Good question. Let us know don once you get more time with this unit which you like more or what features of each you give a pro and con to. Wouldn't make a bad video idea
The "Best" display I've seen so far is of that Pretty Wife of yours. I keep telling you "You are a luckiest man" (I'll bet she tells you the same)...... I am like you, I don't like any wires showing at all. The 3.5 Aux connection, I would have drilled a hole in the plastic of Center Console and sent the cable thru there, not having it lay across the front, but that is me..... I like the size of these screens vs. the large android screens you have installed previously. I think the Aussie's have this down pat. Great job as always. Keep them coming Don.
Thanks for reviewing all these DonsLife! Guy even takes the time to take out the Aucar and reinstall the factory unit just to show installing this upgrade from scratch. Of course this now makes decisions harder on me. I like the integration to the dash of the Aucar better, retaining the factory vents, but at first glance it seems the Z has a much better UI. Oh what to do?!
That's where I'm stuck. I like what Aucar did by keeping the factory design look. I feel like the Z left the design element out of it and went basic black. BUT, i plan on installing aftermarket amps/speakers and Aucar has no RCA outputs....what to do?

I’m planning to order mine next week, thank you for the review. I originally plan to change for my truck without any success because they told me nothing for the 2021 gmc .
When in the "factory screen mode" is there a way to move the volume/radio control bar to the left side? I assume it is defaulted to the right side since Australia is right side drive, but for North American users having those controls on the right seems like a decent arm stretch while driving. The option to be on the left would be helpful.
We offer install support for DIY. Just be aware of the time zone differences. We have had a few north America customers not confident in DIY have a car audio shop install. We can provide support with the shop also during installation.
I'll be interested in seeing your thoughts on both this and the aucar system. I got the aucar system and used just android auto one week and as much of the native system as i could using wifi which seems to be the better way to go with it so far if you dont plan on using a sim card. It seems like the software side of things on this z-innovations system may be better, but like having the bigger screen in my truck so far and its $500 cheaper. Can't wait to see what your thoughts are in a comparison video!
I keep hearing this non refresh vs refresh about silverados. I just picked up (1 day and change ago) a 2022 LTD RST Z71 (Can they put any MORE acronyms in the name? Geez!) and I have no idea if it is 'refreshed' vs 'not refreshed' I just really liked it and was in the market for a truck and the price was right so now it's mine, and as I am looking at all these videos regarding things that can be done with it this comes up in like every single one of them.
Congrats on the new truck. IT can be confusing since there are two main aspects of the mid-cycle refresh that started in 2022 (but not all trim levels). The interior was refreshed to a larger widescreen and the front end/grill/headlights were updated as well. Some brand new lower trim models will have the original interior from 2019 but the new 'refreshed' front end. Also the HD model trucks have some changes. To keep it simple, try to figure out if your front end looks like a 2019/2020/2021. If it does, it is a non-refresh model and I bet your infotainment screen is a 7" or 8" diagonal (like mine).
@@Donslife Thanks for the reply! It has the 8 inch screen and the bowtie grille instead of the "CHEVROLET" Grille. SO I guess it is pre-refresh. Fine by me, I like the bowtie better.
Hey Don, first of all I like to say I love your videos. I’m the owner of an AT4 and I love all your upgrades. My question is if you had to choose one, which would you choose ?
I currently have WiFi through Chevy/OnStar, will I still be able to keep that service if I were to do this swap out? I’m assuming the antenna is external of the factory screen/hardware and changing the screen wouldn’t interfere with that WiFi service? Thanks in advance
Yes you can continue to use onstar wifi. This is just an addon screen with more functions. Everything you had before remains. You just access some things differently
So I’m guessing you tossed the Aucar unit. This one looks much better than the 15.6 you had. I just did an entire carbon fiber dash upgrade so if I do this I need to figure out how to incorporate that. All in all great video!!
I am doing reviews to help people make decisions that work for them. Nothing has been tossed. Maybe another option will come along while I own this truck and I will review it too. 🤷🏻♂️
@@Donslife I like this one much better than than the Aucar one you previously had. The main reason for me is that you don’t need to Bluetooth the screen to the vehicle. I'm glad that somebody asked this question lol.. I did a double take, I was like didn't this guy do the same video for a different setup... The video even shows the OEM setup and not the AUCar setup. I was very confused. Thanks for asking.
By far, what an improvement over the Aucar screen. Can you try showing the trailer camera with navigation side by side? Thats the one thing I wish GM did with their radio.
The Aucar looks almost factory. This looks like someone just stuck a tablet on the dash lol...I'm really leaning towards the 15.6" over this. I might pull the trigger on it tomorrow :)
Great Review! Quick question....do you know if the tablet can be connected to the Truck's WiFi (i.e. the OnStar Connected Services) while also linked to Android Auto or CarPlay via wireless connection just like the factory setup? Basically, where you can connect any devices via wifi in the truck as well as have infotainment services like Spotify, Nav, Pandora etc... oem apps and use AA and carplay (though I know when you use CP and AA your using your phone data plan). Or, is the only way to get the Z-innovations tablet to have an internet connection and also interface with AA and CP is either have an LTE Sim Card (independent data connection) or use AA or CP via USB wired connection to the tablet? Otherwise you're stuck needing to connect to the OEM OnStar app to use CP or AA wirelessly and retain wifi to all other devices. Let us know which is possible....Thanks in advance.
Great video! Thanks for reviewing this! So a couple of questions. 1. Does this auto dim? If so how well does it work? Have you used the AUX for music from a app on this? And if so how does the music sound? 2. I know that we can use Android auto using the factory display on this tablet now is this tablet capable of Android auto? Android auto wireless? 3. Now because this is aux out if you use the tablets google map app and if we want to hear the directions we are limited to entertainment from apps only correct? 4. Have you tried to connect this USB or Bluetooth? 5. Can we enter android developer mode? Thanks!!!
need to add, this MUST have the factory AUX input, which not every model has, this is REALLY important to know. Without the AUX input, this will NOT work correctly. I found this out from Z Innovations!

@ I see. The 15.6 seems a little too big. The 13.1 looks just right. You got a really nice truck. Every little mod changes everything. I have a 2021 2500 duramax and when I make little changes, I always get asked if I got a new truck.
I'm not a fan that wireless Car Play is not automatically connected. It would be nice to have it auto-connected via the screen that replicates the vehicle's factory display instead of having to go to a completely different app for it. I know you mentioned you can have it in the factory screen, but it sounded like only works for the wired version... is that correct? or can the wireless version be setup through the factory-style screen as well (and be auto-connected when you crank the vehicle)? Also, is it possible to make the factory-style screen the default home screen / boot-up screen instead of having to navigate to it every time from the android screen?
CarPlay can be set to automatically connect too, so that’s not an issue (wired or wireless). As for the first screen when turning the truck on, I know it will come on with the factory screen if that’s where you left it last. I will need to do more testing to see if Android apps do the same.
Factory Navigation won’t change. Still works. If you want the new screen’s apps to have access to the factory antenna, you will need the adapter set up
$1589 Including the discount In my opinion, it is extremely expensive for something that we do not know enough about. Besides Donslife, very few specs are known about this. At this price point, why no Bluetooth to the factory system? It's definitely nice looking.
It has Bluetooth connectivity to the factory system if you want to connect that way. Aux connectivity has been something more people wanted in these types of devices. So it does have both
@davidkennedy5836 Bluetooth to the factory system is unstable and has a audio delay. This is why we have gone the AUX route. It also allows your factory system run better. As it is not competing with two Bluetooth input sources. We tested this unit in Australia for over a year before we released to market.
The limitation is that if you want to use the onboard google map app with the nice full screen you must use audio streaming services loaded on the tablet.
I cover this in the video about 3/4 of the way through during the driving scenes. I think it is a little less flow, but I didn’t test the original or use a measuring device to confirm.
Is there a way to set CarPlay to automatically start, or is the only option to click on the app? If I have to click on the app, that reminds me of the auto start/stop button. Not a huge deal, but I’d rather not have to tap the app in order for it to start.
With the 2 discount codes don has it comes to under $1500 USD vs Vertical screen $1300 USD. We worked for 2 years on this product and used the best components we could find. The development time and cost have been factored into the price. Plus our manufacturing cost is a lot higher than the other screen on the market.
You need these (3) parts to split the Shark Fin's GPS antenna signal and connect it to this screen. Here are some links USA: Extension Cable (10ft): amzn.to/3ZrS7sG *** 3ft version is long enough too *** Male to Female Splitter (Y cable): amzn.to/3Tuk4w8 Coaxial Pigtail Cable adapter: amzn.to/3zWy37i CANADA: Extension Cable (10ft): amzn.to/3B46Wrj *** 3ft version is long enough too *** Male to Female Splitter (Y cable): amzn.to/3B2vdhf Coaxial Pigtail Cable adapter: amzn.to/4eV5NBr
At this stage no but the bonus with our system is you can remove the ac vents and simply hydrodip or wrap our shell without worrying about damaging the screen or any electrical components.
Hey Don! A few questions, does the factory navigation still work? Also, is there a reason you tie into the antenna of the truck, as opposed to using the supplied GPS antenna? How are you getting Internet for the tablet?
Hi Casey; Factory Navigation works 100% as it did before - no change I tie into the Shark Fin (factory) because it is a cleaner install in my opinion and it works better 'signal-wise' since it is located on the cab exterior. I am using my phone as a hotspot for internet at the moment.
@@caseysathan the foam tape will come with yours (grey). I bought mine locally since mine were sent directly from the factory and was not in the box. Z Innovations gave me a heads up and confirmed the retail units will have it included.
Seems a little… laggy. For the outstanding price of a Samsung fold, I’d assume it was speedy and didn’t look as terrible as it does with the shrunken logos. The main screen as well looks a bit 2000s… 😬
I was hoping it just plugged into factory wires instead tearing apart the dash. Did i hear correctly it won't us the factory xm radio and fm radio system? Why not a newer androud version? And will it get android updates?
@@Donslife are they gonna offer os upgrades? This is the same system Idoing is using for Subaru. The way it's set up and wiring is identical. I had the idoing unit in my 18 STI and it was 100x better than factory naval radio. Does it have subwoofer out rcas? Does it start up to the factory radio looking setup? Hope they get the gps antenna adapter with the radio soon. I used the aftermarket GPS antenna on the idoing and I just stuck it inside the dash and it worked great but like to use as much factory as possible.
The only thing I can answer out of these questions is, yes it has subwoofer out and RCAs. Anything playing natively on the screen will allow you to send the signals out of these RCAs
Unfortunately production cost are a lot higher then the vertical screen on the market. This screen upgrade was designed and developed over 2 years with multiple prototypes, 3D scanning, software testing/ canbus coding and cad drawing that have been factored into the price. The other screens on the market was a direct copy of the factory shell with a larger screen.

I am long term testing 3 screens currently. 15.6, 13.1 and 12.3
@ I see. The 15.6 seems a little too big. The 13.1 looks just right. You got a really nice truck. Every little mod changes everything. I have a 2021 2500 duramax and when I make little changes, I always get asked if I got a new truck.
The 13.1 is really nice
@@Donslife when you get tired of testing one of them out, I’ll test it out for you lol. Keep them videos coming…
Update : the last couple starts, the factory interface loaded up despite leaving it on the Android dashboard when shutting it off
Do I need to get gps adapter if I still want to use the factory gps ?
Factory Navigation won’t change. Still works. If you want the new screen’s apps to have access to the factory antenna, you will need the adapter set up
Which screen do you like best. This one or the 15.6 from Aucar
So it does have both
@@Donslife Thanks!!! Now that makes sense! Much appreciated.
@davidkennedy5836 Bluetooth to the factory system is unstable and has a audio delay. This is why we have gone the AUX route. It also allows your factory system run better. As it is not competing with two Bluetooth input sources. We tested this unit in Australia for over a year before we released to market.
@@Zinnovationsoz The APK Sound Assistant will fix the delay.
The limitation is that if you want to use the onboard google map app with the nice full screen you must use audio streaming services loaded on the tablet.
Most impressive thing about this whole video is that your interior panel retaining tabs are still intact and functional 😂 how many times?!?!
But I do get new cuts and scrapes on my hands every time 😂
I thought you installed the Acura Tesla system . Why did you switch?
I am reviewing them all
@@Donslife 👍
I’m not sure why they wouldn’t include the shark fin adapter and delete the gps aerial
We will be manufacturing a adapter shortly
I like the Tesla one better I used to have one like this in my 2014 Silverado years ago
Good, then this video was likely helped you with making that determination
Wao i like this
Do we know what the minimum operating temperature of this is?
We often see temps at -20 F? Thanks.
Minimum operating temperature is -20C max operating 70C
Standby Minimum temperature -30C, max 80C
This is in cabin temperatures
@@Zinnovationsoz Thank you!!
Would be nice if you could rotate the screen horizontal to vertical.
Was something we looked at during testing. The issue was it generated a weak point in the screen pivot.
I'd like to see if you can play movies from Apple on it
Did you forget to explain how to set up if we don’t have aux or did I miss it?
Mine didn’t come with one to show/demonstrate, but it is a small box with a cable that plugs into your USB instead.
Is the air output of the relocated vents any different?
I cover this in the video about 3/4 of the way through during the driving scenes. I think it is a little less flow, but I didn’t test the original or use a measuring device to confirm.
Sorry question 6. Does this have Android Play store? Thanks!!
Yes, the Google Play Store (Android)
@@Donslife Thanks!!
Do know if they will be come out with a system for the 2023-2024 Silverado's? They current radios these trucks have are terrible.
Is there a way to set CarPlay to automatically start, or is the only option to click on the app?
If I have to click on the app, that reminds me of the auto start/stop button. Not a huge deal, but I’d rather not have to tap the app in order for it to start.
Yes there is a setting in the App for auto connect.
@@Zinnovationsozgood deal. Thank you!
Love this one more then the tesla style one but that price...😮
With the 2 discount codes don has it comes to under $1500 USD vs Vertical screen $1300 USD. We worked for 2 years on this product and used the best components we could find. The development time and cost have been factored into the price. Plus our manufacturing cost is a lot higher than the other screen on the market.
@@Zinnovationsoz , Any thoughts on bringing some of the truck's original trim design into the plain black trim piece currently provided?
@@Zinnovationsoz You did the right thing not sacrificing quality for price. After all, these are 70+ thousand dollar trucks
Is Sirius XM playing through the stock XM antenna or is it streaming?
Stock, but you can do both ways. Stock is easier if you have it activated already
@@Donslife in order to use the stock antenna, do I have to buy that adapter you were talking about?
You need these (3) parts to split the Shark Fin's GPS antenna signal and connect it to this screen. Here are some links
USA:
Extension Cable (10ft): amzn.to/3ZrS7sG
*** 3ft version is long enough too ***
Male to Female Splitter (Y cable): amzn.to/3Tuk4w8
Coaxial Pigtail Cable adapter: amzn.to/3zWy37i
CANADA:

@Zinnovationsoz Any chance you will make a trim/housing option to match the factory grey of the AT4?
At this stage no but the bonus with our system is you can remove the ac vents and simply hydrodip or wrap our shell without worrying about damaging the screen or any electrical components.
Does this show car info like tpms etc??
It will show the TPMS info for the GM /Chev trailer app but the factory system shows my Truck’s tpms in the gage cluster still
Preference aucar or z innovations
My aucar just arrived and now I'm having buyers remorse.
Im kinda curious about this. I am happy with the Aucar
Hey Don! A few questions, does the factory navigation still work? Also, is there a reason you tie into the antenna of the truck, as opposed to using the supplied GPS antenna?
How are you getting Internet for the tablet?
Hi Casey;
Factory Navigation works 100% as it did before - no change
I tie into the Shark Fin (factory) because it is a cleaner install in my opinion and it works better 'signal-wise' since it is located on the cab exterior.
I am using my phone as a hotspot for internet at the moment.
@@Donslifethanks for the reply. That foam tape, does it come with the set up? Or did you purchase it yourself? If so where did you get it ?
@@caseysathan the foam tape will come with yours (grey). I bought mine locally since mine were sent directly from the factory and was not in the box. Z Innovations gave me a heads up and confirmed the retail units will have it included.
Seems a little… laggy. For the outstanding price of a Samsung fold, I’d assume it was speedy and didn’t look as terrible as it does with the shrunken logos. The main screen as well looks a bit 2000s… 😬
Working on the follow up video now. I don’t find it laggy at all
Don what is the price of this unit compared to the Aucar
Depends on your country of purchase, but approximately $500 USD
Needs a volume button
A physical volume knob would seal the deal for me as well
Not gunna lie this one didn’t have me itching to buy it like the 15.6 inch screen…
I make these videos to help people make informed decisions for themselves
Would be cool if they had f150 one
We only just got F150s in Australia 6 months ago. Something we can look at this Silverado screen has been in development for over 2 years.
I was hoping it just plugged into factory wires instead tearing apart the dash. Did i hear correctly it won't us the factory xm radio and fm radio system? Why not a newer androud version? And will it get android updates?
You heard incorrectly. XM and FM work great. They just won’t pass through to an aftermarket stereo system (at the moment).
Anyone on this fourm using Android Auto? Would like to hear your input. Thanks!
We have tested with andriod and iPhone. The owner has a andriod phone for his personal phone and a iPhone for our business phone.
@@Zinnovationsoz Thanks so smuch!!
What happened to the other big screen you had installed?
Still doing tests when it gets colder out. I can only install one at a time
But why a 2 year old operating system android 15 is out.
As of today 14.0 is the newest for Tablets. 15.0 for phones
@@Donslife I guess I consider it old because I'm on Google's beta so I should be getting Android 16 beta pretty soon
I think they are using 13 for tablets since it has proven stable. Something that newbies to the platform will value
That is significantly less than the Aucar
@2300 bucks?? Ma that is super overpriced!
I see $1700?
Unfortunately production cost are a lot higher then the vertical screen on the market. This screen upgrade was designed and developed over 2 years with multiple prototypes, 3D scanning, software testing/ canbus coding and cad drawing that have been factored into the price. The other screens on the market was a direct copy of the factory shell with a larger screen.
@@keatonjgarrett I see 2300, but still $1700 is crazy price
Should started with price 2300, not to waste my time.
The 15.6 screen was only 1k and imo looked much better….

@Donslife I know you do nothing wrong with that .. i was just saying that because sometimes you keep what you review on the truck
@donslife on you opinion whats better aurocar or this one ?
I’m curious as well. I am wanting to do one or the other
