Got the LR last week. I regret to inform potential buyers in the US at least that the fit and finish issues the Freemont factory has become notorious for are still atrocious and mine has at least 4 dings and dents and a scratch over the charge port. I knew this was a potential risk going in and I'm still extremely pleased with the engineering and powertrain of the vehicle, but Jesus Christ it's utterly baffling how a car company this large is still delivering vehicles with what seems to be practically no body QC going on at all. Service under warranty is later this week, so we'll see how that goes. EDIT: the service to repair the defects went fine, good as new. Tesla is spending a lot of money post--sale I reckon to fix mistakes and carelessness that they need not, if the factory were rightly whipped into shape.
Currently only in America due to the trade wars. In Canada and Europe, Teslas comes from the factory in Shanghai and so far no complains on the quality.
am sick and tired of black interiors, and white interiors are crazy. Hoping someday to have a saddle brown or burgundy interior on a Tesla. About the only reason i don't get one. What i love about Thomas' reviews is that he makes the distinction between what you can get used to vs. what is good. They are different.
I've never had a problem with the speedometer being on the center screen. But dang, those turn signals on the wheel (and the other buttons too) are no good. I have definitely hit the high beam a few times, and forget about trying to signal in a complex turn that involves both directions one after the other.
The truth is.... if people starts to buy cars like Tesla.... for that amount of money get car, that has 0-100km/h under 5s in silence.... They won't even bother buying petrol "supercar" or tune their cars, because they won't switch back.... Every car would feel slow after such experience... and it is family-friendly, huge trunk, frunk, and all other nice things you won't have in petrol tuned loud car. It is that simple.
Most people don’t live in places where their residences have chargers Charging network is nothing compared to access to gas stations The reality is PHEV is the practical solution to existing infrastructure Why do you think EV market isn’t growing? Because everyone that wants to buy an EV has bought it.
15:06 Does FSD 12 handle this type of narrow road with no center marking, and with oncoming vehicle would FSD be able to move to the right side as much as it can without riding on the grass? Maybe do ride on the grass if it detects the oncoming car will hit you?
I have a "legacy" 2022 Model 3 RWD and the AutoPilot nag is pretty aggressive for me too. I've found just a roll upwards or downwards on the right (speed) wheel cancels it pretty quickly. Great review!
you don’t need to open/close the vehicle in the app, you just need to be close and simply open the door / depart the vechile. it detects your phone in proximity and unlocks/locks the doors. as simple as that
The new Model Y rwd long range are the best offer for my need. Hope the look of it after juniper will be better and less carton car. Just hoping the stalks will survive or be an option.
You knocked it out of the park with your matching outfits!! Of course, Thomas dressing blue for the blue outside but I'd guess even Leah matched her outfit, the interior in this case, isn't it? You guys are a super team! 🌟
Incredible car. Not only best EV in class, actuality best car of any kind in class. Quality, performance , effeciency and equipment levels are all best in class and in particular when considering the price! Only negative is the blinker buttons where a stalk is so much better in European roundabouts. I do know Teslas reason is that all these cars are prepared hardware wise to be fully self driving and thaat function will be a over the air software update in the future..... But gove us the stalk back until FSD is level 5 and available globally.
I have one question, how on earth are you going to use those indicators in situations like a roundabout when your wheel isn’t straight when you need to indicate?
Ugh, the blue color looks even better here than on the website. I'm a super impatient person (thanks to my ADHD lol) and couldn't wait a few weeks for delivery of a blue Highland, so I got stealth grey since it was available for immediate pickup in my area. Kind of regretting my decision now, especially given how common the grey is since it's the free option.
Lets hope these headlights work better than model y headlights. Model y headlights are ridiculously blinding. In the dark i can easily tell when a model y is approaching because it’s like someone is shining a laser pointer in my eyes.
This is because Tesla are doing a bad job at calibrating headlights from factory, it’s more apparent in the Y because it’s higher. I recalibrated my lights correctly and lowered them and no issues. Y did get matrix lights update too which works just like the 3 as shown
Tesla have turned cost-cutting from an annoyance into an outright hazard. Not having indicator stalks should be illegal, especially in conjunction with having to take your eyes off the road to do anything.
It took me a few hours to get used to it, but now I don't even think about it anymore. It's like with all new technologies. First, everyone thinks it's awful, then people get used to it and then no one talks about it anymore and people wonder what all the fuss was about. We love our Highland, so much so that my wife has decided to order one too.
Can you activate single wipers slide from the steering wheel or you just drive blindfolded by the rain on the windshield praying that automatic wipers will finally clean it?
phew, good question. The Model 3 is of course in a way more modern, the Model S has HUD and also air suspension. Also depends on if you need your car to be shorter for parking. Just checked, at least in Germany a used Model S is WAY more expensive still even if you go 2020. So thatd be the M3 then
im extremly happy to look forward into the future when i sell my my 2021 m3 lr for a used highland m3 performance or lr (depends on how the performance comes out.. rumored to not have ventilated seats is a dealbreaker).
If they can upgrade the y's interiour to this standard and add the qilin battery(thats the one with the crazy charge rate) than we'll have a winner i think
Great review…one thing I’d ask is about the RWD version and how stable it is? I know the weight would help but after a nasty scare in a 3 series I’ve always been nervous about RWD in the wet
@@benb6209 I just have a new Tesla Model 3 RWD Highland. I just upgraded from an AWD Model 3 long range that I had close to 5 years. This upgraded Model 3 is mind-blowing for what you get for the price, it drives so nicely. I don't miss the All Wheel Drive at all. It is still very fast. The autopilot, the safety features, the comfort and the range is amazing. The RWD Highland seems to have a better range than my previous 75KWh battery. Also I can now charge to 100% all the time, because of the LFP batteries. Heated steering wheel, route noise levels are extremely low and Matrix lights, to name a few. Computer screen in the back works very nicely. Also I love how Tesla updated their software over the air regular. 4 Years warranty. 8 years on the battery and powertrain. The Zeekr X AWD looks really nice, but only 400 km range vs 513 km RWD Model 3 ? That seems low to me. What about the service, I never had a complain on this on the Tesla? And for long trips, the supercharger network works flawless. The Tesla's has an integrated NAV system that tells automatically where to stop (it even knows how many stalls are free, how much you need to charge to reach your next Tesla charger stall or destination). No need to open an app to enable the charging, or find the next charger on the road trip. Plus there are enough superchargers to never get into trouble.
Thank you for your nice explain.. my girlfriend wanted SUV height car , that's why I considered The Zeekr X AWD.. but I agree with you that the driving experience is much better on the new Tesla model 3 RWD.. and I agree that standard range is super quality and quick.
Correct, the Model 3 doesn’t give that. I had 2 generations BMW X3 series. It took awhile to adjust to height, as you said. But it is just a mindset you are used to. The only I miss, the ability to load large items, a 5th door is beneficial in some cases. But efficiency is much better on a low height car. It is all a matter of compromise and the stuff I mentioned in my previous message.
Access to the Tesla SuperCharger network for Rivian and others has greatly benefitted the competition. As a brand, I would choose a Rivian over a Tesla any day of the week.
Great review, thanks! I’m considering buying one, but as an avid skier who hates roof rack of all kinds I cannot understand 1/3 - 2/3 rear seat fold. That should be forbidden! Especially when TMY has it 40:20:40, which is the right way how to do it.
I'm curious what your charge limit is. On the website the LR has 630 km advertised. When I got the car in February and took it for it's first charge, the charge limit at 100% is 550 km. Taking into account the battery degradation that should happen in the first few months worries me. :(
Always assumed a brand like Tesla would come from Germany, given the nation’s automotive history and their environmental commitments. Never imagined it could come from America
There is none in Germany yet, just received the word today that it might be ready in a couple of weeks, we will do it as soon as possible as the first one in Germany
What to buy? standard or long range?? most of the time i drive around 50-60km per day and like to push the pedal from time to time. The question is if the motor power, awd & the better sound system worth the extra cash?
Not in relation. Big consideration is also the battery chemistry. Standard range LFP likes to be full all the time and is more long-term reliable, LR NMC battery likes to be at mid-percentage levels. The power of SR model is more than enough. LR would come handy if you regularly do very long trips
Great overview, Thomas and Leah. A simple solution to the lack of stalks for roundabouts is to act like a typical BMW or Audi driver - no signals required. 😊
Hi Thomas... love your reviews... quick question for you: which one would you buy for yourself: 2024 new Tesla Model 3 long range or 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40?
FYI - If you love the Highland / Plaid but can’t stand the fact that there are no stalks, Enchance is working on a solution giving you both stalks back, no compromise.. They already have functioning prototypes so it’s a matter of time when they will start selling those..
Previously.... manufacturers made new cars, with new features that we wanted and were delighted by. Now... we get features like no indicator stalks, or a central speedo, that we are expected to get used to and after all, we are only paying € 52,000 for it! It's not good enough. FWIW I drive a '56 Austin A30. It has no indicator stalks and also has a central speedo. No one ever claimed the arrangement was better. It was acceptable, in a very cheap car, 70 years ago. We can do better and up until very recently, we did.
Not a Premium Car but Brakes: VorausSchauendFahren. Will be a "Kindergarden" or "Rucksack" Thing. Next Highlights, AI Inside, FSD with BigData, Charging PLaning better than good. Do not focus on a short drive. And this is it: Efficiency. Not beaton.

Power trunk, heated/vented seats, frunk, ambient lighting, etc. so many things that make it a benchmark. Too bad it is missing buttons.
I think that is where Licid is so incredible. Their packaging it best in class.
This one has such a good price though.
I lived for years in NL and had a Tesla and now in Greece and you don’t need to place anything for the roof. It’s perfectly fine

please test and review the standard rear-wheel-drive 1-motor Tesla Model 3, the base model. This is what most customers will actually buy, based on Tesla statistics (60%-70%)
sure we will do that
i’m going to do a test drive of this very same car and configuration in just less than two hours so your review its just came like a god send. I always watch your videos before making a decision about which car to buy. Greetings from the far country of Chile!
best Greetings thanks !
Great job plus the prettiest passenger!
cheers m8 =)
Thomas, brilliant test as usual, thank you. Is the improvement significant enough to justify selling my 2021 model 3 for a new one?
Got mine in Dezember (AWD, 18'', All black) and have done about 9'500 Km. Its perfect. Best Car I've ever drove.
driven
@@Nickbaldeagle02 I'm not a native speaker. But thx for the advice.
No need to shake the steering wheel to confirm attention. You can just scroll any of the scroll wheels one the steering wheel one click up or down. Great review overall!
I just hang one of my hands off the wheel when driving on autopilot. I never get nagged and its comfortable to never have to move
Using scroll wheels does not work in Europe. Like @EwanM11 I simply hang one of my hands.
Are you guys filming only in the rain ?
@@stephen876 I don't think it's due to trade wars, but then you don't wanna know what I think it's due to.
How do you know the dings, dents and scratches are manufacturing defects. Maybe it was damaged during delivery.
am sick and tired of black interiors, and white interiors are crazy. Hoping someday to have a saddle brown or burgundy interior on a Tesla. About the only reason i don't get one. What i love about Thomas' reviews is that he makes the distinction between what you can get used to vs. what is good. They are different.
you can get cream colored seats in the model S or X. if you can afford it 😉
Seat covers are an option. Great for those of us with pets.
White holds up well.
Great video Thomas and Lea 👌🏻👍🏻🙌🏻
thanks so much! Keep recommend us :-)
I've never had a problem with the speedometer being on the center screen. But dang, those turn signals on the wheel (and the other buttons too) are no good. I have definitely hit the high beam a few times, and forget about trying to signal in a complex turn that involves both directions one after the other.
I love your reviews man wayyyy better than Doug demuro more in depth!!!!
thanks keep tuning in m8 and recommend our channel !
No, drove
The power of EVs is simply fantastic. The driving experience is incredible. I say that as the previous owner of a Dodge Viper RT10. ❤
No thanks
Most people don’t live in places where their residences have chargers
Charging network is nothing compared to access to gas stations
The reality is PHEV is the practical solution to existing infrastructure
Why do you think EV market isn’t growing?
Because everyone that wants to buy an EV has bought it.
@@josefv-y8myeah you’re not fooling us with those lies. Anyone who has actually driven a Model 3 knows how much better it is
15:06 Does FSD 12 handle this type of narrow road with no center marking, and with oncoming vehicle would FSD be able to move to the right side as much as it can without riding on the grass? Maybe do ride on the grass if it detects the oncoming car will hit you?
I have a "legacy" 2022 Model 3 RWD and the AutoPilot nag is pretty aggressive for me too. I've found just a roll upwards or downwards on the right (speed) wheel cancels it pretty quickly. Great review!
Bought in Korea. I cant wait
you don’t need to open/close the vehicle in the app, you just need to be close and simply open the door / depart the vechile. it detects your phone in proximity and unlocks/locks the doors. as simple as that
Has the turning circle or radius been improved in this Model 3?
I really like your review where i can see more details about the car❤
thanks keep tuning in !
My favorite car reviewer 🙌
thanks! Please recommend our channel 😎
So the driver has to look at steering wheel tu find turn indicator buttons. Is it legal?
try autopilot next!
FSD not available in Europe
it is beyond amazing
I have one question, how on earth are you going to use those indicators in situations like a roundabout when your wheel isn’t straight when you need to indicate?
Just don't indicate.
roundabouts are a problem yes
You can press the button with your right hand. That's what I do. Not great but... Yeah.
Drive it like a BMW. THEY DONT HAVE INDICATORS.
Hand out the window signalling your turn, just like the old days...
Hilden is the best supercharger location AFAIK
(He charged there for the test)
Lets hope these headlights work better than model y headlights. Model y headlights are ridiculously blinding. In the dark i can easily tell when a model y is approaching because it’s like someone is shining a laser pointer in my eyes.
The model Y headlights already have the same update over the air without cost ...
This is because Tesla are doing a bad job at calibrating headlights from factory, it’s more apparent in the Y because it’s higher.
I recalibrated my lights correctly and lowered them and no issues.
Y did get matrix lights update too which works just like the 3 as shown
What is the battery size of the new SR?
still 60 kWh
Tesla have turned cost-cutting from an annoyance into an outright hazard. Not having indicator stalks should be illegal, especially in conjunction with having to take your eyes off the road to do anything.
Yep not everything is gold there, they offer great stuff, but it also comes with downsides
Are you heterosexual @@autogefuehl
Have you watched this review @abaialsa712 ?
It took me a few hours to get used to it, but now I don't even think about it anymore. It's like with all new technologies. First, everyone thinks it's awful, then people get used to it and then no one talks about it anymore and people wonder what all the fuss was about.
We love our Highland, so much so that my wife has decided to order one too.
@@fsclips That still doesn't make a good decision from a consumers point of view. It's all about profits.
Great review! Can I ask which camera mount you're mouting on the windshield?
Thanks! The small or big?
@@autogefuehl the small one at the front? Thanks for your reply :)
Can you activate single wipers slide from the steering wheel or you just drive blindfolded by the rain on the windshield praying that automatic wipers will finally clean it?
He showed how it's done. 5:05
Love your honest and detailed unbiased review. Top notch.
Considering that a used 2020 Tesla Model S can be now bought at the same price as a new Model 3, which one would you go for and why? :)
phew, good question. The Model 3 is of course in a way more modern, the Model S has HUD and also air suspension. Also depends on if you need your car to be shorter for parking. Just checked, at least in Germany a used Model S is WAY more expensive still even if you go 2020. So thatd be the M3 then
Would love to see a detailed test drive review of the Lotus Eletre R. Great channel as always❤
When will you fly to the US to try FSD v12? It blows people's minds more than the acceleration.
im extremly happy to look forward into the future when i sell my my 2021 m3 lr for a used highland m3 performance or lr (depends on how the performance comes out.. rumored to not have ventilated seats is a dealbreaker).
Looks good in blue 👍🏼 thanks for this review. ps: the base model is called standard range, not short range 😅
If they can upgrade the y's interiour to this standard and add the qilin battery(thats the one with the crazy charge rate) than we'll have a winner i think
What distance would the long range version manage at a steady 130kph?
400km in summer, and 300km in winter
And 360kms at 140kmph as tested in Oman 20c temps, 2023MY LR
Great review…one thing I’d ask is about the RWD version and how stable it is? I know the weight would help but after a nasty scare in a 3 series I’ve always been nervous about RWD in the wet
Thanks 🙏 as long as u drive in normal mode its all fine, u can even activate a snow mode which limits torque
@@autogefuehl thanks guys much appreciated ❤️
There are a significant number of round-about in the state of WI USA. People generally don’t use turn signals when exiting one…
i really like the blue, sorry Thomas Blue with black wheels, looks very premium.
😎
Great review like always.. Zeekr X AWD or this Model 3 highland, which you choose?
I mean the Zeekr X AWD or Tesla model 3 RWD highland ..
@@benb6209 hands down the tesla
Favorite color: Midnight Cherry!
Thank you for reviewing the frunk! 😊
you re welcome !
Access to the Tesla SuperCharger network for Rivian and others has greatly benefitted the competition. As a brand, I would choose a Rivian over a Tesla any day of the week.
Except it’s not available in most markets
Great review, thanks! I’m considering buying one, but as an avid skier who hates roof rack of all kinds I cannot understand 1/3 - 2/3 rear seat fold. That should be forbidden! Especially when TMY has it 40:20:40, which is the right way how to do it.
I'm curious what your charge limit is. On the website the LR has 630 km advertised. When I got the car in February and took it for it's first charge, the charge limit at 100% is 550 km. Taking into account the battery degradation that should happen in the first few months worries me. :(
The number you are seeing is the EPA rated range, not the WLTP. It’s always been like that with Tesla. Nothing to worry about :).
WLTP is always more than possible, check my estimate real-world range in the video
The heated & cooled and comfortable front seats were much needed... the rear seatback looks very upright, am i correct? Cheers from Virginia USA 🇺🇸
Cheers! Yeah but fine afaik
Good review
Very nice... the model 3 is also quite good.
Always assumed a brand like Tesla would come from Germany, given the nation’s automotive history and their environmental commitments. Never imagined it could come from America
Tell us about FSD plans in Germany.
Why you don’t review the Peformance model?
@@autogefuehlThank you, you have helped
Would you say this is a noisy car at 130 km/h? I’m hesitating between this or the i4.. I’ve heard these models are still noisy in the highway..
Not anymore, facelift made it way more silent
@@autogefuehl thank you very much
although charging not as fast as say a tacan but if you look at km range per minute its even better than its competition
Tesla should just do little paddles for the turn signals, almost like paddle shifters but for signals.
btw when are youn testing smart @3?
Great overview, Thomas and Leah. A simple solution to the lack of stalks for roundabouts is to act like a typical BMW or Audi driver - no signals required. 😊
haha =)

@@autogefuehl Yes. Just use the scroll wheel to tell the car that you are still paying attention when the nag shows up on the screen.
interesting. Still not ideal but at least some kind of different workaround
@@autogefuehl yes, safer than moving the wheels, hoping your passenger not thinking you're messing with the sound😆
I just tried. Didnt work. Maybe that only worked with different software status or only in some markets? Here in Germany that didnt work
Previously.... manufacturers made new cars, with new features that we wanted and were delighted by. Now... we get features like no indicator stalks, or a central speedo, that we are expected to get used to and after all, we are only paying € 52,000 for it! It's not good enough. FWIW I drive a '56 Austin A30. It has no indicator stalks and also has a central speedo. No one ever claimed the arrangement was better. It was acceptable, in a very cheap car, 70 years ago. We can do better and up until very recently, we did.
