Trading my coyote will ALWAYS feel like a mistake, unless im fortunate enough to acquire another one. Throttle house is the best car channel on the net in my opinion.
Just as in the 1970's we had randomly stacked gauges and switches surrounded by fake wood ...now we have randomly stacked screens more haphazardly placed than a NASA desk.
The Mustang's interior has always been basic as well as Ford in general but you just can't deny that sound and raw power that the manual version gives you regardless of the limited horsepower it was always a blast to drive.
I think the reason for that steering is just them wanting to give us a means to still get to the crowds... They felt the mustang needed to stay a mustang😅
I just can't believe they still put that sh*t box transmission in it. And now those screens literally taped onto the dash. Ford has really stopped trying and it's painfully visible.
I have a 2022 manual. I have to say that my biggest gripe with the new one is the screen in front of the steering wheel. I can configure my gauges the way I want but still get the illusion I’m analog. That said, hats off to ford for keeping a manual v8 alive in the days of electric and paddle shifters.
I wouldn’t mind the tablet size screens if they were meant to be easily upgraded in the future. Otherwise they should be integrated better into the dash.
100% agree with them being integrated better. This is becoming more and more common in new cars and it's horrible looking. I don't get who is coming up with these ideas and who they are asking opinions of. Also when they start putting everything into the screen like climate control and everything it's worse than texting and driving at that point.
From someone who has owned a 2019 GT350 and a 2022 Mach 1, they are asking for steering feel from the wrong version. Those two have it and then some as I am sure the Dark Horse does too.
The way I simplified it your feet connect you to the rear wheels and your hands connect you to the front. When you are driving a sports car it should be firm. It should be solid you should feel resistance and you force the front tires to pull you where you want to go.
I was one of the ones that paid $50,000 for the Ford Thunderbird V8 in 2002, and thought I must be crazy, which proved to be true when I sold it 2-years later for less than half what I paid. This one seems a little better.
I honestly just think that Ford wants the GT to be a comfortable cruiser with a lot of power, while the named cars like the Mach 1/Dark Horse/Shelby's are the actual sports cars. It's felt like this for a while now. They should definitely do a better job at calibration when it comes to weighting up the steering wheel after selecting a sport/race mode though.
@ojdajuiceman6139 The Mustang and the Camaro are literally the same thing except the camaro is a little better on the track and the GT is a little better in a straight line. Mainly because they use Fords transmission.
@@burgerbandit3646o man the mt82 "fords transmission" is shit, do your research lol, Matter of fact the tremec in gms cars is so much better, ford had to put it in their track cars... also the autos are shared between cars and were co developed so you cant say ford is better there.
These guys are next level on their reviews. Always a joy to watch. I've been hard on this new Mustang, but all the black is a good thing. Get rid of those screens all together.
Spot on comment on the steering feel. It’s one of the fundamental ingredients of driving fun. My Audi has the same issue, massive grip but little confidence because of little feedback
@@tmoney1329 yeah I don’t know what people are talking about when they talk about the steering on a mustang I don’t have a brand new one but I have a 2016 5.0 and it handles great on curves🤷🏻♂️
I love the idea behind the screens but I think they nailed it better with the S550 digital gauge cluster. It was actually made into the dash. I really really REALLY dislike the whole IPad screen trend that automakers are chasing. You can’t find a new car nowadays that doesn’t have this design, and if it doesn’t, it’s only a matter of time before it does 😒
I like screens, but this is too much. I love my truck I have an analog gauge cluster with a 7” screen in between. I also like when they’re integrated into the dash. This just looks glued to the dash.
I like how The Sketch Monkey puts it: I’m all for the screens and the new tech, but they need to retain the housing for the gauge cluster screens and have the infotainment screen integrated into the dash. Greetings from Jamaica 🇯🇲🙂
Especially considering the price and power hike... I assumed a Tremec would've made it's way in there. The MT82 had issues way back when the 5.0 was producing 412hp. Even my old 2000 Camaro SLP had a Tremec...
@@Foxx488 I wouldn't be surprised if they did that on purpose. To try to get the people who know about cars to push them into the more expensive dark horse trim.
Thanks guys, Thomas I love your feedback on driving dynamics, I care too much about a car's handling and I do track days. I always had the same issue with the Mustang and sad to see it's still there... Many other reviewers said steering is sharper and more precise, but no-one mentioned anything about feedback and feel.. Love your stuff man, keep it up
Totally agree. Was looking for comments specifically about the new mustang's steering, which most others praise it being sharper it's unfortunate to hear it's worse in feedback and weighting. Thank you Thomas for pointing that out and makes me want to treasure the steering feedback on my 2015 manual mustang even more 😂
I really felt the pain and sorrow from the observed lack of steering feel. Not being able to read the road and know when the chassis is at it's limit is a real let down.
As someone who’s never owned a sports/muscle car, I don’t know what it feels like when you guys speak of steering feel, can you describe what it’s like for a novice? Cheers!
🏁🏁🏁 Being able to buy a brand new Mustang still sporting a 5.0 V8 with available manual transmission (mt82 or tremec in dark horse trim) in 2023 let’s celebrate and give Ford a round of applause #savethemanuals
The foxbody gauge cluster is sick, probably my favorite feature of the car being a foxbody owner myself. But there were more foxbodies made then any other mustang ever and probably is the most supported and built mustang platform ever made. It’s iconic as hell
Tom, you nailed it with your assessment of the steering. I have had this gripe ever since they went to electronically assisted steering. It’s not every model; but it’s pretty close to it… But personally, every ford i’ve driven past 2013 model year has absolutely no feedback in the steering wheel. Bravo!!
I feel like Lexus does it best if you really want to make the gauge cluster a screen. They took theirs out of the LFA and use a sliding gauge cluster. Then they have one screen that isn’t super large for the infotainment
@@MrRainbowSprinkles agreed on that one, that has a lot of flair to it. I think Lamborghini also does a very good job with their cluster. Stuck on screens are like the worst imo, AT LEAST make them integrated with the dash. But I prefer a needle over them all, like in the GMAs (I think there's an additional bias to on my side for GMA, they're pure art to me, my word). Idk there's a character to analog stuff.
@@austinbatton4849re there’s nothing wrong with screens and as long as screens are tastefully implemented and maintain a nice and apt balance between digital and analog, I don’t mind. However, stuff like the new Mercedes Benz vehicles that rely on acres of screens without a single button in sight can be too much visual overload and can venture into becoming distracting. I know Ford can’t keep doing retro, but I personally feel the S550’s interior had a nice sporty vibe to it and I feel like the S650’s interior, if done right, could’ve blended a premium feel with hints of sportiness perfectly, but I just don’t feel that. Just wish that some buttons were there for HVAC and volume for the radio.
@@austinbatton4849 absolutely especially for higher end cars. I have a baby Honda that doesn't have a lot of features. But honestly 1 good infotainment screen that integrates well in the dash should be it. Making everything a screen isn't great. Man the comment about the steering is so true not being able to feel the limit of your tires doesn’t make you feel confident in pushing your car..top tier content right here‼️
All the older generation cars are gaining popularity because not everyone can go out and spend $60-80k for cars that were $30-35k not that long ago. Everyone busts their ass every week to spend $250 on a few bags of groceries that wouldn’t even fill a Miata trunk.
Bought my 2017 GT for 37K here in Canada brand new. One of the last 2017's on the lot, a few months before the 2018 refreshes came in. I couldn't imagine dropping 60K on a regular GT.
Personally the interior is my hold up. Just can't accept a tacked on screen. I am very pleased Ford at least went through the effort to put good hardware and software in there.
"Break traction. Understeer or Oversteer".. great knowledge that you shared there. It is one of the most important things to know when you become a GT owner. Before you go and "challenge the local at the red light", find a big empty parking lot (if you can't afford to go to track) and learn how and when "break traction" occurs. Learn how to correct Understeer/oversteer. If you are a Mustang owner, that is a regular behavior for the car. Nice review Throttle House.
The funnier part is that a handful of idiots are going to end up paying $60k-$70k after taxes and interest over an 8-year term going into a recession. New and used vehicles are about to fall off a cliff because everyone's out of money and these 2024's won't be an exception. The base price on a 2017 Mustang GT was like $33,000. I got a chance to drive the S650 yesterday here in LA , and Thomas hit the nail right on the head with the steering. Coming from owning a 2019 Bullitt, I felt that the S650’s steering left something to be desired, especially in track mode. Overall, I truly enjoyed the car. Thank you guys for this thorough review!!!
@@alexmoore5970 let me start off by saying the spec I got to drive wasn’t the one presented in this video. I got to drive a premium package with the 10 speed auto. Now that being said, I had the car in track mode on the same mountain roads, and although the steering was quicker, it definitely felt more numb than my ‘19 Bullitt. I’ve never driven a C6, so I can’t give you a fair comparison, but if you have the budget to get a S650, definitely go test drive one. They’re neat.
Visually the S650 is a step back for me. The performance improvements are really the only selling point. The screens are too much. One digital screen with apple car play would have been sufficient. How do you go from the base gt having an ipod nano for a screen to a dual iPad display?
Lmao right ? I like the base models so i was hoping no screen would come in that spec but nope everything gets big ass screen(s). All that animation and fancy graphics are all gimmicks in my opinion give me a set of gauges and a small info screen for track data thats all you need.
Kind of disappointed they didn't go full sportscar with this, especially considering the massive price hike. But I guess when your main competition is no longer there you don't have to strive to be more competitive.
To be fair the "true sportscar" mustang has been the GT350/Mach 1/Dark Horse for a while now. I think it's intentional they want to keep the normal GT sedated.
That's where the Camaro failed. People didn't want a track car but a highway roll racer and that's what the gt is. That's all what people will use it for lol let's be real
First thing I noticed was that tire pressure was at 37 psi. My 2019 Bullitt had 37 psi when I bought it. I adjusted it so that it averages 33 - 34 psi during the day at city speeds. Feels much better to me, but it’s all up to the driver.
They might've done all that stiffening to the steering (and effectively making it functionally lighter) in order to accompany and accommodate the drift brake they've added. Makes it a bit easier to manage the steering in the drifts for all the new drifters that are going to come out of this. Maybe not better for the pro's, but much more accessible for newbies.
Good gravy! You guys have just kept blowing up over the years. I remember when you were at like 60K subs, and you guys have kept that same feeling of irreverence, comedy, and quality.
Another brilliant review. And thank the Ford and the auto gods for NOT turning this into a EV. OK sure same chassis as old, but like the Z it just looks great. Would prefer one screen.
Coming from a 2018 GT PP1 owner, I feel like the 2015-17 S550 body style is the best out there. But just glad that we'll still be able to get Mustangs for, at least, the next couple of years!
That’s a shame the steering feel isn’t improved after it being talked about so much. Going to enjoy my 22gt and wait for the refresh of the current gen! Great video.

I remember when I was 16 and bought my 2004 Mach 1 mustang. $30,000 MSRP. With D-plan and rebate on the mustangs that was available I paid $23,500 and with tax and tags paid $25,200 total. Worked when 13 til then and saved any cent I got from Christmas, birthday etc and paid cash for that car. Was a fun car and loved the shaker hood.
Among all the cars I've owned, I've had 7 Mustangs. They just deliver so much fun for the dollar spent. My latest is a 2014 GT with a Roush blower and a suspension package. Likely the last gas car I'll ever own. It's gone cross country, been my daily for nearly ten years, been to the dragstrip a lot, towed my motorcycle on a trailer; it's just a do-everything car and that's what Mustangs do best.
In 2017 I bought a fully loaded GT with the performance pack, it’s msrp was $2000 cheaper than the base price for a GT today. The GT in 17 started at 31k, and some dealerships offered a base GT with a supercharger for under 40k making up to 727hp IIRC and it retained warranty. IMO the mustang isn’t the performance car for everyone any more, it’s now the same heavy and expensive car everyone else is selling.
1. Inflation is a thing, along with changes in specification. 2. ‘Everyone else is selling’? How many companies are selling affordable V8 manual coupes these days, or are just about to discontinue theirs?
I hear you. I bought GT Performance Pack, non premium, manual in 2017 for $29000 because they were dealing on Mustangs back then. We are way beyond inflation at this point because that’s $36k now. You won’t touch one for that price now. $49k for a similar build, but obvious more modern….in some ways. They are banking on the enthusiast crowd buying these for over inflated prices.
How is the steering really? I’m coming from an Audi A4 which has almost perfect steering. Hearing how bad the steering is is worrisome with 500hp and RWD
"we are awarded with a manual transmission" the times we live in 😅 Manual should just be a given on cars like this but in this day and age, we should be happy with what we have
Digging the exterior maybe some more time designing the interior would have been nice personally. But hey manual, NA V8 for another generation is a win. And even though they did juat tack on a big screen I do appreciate that they took the time to out good hardware and software in there for a nice experience.

why doesn't every review focus on the steering? It's literally the most important thing to consider in a sports car. This is why you guys are the best.
The Fox body gauges were probably a response to people like me, who remember Ford's lime-green interior lighting from that era, and would make comments about it. A color Ford used for switch gear and gauges probably right up until the early 2000s when they switched over to turquoise blue, similar to what they were already using in Lincolns.
As ford has always done with the mustangs they leave us looking for more on “all new mustangs”. That feel Thomas speaks of. However they always come out with new packages that are performance oriented. Can’t give them the best all up front. I owned a pp2 s550 and that was a monster in handling and feel in stock form compared to standard or even pp1 GTs. I’ll give it a couple years.
Mustangs were my first dream car. But could only afford a 2000 Integra back then. Now I’m in the new ITS and just casually watching the new mustangs again
And that’s why I just went ahead and bought my brand new 2023 GT 401A package and I can’t be more thrilled about it! The more I hear about the new mustang the more I’m glad that I went for the 2023
Had an S550. Nice car. At the time (2016) I was speaking to one of the management guys at Ford and he was saying the next gen car (this one) was going to be an all new aluminium design and apparently a bit of a looker. Dropping around 200kg would have really helped with the dynamics, but sadly it looks like the Ford bean counters had the last say. The 2024 car looks nice enough but it's not enough of an evolution to tempt me in to buying one.
When you drive low end to extremely high end cars daily as a full time job you learn what works doesn’t work and what feels right these guys are incomparable in their reviews always on point
No it's like a new big Mac that has a few new ingredients. What would be bad is advertising a new Sports car altogether but then unveiling a new Mustang instead

I had a 2012 GT, LOVED it. Great chassis, great brakes, and good old fashion gauges. It only had 410 HP or something like that. It reved to the moon, sounded great, and was a blast in the curves. It was kind of light weight and yeah the trans sucked. Stickered for just North of 30K. Yeah 10 years ago, but these are too expensive now. Too bloated, and the only thing they shouldve changed was the horrible trans. Enough with the screens!!!!!
Being a foxbody guy since 2003 that's exactly what I thought of your car 11 years ago. Too heavy, too refined, not enough feed back....etc. That being said, hopefully the new car will grow on both of us because now over a decade later I could definitely go for a coyote in my coyote in my life. I agree with you overall, just hope the new car grows on me like yours has.

@@gian-lucbrasseur207 Kind of, if you want the mustang to be a sports car and not a Pony car. Ford perfected the S197 chassis. The S197 is a track rat, budget racer, kind of secret. On a track that rear end is not a detriment, and you can do the 1/4 stuff too. Ford is still catching up to chevy in regards to how to make an independent rear work great at the strip and curves. This isnt Fords fault, you just cant catch up to Checy when they have been doing independent rears for about 60 years.
50k is indeed insane for a Mustang GT. I fully remember going by the Ford dealership, seeing them upgrading the GTs to '93 Cobras that were close to 30k out the door. Well optioned GTs were around 25k. More than double the price in 30 years? Pretty sure that's right with inflation, unfortunately. Dam, I need a big raise! I also think the steering condom can be remedied with a software update.
The problem with the steering exactly illustrates why I didn't get another Mustang after my last one was rear-ended. When shopping for a replacement, I was checking all the options and the Mustang felt numb. It's crazy, considering how amazing the car is that the driving feedback is muffled. I went with an MX-5 because I really wanted something I could feel.
Around 2012, I could look up a 3-5 year old mustang and expect to afford something like that. Now, I look at a 10 year old mustang and think "no way in hell is it worth that much!"
I was torn between buying a new Mach 1 and a 2024. I had heard the tremec manual was going to be an option in the gt. Wnen I found that wasn’t the case I went with a new Mach 1. I didn’t want to pay markup on a dark horse to get the tremec. Plus first year releases make me nervous. My 2014 and 2019 mustang gts both had the mt82. I never had a reliability issue with either and both cars were boosted and drag raced. It’s a completely different experience driving the Mach 1 tremec. I didn’t know how clunky and crappy feeling the mt 82 was because it was all I knew until now. I’m happy with my Mach 1 choice.

Modularity never works unfortunately.

The way I simplified it your feet connect you to the rear wheels and your hands connect you to the front. When you are driving a sports car it should be firm. It should be solid you should feel resistance and you force the front tires to pull you where you want to go.
Absolutely. These guys were spot on.

I owned two in my youth and from a nostalgia factor alone, I’d probably have my gauges set to that screen….
Tom, you nailed it with your assessment of the steering. I have had this gripe ever since they went to electronically assisted steering. It’s not every model; but it’s pretty close to it… But personally, every ford i’ve driven past 2013 model year has absolutely no feedback in the steering wheel. Bravo!!
The intro is absolutely spot on. PLEASE stop this screen trend gah.
I feel like Lexus does it best if you really want to make the gauge cluster a screen. They took theirs out of the LFA and use a sliding gauge cluster. Then they have one screen that isn’t super large for the infotainment
They’re useful, don’t pretend they’re not
@@MrRainbowSprinkles agreed on that one, that has a lot of flair to it. I think Lamborghini also does a very good job with their cluster. Stuck on screens are like the worst imo, AT LEAST make them integrated with the dash.

Same displacement, completely different engine design. The old 5.0 was a 1960's style pushrod design, while the Coyote engine is a four cam, 32 valve with sixty years of technology behind it.
It was 40 years ago, I bet 225 hp was crazy in the 40's...
why doesn't every review focus on the steering? It's literally the most important thing to consider in a sports car. This is why you guys are the best.
The Fox body gauges were probably a response to people like me, who remember Ford's lime-green interior lighting from that era, and would make comments about it. A color Ford used for switch gear and gauges probably right up until the early 2000s when they switched over to turquoise blue, similar to what they were already using in Lincolns.
I like the s650. But I'm glad i got the 2019 GT PP1. I didn't want a digital dash and i got it out the door for under 36k
The digital dash broke so many times on my service managers GT that she traded it in.
I’ll give it a couple years.
pointing out the steering issues is a huge deal. thank you for mentioning that, i hope they really fix that at some point.
There will always be something about a Mustang that gets me excited.... probably because it was my first dream car.
I'm keeping my S550.
Holy grails are the 2013 to 2014 GT 500 or canyon carvers are the 2012 and 2013 Boss 302
The “camstang” is crazy 😂. Keep dropping theses videos
I was SOOOOOOOO waiting for THIS specific review!! Awesome quality material once more! You never cease to impress me!
When you drive low end to extremely high end cars daily as a full time job you learn what works doesn’t work and what feels right these guys are incomparable in their reviews always on point
The last true muscle car standing!
I'm a mustang guy and this is a sports cr or sports muscle. The true muscle car is the challenger
And it costs more than a new Mercedes.
@@biggiesmallzz123 a new V8 challenger doesn’t exist after 2023
The history repeated itself
mustang stopped being "true" muscle car a while ago lol
No it's like a new big Mac that has a few new ingredients. What would be bad is advertising a new Sports car altogether but then unveiling a new Mustang instead
You guys are killing it! No other review is getting so much attention. Proud to be Canadian!
I would love to own one. In Ireland it costs a 100,000 euros to buy, and 2400 euros a year to tax. So unfair 😭
And they are crying over 50 000$😂 spoiled americans.
Haha 😂
@@honza2755Probably because the mustang is a car they see everyday, unlike here in Europe. I think over there it’s known as cheap performance or a cheap V8 in a new car.
@@honza2755what about $120.000?
@@ryansudding667the 2024 Mustang GT looked like 2010 Camaro SS for some reason.
😂😂 What an intro. I wonder how do you guys come up with those super original ideas
I HATE the new dash with the two screens that look to just be stuck on. I wish they'd just kept the last gen dash and just refined it.
As much as I adore these throwbacks to the classic Mustang shape of the 60’s, now that you mention it, I really want Ford to do the same with the Fox body era.
A reimagining of that “other” classic Mustang shape would be absolutely stunning.
Am I the only one that thinks the front end looks like a Honda Accord
No clue how anyone sees that😂
I see it now but ONLY for that newest gen of Accord.. which I think was revealed after this was
It absolutely does.
My first thought when it was introduced. Same grille shape, same proportions, even the headlights are practically the same, down to the DRLs!
All high volume 2024 cars are starting to have the same look I'm noticing..
I'd say going with a rear independent suspension was the best thing ford has ever done for the mustang.
@@gian-lucbrasseur207 Absolutely, far simpler for a drag racer to hang a 4 link and a 9" than have to go the other way. Have put 89-97 T bird IRS in fox mustangs 2x's and have also done four links where leaf springs were.
A 93 cobra in good condition will cost you upwards of 55-80k.
A fool is born every minute😂
In 1993, an average car was probably around $13,500. So the fact that these are only about double is actually remarkable.
@@jmhutner50k for a stang and you’re calling it remarkable lol? 😂
@@GenaroV2015 Yes, look up the price of an average car in 2023.
These guys have really stepped up their game. Great presentation!
Ya Ford heard your request to make it handle more like a Camero, so in response Ford adapted Camero rear fender flares.
😂
It's the S550 fenders just flared out. I guess
Still using the MT-82 is unforgivable. It was far and away the weak link in the 2011 model, and here we still are.
Terrible
The problem with the steering exactly illustrates why I didn't get another Mustang after my last one was rear-ended. When shopping for a replacement, I was checking all the options and the Mustang felt numb. It's crazy, considering how amazing the car is that the driving feedback is muffled. I went with an MX-5 because I really wanted something I could feel.
The Miata is the best car ever made. And it's not even close. 6 figure exotics aren't even in the same universe as the Miata.
@@feo130 I share a lot of that bias! I'm in love with my '23 RF GT.
Around 2012, I could look up a 3-5 year old mustang and expect to afford something like that. Now, I look at a 10 year old mustang and think "no way in hell is it worth that much!"
Crazy times we live in... 3-4 year old cars used to be affordable... now they cost as much as a new one.
An awesome video guys. The car looks mean. The sound is great, i still have the goosebumps. Great work guys.
Agree.
I'm sorry but this is not as good looking as the last generation. Looks like failed cyberpunk styling.
Having owned two Mustangs with MT82s followed by a 2019 GT350 and a 2022 Mach 1, I concur.
Car Companies: Keep your eyes on the road to avoid accidents.

50k is alright for what it is but for 15k more you can get a new corvette stingray which depending on who you are could be a better deal
When Tom says "I don't think there is anything wrong with that..." I just can't believe him 😂😂
