The 2023 Chrysler 300C ($75,890 starting in Canada, $56,595 starting in the US) is the last hurrah for the long-running American sedan, and Chrysler has thrown everything at it as a result. The 300C gets the beefy 6.4L HEMI V8 engine, adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential and unique tri-colour badges to pay homage to its almost 70-year legacy. But is this enough to help Chrysler put the 300 name to rest with a bang? Or did it need just a little bit more to stand proud as the last big-engine Chrysler 300 ever? Thomas and James are excited to get behind the wheel and find out! We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!

Obviously, you haven't heard of or driven the HSV Clubsport R8 or it's base counterpart, the Holden Commodore SS (VE model, the last generation before they seized production in 2017). Don't get me wrong, we still get the 300 and all it's variations in Australia, but the HSV Clubsport R8 is a insane sedan. Yes, it's basically the same as the 300 C, big V8, American based, but locally built, sedan, RWD, and you could get manual too.
It's a shame that all of these cars are gone here in Australia. Everything is either a small FWD hatch, cross-over SUV, SUV, 4×4 or Ute (a truck in American terms), Vans and EV's. You can get RWD coupes and sedans new, but you would have to pay an extreme amount of money, plus, in Australia, when cars are over a certain amount, we have a luxury car tax, that's on top of all the other taxes. What I would do if we had car prices like you guys have in the States.

Gonna miss these 300/Charger/Challengers. I owned a 2012 Charger SRT for ten years until trading it in on an M550ix. The BMW is generally a better car, but the Charger wasn't far behind it. It's not surprising how well those vehicles sold. And yes, it is "nearly luxury". Mine had ventilated seats, rain sensing wipers, heated steering, adaptive cruise, adjustable suspension, heated and chilled cup holders, and many more toys that you couldn't find on luxury cars back in 2012, and all for $50k, along with 470hp, 470 ft. lb., and a 4.4 0-60.

It was just the v6, 2k miles new, but it had an alpine stereo, 20in wheels, sunroof, leather, and got 30mpg at 80mpg through 130 degree heat with 3 people, 2 dogs, and luggage. I have had my '23 300C for a little over a month now. Love the car, just like you said. Big V8, powerful, big comfy sedan. Love it. Yes, you can get a Charger Scat Pack for a few grand less than a 300C. That's the cheapest way into the 6.4L V8. But that doesn't get you the adaptive suspension, active exhaust, etc. To equip the Scat Pack as close as you can to the 300C, the Charger Scat Pack comes in at $63K... much higher than the 300C. Plus, you can't get the Scat Pack with the full Laguna leather (gotta step up to a Hellcat for that) or the panoramic sunroof (unavailable on the Chargers).

When i was a teen, I worked at a full service car wash and we weren’t allowed to push the accelerator on a jeep, unless it was manual, to get it out of the tunnel. The style is muscular, gangster, American, comfy. My only complaint is that I could not get it with a stick shift. In Sport mode it was plenty of fun, but I hate having to switch modes, I would prefer leaving it in gear/downshifting for a quick blast around a corner.

The Magnum R/T is a sort of dream car for me (the "dream" part is having the money to give it a "rally" mod makeover, kind of like what was done to the Lambo Hurracan with the Sterratos), but I've heard some generalizations about dodge product's reliability, including of the Magnum. Did you and your wife have any noteworthy issues with reliability, or even just aspects of it's design that you encountered problems with? I hope Stellantis does not kill off the Chrysler brand. They have found it difficult to position it within their portfolio, but I think they can easily fit it in alongside Jeep and Dodge. Jeep being their off-road feature-rich vehicle, Dodge as their sports marque and Chrysler as a proper luxury vehicle with more focus on electrification. Chrysler holds so much history in their back catalogue and I think given the right direction the brand can be revived to its glory days.

    • @Alan-tr5uj

It’s going to be a tough thing to do now that Chrysler is only going to have the Pacifica to sell. Not sure that alone can float an entire brand. Yeah, you had slant sixes and thrift sixes and Pontiac's Trophy Four, and wagons and coupes and so very much more; but this is the last of the giants, a once common style of vehicle now reduced to a flame snorting special edition. I've always felt that 12/13 second daily drivers are a good spot to be in and still be able to have fun without getting too carried away with speed to feel like you're "using it", how James mentioned.
