Carpeting on the side of the back seats, double glazed glass in the back, It is a lot quieter and a better ride than the March model and the glove box opens smoothly. So I think the Shanghai Y LR has all the upgrades of Berlin. The September Shanghai Model Y is a distinctly better car than the March Shanghai car. which was already much improved on my Previous Shanghai Model 3 LR and my 2 prior Freemont Model 3s. I think the current Shanghai build is getting close to being a "luxury" car!
Hi David, can you confirm it came with a parcel shelf? I am getting a Model Y - Sep-Oct date and pulling my hair out to understand if it has the upgrades like better ride experience!
It would be interesting to know if these changes are local to Berlin which is the implication of what you are saying. As you note parcel shelves are included on the Shanghai cars being delivered now. I wonder if any other changes have made it through?
Here in Norway there has been some talk of panel gaps, uneven shades of paint colouring, and other such quality defects on the Berlin made cars as opposed to Shanghai made ones. Did you notice anything of that kind, or hear any reports?
@@kyrrer No problem but again that was a problem not a long time ago. Of corse maybe some pleople are maybe unlucky but still i saw 7 teslas and none of them had problems. They looked nice and clean. And about quality issues we can name other car companies like mercedes they had some interior quality issues too until 2020 i think
@@kyrrer For a brand new factory like that it is expected that finish might not be perfect. In Warsaw there is MYP that is one of early Berlin cars and You need to put quite a lot of force when shutting front doors. And they don't make a good sound compared to my Q3 MYLR. I heard that very very early Berlin cars needed brutal force to close doors. Most of these issues are fixed in currently produced MYP from Berlin
The quality issues is largely from the Fremont factory. It used to be a Chevrolet/Toyota plant converted for Tesla. These new plants built ground up to Tesla specs produce much better cars.
I feel like there is also underlying culture here. Germans are known for good quality. China is also known for good quality In high end products. I feel like America never focused on quality in their products, especially in cars
I took delivery of my M3P produced in Shanghai about 4 days ago. The suspension has been softened on it as well, compared to my old 2020 M3LR, produced in Fremont.
I'm not sure if that really shows German quality, most of those things are rolling changes that are done from Tesla. Probably all those updates he noted are going to be implemented at all the factories. How well it's actually put together and finished, that's where German quality will shine. I don't remember him highlighting it being superior to the other factories just yet.
Yep, when I think of a parcel shelf, the biggest benefit I think of is noise reduction. Given how noisy the Model Y is I'd be interested to know whether the dB measurements have changed.
Great coverage and sound and vid quality are great! I wonder how the lighting in the boot is now when the parcel shelf is covering the light coming from above 🤔 Btw, didn’t the Model 3 Performance also have a slightly better ride than the LR models due to more sofiticated springs and maybe even shocks?
There have been some anecdotal reports of Q2 MY in the U.K. having better suspension than the Q1 cars. I do hope this is the case as I’m picking mine up on Thursday! Perhaps you could do a video on a q1 vs q2 MY comparison. Parcel shelf looks like it may get in the way of the getting stuff in and out of the boot. Mine will live in the loft.
@@RSEV Got my Model Y last week and compared to the demo Y I test drove the ride quality is significantly better on mine. Granted I am on the 19s on my car and test drove on the 20s so unsure if that is enough to explain the difference?!
Great to see you and the team at the event Richard. In terms of ride quality, I find that to be the case with Model 3 LR & P driving back to back I found the 2021 (MIC) M3P to be a softer ride than the LR on 19" sport wheels.
Good to see you too! We’ll done for working so hard on the event 👏🏼 Totally agree on the ride. Our work m3p lr has 19’s and it’s harder than almost anything

My 2022 Y LR hard ride got fixed when I brought the tires air pressure down to 36psi instead of 41psi. That made the world of difference. At 41psi the tires were hard as rock. At 36 the TPMS accepts it without any warning. The range loss is non existent to me. I think the recommended 41psi is insane
@@iainsears1313 the continental tires on mine max is 50. Way too much. There supposed to dampen cracks on the road as part of the suspension. Not amplify those cracks. And it’s not like the range suffers, I don’t notice any range loss

Great video, just received delivery of my Model Y Long Range with 20" Induction wheels yesterday, I'm in Northern Ireland (UK) so I take it came from the Shanghai factory.Came with the rear parcel shelf, 👍 had to run out and check if carpet had been fitted beside the rear seats but no, still plastic. Really pleased with it so far, had fun with the Tesla light show on the Toybox app last night, near sh*t when the windows and boot lid started to open and close 😂😂
@@RUclipsdotcomma I'm not sure tbh, the lights do spell out Tesla when you do the lightshow but I thought only the performance model had the matrix headlights.
Congrats man!!! Like you I got the 20"wheels. I am soooo glad I did, looks amazing when it got delivered and unless you are a car reviewer I really don't think you notice any difference in ride quality ... just my view ... what do you think?
An expectation must mean the majority of cars, costing the same, has adaptive dampers. Which ones ? I've just checked mercedes, bmw, porsche and volvo and none has it as standart even close to this price. polestar has manual adaptive suspension, EV6 and VW has a system that uses the word adaptive, but it is not what one thinks of as real adaptive suspension. I just don't know which electric car has it at this price point.
Great video as usual. Picked up my model Y LR and was pleasantly surprised I had a rear shelf. You didn’t show that you can fold the entire shelf away meaning there’s no reason to remove it etc.
I believe Richard said something to the effect that he prefers NOT having one. It’s the typical accessory that lots of people take out of the car after one week and find in the garage five years after having sold the car. I’m not saying that is what I would do, but I can see people doing exactly that.
@@superleggendaI don't understand why you would run without a parcel shelf? Wouldn't everything in your boot get stolen? I certainly wouldn't be comfortable without one.

I’d sooner a parcel shelf that retracted like a roller blind. I think the one fitted is to much of a faff about to use, where does one park it when not required?
That parcel shelf looks like a bit of an after thought. Most other cars in this category have one that can be slid away into a hidden compartment then retracted back. The one fitted here just looks like it would be in the way. Great video as always!
all these product updates have been implemented in tesla shanghai by the end of june. tesla makes small changes for their products from time to time. in theory, all factories should produce same products if the receipe is the same.
We’ve had Berlin cars delivered in Sweden with funky fitted doors, rattling armrest and so on so I would say Berlin is on pair with Shanghai build wise.. They’ve removed some tweeters from the speaker system, yes, but better? Did the passenger seat get better when they removed the lumbar support? It’s cutting corners. The tweeters were domed unnecessary.
Also I would say that Shanghai builds of the MY is more precise and has less panel gaps. The worst ones come from Freemont. So people that claim that Shanghai are worse is simply wrong I belive. Also I belive and hope that all new MYLR from Shanghai will also have the fabric over the plastic sides in the backseat.
@@sa.t.2507 I have an early RHD Freemont built M3P down under. Many people have complained about panel fit, ride etc, but all panel fit and finish on my car are excellent. The auto headlights and washers perform without fault and its hard to reconcile many of the complaints with the car that I have. I hope my MYP will be as good a car.
My MYP from Berlin has no rattles what’s so ever, quiet and ride comfort is so much better than LR from China. I recently drove in tuff condition gravel roads in Sweden and the suspension did a fantastic job.
@@hiddeninsweden The suspension is indeed tweaked for the Berlin car for better or for worse.. It’s softer however I’ve heard owners saying it leans more which is contradicting the “Performance”-brand. They should’ve but that suspension in the Long Range instead. It's not so much the crashiness, it's more the general headbobbing. The car just struggles to settle down. Considering upgrading to Mountain Pass Performance suspension, or maybe getting a new Berlin MY next year. Definitely an issue and good to see Tesla starting to get a handle on this, although it should never really have been an issue.
Nice sneak peek mate so thank you for the video! For the lot in the UK? I wonder if the shanghai factory shut down for the ramp scheduled in July will also include the Berlin improvements since not too much has changed and is still on the 2170 cells. The suspension change will be a massive one esp for the UK B roads

@@EdwardMillen The biggest change is the depth of the bolsters. Both the side and base bolsters are much deeper (10cm), such that now we have to climb out of the seat, rather than just slide across the base bolster. They are now deep enough for this to be a bit awkward, and the bolster takes a bit of a crushing getting in and out, but the seats hold us really well once in and driving. The test car we drove was completely different, the base bolsters did not impede entry or exit at all. I have photos but not sure how to attach them here.
This may be unrelated to the MYP, but the wheels on that white model X in the background early in the video really looks the part! Anyone know who make them, or have any wheel specs on that car? 👀
Business users will need the parcel shelf to hide any commercial or computer kit from thieving eyes, as well as replacement costs of smashed back windows for those with no shelf.
Thanks for the update Richard, very interesting. The parcel shelf looks awful, what a faff getting it where you want it. I think most owners will take it out and park it in the garage! Needs a roller shutter to cover things that are in the back, you would not want to store stuff on it. Picture and sound were fine by the way!
I suspect the parcel shelf for European deliveries is so that you can leave items in the car without them being visible, in China crime rates are very low and you can safely leave things visible without the risk of items being stolen
I wonder if they changed the suspension on the performance and didn’t update the long range 🤔 The performance did feel smoother on the last test drive. The LR I received feels a tad rougher
Great video as always Richard. I have learnt so much from watching them thank you. My model Y should be delivered this week. Do we think suspension etc has been updated in Shanghai ones being delivered now?
Well car has arrived and its brilliant. From driving a number of demo's i would say the ride has improved. Doesnt crash over pot holes / uneven surfaces. Also i would say handling seems better. Less body role than i remember
This video could be completely moot if it's not for another year or more because the cars we actually get may have changed again and be different to this one.
Just shows that you have to come prepared, always! 😎 At least you should bring your lavelier microphone with you. "Bad audio can make a good video unwatchable."... and video on phones these days is pretty darn good. On the parcel shelf: it needs a loop at the armrest, so you can lift that bit, just to get access to the middle section release. Also; the parcel shelf blocks the view from luggage and might prevent thieves from breaking the small window.
Nice vid, did you notice any cabin noise improvements on the test drive? Thought maybe they've insulated the panels as that door shut sounded solid and with the extra carpet in the rear?
Great to hear that the suspension sounds a touch more forgiving and they have addressed the issues of rattling seatbelts and rear headrests etc Will be q1 23 for my MYP it appears (April order). 1:49 thank you you are channeling me right there my man you nailed the issue, where 99.99999% of Americans only understand softer as better.
I had a March Y LR and a September delivery Model Y LR - The September Shanghai delivery has the same upgrades as the Berlin made performance.
Video quality was really good. Great video. Thank you.
Great video! Keep it up - it looks amazing
It would be interesting to know if these changes are local to Berlin which is the implication of what you are saying. As you note parcel shelves are included on the Shanghai cars being delivered now. I wonder if any other changes have made it through?
Sounds like good improvements, l like the parcel shelf, the video quality wasn’t a problem 👍
Here in Norway there has been some talk of panel gaps, uneven shades of paint colouring, and other such quality defects on the Berlin made cars as opposed to Shanghai made ones. Did you notice anything of that kind, or hear any reports?
that kind of problem was a issue a few years ago but pleople should now(at least in theory) get their cars with no quiality defects.
@@netrox1345 Ok, seems to be news stories about it current time as well. But I might very well be mistaken. Thanks for your response.
Oh man, I've been in denial but I must really be a Tesla fan boy to watch this and find it interesting. :)
Or a Tesla investor, who wants to see the progress in quality. 😅
Sad isn't it 😂
Thanks for showing differences 👍
I took delivery of my M3P produced in Shanghai about 4 days ago. The suspension has been softened on it as well, compared to my old 2020 M3LR, produced in Fremont.
Yep seems to be common theme now so that’s great to know!
The parttial-shelve I think, should reduce the hollow noise effect at highway speeds, thus quieter drive....??
yes, due to the huge glass roof, small sounds at the rear bounce off the glass and into your ears. This should help reduce that
Yes, but it doesn't really. I drove one with and it's still a boombox inside. Pitty.
I have driven this one as well in black.
It is awesome! But the only downside is, the options I like costs 80-85.000 euro.. :(
Oliver is a lovely guy. MYP is beautiful!
Shout out to Tesla Owners Club UK for a great event.
Hi to Serge!
The (lack of a) parcel shelf was one of the things that put me off the early Model Y’s! Good to see German quality coming through too.
New Model Y from Shanghai come with parcel shelf too now. Unfortunately they don't have the rest of the improvements. Especially the suspensions
Very interesting and PRO as always but I find it weird that other youtubers are (after testing the car) calling speakers worse then MIC Teslas.
Shelf helps block some of the noise from the rear wheels.
Parcel shelf likely reduces trunk noise.
Yep, when I think of a parcel shelf, the biggest benefit I think of is noise reduction. Given how noisy the Model Y is I'd be interested to know whether the dB measurements have changed.
My October 2021 MYP order has actually updated to delivery November 11th- 26th December 2022 on my app. Hopefully it’s from Berlin . White on white 👍
Great coverage and sound and vid quality are great!
I wonder how the lighting in the boot is now when the parcel shelf is covering the light coming from above 🤔
Btw, didn’t the Model 3 Performance also have a slightly better ride than the LR models due to more sofiticated springs and maybe even shocks?
8:34: A blue Model S Estate/Wagon in the background. 🤩
Active dampers.... when! Cloth seat option when?
Wish they’d gone with a roller retractable rear parcel shelf, especially if it could then be stored under the floor
I believe someone on a different video showed that it could be placed flat on the load floor when not needed.
I want to try one of the current batch asap!
@@RSEV Got my Model Y last week and compared to the demo Y I test drove the ride quality is significantly better on mine. Granted I am on the 19s on my car and test drove on the 20s so unsure if that is enough to explain the difference?!
@@RSEV Picking mine up in Staines tomorrow if you want a go. Based on Islington. MYLR.
Great to see you and the team at the event Richard. In terms of ride quality, I find that to be the case with Model 3 LR & P driving back to back I found the 2021 (MIC) M3P to be a softer ride than the LR on 19" sport wheels.
Good to see you too!
We’ll done for working so hard on the event 👏🏼
Totally agree on the ride. Our work m3p lr has 19’s and it’s harder than almost anything
I’ve owned both a made in china and the new made in Germany model Y and the Berlin made Performance is a lot better in many ways. It’s also more quiet than the Shanghai made. My wife and I are in love, and it’s mostly the car 😂😉
Stop buying these overpriced Tesla cars. They are only in business because of cult followers like you, soon they will be out of business. Get off the Elon Kool aid
I’m in Canada, my Y LR is from Fremont California
My tyres arrived at over 50psi so well worth checking.
@@iainsears1313 the continental tires on mine max is 50. Way too much. There supposed to dampen cracks on the road as part of the suspension. Not amplify those cracks. And it’s not like the range suffers, I don’t notice any range loss
Video was all good as always
I really really REALLY hate to say it... But the audio and visual were good... Not an iPhone fan... And would still say a dedicated camera and audio set up is better! But in a pinch that worked well. Great video Serge!
Did you get the matrix headlights too?
@@RUclipsdotcomma I'm not sure tbh, the lights do spell out Tesla when you do the lightshow but I thought only the performance model had the matrix headlights.
Congrats man!!! Like you I got the 20"wheels. I am soooo glad I did, looks amazing when it got delivered and unless you are a car reviewer I really don't think you notice any difference in ride quality ... just my view ... what do you think?
@@CHDunham123 yeah, I agree, ride quality is really good, check your tyre pressures though, mine were set at 46 when they should be 42 psi
@@fonzyb1270 good tip. Will do
Parcel shelf is mostly about keeping the boot contents hidden from view.
Helps with noise reduction as well.
It’s impossible to see into the boot.
For the price of it I would expect adaptive dampers as standard or an air ride option .
100%
An expectation must mean the majority of cars, costing the same, has adaptive dampers. Which ones ? I've just checked mercedes, bmw, porsche and volvo and none has it as standart even close to this price. polestar has manual adaptive suspension, EV6 and VW has a system that uses the word adaptive, but it is not what one thinks of as real adaptive suspension. I just don't know which electric car has it at this price point.
Air is no softer than bent steel ! Any suspension engineer will tell you that.
@@BrianJense Most BMW’s have adapative suspension so not sure where you looked.
@@maxflight777 your point?
@@colinnich Are you serious? I have no actual sales figures, but more than a million Model Ys have been sold WITHOUT one. The rear glass panels are tinted from the factory. The parcel shelf is a recent feature, introduced as usual in China.
I think the biggest reason is noise cancelling from the back, the explain that it is solid and slid away
Runs to the driveway to check over his Model Y LR Shanghai to compare to this video .... (Delivered last Friday)
all these product updates have been implemented in tesla shanghai by the end of june. tesla makes small changes for their products from time to time. in theory, all factories should produce same products if the receipe is the same.
Always informative, interesting and fun. Thank you guys :)
Ride and handling are brilliant, I have had very few issues with phantom braking and I can't see any need for a HUD.
@@hiddeninsweden I have also driven both and would say that the ride feels quite similar.
@@hiddeninsweden The suspension is indeed tweaked for the Berlin car for better or for worse.. It’s softer however I’ve heard owners saying it leans more which is contradicting the “Performance”-brand. They should’ve but that suspension in the Long Range instead. Other than that I’ve seen pictures and clips from numerous forums of Berlin builds, some sublime, some have misaligned doors, headlights and so on.. Is the Berlin car better built? I’d beg to differ - however it seems to be on pair with the Shanghai cars.. Also don’t forget, the tweaks the Berlin Performance cars got over earlier Long Range cars are now present on the Q2 builds from Shanghai. Cheers Buddy
I hope My Model y (arriving on rhe boat tommorow) has the parcel shelf fitted :-) I'd imagine that would help on reverberation noise. Would be interesting to see if they've updated suspension for that shipment too
If it helps, I had mine delivered last Friday (I'm in England), it's Shanghai built and did come with the parcel shelf
@@CHDunham123 fingers crossed then. I’m Uk also and it’s due Thursday. Very excited
@@mowburnt man, pleased for you, it's so fun when it arrives. I had a test drive back in Feb but kinda forgot just how good the speed, traction and torque is. Gotta be careful though, blink and you are doing 50 in a 30 zone without realising 😬
@@CHDunham123 lol. I've never test driven a model y or any tesla....should be fun
It doesn't help though. Still booming sounds at low speed
Any predictions when the X will make it to the U.K? I’ve had an order in since 2020. First world problem for sure but still frustrating.
Still no ceiling handles but pleased that models continuously improve over time.
Ceiling handles are definitely not a necessity
I would prefer to have a parcel shelf. It cuts down on noise from the rear load area. I have a Tesla Model Y on order but asked for delivery to be delayed until August - September, as I wasn't available to receive the car when they were originally proposing to deliver in end Jun / early Jul, so hope I now receive a Model Y with parcel shelf. Have you seen any new UK Model Ys arrive with the parcel shelf fitted?
Always top quality content and great to see the ride issue being addressed although my Standard range is acceptable would be nice to have t(e edge taken off…
There’s also four steel hooks for securing in the trunk. I don’t know if that’s new? Still missing the flexible partition net though..
Got my Shanghai MY LR with 20 inch wheels about 4 months ago. Initially didn't mind the hard suspension but now it's starting to really annoy me.
Hi great video , do the new 2023 MYP come with these upgrades carpet , updaters soft plastics and heated wipers ? Or is it just the Berlin models ?
Very good vid you have very nice voice and presentation.👍👍👍
Do you know when the German built Tesla Y ( long range) will start to be delivered in the UK?
Generally parcel shelves stop some noice from entering the cabin.
I agree. I want to try one of the latest batch of Y to see!
Just collected a MYLR, Shanghai built. Can confirm the suspension is more compliant than the Y I test drove in March. It also has a parcel shelf and the bigger bolsters on the seats, but the rear seat sides are still plastic, not carpet.
@@guyhawkins557 What exactly have they changed with the seats? I've been trying to find out, but I can't find anyone else mentioning it anywhere. Do you know of any photos of the new seats anywhere online? Thanks
Edit: I've just realised some new seats with bigger bolsters are shown in this video... duh (I did watch it, but it was a few weeks ago and I didn't take any notice of that part then, because I thought they were a Performance thing rather than something that was being changed on the LR too). So are the seats in your LR exactly like the ones shown in this video?
@@RSEV have you had a chance to try any of the latest batch yet, or will you let us know when you do?
(and is it a new batch starting this month (August), or have I got my delivery months mixed up?)
The parcel shelve is one more potential source for rattles
No rattles in mine performance made in Berlin . Surprisingly quiet car even with 21”.
@@runerosenvold7411 Can you check this "issue" in your model Y, Thanks ruclips.net/video/97c4YfyifJ0/видео.html
That's why it has magnets...
The parcel shelf will spend its time in the garage/attic...leaves no room for the dog!
This is filmed on a phone? Awesome quality! I guess iphone?
Great video 👍
Seats definitely look different
The spectrum is different too 🤣 and when you realise it was all filmed on an iPhone 📱💁🏻♂️😎
I wonder if they changed the suspension on the performance and didn’t update the long range 🤔 The performance did feel smoother on the last test drive. The LR I received feels a tad rougher
Are we getting model 3 from the Berlin factory in the UK you reckon?
Great video as always Richard. I have learnt so much from watching them thank you. My model Y should be delivered this week. Do we think suspension etc has been updated in Shanghai ones being delivered now?
No worries, thanks. Congratulations on your Y. New suspension maybe.. 💁♂️
(I’d like to try one from latest batch)
Well car has arrived and its brilliant. From driving a number of demo's i would say the ride has improved. Doesnt crash over pot holes / uneven surfaces. Also i would say handling seems better. Less body role than i remember
Great video as always!! Thanks! :-)
Did you notice lowered suspension. Ground clearance is a concern for me.
more or less the same height.
since Berlin is getting battery from CATL, I dont know if Tesla wants to ship 4680 across the Atlantic
Do we know when/if Giga Berlin will be producing RHD cars?
Great to hear that the suspension sounds a touch more forgiving and they have addressed the issues of rattling seatbelts and rear headrests etc
Will be q1 23 for my MYP it appears (April order).
Have been keeping an eye on the GV60, but they are working out more expensive than a MYP once you tick a couple of boxes.
i know performance 3s have same suspension as LRs since early ‘22
so i assume its the same thing for the Y
Any guess when U.K. will get Berlin built Y LR?
Good news for suspension, I’ve got U.K. launch price reservation Y LR on hold for Berlin built ones.
Is the plastic being more squishy worse or better?
is this happening in bicester, gutted i missed it
why can't tesla make a power operated frunk lid on their cars
There are no other manufacturers that do that either except for pick ups like Rivian or Ford F150 Lightning.
Maybe it isn't used enough to warrant this as it isn't huge like the pickup EVs...
I agree, I use the frunk on every trip … a power lift essential.
I miss my foot sensor on the boot too, every single time
My 2020 X5 MSPORT had adaptive dampers … the replacement (2022 PVG built Tesla MY LR with acceleration boost does not)
The Tesla ride / handling is far superior to the clunky X5
