I’m not saying that you should switch to Octane, I still use Cycles occasionally, use what fits you best

me, watching this video very intently and closely while having no intentions to ever do photorealism nor having a computer powerful enough for it

yeah, tbh, stylized is just more fun as an artist, you have more to do creatively. If you choose photorealism, its just kind of boring in my opinion
you don't need octane to do realistic stuff if you have cycles. also, there are some other very cool render engines that are for free like LuxCore for instance, which is also an unbiased rendering engine -- if that's what people are looking for -- with tons of cool features
my computer was dying just to render a liquid, how can I do photorealism with such a computer
ikr
Note, decreasing the GI clamp will bias the render. It's a high number by default because the 'fireflies' will eventually converge to the correct value with a long enough render time. Setting it to such a low number will make the render darker than it should be.
I use both Blender and C4D, Octane for C4D is my #1 choice. But if I do a job in Blender, I really don't need a render engine other than Cycles. Cycles is the best free render engine hands down.
oh....you know...of cinema4d? The lord has blessed this day. That's my favorite modeling program because its so easy. Like why would you model in anything else.
This. Same here, Octane is just a hassle in Blender and super buggy unlike in Max/C4D, but it's not because that, imo Cycles X is a solid renderer, only lacks some postfx.
@@ExacoMvm exactly
Agreed as far as rendering textures and skies etc goes BUT...shame cycles can't / doesn't nail Bloom like Eevee does/can...and at least in Eevee, you can animate the bloom more easily/effectively without the headf*ck of compositing etc and the bloom effect is way more realistic than the lame 'glow' node using 'ghost' effects..just my opinion/experiences thus far.
@@metatronorder3565 Honestly if you need the most realistic/customizable bloom/glare it's best to do it in comp, unless the engine has built-in bloom/glare that's quite accurate/realistic or like in V-Ray VFB you get quite a lot of control, but still imo it doesn't beat the comp option because you don't get that many options.
What I would do if you're using Cycles is to setup a nice preset template in AAE or Fusion/Nuke so you can add it relatively quickly, maybe even Blender's compositor is enough but I doubt it, maybe only for preview purposes.
No clue why ppl hate on you so much in the comments man. Obviously the title is clickbait, but in this day and age I am happy the title didn’t say “I 3d scanned a body in the suicide forest” or some shit like that. Yeahh Octane has been around for some time, but I am happy you reminded some new Blender ppl that it exists. Keep up the good work man!
Hate to burst your bubble, but Octane has been available for Blender for several years. Its nothing new.
You’re missing the point. Not many people knew about it prior to this video.

This is a great tool tho! I actually will use this.
You could also look for compatibility like Hydra Storm (which is included in Blender) which is used for USD import/Export.
Octane is a ***third party*** plugin.
what is hydra storm?
@@enderfire3379 Hydra Storm was developed by Pixar Animation Studios. i thought this was an actual secret rendering engine, until i realized i had to buy it
no wonder this doesn't have a bunch of popularity
Edit: So it turns out there are a LOT of people crying about me pointing out that octane is limited and they're claiming it to be "free", and if they send a screenshot of the site, it would just be edited, therefore proving me right.

Been a blender user for 6 months now never heard of octane engine, thanks for the video
stoked untili found i would have to remake all my materials to work with this engine
Cycles is unbiased too. Also other 'sercet' render engines that have other feautues: renderman - powerful engine with good artistic control. Unfortunately no gpu support.
Luxcore - state of the art caustics also supports gpus
only if you had made this video earlier, i wouldnt get fed up with it trying to work right:(
amazing video by the way
almost thought this was about blender internal render engine
octan edition scares me the most...
thank you for actually caring enough to give solution to problems and mention relevant tutorials
ty dude
I am on Mac. Can I expect faster rendering? Is the final render better quality?
I wouldn't call this a secret render engine.. It's community made, hell I could make my own render engine and call it blender's secret render engine
tysm
Okay, what the heck? There are also Vray, Arnold, Redshift, Corona, Rendermann and a few other render engines for Blender. But the point is that all these engines including Octane cost money, Cycles does not.
Octane is free smh
Octane is free if you are only using 1 gpu
I had a dream where I followed this tutorial, but instead of finding a new render engine, I found built-in furry fetish animations. I then lit my computer on fire.
I’m using this with all my new 3d art
What are the benefits of switching to Octane renderer in Blender? I've watched the entire video and it seems to be more of a guide than a feature showcase

Meh, there are other "secret" engines too like Renderman
Thats awesome, thanks for sharing
and the extremely secret blender render :)
I feel like the render engine is all upto the artist. If they can justify switching from a decent paintbrush over to an expensive paintbrush- thier work better be stellar.
I dont see the need to switch to octane besides the novelty? Is there any justification for octane?
I thought that shit was dead already lol. The only good thing about octane blender was the camera settings in which you could get some good bokeh but that's it, now we have Cycles and addons for it
i cant use the latest versions of blender, i am stuck on blender 2.9 something something on lts, i manage to create good renders but i want to use the latest versions instead of being stuck in this old outdated version of blender.
does it work on mac
I recognize those Photon caustics examples.
Yeah, they are from one of the Corridor Crew’s videos
@@ArtinAzarnejad Now I am curious if you can get Photon in Blender as well. lol
The only thing stopping me from installing octane and never using cycles ever again is the fact that I HAVE to learn EVERY SINGLE SHADING NODE OVER AGAIN like dude come oooon I'm a freaking god at shading with blender nodes, don't freaking CHANGE them wtf octane not cool dawg :c
I dont know why there are alot of hate comments, found this video helpful :) but I've run into one problem. I downloaded and installed both the server and the render engine but when i try to open the Octaneprime server it doesn't open at all? is there any fix to this lol?
This would be really good for creating Backrooms videos.
We Need tuto for octane/blender !
i used to use cycles.. then switched to unreal for all rendering and camera stuff..
for real that's actually a great idea if you can stand the importing. I'm considering using that for all my product renders tbh.
How fast is it compared to cycles. That's the only thing I want to know
I don’t believe it is a huge difference in speed
As much as I love the rendering quality of Octane, this introduces too many dependencies making projection chain over complicated, and prone to breakage over time if any one thing in this chain breaks due to availability and/or compatibility.
So I always advise against this type of practice in all the studios I’ve worked at.
cycle is soo good for me a think no difference 😶
O yüzden benim için tek tek bireyler var. Neyse açıklaması uzun sürecek.
so like why not just use cycles
Personal preference, it's not about which one is better, it's about what works for you, my reasons for choosing Octane can be different from another Octane user, but personally, I simply think that it just looks better and has a more advanced material system
@@ArtinAzarnejad okie dokie cool!!
it looks way better for non daylight scenes (so studio or artificial light + its faster)
octane lets you render deep exr! which is only useful if you're comping in nuke but it's still amazing you can get deep compositing renders out of blender!
dang
Dang
Isn't cycles also an unbiased render engine? Only caustics seem to be something cycles struggles with.
Bro my viewport now looks like a unity game
Evan King👍
I'm mad that the website doesn't allow me to link your channel... ugh
If I use this my laptop will explode
The fan!!! the dang fan!!! now I'm a fan.
PS: If you know, you know.
and im using octane for all the time and never going back to cycle anymore, because its easy more realistic, the bump node is amazing, the procedural node is more than cycle,
but octane render look very noisy even when using denoise, i can see a lot of noise on my final render, and the octane server often force closes, and is it right that this should stay online? it's very annoying.
damn sounds like I should switch cycles be removing way too much noise making shit like watercolored
For me Cycles X and Octane is same shit more or less, why you like Octane is likely due to it's default post processing, you can setup that in Cycles too and for bump maps and such make sure your bitmaps are in correct color space, but I'm sure Octane's shaders are superior. In my testing the render speed is also quite similar, Cycles X can be faster sometimes.
But I agree Octane is the best GPU engine when it comes to realism or physical accuracy, too bad it kinda sucks in Blender, you would love the C4D version.
🤧☕💦💦
I don't think it's correct to say "Blender has..." because it's not a directly Blender thing. I mean, otherwise we can claim to Blender render ways like AppleSeed, Nvidia Omniverse, RenderMan, MoonRay, D5 Renderer... And LuxeCore, sure if it's still alive or something. All of it different companies with own rules. Did anyone read them? I recommend it for sure just in case this also restricts your legal usability.
As I remember, the only practical differences CyclesX and Octane is only the way it deals with glass or something. Isn't it?
Can you please drop a 15 minute long tutorial on texture projection mapping and texture painting? In blender 4.0

What about Pixar's rendering engine?
It's called "nonyabusiness" made by "f*ckoff studios" designed for computers whose owners are "stupid as f*ck (like you)"
bud I still use evvee because my PC can't handle cycles lol
Lol same. Cycles on my pc takes like 4 hours to render a single frame, meanwhile Eevee takes less than 10 seconds.

cycles is unbiased
Cost?
its free for blender, but good luck getting it working its sort of confusing. if you dont have nvidia graphics card also you can't use it (as far as I know)
It’s speed?
same as cycles +-
the title says "Blender Has a Secret Render Engine", which in fact is misleading, because that's not a render engine that comes with Blender, it's a paid proprietary software by another company. Also, biased and unbiased rendering techniques does not necessarily mean that things will look more or less realistic, so the explanation in the video is also misleading. I say from professional experience, even though Cycles is a biased rendering engine I use it very often in my VFX workflow for photorealistic rendering, and without problems achieving realistic results even with a simple principled shader with no image maps connected to the main shader node.
Thank you, you just saved 5:14 Min of my life 😊
