Maybe Pixar uses Maya for models, but they use Presto for animating, and Renderman for renders. Though I've never seen any articles, or behind the scenes, or interviews that make any mention, of Maya in their pipeline.
If you begin in Blender you are best to stick to it. Being free doesn't make it inferior, in fact the opposite. It is unique because it is available on all platforms including linux, and for being a respectable open source software.
I believe Houdini is also available in Linux. Blender is good but I like Houdini more, there's a sense of freedom when using it, in terms of creativity
@@OST1350well da no shat of course zbrush is going to be better at sculpting, zbrush is litterally an application designed solely for digital sculpting so it's obviously going to have better features tailored towards digital sculpting where as blender is a powerful powerhouse 3d and 2D application so blender has to improve and update a lot of there modules and can't get too them all in a single or short few updates as theres just a lot of features to focus on so it stands to reason that for awhile certain blender modules will be left in the dust or barely updated for awhile until a complete overall comes. Though I believe when blender does get a update to its sculpting module it will blow away its competition aka zbrush in say 3 major updates so probably in blender 7
if you ever update this you should include Rhino, its a 3D NURBS based CAD software kinda like AutoCAD but much more adept at 3D design where AutoCAD is more for 2D. It also has powerful mesh and subD tools. And its plugin Grasshopper is kinda the OG procedural modeling tool - like geometry nodes in Blender but for CAD/NURBS. Also I think BIM softwares like Revit and Archicad deserve a spot, they're used in the architecture industry

@ahellis8810 It's not as intuitive as Cinema 4D, doesn't have the high end plugin support of 3ds max by nature of the GNU license it requires, and isn't as good at organic shapes as Zbrush is. The reason why Blender isn't as good as other software is because it's an all-rounder that doesn't specialize in anything and doesn't have companies like Insydium investing a ton into developing plugins for it.
Plasticity is really an underrated gem, it integrated with blender seamlessly and has allowed me to create hard-surface models I never imagined I could. I can recommend the 30 day trial to anyone

You forgot to mention that 3ds Max is also great VFX software. It's like great overall for everything and has the power of Houdini ( w/ commonly used plugins ). It's only good for ArchViz just because of so many renderer choices especially Corona Renderer or FStorm and so many plugins related to interiors/buildings/exteriors. Imo the top 3 are: Houdini, Maya or Max depends what you do & Blender.

If Unreal was the best for rendering every VFX studio would replace Arnold, VRay or Renderman with it. There are way too many limitations with it being a game engine to be used for professional VFX work. For hobbyists that mainly do environments its a pretty cool tool.

I had no experience other than pencil drawing and basics of "compositing quality art". id say another 3 months would put me in a level just beyond beginner. i don't have specific goals, im trying to "learn a little of everything" but my focus is on 3d/2d animation. so far, I have been able to study full time as I am enjoying a grant and help from loved ones. hope that helps.

But literally the only thing that 3ds is maybe somewhat better than other leading software is hard surface maybe (with plugins, and in that case why not already use Inventor??...) It used to had some pseudoprocedural advantages but is very obsolete now and brutally inferior even to blender (even with all the plugins)... PS: 3ds was my first art 3D software after CADs and I sadly have to use it in my workflow

They first model a high-poly version in Zbrush plus a low-poly version of the same model, then they bake the details of the high-poly version into a normal map, at the end they apply that normal map to the low-poly version, and now you have a detailed model that is optimized for in game use

I never achieved anything with Blender. Zbrush is just better at sculpting.
