Regarding the timeline of 2 and 3, I agree that Death starts his quest before Fury, but I'd argue that it does take him 99+ years to finish his quest, or at least way past Fury's quest. Death is only briefly on earth on his quest, the rest of the time he's in different realms/worlds, who said time passes the same there as on earth? We see Archon looking at The Destroyer (a scene from Darksiders 1 ending), and then when Death sacrifices himself (after going to another realm and time travels there, then goes on to fight Absalom), the cutscenes do indicate/suggest that it happened simultaneously as the first game. I think for Death, Fury and War it takes as long as it takes us the player to finish the game, but time on earth and other realms are different.
Ah dimensional and temporal travel, so prone to screw with any attempted timeline, lol. These are legitimate points, that we had considered, but there's never any mention of temporal displacement in the media so we don't have anything to work with if that's the case.
I literally wanted to write practicly the same. But i think its not all worlds, more the world of the "Afterlife" were a not small part of Deaths journey took place. This world is inhabitet by Souls and creatures with out ageing. It is here were i see the potential that far more time has passed than we noticed. As for Fury i think her Quest ended far before Deaths did but she just spended the rest of time protecting humanity
I completely agree with this since yeah time could be slower in the realm of the dead and death did spend quite a bit of time there possibly even more time then he spends in any other realm in the game and also we cant exactly tell how much time passed when he is knocked out in the veil and when he wakes up in the forgelands
I think Fury’s path ended much earlier. The Destroyer has not acquired his seat of power and we see him leading the assault on Haven before Fury disappears into the Portal Pool. Death, like you said, ends up completing his journey just as War and Abaddon fight in the finale of Darksiders 1. Fury is... we don’t know where and Strife’s existence is unknown due to him staying behind so that Fury could escape. I assume, because Ulthane survives - Strife does as well and somehow crosses into the realms because Death acquires one of Strife’s pistols, Redemption. It is entirely possible that Death could have been unconscious in the Forgelands for quite a while and the flow of time is undetermined at this point. I’m willing to bet it’s fifty-fifty, that Death could have been asleep for some amount of years and then, upon waking, his journey takes another amount of decades until Darksiders 2 and 1’s finale sync up.
Oshri Getreuer In the case of Death i always believed that location of Shadows Edge is where the time shenanigans begins. Not only because of Phase walker and time portals but also for the fact that when Death first arrives in location that world is very close to the Abyss. It looked like a black hole (i think is a very good representation of what abyss should be) and maybe the force of this abyss made time to go faster like it was in Interstellar.
at last thank you true masters and morons for finally putting the darksiders franchise's story into an organized timeline you have done a wonderful service for not only myself and the darksiders fanbase but also for the potenitally endless number of new fans that might become inspired to check out the series for themselves thanks to this video
@@TrueMastersandMorons by the way could you guys do more lore videos on the legacy of kain the world of nosgoth is so extremely fleshed out to an extent that at times it is overwhelming
Just what I needed after finishing Darksiders 3 (Praise Steamsale!)... makes me itching to play Darksiders 4 since Strife seems to be a really honorable/badass dude.
Moxtordoki 96 well yeah, during War’s campaign in Darksiders 1, The Destroyer was in complete control and his tower was complete. In Darksiders 3, Abraxis explains he was still in the process of building the tower and then The Destroyer capitalizes on the death of the deadly Sins by attacking Haven. He had not acquired the Well of Souls yet from Azreal.
"Death had already peaced out" XD I love it! He heard the news about War, went "Bullsh**. Imma fix this," then up and left without telling anyone anything. (though it does seem a little weird that it took ten years. Is Death just so out of touch with Creation at large that it took that long to get the news?) I would argue that the novel takes place before War loses his arm because when Death comes back after the 500 years, that's the first time anyone has seen him with Dust. So he gave the amulet to the Crowfather during that time, and it makes the most sense to me that Death would have done that immediately (or at least soon) after Eden. (also what Javier Zaragoza said about Chaoseater) I concur about the pacing of games 2 & 3. Fury's especially definitely doesn't take 90 years; those humans are way too young for that. Plus the Dark Tower is still under construction, and I would expect it to be finished well before the events of the first game. Great video, guys!
ALL the lore! But maybe Lord of Hollows next? One on the Crucibles would be neat too, though it might need to be part of an assorted lore video. Not sure how long that would be on its own.
Actually, there's no sign of Dust in the comic when War loses his arm. There are a lot of crows helping themselves to the carrion, but no sign that any of them are attached to Death. That's not to say Dust isn't there - he has a talent for making himself scarce when the fighting starts. That said, I do think the Abomination Vault takes place before War loses his arm for a few reasons. First, howeverlong it was that Death kept hold of the amulet with the Nephilim souls is how long he had to hide it from the Council, since I'm pretty sure they ordered it destroyed. Second - and this is from the wiki, so take with a grain of salt - that battlefield where War loses his arm is supposedly on Earth. Which would mean after humanity was created and then driven out of Eden. During the Abomination Vault Eden is vacant, waiting for humanity to claim it. We know that's before humanity was created and not after they were driven out of Eden because in the first game Azrael says he hid Eden rather than destroy it - an idea it is suggested came to him after hearing about how the Nephilim hid the Grand Abominations in their pocket-dimension vault.
@@Lodrelhai I wasn't trying to imply that Dust can be seen in the comic, just that I think acquiring Dust was probably one of the first things that happened after Eden. Those are all good points, thanks!
Took me probably 3 times to watch and finally get how all games connect accordingly. Hopefully we get the 4th where we get to see what was Strife doing on Earth and the 5th would most likely be all 4 and playing by switching between them
According to the devs of the first Darksiders, they came up with the name Ruin by pondering the question "What follows war?". The answer being "Only ruin". Then they used the same method to name Death's steed and I assume Gunfire Games did the same with Fury's steed. So, what follows strife? I don't think it's discord because discord and strife are actually synonyms.
I think he has his regular arm during the Abomination Vault. I'm rereading it and there's a part where War wonders how Death would fair against Chaoseater being stabbed through his chest
I was going to comment that myself because I remember that scene sticking out to me because of the comic. Honestly at this point I think the first comic can be considered non canon mostly (mainly the war losing his arm part) mainly because of the book which they (Vigil) promoted a lot more than the comic which barely got mention before DS1's release. At least imo
We totally forgot about that piece of information. So actually based on that, the order of the Book and War losing his arm is probably switched. Awesome! Thanks guys!
One funny thing about Darksiders 3, Fury couldnt kill a single one of the seven deadly sins without the power ups she got from the lord of hollows, envy at the start was obviously a fake, and she almost died fighting wrath. Its kinda funny how Fury at the start of Darksiders 3 was so high on her own ego she claimed she could "take those fools on her sleep" when she couldnt take a single one of them on a real fight
Haven’t been here in a while! Good to see you guys still going at it! Would still love to see an explanation on the 3 horsemen modes that they have! Death=Reaper, War=Chaos And ect. I know we don’t have strife yet but it’d still be awesome on those 3 for now
I think Darksiders 3 takes place BEFORE Darksiders 2. It would explain why Strife has both of his pistols in Darksiders 3 but Death got one of them in the beginning of Darksiders 2. Maybe something happened to Strife after the end of Darksiders 3 and that's why his brothers each got one of his pistols. Also, at the end of Darksiders 3 we see The Destroyer starting to lay waste of what's left of humanity (a task we see completed in Darksiders 1) and during Darksiders 2 when Death goes briefly to Earth, he sees it already in ruins and very few humans are left alive (well, we only see the hunter and for all we know, he could be the only one left alive... until the end of the DLC that is). I think it is possible that Darksiders 1 and Darksiders 2 end more or less at the same time, or at the very least Darksiders 1 ends shortly after Darksiders 2. That's how it seems when the Crowfather narrates it anyway - Death sacrifices himself and the souls of the Nephilim embedded in his chest to ressurect all of humanity, then shortly after Uriel destroys the Seventh Seal (the Crowfather says it was War, but it was actually Uriel), ressurecting both War and Death and summoning them to Earth, along with Fury and Strife.
There has been a developer confirmation that that is the case however it either didn't' exist or at the very least we couldn't find it until after this video was made. :)
Thanks for the reply. Those were my own thoughts, based on what I've seen in all 3 games (that's why I started the comment with the words "I think"), so it's nice to have an official confirmation. If the devs had said otherwise, it wouldn't have made sense, for the reasons I listed in my first comment.
I personally think the ending of DS2 is like this: Death revives the souls, crowfather is the storyteller, all the loading screens after u quit the game are said from the future as a story of the past. Thus i believe crowfather is refering to war after the rest of the time needed for the 7th seal to break. It will be anticlimatic to just say: But death's journey didn;t end, it took 100 more years and a lot of fighting on his brothers side but he eventually revives.
We agree, From a story point it's just better to expedite matters and say "and then later this happened" rather than explaining the exactitudes of time. :)
I always found it funny how at the end of DS2 the Crowfather told how War broke the Seventh Seal in a way that seemed Death's Sacrifice happened shortly before the end of DS1. Because Death revived mankind just for the Apocalypse to really start now while they're still not ready lol.
Thanks for sharing and I was wonder how everything was put together. It really helps a lot of my question being answered also. Keep doing what doing. Thanks again
Great Video! I love being able to see especially the books in order, and the placement of lilith etc I'm pretty sure that in Darksiders 2 they claim that humanity has fallen already, but in Darksiders 3 there are still clearly numerous humans alive in hiding. Because of this I'm pretty sure that Darksiders 2 takes place after Darksiders 3. I can imagine that it took Death a while before the opening scene of Darksiders 2 to get to the crowfather. So Probably Death Leaves -> Darksiders 2 Happens -> Last of men are slain or leave to where fury is -> Darksiders 2 happens Not to mention that The Destroyer had already shown himself during Darksiders 2, whereas he only came to be the Destroyer during the events of Darksider 3
Hapmaplapflap gap Death’s arrival on Earth and fighting Belial could also suggest that the Hunter (human) Death meets has given up the location of Haven to Belial who informed the rest.
Ok so there’s a few things that show that while some parts may happen at the same time..most of Darksiders 2 happens AFTER Darksiders 3. 1) the tower of Straga. In Darksiders 3 the tower is in the midst of being built and is very bare bones and half done. In Darksiders 2 , during the earth mission to get the rod, as you fight your way along the last zone where the bridge is, you can see the tower of Straga in the distance. Not totally complete but further along than in Darksiders 3. 2) the intro. In the Darksiders 2 intro... it states that during deaths journey, the destroyer and the chosen are more or less already somewhat established. In Darksiders 3, the destroyer hasn’t fully revealed himself as the general behind it all until he attacks the sanctuary of Ulthane. 3) the Darksiders 2 DLC. In the DLC death finds the last human on earth and eventually slays him upon request. So all other humans have gone with fury by that point in the game. 4). The Darksiders 3 epilogue. Lilith is told by lucifer that corruption will take care of everything and that corruption/absalon hadn’t really made a major move yet. This makes me think that there could be a time lapse when death is pulled through the gate at the beginning that the crow father opened upon his death. Death was sent far to the edge of the dying universe and that could have taken decades via time warp and space physics/worm hole effect. Once he’s on the old ones world it seems corruption is in full swing. 4 ) the seeing pool of the archon. This one is unfortunately not very reliable as the seeing pool that corrupted the archon seems to have the ability to see through time. The first time death meets the archon , he is viewing pre fallen abbadon. ( the clip is from when he convinces azrael to break the seals) when next we see him peering into the pool we see post fallen abbadon (the clip is from when he’s talking to war with passed out Uriel in his claws). Now whether he is seeing those events or whether it was just a way for the studio to save money by reusing old clips that were meant to be brand new scenes... is unclear. Obviously the prefallen scene is before the game so definitely isn’t happening at the same time death walks in on the archon and the scene with the destroyer is the end of the Darksiders 1 game , and death still has a 1/4 game left at that point. 5) strifes guns. Death gets a gun from the makers that might be a copy but also might not be a copy. It might be strifes. We know that strife was with ulthane in D3. Ulthane gives war the other gun (or replica) but it may actually be his other gun and we know Ulthane was with death. But even if strife and Ulthane had met on the makers home world before Ulthane traveled to earth ( they could have traveled together) that doesn’t make sense cus strife still had his guns. My thought is that strife leaves a gun with Ulthane and Ulthane makes a portal to the makers home world for strife to escape the destroyers army. He then leaves his second gun on the makers home world after D3 ends and takes off before death arrives. 6) Darksiders 3 dlc. The serpent holes are needed for vulgrim to travel to the makers world to offer wares to death in D2. And he can’t until fury clears it out. So... essentially... the only thing that makes sense timeline wise is : Darksiders 3 prologue, Darksiders 1 prologue, war imprisoned, death goes on a journey and searches for answers and takes years tracking down the crow father ( traveling the universe without permission or help may take time) , Darksiders 3 happens, during which death find the crow father defeats him, gets knocked out and sent through a portal that causes a time lapse, Darksiders 3 ends, death wakes up on the makers world, the rest of the events of Darksiders 2 happen, death dies in the well of souls and either stays dead for many years or the time in the tree of life also has different rules, the rest Darksiders 1 happens, seals break. 4 horsemen resurrect and reunite at full power. The end
Well done. EDIT: The only change maybe is DS3 may end before War is sent off for his revenge by the Council (I know he was not in the chamber chained up but he could have been elsewhere on the Charred Council world as it would make more sense that he was sent after the rebellion of Fury... also the state of Earth in DS3 would indicate that it was after as the Spire was not as high and Ulthane didn't leave his tree post until after Fury left to fight Envy and the Council).
Game Loot for sure. I guess I didn’t specify, but yeah DS3 definitely ends before War gets sent to earth. DS2 is the only one that probably overlaps the two games somehow. But aside from the DS1 prologue, DS1 definitely happens after DS3
Seriel McLeod see I think Ulthane was in the process of replicating Strife’s Mercy at Strife’s request to better arm humanity. But the Destroyer getting to Haven interrupts all of that. This could be why Ulthane only has Mercy and gives it to War in Darksiders 1.
Game Loot Not to mention, in the post-credits scene we can hear Lucifer telling Lilith that the Council was going to send War to clear his name and that he would revel in the chaos. He, while bothered that Fury has the Lord of Hollow’s trinket, is confident that Fury doesn’t know what it is.
I kinda feel like it was 3,1,2. Furys quest initiated right as war was killed by straga initially and finished before War officially met Ulthane. #2 took place partially during Wars quest but ended very long afterwards given the state of the earth. I sumise based on the ending death jumped into the well of souls just before War broke the seal and officially began the apocalypse. With strife on "other business" he probably was set to investigate Lucifer and his high ranking demons since we know abbadon instigated alot of crap and strife was sent in too secret to ensure there would be no further advantage taken by the demons and Liliths trickery
The devs have confirmed that the order is, beginning section of DS1, 10 year gap to DS3 some time later DS2, Some time later DS1 main game. :) Death died long before the final seal was broken. :) We didn't have this confirmation at the time of the writing of this video hence us having DS2 and DS3 mixed up. :)
Thanks for the reply guys. I guess the way ds2 ended made it sound like death died right as war broke the seal officially. With genesis in the works I cannot wait for ds4. Strifes personality is hysterical
My head canon is that Darksiders 2 started before 3, but also finished after it, since the humans there are explicitly called survivors, but I may be wrong
So... Death's journey occurs just before War's on Earth, but at the same time as Fury's, but then the big D dies sacrificing himself and the Nephlem's souls to resurrect humanity, and is brought back by the end of War's story? Huh. They love interweaving the Horsemen's journeys in a damn near convoluted way, don't they?
He's not physically in the room. But unless it took Fury about 90 years to track all the sins down (unlikely given the humans in Ulthane's care mostly seeming to be middle aged the whole time) he was still locked up by the Council.
Wouldn’t her tossing the talisman essentially destroy the rock statues of the Council? Like aren’t the council supposed to be more than just stone faces? Once she tossed it at them one if not all should’ve been destroyed
With regard to the end of DS2, we dont know how long Death stayed dead, or how long it took for humanity to re-appear fully. The narrator says the ‘seeds of humanity were re-sown’ so it could be decades if not centuries before humanity returns properly or at least to the level they were at the beginning of DS 1. so Death’s journey may not have taken 90+ years.
I will say that Ds2 starts a bit before Ds3, but Ds2 finishes a bit later than Ds3 just from the simple fact that during Ds3, the Destroyers tower is in the middle of construction whereas during Ds2, when you visit Earth, the tower is completed.
I think that Gunfire planed Darksiders 4 among with 3. And it will take place between 3 and 2. At least is what the other two makers in Haven makes me think. My theory: They'll probably have an adventure with Strife and Ulthane. And then, Strife will give his pistols: Mercy to Ulthane and Redemption to the bearded maker (could he be Valus? Alya's brother).
Charles LaMueve the pistol Mercy that Ulthane gives War was described to be a fake and not the real thing. Strife could have given Ulthane the idea so that he could make more to give humanity a fighting chance, but the Assault on Haven interrupted that.
For 2 I always did theorise that some time did pass after death become unconscious and got teleported into the makers world and/or after he was pulled into the tree and woke up in the realm of the dead Plus when both death and the nephalim essentially died to bring back humanity, the remaining years would’ve flown by instsntly. Due to the seals reviving all the horsemen that could’ve/would’ve died I don’t really have any prove with most of these though, I don’t know how most ways of teleportation works in that universe and just based it off of death not really keeping track of down every time he’s knocked out, he doesn’t necessarily have to fairly,
Like Mopiece said, The watcher was never a watcher she was Envy in disguise,. The only thing we don't know for certain is what exactly the first boss is, there are many ideas but we haven't researched it enough to give you a concrete answer. But don't you worry. :) It's coming. :P
I myself wish the game went into more detail. Clearly Envy loathed the Council so how could they not know? We’re told the Seven Deadly Sins were released on purpose but it couldn’t have been by the Council’s hand despite Fury staying the contrary.
It takes place before everything. The Four had just slain their kin at Eden and the Council gives them a job to investigate Lucifer. Even the seals have not constructed.
Well to me Fury was saving the last survivors of the war that erupted at the prologue of Darksiders one. Billions died in the subsequent years after. Death fought to bring those billions back. My opinion is that Fury story and Death start about the same time but Deaths story ends way later. Maybe not 90 years.... But Darksiders Genesis is upon us!! Who knows what juicy foreshadowing will be in it. Maybe even see a glimpse of Lucifer!!
ahh ok was a bit confused about the whole thing (going thru all the 3 games now on number 2 right now) but genesis seems to be a story before everything? considering strife says in the name of the council in the trailer but who knows
We don’t know yet exactly how that works, we don’t even know where Fury went. She could have taken them to the plains where we first see Fury with Rampage and then with Death resurrecting humanity, he became aware of where Fury’s group had migrated and brought humanity back there. The seventh seal is broken and Fury, Strife, and Death arrive to Earth.
Im gonna say that maybe time passes differently in the realm of the dead and the forgelands which is why it seems that 90 years have passed between 2 and 1. Thoughts?
Great video, but something bugs me. Not just that you guys didn't think about it, but that I didn't see any comments giving the same idea. What makes you think all the realms have the same time flow? Is it possible that one day in one realm could be a year in another? That could help with Death's journey taking the 100 years that War was imprisoned. If there's something that says "Time in all realms is the same" then I apologize. I'm an outside observer to the Darksiders universe.
Honestly? We are firm believers in Occam's Razor. The idea that the simplest answer is usually the correct one. While it is possible that the various realms function on different timescales. There is no indication of that possibility anywhere in the lore. There isn't anywhere that says it isn't true either, but it would unnecessarily complicate the world building. Also, we try to theorize as little as possible, lol.
Behold the 4th steed mayhem... wait wait mayhem and strife... rampage and fury... death and despair... war and ruin really how did we not figure this out years ago 🤣
We're like 90% certain we address that real quickly in our video on Genesis itself here: ruclips.net/video/k73UaTXa_MM/видео.html In case it's not, short version. It's before everything but the Nephilim dying and War losing his arm.
I've got one question, what is your nickname on Darksiders/GunfireGames discord? cuz those information you presented were definetely spoken there and not all of them were said out of discord
Agree, I think 3 is before 2. In 3 The Destroyer's tower si barely build. In 2 is already build. There's a fact at the end of 3, that conntects with the nearly beginning of 2: Redemption, Strife's pistol.
@@charleslamueve600 since they overlap everything death does before getting strife's gun probably is before 3 but the ending of 2 would have to been well before 3 since humans were still being killed
@@myroncaine Yeah but Strife was in 3 appearing as a human and had both of his guns. So How could Death have one of Strifes guns, before the ending of 3 if Strife still had both of his guns?
I have a question were dose genesis fit because people said it's a prequel to the three-game series but some things in the game can you make it sound like it's not a prequel because somehow in Genesis War already knows how to use that Boomerang Blade and he acts as if he knew what it was and how it worked as well as he done right talk is if he's used it before also if this was before War went to Earth early and started the Apocalypse then how come in Genesis death and fury were already sent out on their own thing because of War has not been accused of starting the apocalypse yet why would Death already be out trying to look for a way to solve his crime so I'm curious
Spoilers!!!!! I actually love how Genesis takes place just after the four have slain their kin at Eden. The references too, eastereggs... the studio paid close attention to the lore material. Case in point, you fight Belial in Genesis but he isn’t killed so that he can go on to face Death in Darksiders 2’s DLC campaign. It also takes place just before the seven seals are constructed and the treaty is finalized. War and Death had just committed the genocide - a reference to the Book of Genesis - due to Lucifer’s corruption.
Crazygamer1995 War doesn’t have Strife’s gun. The description on Mercy is that it is a Replica and not the genuine model. We don’t know what happened to Strife after The Assault on Haven but it’s entirely possible that, because we know Ulthane survives, Strife did as well. This would provide him opportunities to traverse the realms and eventually loose Redemption to the Forgelands so that Death could acquire it by the female Maker.
@@FatalFist how do you know Strife survive the Destroyer Attacks and why Ulthane make a replica of Mercy if he will not use it and Strife Mercy can get damage though the fight
Crazygamer1995 it’s literally stated that Mercy in Darksiders 1 is just a replica. Replica is synonymous with copy. Death gets Redemption however, so something happens to Strife allowing him or his pistol Redemption to reach the Forgelands.
If we recall correctly, it was called the Sacrament Bomb, it generated an enormous explosion, but the bomb would only hurt demons. So when War sets it off in the middle of the Angel's Capital City it detonates harmlessly.
I'm kinda confused, I get that Darksiders 2 and 3 were roughly at the same time but won't the Ending of Darksiders 2 come after 3 since in both games most of humanity was gone but Death revied humanity at the end of Darksiders 2 right? Can anyone explain it to me, please?
There was no indication that Humanity was going to be revived as soon as Death sacrificed himself. Humanity will be revived, which was just don't know when, or where.
@@M0piece Actually there is another thing I forgot to add and that is the fact that death has one of Strifes pistols in Darksiders 2. wouldn't that also indicate that 3 came a bit before 2?
Fury game finished before the end of 2, humanity is probably going to the location Fury took the remaining survivors. She would have set up a base by then.
@@eliasseymour Well, like they said the prologue of Darksiders 3 makes it clear Death is already on his mission. But since Death has Redemption, the majority of Darksiders 2 must take place after 3.
Death kill Samael!? LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! No Death successfully gives Samael a cheek based paper cut and then went back to the present where Samael is locked up holding the devil key. That being said. At full power (meaning not being neutered by the counsel) we believe hey would be on much more even ground.
No. Sameal is still at the Black Throne but we know he becomes improsoned by The Destroyer on Earth and his separated into four pieces each going to a Chosen. At some point Sameal leaves the Black Throne.
For the how would he know? Theoretically War was able to successfully interpret his earlier vision of the future, but that's mild conjecture. As to why Uriel attacked the Watcher, that one is actually really simple, she's an incredibly honorable warrior, the Watcher was anathema to everything she stood for, so when the watcher strikes down War, someone who should be the Watcher's ally. Uriel leapt to his aid for the sake of honor and justice. Personally we doubt she was aiming for the seal so much as trying to kill the Watcher, but we could be wrong there.

This panel will coincide with the E3 2019 unveil of a brand new Darksiders game that takes the franchise in a fresh direction. This is a panel discussion about the art and business of creating and maintaining an action adventure franchise rich in-game and corporate lore. every DS game is a new direction mo, as each one is a different genre, doesn't mean spin off
@@recramorcenlemniscate7945 It's a spin off game. It's not the fourth game. THQ Nordic has kinda confirmed it with the title. Just think about it. Darksiders 3 isn't even finished getting all its extra content. It's way too soon for Darksiders 4.
At the end of Darksiders 2 it is said there must always be four horsemen. To me that means that the Horsemen can be killed but that once the seventh seal is broken as it did at the end of Dareksiders that all the Horsemen will be summoned even from death.
Base timeline: Darksiders 1 prologue comes first > Followed by Darksiders 2 & 3 > Ends with the rest of Darksiders 1. (Newest game, Genesis, takes place before the rest of them.)
One thing that you guys didn't notice that also suggests when Death's Door takes place, is Abaddon's appearance. He lost his eye during the Abomination Vault novel, and Death's Door features him with that eyepatch. So Death's Door would've come after The Abomination Vault timeline wise. As for when War loses his arm, Death's Door shows us an interesting small panel when Abaddon inquires if Death would use proving his strength in combat as a reason to kill his 'demon'. Death simply remarks that he's confusing him for War and has a flashback to when War seemingly doesn't have that new arm. Now the flashback for when they got their mounts does confuse things a bit I will admit. Either the arm being there is accidental, or they just drew a gauntlet that could be mistaken for that arm. I'll have to go back and check it out real quick.
Ok so I checked the comic, and it appears War DOES have his new arm after all. In the minor flashback Death has in his conversation with Abaddon, if you look closely, you can see the design of the left arm is the same as the one in the game. As for the flashback to when they got their horses the hand looks about the same size as the other. And while it's hard to tell, I don't think the gauntlet design on the left hand in that panel is the same as his prosthetic. It's smaller and the finger armor isn't as prominent or pointy looking. So War didn't have his new arm when they got their horses, and doesn't appear to have it when the Abomination Vault happens but does have it when Death has that flashback in the comic, I'd say the Abomination Vault novel was before and the comic occurs after that point where War loses his arm. The Abomination Vault occurs before Death's Door if Abaddon having his eyepatch in the comic is anything to go by. Beyond that I can't say much else. Valiant effort though. One thing that'd help big time, is knowing what year on Earth was happening when War had attacked the human soldiers. I think the comic for the first game said they were a human army. Regardless knowing what year Earth was in would've helped tremendously. As we get Earth's year when Death goes there in his own comic, that being during an outbreak of the Black Death. Of which there were actually several throughout history, and they had different names for each outbreak that occurred depending on where it started.
Unfortunately, War's comic doesn't say anything about who that army belonged too. But you can see our issues in trying to figure out whether that was his prosthetic in the death's door comics, lol. Thank you!
Thanks for the video guys Its very complex storyline with alot of plotholes and weak creative writing The devs didnt think that darksiders would be so popular so they didnt focus on the storyline entirely plus the fact that thq went dead in 2012 gave it an extra reason for not having a strong writing in the first place Let me explain: In the begining of ds3 we see war in chains and warning fury from the conspiracy came upon them right? Then Why he didnt mention her after 100 yrs imprisonment or tried to find her? Sooo much plotholes and confusing events They need to work this out Either in a book or a solid game They need a good writing team to solve this if they wanna continue this saga
Actually it makes perfect sense that he wouldn't mention her or look for her. She was on a counsel mission almost 90 years ago by the time he gets to earth. He knows his sister, There is no reason that it would take her 90 years to do her job. Either it was done and she moved on (either to a new council mission or just to chill) or she was dead and there was nothing he could do (to be fair I doubt he would assume either of his brothers or his sister dead because he knows their power and abilities). Besides he was busy getting revenge. :P
If war can come back after being stabbed in the back and Death coming back after sacrificing himself (and the souls of the nephilim) then I'm sure rampage would come back
We're actually doing a let's play of it currently. As far as we can tell It would have been placed after getting the horses but before most of the rest of the stories.
They should make a 5th game (on the ps5 so we get the graphics that the 5th game would deserve) that features the end war. Hell is still on earth, just the destroyer is dead, and heaven still has warriors and the obvious reason is the other 3 horsemen (horsepeople..?) arrive at the end of the 1st game. Samael is still kicking it somewhere aswell What the actual aim of the horsemen (horsepeople) during the end war is still confusing mystery to me though...they work for the balance but during the end war, theres no need for balance so i dont know what their role would be..maybe they work for the 3rd kingdom? Or just take a side all of their own Edit: plus the fact War broke the 7th seal to summon the rest so the end war would actually start
Absalom was made with bloodrage, he just wanted to conquer and assimilate. That is why the Grand Abominations came to be, the Nephilim slaughtered the progenitors of their weapons and then sealed their very souls within these weapons to become sentient. With these weapons, the Nephilim became even more dangerous and tried to take Eden while man was just being made. The Four Hoursement and Angels stood united to stop the Nephilim.
Why would someone dilsike this? The lore alone takes much effort and dedication. I raise my middle finger to those who disliked this!
Thank you, that is greatly appreciated. :)
Fury ended her story first. After all strife had his guns at the end of the game and death has strife gun soo...
2:58
his arm's prosthetic? i thought it was simply a gaunlet or something
"Death had already peaced out" XD I love it! He heard the news about War, went "Bullsh**. Imma fix this," then up and left without telling anyone anything. (though it does seem a little weird that it took ten years. Is Death just so out of touch with Creation at large that it took that long to get the news?)
I would argue that the novel takes place before War loses his arm because when Death comes back after the 500 years, that's the first time anyone has seen him with Dust. So he gave the amulet to the Crowfather during that time, and it makes the most sense to me that Death would have done that immediately (or at least soon) after Eden. (also what Javier Zaragoza said about Chaoseater)
I concur about the pacing of games 2 & 3.
Thanks for the mention
Those are all good points, thanks!
jelenneth neither Death or Strife trusted the Council. We know this as Strife questions their words with War in Genesis.
OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! You made the video !! And my name appears on the request
Thank you! Glad you liked it and that we got your name right (or close to it)
Took me probably 3 times to watch and finally get how all games connect accordingly. Hopefully we get the 4th where we get to see what was Strife doing on Earth and the 5th would most likely be all 4 and playing by switching between them
Discord should be the name of strife's steed.
Rampage and ruin, discord and despair. I like it
DIscord or we riot! Get it done THQ Nordic!
Cool ,though i think it's called Mayhem unfortunately
@@TamerKElSayed Works well enough just doesn't really roll off the tongue.
I think he has his regular arm during the Abomination Vault. I'm rereading it and there's a part where War wonders how Death would fair against Chaoseater being stabbed through his chest
It's a great video though. Thanks guys
Awesome. Glad I helped. Cant wait for your next video guys
I’m so happy all of that made sense to me.
cant wait till this gets updated with genesis
Haven’t been here in a while! Good to see you guys still going at it! Would still love to see an explanation on the 3 horsemen modes that they have! Death=Reaper, War=Chaos And ect. I know we don’t have strife yet but it’d still be awesome on those 3 for now
Love the DARKSIDERS series 🖤
Masterpiece 🖤
I absolutely love Lore and you guys deliver in high quantities!!!!
I personally think the ending of DS2 is like this:
Death revives the souls, crowfather is the storyteller, all the loading screens after u quit the game are said from the future as a story of the past.
"Isac was curious" was awesome lmao
Thanks for sharing and I was wonder how everything was put together. It really helps a lot of my question being answered also. Keep doing what doing. Thanks again
Great Video! I love being able to see especially the books in order, and the placement of lilith etc
I'm pretty sure that in Darksiders 2 they claim that humanity has fallen already, but in Darksiders 3 there are still clearly numerous humans alive in hiding. Because of this I'm pretty sure that Darksiders 2 takes place after Darksiders 3. I can imagine that it took Death a while before the opening scene of Darksiders 2 to get to the crowfather. So Probably Death Leaves -> Darksiders 2 Happens -> Last of men are slain or leave to where fury is -> Darksiders 2 happens
Not to mention that The Destroyer had already shown himself during Darksiders 2, whereas he only came to be the Destroyer during the events of Darksider 3
Hapmaplapflap gap Death’s arrival on Earth and fighting Belial could also suggest that the Hunter (human) Death meets has given up the location of Haven to Belial who informed the rest.
Thorough and awesome! Thank you!
So... essentially... the only thing that makes sense timeline wise is :
Darksiders 3 prologue, Darksiders 1 prologue, war imprisoned, death goes on a journey and searches for answers and takes years tracking down the crow father ( traveling the universe without permission or help may take time) , Darksiders 3 happens, during which death find the crow father defeats him, gets knocked out and sent through a portal that causes a time lapse, Darksiders 3 ends, death wakes up on the makers world, the rest of the events of Darksiders 2 happen, death dies in the well of souls and either stays dead for many years or the time in the tree of life also has different rules, the rest Darksiders 1 happens, seals break. 4 horsemen resurrect and reunite at full power. The end
That makes a lot of sense. I like that theory
Seeing out the whole timeline just reminds me of how f-cking cool these games are!
We didn't have this confirmation at the time of the writing of this video hence us having DS2 and DS3 mixed up. :)
Thanks for the reply guys. I guess the way ds2 ended made it sound like death died right as war broke the seal officially. With genesis in the works I cannot wait for ds4. Strifes personality is hysterical
@@brandonwoodhouse358 Looks like it's gonna be awesome!
Thank you for clearing this up.
E3 is releasing a new Darksiders game and I can't wait
Keep up your videos dudes
My head canon is that Darksiders 2 started before 3, but also finished after it, since the humans there are explicitly called survivors, but I may be wrong
So... Death's journey occurs just before War's on Earth, but at the same time as Fury's, but then the big D dies sacrificing himself and the Nephlem's souls to resurrect humanity, and is brought back by the end of War's story?
Huh. They love interweaving the Horsemen's journeys in a damn near convoluted way, don't they?
Well almost. As far as we can tell it's not "just before" War's time on earth it should be approximately 90ish years prior.
Yuuuup!
Death is the strongest and I wished we got a flash back in the game that shows that lol but awesome video
By the time Fury returns to the council and defeats Envy, and tosses the talisman at the Council, is War still in chains?
He's not physically in the room. But unless it took Fury about 90 years to track all the sins down (unlikely given the humans in Ulthane's care mostly seeming to be middle aged the whole time) he was still locked up by the Council.
Wouldn’t her tossing the talisman essentially destroy the rock statues of the Council? Like aren’t the council supposed to be more than just stone faces? Once she tossed it at them one if not all should’ve been destroyed
Yes, he was.
Tyler Todd Fury states upon returning to Haven that the Council were not finished with her.
Thank you
I will say that Ds2 starts a bit before Ds3, but Ds2 finishes a bit later than Ds3 just from the simple fact that during Ds3, the Destroyers tower is in the middle of construction whereas during Ds2, when you visit Earth, the tower is completed.
Next time, Do The Lord of Hollow
Can't wait for a darksiders 4 were you can play as strife
The new darksiders game reference war losing his arm
This is awesome
I think that Gunfire planed Darksiders 4 among with 3. And it will take place between 3 and 2.
At least is what the other two makers in Haven makes me think.
My theory:
They'll probably have an adventure with Strife and Ulthane.
For 2 I always did theorise that some time did pass after death become unconscious and got teleported into the makers world and/or after he was pulled into the tree and woke up in the realm of the dead
Plus when both death and the nephalim essentially died to bring back humanity, the remaining years would’ve flown by instsntly. Due to the seals reviving all the horsemen that could’ve/would’ve died
I don’t really have any prove with most of these though, I don’t know how most ways of teleportation works in that universe and just based it off of death not really keeping track of down every time he’s knocked out, he doesn’t necessarily have to fairly,
can you explain the ending of darksiders 3, and how the watcher was able to do and become what she is
The watcher was always Envy.
Can u do that Kratos vs horsemen I requested yesterday plz
no people think they line up because of the archon's scrying pool visions
now how will darksiders genesis fit into this
We don't know at the moment, but we know that it will before DS1... that's about it atm. :P
A prequel like the comics
It takes place before everything. The Four had just slain their kin at Eden and the Council gives them a job to investigate Lucifer. Even the seals have not constructed.
Death lives after being stabbed by chaoseater

Anything specifically from killer instinct you want to see?
@@TrueMastersandMorons Well character by character. Start off with the siblings: Jago & Orchid.
what bothers me is that if its happening at he same time how is death reviving humanity if fury is already saving them?
As far as we are aware Jon is correct. And yes Genisis is supposed to be a prequel to even the comics that came out with DS1. :)
We don’t know yet exactly how that works, we don’t even know where Fury went. She could have taken them to the plains where we first see Fury with Rampage and then with Death resurrecting humanity, he became aware of where Fury’s group had migrated and brought humanity back there. The seventh seal is broken and Fury, Strife, and Death arrive to Earth.
maybe one day we will get a full time line but its not today

After.
Agree, I think 3 is before 2.
In 3 The Destroyer's tower si barely build. In 2 is already build.
There's a fact at the end of 3, that conntects with the nearly beginning of 2: Redemption, Strife's pistol.

I have a question were dose genesis fit because people said it's a prequel to the three-game series but some things in the game can you make it sound like it's not a prequel because somehow in Genesis War already knows how to use that Boomerang Blade and he acts as if he knew what it was and how it worked as well as he done right talk is if he's used it before also if this was before War went to Earth early and started the Apocalypse then how come in Genesis death and fury were already sent out on their own thing because of War has not been accused of starting the apocalypse yet why would Death already be out trying to look for a way to solve his crime so I'm curious
finally i understood

I actually love how Genesis takes place just after the four have slain their kin at Eden. The references too, eastereggs... the studio paid close attention to the lore material. Case in point, you fight Belial in Genesis but he isn’t killed so that he can go on to face Death in Darksiders 2’s DLC campaign.
It also takes place just before the seven seals are constructed and the treaty is finalized. War and Death had just committed the genocide - a reference to the Book of Genesis - due to Lucifer’s corruption.
Darksiders lore \o/
Now input Darksiders Genesis!!!!! Please please please!!!
This vid needs updating.
How come war didn’t keep that sword that broke the seal
I have big question how War and Death have Strife guns?
Death gets Redemption however, so something happens to Strife allowing him or his pistol Redemption to reach the Forgelands.
what was that weapon of mass destruction i want to know
If we recall correctly, it was called the Sacrament Bomb, it generated an enormous explosion, but the bomb would only hurt demons. So when War sets it off in the middle of the Angel's Capital City it detonates harmlessly.
Spoilers:
The seven seals are explained at the end of genesis that:
3 = heaven
3 = hell
1 = Charred council
How did abadon get the hell seals?
Elijah Watson but would that confirm that 3 ended before 2?
@@eliasseymour Well, like they said the prologue of Darksiders 3 makes it clear Death is already on his mission. But since Death has Redemption, the majority of Darksiders 2 must take place after 3.
In darksiders 1, Samael is there, but in darksiders 2, death kills samael... doesn't he?
Death kill Samael!? LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! No Death successfully gives Samael a cheek based paper cut and then went back to the present where Samael is locked up holding the devil key.
That being said. At full power (meaning not being neutered by the counsel) we believe hey would be on much more even ground.
No. Sameal is still at the Black Throne but we know he becomes improsoned by The Destroyer on Earth and his separated into four pieces each going to a Chosen. At some point Sameal leaves the Black Throne.
mayhem for strife
I still do not get , how could War knew that the angel will break the seal from the watcher's hand? Why did she attacked the watcher ?
For the how would he know? Theoretically War was able to successfully interpret his earlier vision of the future, but that's mild conjecture. As to why Uriel attacked the Watcher, that one is actually really simple, she's an incredibly honorable warrior, the Watcher was anathema to everything she stood for, so when the watcher strikes down War, someone who should be the Watcher's ally. Uriel leapt to his aid for the sake of honor and justice. Personally we doubt she was aiming for the seal so much as trying to kill the Watcher, but we could be wrong there.
@@TrueMastersandMorons But she is the one who killed War , not the watcher .....so it has no logic . Both the watcher and Uriel wanted War dead.
@@practicaltheory6604 Nex Sacramentum. Play Darksiders 1 again. It has logic.
please make a lore video on the valkyrur from valkyria chronicles
did you guys hear the ds4 news for e3
The news was for a spin off game, not DS4.
@@M0piece A discussion about the inception of the Darksiders universe and where it’s headed next.
Why are you not making darksiders videos guys make a War video ok
Because we wall be doing it once Genesis comes out. :)
At the end of Darksiders 2 it is said there must always be four horsemen. To me that means that the Horsemen can be killed but that once the seventh seal is broken as it did at the end of Dareksiders that all the Horsemen will be summoned even from death.
Yup that's exactly what it does mean. :)
Played 1, then 2 got so fucking lost. So 1 comes after 2-3? Unlike DMC no time line
Base timeline: Darksiders 1 prologue comes first > Followed by Darksiders 2 & 3 > Ends with the rest of Darksiders 1. (Newest game, Genesis, takes place before the rest of them.)
darksidres an god of war could change the game
Thank you!
No problemo.
And in Genesis, Abaddon has both of his eyes.
Thanks for the video guys
Its very complex storyline with alot of plotholes and weak creative writing
The devs didnt think that darksiders would be so popular so they didnt focus on the storyline entirely plus the fact that thq went dead in 2012 gave it an extra reason for not having a strong writing in the first place
Let me explain:
In the begining of ds3 we see war in chains and warning fury from the conspiracy came upon them right?
Then
Why he didnt mention her after 100 yrs imprisonment or tried to find her?
Sooo much plotholes and confusing events
They need to work this out
Either in a book or a solid game
They need a good writing team to solve this if they wanna continue this saga
Actually it makes perfect sense that he wouldn't mention her or look for her. She was on a counsel mission almost 90 years ago by the time he gets to earth. He knows his sister, There is no reason that it would take her 90 years to do her job. Either it was done and she moved on (either to a new council mission or just to chill) or she was dead and there was nothing he could do (to be fair I doubt he would assume either of his brothers or his sister dead because he knows their power and abilities). Besides he was busy getting revenge. :P
Hopefully rampage gets resurrected as well
Dev's have confirmed their horses will come with, so yay!
If war can come back after being stabbed in the back and Death coming back after sacrificing himself (and the souls of the nephilim) then I'm sure rampage would come back
Darksiders genesis please? It’s another prequel.
We're actually doing a let's play of it currently. As far as we can tell It would have been placed after getting the horses but before most of the rest of the stories.
True Masters and Morons exactly. Don’t forget to talk about strife afterwards please. 😉
This is confusing as fuck. Like, really, really confusing.
Samael is still kicking it somewhere aswell
What the actual aim of the horsemen (horsepeople) during the end war is still confusing mystery to me though...they work for the balance but during the end war, theres no need for balance so i dont know what their role would be..maybe they work for the 3rd kingdom? Or just take a side all of their own
Edit: plus the fact War broke the 7th seal to summon the rest so the end war would actually start
ts all messed up
😷😷😷😷😷
It's kind of messed up because the Four Horseman commit Genocide on there on race instead of trying to balance it out.
Just as messed up is the fact that the Council considered that genocide the best way to balance everything out.
@@TrueMastersandMorons Agreed!!!
And its more messed up that the council had also betrayed the horsemen
@@BanishedSilentShadow3318 Yep. It's a little bit of Karma.
