It is confirmed in the Abomination Vault that the only way anything can be truly destroyed, is by casting it into Oblivion, which also the heaviest sentence the Council can give, destroying someone absolutely. So whatever The Lord of Hollows does or what happens to souls devoured by demons and the like, they aren't destroyed and most likely will return to the Well of the Souls eventually. But I do wonder if the souls that Vulgrim devours, that are collected through out the game, are really the "complete souls of the death" or just "soul pieces left behind", this seeing how even lantern poles releases souls when destroyed. The soul piece idea would also explain why souls of the dead has such a long process to pass through the city of the Dead. As it would mean the souls has to be cleansed of memory and the damage repaired.
That's not an unreasonable possibility, especially since some souls escape the City of the Dead process or are destroyed during the purification process.
@@the_dropbear4392 True. They won't return to the Well of Souls as long as the Lord of The Hollows lives. But they still exist inside him, they aren't erased from existence, as would be the case if they were thrown into Oblivion.
I don't think being tossed into Oblivion destroys you... you are just tossed from Creation and can never be reborn anew from the Well of Souls... plus what is even more terrifying is you remain conscious and alive while within that timeless realm of nothingness (I think that was implied in the book but I could be miss-remembering). If you have played Darksiders 3 the new Lord of Hollows can perform the "Hollowing" and that does actually destroy ones soul absolutely (destroys immortal souls so that they can never pass through the Well of Souls and be reborn anew).
@@the_dropbear4392 - I think he literally destroys the souls of those who offer themselves up to the "Hollowing"... I think he destroys them completely and absorbs the raw power of them afterwards (this no more soul from the being who was Hollow'ed).
Awesome videos, i love this series. My thoughts on the weapons the 4 use is this. The 4 represent different points of turmoil whether it be from within our an outward force coming upon them and I find it interesting as to how Vigil is releasing them in the order they are (or maybe I'm delving too deeply) as War is first, and this unleashes Armageddon or the Great War. Death comes next to save the deaths of humanity by giving his life. Fury, my thoughts on this is episode has more to do with the horsemen gaining more knowledge on the REAL puppetmasters behind the conspiracy that saw the leader of the hellguard fall to ruin and the imprisonment of the most honorable of the 4 and thus enduring the fury of the 4. Then Strife, will have the 4 wage their own war upon the one we are waiting to see step out from behind the curtain and strife from the 4 will be wrought unto them. Now coming back to the weapons, each weapon saps the essence of the horseman's entity and fuels what they represent
Understandable and certainly a potentially correct view. With one thing being slightly off course. According to the original plan from the THQ staff they wanted a total of 5 games. 1.War, 2. Death, 3. Fury, 4. Strife, And 5. a 4 player Co-op game following the end of Darksiders 1 where the 4 housemen would ride against a combined threat. We believe Strife's game will actually take place before all 3 of his brother's and sister and explain (HOPEFULLY!) what happened to him though that is purely conjecture on our part. As far we know THQ Nordic wants to keep to that same original plan for 5 games. (at least we hope they do. )
Game Informer recently released an interview with the head of Gunfire where he states that they would like to do a fourth game. He said that much of development for DS3 was spent on rebuilding things in UE4, and along with DS being a passion of his, not making another game would be a waste of all that time and effort. This indicates that we will likely get at least one more game, though I find it more likely that they will stick with the original plan they had back at Vigil. Plus, it would be a shame to see Strife be denied the same focus that the other three have been given.
Thanks for the responses!! And you're very right. I had listed these thoughts several years after my initial process of it all and honestly it would only suit the series to have 5 games and hopefully it would be just as fun in depth and intriguing as they have with the first 2. I'm utterly in love with the approach and the story of this series and the artwork is amazing. I get some of the issues with gameplay and in game stuff but I feel those could get overlooked if the team succeeds in bringing those other 3 aspects to all of the games, while hopefully ironing out the issues of course. My only other intrigue woukd be of Samael, he's thanks intriguing character other then say the horsemen...yes, even more than Lucifer though he would be third because I seriously thought that the Destroyer was the Lucifer of the universe....how blissfully wrong I was.
@@timothykaminski1978 They definitely have set the ground work for some awesome games, and I have no doubt that DS3 will be just as good as the previous two. Samael clearly has his own agenda, and I would wager that we will find out what it is before the series ends

Death didn't use harvester in ds2 for some reason. Maybe when he reaches earth on war breaking the last seal, he will take it from war, currently known to have possession of the harvester.
As far as the comics and book have told us the Harvester is basically mission locked. By that we mean that the Harvester is not allowed to be used by death unless he is on a sanctioned council mission, Hence why he doesn't use it in the comics, Does use it in the book and once again doesn't use it on his unsanctioned mission in DS2.
@@TrueMastersandMorons so thats why he is finding himself a new weapon from vulgrim in one of the comics. Still wondering how did the harvester end up in War's hand (if thats canonical) in DS1.
@@Gabber1110 I honestly doubt that the Harvester being in DS1 is cannon. It seems more like a cool easter egg, especially since the code to get it was originally a pre-order bonus.
I don't think that the secondary weapon in darksiders2 is the harvester... Mainly because when you use the secondary weapon you can still clearly see the the scythes at his waist, but I do really like that he can change the harvesters form.
It's not, We simply said that due to how much he can change the Harvester that if he wanted to he could make it into those secondary weapons. it's an amusing thought we decided to share, it's in no way possible to be cannon. But we agree and had never thought about the synths at his hips. :)
While the novel does establish that the Harvester can shapeshift at Death's will and I too thought that at least his scythes in the game are variations of it, the Darksiders II comic "Deaths Door" makes it much more clear that Death doesn't use the Harvester for some undisclosed reason except for when he is in his Reaper Form. To clarify: In the comic, he visits a particular demon meddler not unrelated to this video and asks for a pair of scythes he can use on a mission not sanctioned by the Council. For the price of a Hydra's tongue he gets them. That and the fact that Death acquires all of his weapons by picking them up from enemies, bosses and/or chests, that there are legendary and possesed ones among them and that they all vary hugely in power leads me to think that none of them are the Harvester and are instead simply weapons he picks up and uses. *Edit:* Shit, you even mention that point... that's weird... *Edit 2:* Since you referenced the Abomination Vault so often in the early parts of this video, I found it a bit disappointing that you didn't mention the supernatural, living, self-reloading revolver from that story when you talked about Strife's weaponry. It's been a while since I last read the novel but as I remember its endless supply of ammunition came from unnatural, sharp teeth constantly being pulled from another dimension. I'm not sure whether or not this is one of the two weapons of choice Strife uses but at least there are parallels and similarities. *Edit 3:* Now that Darksiders III is out and we know all the different forms Fury's weapon assumes, how the Hollows play into it etc. and with some of the very insightful comments (hopefully including mine) on this video, would you consider doing a version 2.0 of this video with the added information? *Edit 4:* I don't know how much can be said about them but it feels weird that you didn't mention the Serpent Holes, Vulgrim's preferred method of travel. I think they're extremely interesting and it's very intriguing how Samael is also able to use them but his look samey but very different - less structured with lots of useless floor and most notably a completely different tint of the skybox, implying that the abilities of the user define how that dimension takes shape.
Regarding Edit 2: We didn't mention that gun because there is no evidence that Strife has ever gotten his hands on it. (But we do have a video on the Grand Abominations, in which we go over that gun) Regarding Edit 3: Possibly? We have a few of these with new information, but we probably won't get around to them until newer Darksiders content requests have been worked through. Regarding Edit 4: Mostly we didn't reference the Serpent Holes because they're not a power, ability, etc. that are possessed by Vulgrim alone, as you mention Samael can use them, so can the Horsemaster of the far fields, so presumably plenty of people can use them. Also thanks for your solid input!
Switching strifes bow from the revelation for two handguns is an interesting thing. If we get ds 4 or a solo game for strife, i would like to see him with a bow. If we get a vulgrim boss fight against him, he better be a difficult one. He must be close to a god with all the souls he ate.
Btw something i thought was that maybe their weapons were grand abominations but like weak ones. After all war's sword is said to be thirsty for destruction if I remember correct. Both the harvester and the chaoseater also obey their masters so it could be arguied its simple the sentient weapon obeying them. It would also explain why the harvester can turn into so many weapons.
Thanks for the lore request :) The Abomination Vault novel specifically mentions that Harvester is not a Grand Abomination, and the other three Nephilim, (War, Fury, Strife) didn't even know they existed. So we presume that none of their weapons are abominations either.
Actually contrary to popular belief, Death's dual shapeshifting scythes are not the Harvester. We know this because Death can summon that same massive scythe separately from the smaller ones. The smaller ones are just weapons he buys from marchents.
Actually his Harvester can turn into two shape shifting weapons he does buy the ones we see him use in his game from merchants because the council puts limitations on where exactly he can haul the thing but Death made the Harvester and made it to be able to do the whole shape shifting thing. :) You are correct of course that the normal weapons he walks around with are not the Harvester. :)
No he is not dead in the majority of Darksiders 1 which happens after Darksiders 3. As well as he works as a merchant again for Fury in her game. It is a cool idea though. :)
Actually death did not use his own original scythes in darksiders two he used the tongue to buy new scythes since he was not on a Council sanctioned Mission he could wield his personal scythes since it is very forbidden for him to use them unless on a council mission
Vulgrum... Tin foil hat theory. But maybe he is the Creator. By that I mean the Creator takes the form of vulgrum to travel freely amoung the demons and Earth. Also being able to interact with the horsemen
Spoiler ahead for those who haven't play DS 3 ... I think there's a strong indication that Strife gave his weapon to the Makers after Humans left Haven with Fury that can assist his brothers (notably War) somehow. Though the timeline maybe a bit confusing for now, it is a theory we can't set aside imo
But we can basically 100% confirm at least Death is coming back. The Prince of Demons can see the future, and said "I'll see you again" before War died without seeing him again.
That is our running theory, that Strife's game (presumably ending in his death) takes place before the rest of the games, meaning that in Darksiders 1, 2, and 3 he'd be dead. But that's just our theory. Also yes, at the end of Darksiders 2 it straight up tells us that Death will rise again, presumably meaning all of the horsemen (Who we see being summoned at the end of Darksiders 1) will also rise from their graves should they die.

Samael clearly has his own agenda, and I would wager that we will find out what it is before the series ends

for those who may not know vulgrim is a resident of the void which connects to all of creation through the serpent holes in the same way as the tree of life just on a different plain of existence
Real talk, Vulgrim is one of my favorite NPCs in gaming history.
vulgrims goin be the final boss
lol
Put out an update on the weapons please.
Weapon switch finishers for each horsemen on a off horse
(But we do have a video on the Grand Abominations, in which we go over that gun)
Regarding Edit 3: Possibly? We have a few of these with new information, but we probably won't get around to them until newer Darksiders content requests have been worked through.
Regarding Edit 4: Mostly we didn't reference the Serpent Holes because they're not a power, ability, etc. that are possessed by Vulgrim alone, as you mention Samael can use them, so can the Horsemaster of the far fields, so presumably plenty of people can use them.
Also thanks for your solid input!
Ulthane made War's weapon
Switching strifes bow from the revelation for two handguns is an interesting thing. If we get ds 4 or a solo game for strife, i would like to see him with a bow.
If we get a vulgrim boss fight against him, he better be a difficult one. He must be close to a god with all the souls he ate.
The entirety of Strifes game will ve trying to re-obtain his guns.
lol, he'd spend the whole game so pissed!
"Where are my goddamn guns"
@@Dekarowski25 I actually think, he will have a mission across the different realms, like Death. that would explain, why his guns are in makers hands.
War also owns the Armageddon blade
I mean yeah but that's not his weapon just like the myriad of weapons from DS2 aren't truly deaths weapons.
@@TrueMastersandMorons hey finder keepers right lol
Miss yall
Wow my comment was in this video! XD I am just surprised
Thanks for the lore request :)
The Abomination Vault novel specifically mentions that Harvester is not a Grand Abomination, and the other three Nephilim, (War, Fury, Strife) didn't even know they existed.
@@TrueMastersandMorons That makes sense.
You left out Vulgrim is a collector as well IE the pages of the book of the dead. and the Artifacts of the fallen legions.
But Redemption's cylinder has eight chambers, so it just magically gets two extra ones? Easier to remember having 10 shots than 8? lol
Can you guys do a video on War's and Death's other weapons that were sealed away in those levitating statue things wrapped around in chains?
Would you consider doing a lore video on Ostegoth?

Guys it's time for you guys to talk about darksiders 3!
Sorry to say it's not going to happen until we finish playing Darksiders 3. :)
Here's a thought on Valgruum. With how gluttonous he is could he be one of the seven deadly sins.
No he is not dead in the majority of Darksiders 1 which happens after Darksiders 3. As well as he works as a merchant again for Fury in her game. It is a cool idea though. :)
Gotta admire Vulgrim
Vulgrim gives War ths Soul Harvester in Darksiders 1
And he yells you that Death told him to give it to War at Death's request
you are my sword and u ll be stand at my back!
end of story
*dont forget who holds the leassh*
what
Actually death did not use his own original scythes in darksiders two he used the tongue to buy new scythes since he was not on a Council sanctioned Mission he could wield his personal scythes since it is very forbidden for him to use them unless on a council mission
Forbidden ...
Vulgrum... Tin foil hat theory. But maybe he is the Creator. By that I mean the Creator takes the form of vulgrum to travel freely amoung the demons and Earth. Also being able to interact with the horsemen

I think there's a strong indication that Strife gave his weapon to the Makers after Humans left Haven with Fury that can assist his brothers (notably War) somehow. Though the timeline maybe a bit confusing for now, it is a theory we can't set aside imo

Is Strife... Dead? I feel like that could be a definitive possibility.
Wouldn't matter he would just be resurrected as soon as the seven seals are broken
As of yet each horseman has died at the end of his game.
Do you think that all 4 Horsemen will end up dead?
