    I own a 3 long-range and just hit 114000 miles and its not yet 3 years old and about to order the second one a Y long range only issue broken subframe at 98000 miles, it charges to 310 miles and looks like new inside so given how people say its cheap its lasted way better than all my BMW VW and even my volvo.
    You don't have the constant vibration of a combustion engine with all the internal trim rattels that drive you mad as i had in the golf GTE and the X1.

    You can change the wiper speeds and a whole multitude of options through the left knob (menu). Hold the button in and the menu appears on the screen near the bottom. It is very useful. You can also set a default function that appears first.

    I bought a model Y extended range, its basically the best car I've owned, the driving experiences is awesome, pretty spaceous interior, very comfortable seats, its very well insulated, the beams are awesome, autopilot its great, sound system amazing. I dont understand why all the hate to tesla from so many people that havent even driven one, its a pretty amazing car and it always keep getting better with constant free updates. For the price its an excellent choice, JUST take a test drive before commenting that EVs suck.

  • @idonotcarenow

    What do Brit’s consider level 2 charging? You have 220V outlets in your house, you can charge your car every day for 3-4 hours to 80% and you never need to charge anywhere else. How much do you guys drive? In the US I have a 220V outlet in the garage and I use the provided Tesla mobile charger. I don’t normally bring my car home with less than 50% battery on a normal day and it gets plug in every night, charging to 80%. My breaker is only a 32A, but if I put in a 50A, it will charge even faster. Going on a road trip? Charge it to 90% and use the Supercharger Network. Unless you’re an Uber driver, you don’t need to drive 330 miles a day.

    • @michaelmcnally2331
      @michaelmcnally2331 7 месяцев назад +2

      Nice of you to presume we can all charge at home. With a lot less space the USA then many people myself included live in flats or apartments. So mine is a first floor flat with my off road parking the other side of the road.
      So oddly enough I cannot charge at home at all.
      Don’t worry you are not unusual in making this assumption. Here in the UK over 80% charging is done at home so only 20% of charging done away from home.
      Quite frankly if you cannot home charge then EV just don’t work.

    • @idonotcarenow
      @idonotcarenow 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@michaelmcnally2331 my response to you would’ve been “if you live in an apartment, an EV might not be the best solution for you unless, electricity is so much cheaper than gas, that the money saved is worth the public charging and time spent waiting”, but you already answered that. So 80% of GB (assuming again) can and do charge at home? so the posters concerns are irrelevant then? Also, what stops you from buying an extension cord and actually charging it in front of your apartment building if you live on the first floor? Unless of course it’s illegal because it’s a safety concern, or you’re worried and/or have shitty neighbors.

    • @michaelmcnally2331
      @michaelmcnally2331 7 месяцев назад

      @@idonotcarenow nice to see that you read about where my parking is the other side of the road which would mean that dangling a cable across to the car also means running the cable across the road as well.
      Also 80% of charging does not mean 80% of people can charge at home, it means of all EV charging done then 80% is done at home. The govt figure is that 70% of UK homes have suitable off road parking that can be used for home charging.

    • @idonotcarenow
      @idonotcarenow 7 месяцев назад

      @@michaelmcnally2331 I read your comment, but it didn’t make any sense why you park across the damn street. But there you go, you answered your own question. Drag that cable across the road, do whatever the hell you need to do and get your car charged up. Tell who ever parks in front of your house to F off and take that spot, do whatever the hell you have to do. All I hear is a bunch of complaining with no solutions, maybe why GB and especially London is such a mess right now.

    • @michaelmcnally2331
      @michaelmcnally2331 7 месяцев назад

      @@idonotcarenow what bit about off road parking the other side of the road was difficult to understand about why I the other side of the road. That is where my parking spot it is at. I live in a block that has 6 flats so why would I telling them to F off from outside their flat.
      And you think a charging cable going to survive being run over when traffic goes over it, not to mention that would be classed as obstructing the road.
      So you recommend being anti-social and breaking the law is the way to solve problems. nice.
      I can see why your name on here is what it is.

    Why are you so overwrought about the key card? First, it's a backup, your phone is your primary key. Second, to unlock the door all you need do it place it under the side pillar camera as outlined in the user's manual...no "hunting" for the right spot needed. Finally, to start the car all you do is place it behind the cup holders and press the brake pedal, then you put it away. Since the car never moves during this start procedure the key card will never slide around. Beats the hell out of carrying around a $300-$400 fob that many luxury cars come with.
    You can set the speed of your wipers via voice command without using the screen (i.e., "Set wipers to level 3" or "Turn wipers off"). Much more expensive cars don't have this feature. In fact you can control many of the settings for the car via voice commands.
    Regarding braking, when using regen braking when the car comes to a stop it applies the regular brakes to hold the car still, not the parking brake.
    When using cruise control you can set the following distance based on seconds behind the car in front of you, not how many car lengths (at least that's the way it works in the US)

  • @scaryprowler
    @scaryprowler Год назад +27

    You can change D and R gearing without touching the brake, under 5 mph for those 3 point turns. You also don't need to leave the card in situ. Once you've set off, you're good to move it.

    I purchased both a Model 3 and Model Y a year apart and both have a design in the bottom aero panel underneath the cars. In both cases, a screw or bolt came off and allowed for a portion of the front of this panel to flop down, and hence start to hit the road any time you go through a dip in the road. Eventually, this break off while driving. Also, when it rained, the cars would collect water underneath and get into the underside. This caused mildew and I had to replace the cabin filter earlier. Both cars were less than one year old. Getting both aero panels replaced cost me about $400 each from Tesla. They did not consider this to be covered by warranty. This is a design flaw that needs to be fixed by Tesla. If you do a google search on this subject, you’ll find multiple instances of this by other people.

      @@VictorGoesElectric buying an EV is buying into a car market that only occupies a small margin of the total market. Alot of our energy that powers our cars is from coal, gas that still pollutes the Earth. Even though over time it's slightly better than gas depending on where you live. The way the batteries and the car platform itself is made also pollutes. Sure it's better than gas cars, but still the point stands. It's not good for the environment. Also even if the car was completely zero emission from the manufacturer and powering it, buying one doesn't make a scratch into total global pollution/carbon emissions when you look at all the other sources of pollution from other countries. Your EV purchase is like throwing a bucket of water in a volcano thinking you will put it out.

    • @VictorGoesElectric
      @VictorGoesElectric 10 месяцев назад +5

      @@andrewlindell8626 It's funny you assumed I'm from coal powered country. In Scotland our electricity is 98% green. We are producing 3 times more of energy than we need, and we sell the rest to other countries.
      It only takes 40k miles to offset pollution difference in production between ICE and EV. And even if you decide to use 100% energy from coal powered station, it will take 100k miles to offset a difference (power stations are more efficient and cleaner than your car engine).
      I've made some changes in my life to minimise my impact on environment and I will continue to do so. It might be only a bucket of water worth of effort but imagine millions of people doing their bit in saving Earth it will accumulate to millions of buckets of water worth of changes. It saddens me how human race managed to destroy such a beautiful place, and if we don't start acting now there will be no planet left for future generations to enjoy.
      Hope that clears it all. I think I am saving the Planet after all.

    A couple more tips, if you haven't found the option yet, is ability to setup different functions with a long press on the left scroll wheel and also change the voice control language settings to 'English British' instead of US. I have a Model Y Performance 21 inch Uberturbine wheels Year 2021 Dual Motor long range with white interior. I haven't had any of the issues that you've had, I'm not sure why? I have found a lot of voice commands can be used vs using the screen. Control of the wipers, glove box, temp, trunk, frunk, and the normal commands. Sentry mode can be set to turn off by setting certain locations, such as home and work. Charging your car to 100% actually degrades the battery, 80% is the recommend for battery optimization. I also work from home so I don't use a ton of mileage. I bought mine in 2021 and I have 11,842 miles on my car. I know people need to drive long distances everyday, for these peeps I wouldn't recommend an EV if you have to travel long distances. It's also recommend not to super charge as charging option everyday since this also degrades the battery. I know EVs are not for everyone, but there are pros and cons to every type of car.

    Location of key card unlock on the door pillar is under the camera. Works every time. Keycard is used by very few people anyway.
    Someone could access your car if you lose your phone. Just like if you had lost your car keys? Is this not the same thing?
    You can adjust the wipers without the screen using the buttons.
    I’ve had a car seat in my model 3 (with white seats) for four years and there is literally no wear in the faux leather.
    I agree that the main benefit of having an EV is having a home charger. It makes an EV dramatically cheaper and more convenient. However as you’ve said supercharging is very well done by Tesla.

    There should be a feature to keep tethered devices active when selected as such; it would work in this case as you can have the phone charging on the wireless mat.

    Useful info about the Tesla model Y. Smaller wheels might save you on tyre wear and cost. Don't like the American ism Bay-ta when it is Beta for us Brits. You can add a screen for about £150 that puts your speed and other info. on the steering column. Tesla are years ahead in software compared to Kia, Hyundai, VW or Ford and their systems aren't laggy. Is the long range worth the extra and how far do you really go further than the standard range model ? If you have the charging network then is the extra worth it ? I would be careful buying a used Tesla cars unless you know the charging history because Tesla will not replace the battery unless it drops by more than 70% (31% loss before replacement) capacity which in the standard car could be 40 miles range. Can you tow with the standard car or only the long range as it has two motors ?

Also thought about buying a train if that same 1,000 miles single journey is doable by land. By extension, thought I might buy a diesel tourer for those two to three 500-mile journeys we make in a year. Money to burn, you see.

    Good video and mainly informative with some interesting points, but i felt you were not grasping the 'whole EV experience'. Is 6 months enough time to get into the mindset? I have been driving EV's for well over 2 years and frankly loved every vehicle i have driven, and its been quite a few. So, Kia EV6 lovely car, Hyundai Ioniq 5, still a stunning design and so spacious inside, Polestar 2, odd seating with a large centre console that makes the driving position cramped, VW ID.3 & 4 simply stunning and the Cupra Born (basically an ID.3 but takes the looks and design to the next step). Mercedes EQA, B and C are again lovely but lack in range somewhat and then the BMW iX40 - stunning to look at and a music sound system to die for, but on the 40 sadly lacking range. Each EV stands alone with quirks, but they all rely on a charging infrastructure which is sadly lacking in some areas such as Wales, or to be more precise Mid-Wales. My favourite car is a toss up between the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD and the BMW iX40 Xdrive, as they both have their strengths. Both are very minimalistic when it comes to actual controls and buttons, but for sheer comfort the BMW iX wins hands down but for range the Tesla Model 3 LR, plus the Tesla Supercharger network is fantastic and so much cheaper per kW that any i have used and they seem to be expanding many sites and increasing numbers. I was in Rugby Moto services around 8 months ago where there were 12x Gridserve 350kWh chargers and 12x Tesla Superchargers - last week running that way again, there are now 28x Tesla Chargers. Safe driving everyone

The only data usb port is in the glove box which would mean disabling the Tesla dashcam / sentry stick. I have purchased a splitter designed for Tesla but it just doesn't work, apparently the 2023 models had something taken away. Does anyone know the answer that can help an old fart like me who is not that tech savvy .....

  • @bigfun17

    A good 'real world' review. However, even in their relative infancy there are so many issues with EV's. Straight away; why are there so many recharging systems? There should just be one universal system. Or perhaps electric vehicles aren't the true answer, just an elaborate sideshow while investors ensure they get their money back and we move on to a true sustainable source.
    The main take-away here is that Tesla seem to have a marketing department on a par with Apple. If these were regular cars you wouldn't see many about (think Infiniti). The Model Y looks like a modern bubble car in a non-attractive way. The build quality is average at best, certainly not on a par with other cars around the price. The infotainment system is good, is the size of it not too much of a distraction though and the fact that most controls are only through the screen just seems crazy when you're trying to promote drivers keeping their eyes on the road and not on far less important things like the seat temperature or which Spotify playlist to play.

    Nice video. But... Why would you include a fob when the car is designed to use your phone. Also, the security concern about losing your phone is no different than losing a fob. Regarding on-screen controls, how often do you need to change your mirrors? Probably never. If it's a different driver, they'll have a different profile associated w/ their phone and the car will automatically adjust the mirrors (and everything else) to their settings. Re wipers, when you push the left stalk button, a menu for wiper speed is displayed on the screen, and you can adjust the wiper speed w/ your left scroll wheel. Re the degraded parking alert, I always thought that showed because there was condensation on the cameras or smth, but not sure about that.
