I wanted a change and I am not the least bit disappointed.
Years of GM displacement on demand causing $8k repairs, engine lasts long enough to get out of warranty.
Wait until you need an engine replaced at 40K miles lol!!

Exactly. Every video "car industry is ruined". "Toyotas fallen apart on the road!". yada yada yada. Hell there still aren't as many vehicles available for sale as there was pre pandemic, but "the lots are overrun with vehicles".
How soon we forget that virtually all of the original vids discussing failed Tundra engines were accused of being clickbait as well and look where we are today. It's too soon to declare no issues with the Taco transmission. Wait a year before stating that there's no inherent issue because as of today you know nothing.

@@jimmyjohnson6232 No such thing right now in my opinion. Inflation has been causing prices to rise so fast and so far that until your pay catches up or prices come down, it's better to wait it out. Used prices are starting to come down but have a long way to go. I imagine that once manufacturers start offering true base models on the lot, that it may be a better time to buy.

Actually, the rust issue was more on the C channel frames. The real issues is that they would rivet doublers inside the C channel and water would sit between the doubler and frame and accelerate corrosion. The later years of the Tacoma had a bead of sealant on the top edge of the doubler to help keep water from getting in between the two where the earlier ones did not.

Look back at the 2000 model year 4.7 tundra transmission issues. I own one that had a transmission replaced at the dealer. Aisin transmission with a thrust bearing issue. The replacement transmission has successfully gone almost 300k miles.
The Tacoma TRD Pro could be the best truck in the world...if not for its nearly $70K price tag...BEFORE dealer markup. $10-12K more than a Ranger Raptor is insanity.

@@donjuan2105 i was speaking in facetious terms on the Tacoma. It is woefully inferior to the Ranger Raptor BUT $12K more. And before the Toyota fanboys come for me on resale and reliability, well...Toyota is having some rough waters at the moment. Plus Ford Raptor products hold value very well.

@harolddenton6031 I can go get a Ranger Raptor from several dealerships here In NJ for msrp. Not every dealer is marking them up. And if you want to go that route the TRD would be marked up over $80k
Similar things were said early on about Tundra engines, just a few here and there. 2 years later we have a recall. Will have to wait and see.

My brother is a transmission specialist. When I found out my Tundra didn’t have a trany cooler l was upset. The sticker said it did. My brother told me not to worry that just what you said the new trany fluids are designed for higher temps. Just change it more often is your using it doing a lot of towing. I live where summers are regularly 110 and I tow. So I change it every 30k. No issues.

However, many internal components, such as the O-rings and solenoids, fail sooner proportional to the heat.
@@jamesemanner9671 I would think the same. Toyota pulled off their transmission cooler for a few years. I’m going to be curious to see what kind of reliability reports we hear from that decision.

Noticed when i was looking to buy a 2024 GMC canyon AT4X just like you said both the newer 2023 and 2024 had reports of transmissions failing within 1000 miles or lower, while others had no issues. Bad parts def can happen.
GM openly admitted the issues sooner and addressed them. Even going as far as having a stop sale at one point. Also the trucks affected were in the single digits in most cases and not many more on other issues. Solution on the motor issue was a complete replacement. GM has been doing what Toyota has done in the past.

@@desertstriker8 I agree. Some are doing better than others right now and people are used to Toyota leading the way in bad situations. Not to mention I think some RUclipsrs are afraid to be overly critical because it can impact their channel which is their lively hood in some cases.
I waited for my AT4X through the stop sale and so far it's been great. So I'm fine they held it to make sure it was good to go.
After researching I purchased the titan pro4x 5.6 litre very happy with it

I can't seem to find anywhere, so I'll ask here. Is the transmission in the 2024 tacoma M6 or automatic, still the Eisin transmission?
Do you feel that the interior fit and finish is comparable or better than the 2023? I wanted to drive off the lot in a new truck but was disappointed after the test drive. I have a 22 4runner an my father a 23 Tacoma and this 24 truck had tailgate gaps not symmetrical and things like loose glove box door, cheap plastic door cards and even a cheap glasses holder. The only reason I ended up in the echo chamber is my curiosity about the stuff I couldn't see on this $47k model I drove. Anyone saying "It's a truck dude" is insane because at that price brand new, it needs to have a higher quality than the previous year or a Nissan that is $10k cheaper.
I haven’t seen a Tacoma built poorly myself.

Tim good job! I went and looked at the 2024 Tacoma and think it looks good interior looks good and port and direct injection. Only issues I saw were fit and finish on tail gates etc and overall. There were also some repainted frames in some parts at the dealership. Other than that people are complaining about a lot of Bs to get you tube views!
Tim, on the topic of the transmission cooler, it isn't necessarily the worry that the temp is going to ruin the fluid or it's lubrication properties, it is the concern that the increased persistent heat the transmissions parts (gears, seals, solenoids, etc) are going to be bathed in over years will reduce the life of them and the long term reliability that these transmissions have been known for.
Exactly. From the 1970's - early 2000's Toyota 3, 4 & 5 speed auto transmissions had fluid temps in the 130-175 degree range during most driving conditions, hence gear, seal, solenoid, etc. life was measured in multiple decades and multiple hundreds of thousands of miles. Then with the introduction of 6 speeds and WS fluid, fluid temps rose to the 165-195 degree range and the current 8 speeds run temps of 185-205 degrees and transmission failure is routine around 130,000 - 190,000 miles unless the owner gets on an aggressive fluid change interval schedule.
I have yet to find information about transmission parts having less life due to the higher temps.

Let me be very, VERY clear. Transmissions now run at higher temperatures. I have not seen that correlated with transmission parts failing.
Overheating the transmission for long periods of time should cause parts to fail.

I agree that many of these recent issues with Toyota or any other manufacturer are more the cause of bad suppliers parts. Many of these parts companies haven’t been the same since Covid imo
Tim, I really appreciate your point of view. I have a 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport....I love it and was thinking about maybe getting a new one. My current Taco has 88K miles with no issues other than normal Wear & Tear. I don't like that they have discontinued the V6 and I'm not sure I want their current boosted 4 cylinder motor. So I will watch this with interest to see what way it all goes...
Tim, there are likely many reasons Toyota is experiencing a rough patch, but the consumer must remember the vehicles on the market today are among the most technically complex in the history of the industry. Not by choice but due to regulations and consumer demands for a myriad of features.
Mr Car Care Nut discussed this recently and he is correct. This doesn't mean that they cannot be made better but with this added complexity it will take even longer to reach a stable level of QC. There is no getting around this.
That's a smart process for producing frames. I bet its more expensive as you are adding extra steps to produce them.
the new box frames have a wax coating sprayed on some parts of the interior for corrosion protection injected thru the holes at least on the new land cruisers they do.
Yes, noticed on an LC video. However, LC's are built in Japan, and definitely pricier than the Taco. It would be REALLY interesting to know if the corrosion protection is the same for the Tacoma..
I think a lot of the negativity is coming from people who own the competition, Toyota owners have contently said how superior their vehicles are to other manufacturers, I have owned GM vehicles, Subaru vehicles and presently have an F150 with the second gen 2.7 and have had great reliability with all of them. Putting 300,000 miles on a GM and a few Subaru's. With the number of vehicles that the manufactures produce, there will always be a small percentage that will have an issue, the concern is how quickly can it be addressed, and the vehicle given back to the customer in a timely manner. At this point I would not purchase a Tundra or Tacoma truck until the problems are solved.

About to buy one today. Not too worried. Gonna drive it like I mean it. My dealer ship gives a lifetime warranty on the power train so…if something happens eh it’s covered. It’s a new generation things are bound to go wrong. People complain about the engine…yes they should have made an optional v6 but it drives great.

As a owner of many Toyota's over the year's, the 2022 Tundra and 2024 Tacoma you can really see the cost cutting to make more money. Toyota is really losing the reliability game in my opinion.

There's no cost-cutting. The lower trims of Tundra are there to save Bubba a few bucks.. the top trim Tundra has the classic Toyota/Lexus fit and finish inside...
One of the major issues are the many Toyota fan boys online that have been chanting about the reliability of Toyota. The followers used this as an excuse to buy more vehicle than they need because of “reliability” compared to other brands. People with an $800+ payment with a lemon motor/transmission feel like they’ve been scammed.
That's why toyota failing is such a big deal. They are resting on their reputation and it's falling apart.
Every manufacturer has problems and every makers has fan boys, this is nothing new and the world isn’t ending 🤣

I remember this same conversation when the new Tundra came out and a few had turbos failing…..it’s no big deal, it’s a supplier issue…..only a handful had this happen…..now look at Tundra with engine issues.
With your logic, since everyone is talking about how over priced these trucks are, we should see a reduction in MSRP. Hell will freeze over first. How about getting rid of the TRD Pro seats, the removable Bose speaker, and that stupid auto tail gate. They should add about 200 more pounds of plastic to the interior. Current models need to look even cheaper.

You know, I am not going to complain about my Tacoma. Yesterday I found out I needed a new transmission. I was upset then, but it is a 2007 with 175,000 miles!

Hey brotha. The first Tacoma you explained is mine. If you want more info you can reach out. There’s definitely some that aren’t being reported to nhtsa. I personally know 6. But I agree with your analysis. First year failing is def going to happen. The biggest problem is not taking care of me with not putting me in a vehicle (a loaner) when it did fail. Atleast take care of people
My opinion is, I don’t think Toyota engineers drove it in real world scenarios to the limits of the vehicle can handle after listening to you I think you’re right on spot. Every new model year has problems but we have RUclips and social media it goes viral in minutes are hours but the quality Toyota Tacoma‘s have gone downhill in the past couple of years. Sorry that’s a fact. I had multiple problems with my 23 Tacoma. But Toyota dealership fixed it for me. It should not have left QC with the problem. That’s the biggest issue.

TFL truck broke the front differential the first time they used it off road in 4wd. They just posted a video that they are already selling their TRD Off road already after just getting it in February. I’m so glad I bought my Frontier Pro 4x.

Thanks for that video and I think you're right Tim. YT community needs to chill out about those recalls and verify their sources, all manufacturers included. Also when there's a trend, like we have now with Toyota's recalls, all channels getting into that trend to have more views. When i'ts not Toyota, it's Stellantis, it's EVs, it's bla bla bla... I have enough of this circus.

Same damn thing happened with the turbo gate on the Tundra. Did that result in a recall like everyone claimed? Nope. Toyota fixed them one by one and know you didn’t hear about it.
No just having the transmission cooler gone has shown problems from all brands, also that's cooperations pushing the oil not changing never you need to change it.

Tfl had run two different trucks lke test or just towing ford and chevy. They both had over heating problems but it was back in 2020 or 19..?

@@CarShopping101 I’m waiting to see reports from 2019-2020 Tundra trucks. I’ve yet to hear about transmissions frying. Toyota took out the cooler for those model years since they stated they didn’t need the part to meet their temperature specs:

Other advantage of buying early model year vehicles -- you get the longest possible stream of OEM parts for the life of the truck. There's parts I'm starting to have trouble finding for older vehicles (15+ years old), and these are not shitmobiles. These are 200k+ mileage daily drivers that will have stuff fail from time to time. There comes a point when you can't get the OEM supplier parts and you're stuck with some Dorman crap.
Appreciate this video. My Tacoma has been fine. I think the negative press is just being blown way out of proportion.

Just saw a new article posted on CBS 2 hours ago about Ford recalling 550,000 F150s for going into first gear no matter how fast you are going. So yeah, it does happen to all the manufacturers.

Honestly, by a Jeep Gladiator. Albeit not perfect but its one of, if not the best buy right now. Overall a very good truck with no turbo tuning issues and a VERY good transmission.
You might not be able to find the "wheresneutral" guy if Toyota had the video already taken down. They did this with techs who posted videos of the tundra engine failures. Toyota is in damage control.... Tundra has been out two years now and still suffering from some of the original issues when released... There is no excuse for this.

Tim the transmission may have been used for a few years, so? You now have a turbo engine the not only makes almost 50% more torque, it makes it a lower in the RPM band. The load on the transmission has greatly increased.
Fluids and change recommendations are to get you past the warranty only. Every vehicle made has a environment impact. The longer intervals for fluid replacement lowers the amount of used fluids per vehicle. Funny thinking with this. Less used fluids that need to be processed. However, more failed engines, transmissions and other driveline components 😂.
What's frustrating is that Toyota is very popular. Meaning it's out there in large numbers so the blast radius is wide. Brother in law had his rusting Tacoma frame replaced and sold it after it was fixed by Toyota. Current neighbour has a Tundra on current recall and co-worker bought one of these manual Tacomas ... yeah, the odds are not all affected vehicles will suffer, but somehow it's just continuous. I've 2 Honda Ridgelines and besides one sub-frame recall + check - nothing. I was always told Honda rust faster and are cheaper than Toyota, but maybe the law of large numbers dictates the most sold vehicles are prone to get defects found faster

My 2024 Tacoma transmission went bad at 700miles
Good video. When an automaker has a recall a lot of the time it's not even a part they made that failed it ends up being a part made by their supplier but the automaker is the one that takes the blame. So if Toyota's are having transmission problems they'll take the blame even though someone else made the transmission. like I tell everybody never buy the first year of a new transmission or motor 🙂
There are a couple of guys on youtube getting large followings at the moment trashing tacomas. I seriously think they are just making junk up.
Moving the Tacoma from Texas to Mexico was a mistake. They won't have the quality, fit & finish, etc.. That plant is new and it will take time for it to get it working properly. The fact that it's a new model only complicates that plants issues.
FEA (Finite Element Analysis) is what all mech engineers do… They then go in a strengthen the weakest areas, rinse and repeat.
In the Rust Belt thin frames rust away faster than thick frames.
Alot people who comment on frames being thin know nothing about frames they are made of ultra high strength steel its thin but extremely strong
Most expensive and the most important is the drive train and it's the whole works on these trucks ,motor,tranny and the rear end
I only put 1700 miles on my 2024 tacoma and the transmission failed and it took a month to replace it

I agree with you. There's been too much "the sky is falling" stuff lately. I have a Aisin 8spd auto transmission in my 2012 diesel VW Touareg with more than 250,000 km on it, and I tow a 5,000 lb rv trailer, and it's been fantastic. No issues. Also too Toyota has been making turbocharged motors for multiple decades internationally. They are not new to this. As well, the Lexus LS was the first vehicle to debut with the 3.4TT motor, and there's been little chatter about that on RUclips. They will sort this out. Not worried. Looking forward to a Tacoma hybrid one day.
2015 Toyota is not 2024 Toyota. The company is dealing with a MASSIVE emissions cheating scandal that is a huge deal in Japan. On top of that, Aisin had severe quality issues on 2022-23 Ram 3500 transmissions that caused most to be replaced under warranty. Toyota is a huge conglomerate that was soon enough to face quality woes that most mega carmakers do over time.
The vendors that supply parts and components to the manufacturers? They are made to the manufacturers specifications. They are sent back to the manufacturers for testing and evaluation. The manufacturers would change specifications as needed. Keep in mind that the manufacturers dictate how much they want to pay per unit.
There is little quality control becausd it cost to pull every part and check. I saw this coming in the Late 90's.
This is why it is not recommended to buy a new model Toyota for 2-3 years. In the case of the new Tundra, make that 5 years. For the Tacoma, until proven otherwise, I will check back in 2027... Toyota has had a few new model issues since the 1990's. Hopefully they continue to stand behind their products and fix all these issues (Tundra, and Tacoma). I will be waiting and seeing, and it helps that my 14 Tundra with a 5.7 v8 is running fine

My transmission is perfect on my 2024 tacoma TRD off-road I've had it for 2 months now I agree with you some of these channels keep putting a bunch of crap out there then people start adding more stuff when don't even have the new tacoma

I can't find it so it doesn't exist. Plenty of RUclipsrs complaining about overheating. Plenty of other forums with complaints. I'll wait for the video that talks about Tacoma transmission problems. It won't be long.

I would just say the quality of everything is going downhill...currencies around the world are losing purchasing power so things have to be made with cheaper components and materials.
That's a fact. And we are just becoming normalized to inferior quality. Which is bad. Why would they ever go back.
I'm not seeing the problem with these Gen 4 Tacoma's. All makes have issues, all makes have winners. If you want greater reliability then you sacrifice features - that's universal. Get a manual, crank windows, 6-cylinder inline 4.0 if you want reliable.
As for the TRD Pro, people point at $65,000 as if that's the only model they make. Believe it or not the SR5 (let's just skip the SR) can be had for $40,000 new.
The problem is the perceived cheapness and made like glass. Things have broke that shouldnt have under very easy conditions
In the case where the parts aren’t available for an extended period time for a warranty repair and the vehicle is unusable there is a case for buy back under a lot of states lemon laws. Good video. The numbers don’t lie. It’s easy to say all these trucks are 💩 but not back it up with data. As far as transmission temps in Toyota transmission The Car Care Nut in one of his videos pointed out that Toyota transmissions don’t work well a lower temperatures and goes on to say if an aftermarket cooler is installed it should have some sort of thermostat control to keep from over cooling the transmission. People come up with all kinds of 💩 when in reality they don’t know what the F they’re talking about. When someone puts content out it’s wise to question their credentials before accepting what they say as absolute truth!
You glossed over the part of the video where he talks about Toyota detuning the manual transmissions Tacomas.
What’s the issue with that? I didn’t think it’s worth mentioning since it’s been public knowledge for a year now.

@@Pickuptrucktalk I’m not an engineer or a transmission expert, but I am someone who appreciates overbuilt powertrains. With that being said, what about the people that want to tune their taco’s, are they SOL? I remember when Toyota used to offer TRD SC’s for the 1GR-FE V6 and the transmission wasn’t a concern with that.
@@adamg3911 I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t tune the truck. Turbos are great for tuning. Why would you think the transmission would be the weak link? Aisin has built robust transmissions for decades.

I always buy first year cars from Toyota and have issues and they always make it right , lastly my wife’s 2024 grand highlander hybrid max which had a shudder issue since day one on low speed and Toyota end up replacing transmission at 3 k miles and gave me 10 years / 100k miles platinum warranty on it , reason I stick with Toyota , they always make it right and stick behind their product

I've never seen so many new Tacomas and Tundras sitting on dealership lots. Most of Toyota customers aren't buying their trucks.
