I just brought it. Perfect car. Its handling is much better than LR. I am still in shock how better this car is over LR. Well... it sesms this is what I prefer. Yes... this car simply is... better, safer. Just great!
Last week I got my first Tesla ever, a model Y FWD Midnight Cherry Red - it’s a very nice colour, sort of “interesting”… 😅 Red, purple-ish, orange-red and also at evening it’s almost black... The name of the colour is actually spot on! It will be interesting to see it now in the wintertime when the snow is coming. I’m happy but it’s also a bit nervous to drive an electric vehicle from my Volvo XC70 😳 Thank you for a nice video! //former very faithful Swedish Volvo-driver and today an even more faithful American German-built Tesla-owner/driver” 🙋🏼♀️
Tesla wants a minimalist interiors, OK but how about a heads up display for truly important parameters. And the interior and materials are falling behind the competition. Still the ride is crap, they really need to start to improve these as well as some more color and interior options.
Absolutely not, people want options, not everyone wants to drive the exact same car. For years a vehicle is an expression of peoples identity, style, personality. One style and a few colors does not suit everyone.
But options means the extra expensive money you cost. Check the BMW, AUDI, BENZ option list and you will see. And in a matter of fact, this Model Y P has more standard options than any of these German company. They just want to earn more money and offer you options.

I sold my car in January with the intent of buying a Model 3. Then I got the news that the Model Y Juniper was going to come out "soon". That car seems a lot more practical and hopefully gets more improvement than the 3, since it's their best selling car. Looks like it won't be released around summer like the predictions said, but here's to hoping they hurry up with the new Y because I really miss being able to drive to places hahah
I was wondering, Tomas, if you could compare the model Y made by the Gigga press method to the original model Y; and we can actually see the differences. Thankyou.

Going from Model S 😍😍😍😍 to Y performance while waiting for new S in UK. Test drove yesterday (Long Range Y) and was really impressed with how well the Y performed. Quieter than the S, ride was comparable and performance was on a par (75D model S). Looking forward to the new Y👍👍
I picked up my 2022 long range about 3 weeks ago and on 19s it feels like I'm driving a boat which is exactly what I wanted. I test drove the performance and it was just too harsh of a ride like my X6M.
The 3 long range a boat?😂 i had the 3 long range for 1 year and sold it because its too stiff for regular driving here in Norway we have lots of bad roads and speed bumps. Ita a shame that tesla dont off adaptive dampers it would solve the problem for everyone🙂👍🏻

Thank you for your stance on china. I am from asia and sick and tired of the actions of their government not only domestically but in the region as well
6:56 fog *inside* ? That looks outside (as it's follow the blade limit), unless the wiper is inside too 🤔 Rear windows are also dual layers, just not exactly like the front ones IIRC the cargo is NOT 1 meter wide (wheel wells gives only 94cm)... Feels like you were in a hurry to drive it and have fun
Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I wasnt accurate enough with the windscreen, my point was that there is quite often a "wet" windscreen, especially when you are not using AC 24/7. Must have something do to with how and where the vents are installed. Rear windows, the rear ones really dont look like dual insulation, didnt know that they are dual insulation inside? You sure it is also for the German model and not only for Shanghai? As for the trunk, well the 1m 40" ruler fits in there, easily at the front between the wheel arches, more like 1,20 m or smth. And maybe a little less wide further back, but offers sufficient space.
@@autogefuehl noted 👍 For the rear windows glass, on the chinese MY it's already different than the front ones... Didn't have a chance to see a german MY yet, your video doesn't show the rear glass edge to understand it. And for the cargo, it's best to measure the smallest width, else it can be misleading. Between wheel wells, there's only 94cm (much less than VWs siblings)
thanks m8 and also for following us for so long! Hmm the rear windows' edge seemed very round, havent seen double glass with round edges yet, but maybe it is on the inside or smth, I ll take another closer look
Dont worry about comfort. I have a 2018 passat estate and the 2023 MYP i tried was much smoother to drive and quieter. It's not a S class Merc or premium Audi but its for sure good enough!
FYI: Tesla has done about 30 suspension updates to the Y suspension since it launched 2020. This gets applied I presume to all Y production, whether it’s China or USA or Germany now. This would explain why some who had a 2020 and now a 2022-2023 Y say their suspension is a lot more comfy now.
I had a terrible experience comfort wise in Greece. Greek city roads are awful and the tesla suspension enhanced that feature. It felt like 85 opel kadett!!!

No instrument cluster is simply unacceptable. If this is what Tesla decided to omit in order to lower the price of the vehicle I simply don't trust their judgement.
The simpler the vehicle, the faster they can build them.... hence why Tesla's sales dwarf attempts from overcomplex Legacy ICE. You can add one aftermarket or buy a different vehicle, that's why having options is a great thing!! But it's not a problem for most people once you drive one for more than a day....
@@TheLastMoccasin The navigation system in my car is on the side. I got used to it as I drive it for years. However, it took me 5 minutes of drive in a car where the navigation is also displayed in the instrument cluster to understand the "attention" price that I'm paying. IMHO, having a digital instrument cluster should be the bare minimum in 2022 as HUD is already a well established technology...
@@omeryehezkely3096 I agree that some people find instrument panels or HUDs useful, but a lot of people don't, and including costly hardware features that are only "required" by a small % of customers is a bad move for a business laser-focused on higher production volumes as their primary objective. If it won't help them build more cars, it's not required. Also, MS and MX have one and aftermarket ones exist too.
the real reason why there is no instrument cluster is full self driving. Tesla always have vision of car fully driving itself around... so in that case you dont need to look at instrument cluster. Maybe just at central screen for movies, youtube, games, etc. This car is made for future where driver will drive from time to time, just for fun. But most of the time, car will drive you around. For that reason, instrument cluster becomes unnecessary.
Great review...the 3 and Y for their 10K+ price hikes over last 2 years need to come with at LEAST optional air suspension, if not standard features for performance versions....Looks like it will shake your teeth out on the agile driving part
This would seem reasonable, I agree. But the reason it has gotten more expensive is because of increasing material costs and they’re selling like hot cakes which means demand exceeds supply. This allows them to charge more money for them since people are buying them anyways, and so Tesla earns more money which they can use for research on how to make them cheaper.

As ever Thomas an excellent and fantastic review. I'm moving from a Model X P100D Ludicrous to a new 2023 Model Y Performance. I just hope my delivery to the UK will be from Berlin and not Shanghai.
My only problem with Teslas are they feel "cheap" when driving, like they are really hard if you sit on them. I could literally feel all bumps on the streets.

Love your reviews! I own a Freemont LR and I feel the suspension becomes acceptable when I have my car loaded down for a trip. I usually have a hitch mounted 2 bike carrier and bikes and probably about 50kg's of additional luggage. I have done 4k km trips with this configuration and feel a noticeable difference in the suspension. I wish there was an aftermarket solution to remove the harshness, I would prefer a suspension somewhere in between what I have now and the XC40 Recharge , although I would take the XC40 suspension over this as a compromise. Your discussion on one pedal driving was interesting and I will poll my passengers to find out if I am doing fine with that. I really enjoy one pedal driving, rarely if ever use the brakes. My build quality was pretty good, I only 2 issues that req'd service was the charging port not lined up and driver seat plastic cover around the base coming off. Both were fixed in my garage with Tesla service. 50k km's in one year of driving and no creaks and still feels solid. My only gripe would be finding a solution to the harsh suspension that will not void my warranty, would be nice if Tesla would address this and give owners an upgrade option. I would pay for that.

Thanks for a great video as always :-) When will Model Y be with the Matrix led that you mention? And do you know when 4680 batteries are put into model y from Giga B?
We’re getting new BMW iX M60 in Uk, after having Tesla model 3 performance for 2 years, keeping both - so I think we’d prefer just one paddle driving since we’ve learned how to drive smoothly breaking with taking foot off accelerator. I think adaptive is pointless in the future. People just need to learn how to drive electric cars from the start. It will change as we have teenagers doing their driving tests in EVs!

@@MichalsalajSk Not in all sectors of the industry but yes, while Europe has been objectively making the best cars in the world for a long time, now automotive innovation seems to have moved to the other side of the Atlantic. And to make it worse for Europe, they don't have any real know-how as far as batteries go - that's the Chinese.
@@jacobzimmermann59 Yes, Chinese have built many good and price-reasonable EV cars that is quite competitive. Both inside and out. And they do it really quick.
Thanks for another good video. You seem to enjoy the performance model more that the LR. It seems to have gotten rid of some of the weaker points, now they just need to figure the suspension out on th LR+ steering in my opinion. I think you forgot to mention the double glass is now at the rear seat windows too. It's going to be interesting to see how it vil perform as TMY 2.0 with gigacast front+ rear, structural battery and 4780 cells. And finally, where you in Copenhagen and testing the BZ4X last week?

german model Y = perceived better quality for sure, tesla needs it. I wouldn't buy it due to the lack of instrument cluster, but fun drive. This or the ix60? As always, excellent review Thomas
Aftermarket instrument cluster that you can customize? They exist, although most people find they are not really needed and worth the money. Otherwise, they would be the #1 selling aftermarket accessory if it was truly needed.
I'm currently considering a Cupra Born - still to decide whether an electric car is for me - the Model Y is not for me however. But, we should be extremely grateful to Elon and Tesla for what they have done in producing absolutely amazing EVs !!! Two points, Elon needs to recruit some European suspension engineers 😂 and why hasn't he implemented a head-up display on his cars ? (Tesla is a technology company after all) it is an option on much cheaper cars (the Born etc...).
60k? more like mid 80k with all the options, but offers so much more than any other car in its class. makes me consider canceling my order on the new macan GTS
Soon this car - Tesla Model Y - will be the best selling electric car in European Union. And the idea that Tesla build the factory in heart of Europe is great :-)
Kinda weird people will evaluate low profile tires then mention ride quality? Try the 19 inch rims if you want ride quality. Also put it on chill mode if you don't want to go fast or just don't get the performance version? Kind of weird review looking for negatives seems.
Can the throttle sensitivity/engine braking not be adjusted in the custom settings? If not then maybe this was an over sight by Tesla? Also you are dead right that a car needs a traditional instrument cluster display directly in front of the driver and not moved to the middle with nothing in front. And also conventional dials to alter temperature and media settings eg volume are a necessity. Just looks so wrong and tortuous to make changes.
Volume is adjusted with the scroll wheel. Temp is adjusted with voice commands. You never need to touch anything or use the screen on the drive. All these comments are from people that have never driven one or owned one. After having nothing in front of you obstructing the view out, there is no way I’d go back to a car with a binnacle.
Crikey, Thomas... You're talking to camera about how the ride quality of this Berlin Model Y Performance model is 'no worse' than the Shanghai Long Range... All the while, your camera is joggling around making it look like you're piloting a boat or something...!! 🤣
I wish that Tesla would do an over the air update to add the adaptive regenerative braking system, because all models will then get this feature, except for the original Roadster.
I think Tesla is the only car manufacturer does not offer adaptive ride control in this price range no? Hopefully they will have it in the future or just go all air for all model.
Hello @autogefuhl, coult you help me with a buying advice? What would you think is better - a Tesla Y Long Range 19in wheels VS BMW iX3? My priorities are: 1. comfort (I am around your height aprox 190) 2. lofty ride height (the higher the better) 3. Reliability 4. Range This car would be driven around town and probably once per year a long 1000km trip. Any thoughts? Thank you so much, Best regards from Romania!
@@MADMAX7330 I hear it is uncomfortably fast. That it actually can make people feel sick in its Cheetah mode. I've heard the same about the Porche Taycan Turbo S as well. For me, it's overkill. And it's still a Tesla. It's a way, way nicer car than the 3 or Y, but for the price, I'd look for alternatives.

Well. Thomas I have seen dozen of videos on Tesla Y. But when I saw your preview I understand that there will obviously be something that others won’t tell as they don’t understand if not Germans who will tell you wether it’s a real car or a toy. Nice test and review! Thank you.

I’m happy but it’s also a bit nervous to drive an electric vehicle from my Volvo XC70 😳
Thank you for a nice video!

Tesla wants a minimalist interiors, OK but how about a heads up display for truly important parameters. And the interior and materials are falling behind the competition. Still the ride is crap, they really need to start to improve these as well as some more color and interior options.
Cost savings seems to be the only reason ...
more options is what will kill German carmakers
Absolutely not, people want options, not everyone wants to drive the exact same car. For years a vehicle is an expression of peoples identity, style, personality. One style and a few colors does not suit everyone.
@@racekar80 The main reason I never bought German car is 30 pages of options
But options means the extra expensive money you cost. Check the BMW, AUDI, BENZ option list and you will see. And in a matter of fact, this Model Y P has more standard options than any of these German company. They just want to earn more money and offer you options.
The easing of throttle in BOTH ways got me. My girlfriend drives with high recuperation mode but it gets me sick every time.

Hello! Does anybody know if the Performance right now has HW4?
I sold my car in January with the intent of buying a Model 3. Then I got the news that the Model Y Juniper was going to come out "soon". That car seems a lot more practical and hopefully gets more improvement than the 3, since it's their best selling car. Looks like it won't be released around summer like the predictions said, but here's to hoping they hurry up with the new Y because I really miss being able to drive to places hahah
All Berlin y performance cars have double isolated windows everywhere. I tested one too and It had it in the back too.
Thanks 🙏
Still a great review Thomas 👌
Thanks m8!
I like the roads you choose to test a car :D (narrow, up and down, in the woods)
way to go :)
I was wondering, Tomas, if you could compare the model Y made by the Gigga press method to the original model Y; and we can actually see the differences. Thankyou.
Would love to see this!

Enjoy!
Did you test drive Long Range Y from Berlin?
I picked up my 2022 long range about 3 weeks ago and on 19s it feels like I'm driving a boat which is exactly what I wanted. I test drove the performance and it was just too harsh of a ride like my X6M.
What is your minimum range?
The 3 long range a boat?😂 i had the 3 long range for 1 year and sold it because its too stiff for regular driving here in Norway we have lots of bad roads and speed bumps. Ita a shame that tesla dont off adaptive dampers it would solve the problem for everyone🙂👍🏻
@@Aizman87 such a shame telsa lacks good suspension. At least offer some kind of adaptive suspension.

6:56 fog *inside* ? That looks outside (as it's follow the blade limit), unless the wiper is inside too 🤔
Rear windows are also dual layers, just not exactly like the front ones
IIRC the cargo is NOT 1 meter wide (wheel wells gives only 94cm)...
@@autogefuehl noted 👍
For the rear windows glass, on the chinese MY it's already different than the front ones...

FYI: Tesla has done about 30 suspension updates to the Y suspension since it launched 2020. This gets applied I presume to all Y production, whether it’s China or USA or Germany now. This would explain why some who had a 2020 and now a 2022-2023 Y say their suspension is a lot more comfy now.

great test and great car. Performance... 3,7 to 100 km/h - wow. Like Ferrari... for 1/5 of the Ferrari price. Greetings from Poland :-)
@@omeryehezkely3096 And I like your rabbit picture :)
the real reason why there is no instrument cluster is full self driving.
Thanks for pointing out the cheap cup holders. It may seem small, but not having adaptive cup holders in a sporty $60K car is completely unacceptable.
indeed
Hello. Who much is in Germany with BAFA bonus included? Thanks
Hi Thomas, is the suspension more stiff compared to Model 3 Long Range Refresh 2021 or more comfortable in your opinion?
Great review...the 3 and Y for their 10K+ price hikes over last 2 years need to come with at LEAST optional air suspension, if not standard features for performance versions....Looks like it will shake your teeth out on the agile driving part
Thanks 😊 please share!

Thanks 🙏

Thanks for a great video as always :-) When will Model Y be with the Matrix led that you mention? And do you know when 4680 batteries are put into model y from Giga B?
is berlin built tesla have better quality and alignment than usa made?
We’re getting new BMW iX M60 in Uk, after having Tesla model 3 performance for 2 years, keeping both - so I think we’d prefer just one paddle driving since we’ve learned how to drive smoothly breaking with taking foot off accelerator. I think adaptive is pointless in the future. People just need to learn how to drive electric cars from the start. It will change as we have teenagers doing their driving tests in EVs!

An American car whose driving dynamics are impressive by German standards! Has hell frozen over?
Yes, the same with Nokia and Apple - innovations come from the U.S. unfortunately and we in Europe should do something with it
@@MichalsalajSk Not in all sectors of the industry but yes, while Europe has been objectively making the best cars in the world for a long time, now automotive innovation seems to have moved to the other side of the Atlantic. And to make it worse for Europe, they don't have any real know-how as far as batteries go - that's the Chinese.
@@jacobzimmermann59 Yes, Chinese have built many good and price-reasonable EV cars that is quite competitive. Both inside and out. And they do it really quick.

They can do great suspension, Model S and X have it. Tesla cars are optimized for future self driving, that's why no head-up

Very good. Getting a Tesla 3. The Y is not quite as stylish in my opinion. Do you know where they are built?
“Son of a battery electric vehicle” 😂🤣🧡
Can the throttle sensitivity/engine braking not be adjusted in the custom settings? If not then maybe this was an over sight by Tesla?
Also you are dead right that a car needs a traditional instrument cluster display directly in front of the driver and not moved to the middle with nothing in front. And also conventional dials to alter temperature and media settings eg volume are a necessity. Just looks so wrong and tortuous to make changes.
You can set the acceleration a little smoother
Volume is adjusted with the scroll wheel. Temp is adjusted with voice commands. You never need to touch anything or use the screen on the drive. All these comments are from people that have never driven one or owned one. After having nothing in front of you obstructing the view out, there is no way I’d go back to a car with a binnacle.
