I just got my steering wheel for my ZR2 yesterday and I'm looking forward to my install this weekend. I had to watch the video again and I realized the confusion with GMC and Chevy steering wheels. Z has the Chevy wheel on their site with red stripe and red stitching. When I ordered I mentioned I have a 2022 Chevy ZR2 with Paddle Shifter. I opened the box yesterday and I don't remember if I had the red stripe and stitching and I'll have to take another look. I actually prefer not having the red stripe and stitching. I don't think it matches our yellow stitching we have for the interior. Thanks for the great videos!
I just wanted to add. Z Innovation is top notch when it comes to communicating with them by email. They're very quick to respond from the other side of the pond. I was told their website has the preproduction model with the red stripe and stitching.
Don, once again you did it to me. I thought I was done with mods on my 2021 AT4 but lo and behold, you show me something else for me to do. I did promise Mrs DIY GUY that I was done, now I have to sneak this one in. No discount code for this one?
@@Donslife Thank you so much for the discount code; it will lighten the blow with Mrs. DIYGUY. Your installation video, as usual, is better than any "factory" install video out there-much more informative. I'm waiting for the GMC wheel to be back in stock.
Hello Don, I love that steering wheel. I found having your helper use their arms and knees to steady the wheel sometimes helps but your truck did not give you as good of a fight and the C8. As always thanks for the video.
You have a great way of communicating with people watching. Congrats on the channel. I also appreciate that your mods are done with a factory look in mind, and most are easily reversable. It will pay off with resale or trade in value.
don, i have a 2021 sierra denali and tune in to every video you release! thanks for your content, it’s super informative. i might end up with everything z innovations has to offer after watching your videos 😁
This is awesome! Great video and install. Love your detailed insight and thoughts. My GMC Sierra AT4 wheel has some delamination...and will def look into replacing it with this one. I do love the full 360-deg radius heated steering wheel on the stock wheel. My new Mazda also only heats at 10 and 2. To me, kinda bothers me. However, in Oklahoma, I only use the heated steering wheel for maybe 3-4 months. So, for around $525 USD...worth the swap out. Esp, with the bottom of the wheel being flat. That is HUGE for overweight or large people. Mrs Don's Life needs to be in more videos. 🙂
Nice video Don. I do have to say that the GM vehicle’s steering wheels always lack the girth and comfort of Ford’s, BMW, and Toyota. This looks like an uodate I’d like to do. TY!
Beautiful addition to the Truck, now I wish I hadn't sold my Silverado last month. I'll have to buy another truck, just to keep up with "Don's life"...
off to search this page to see when and where you got the floor board/auto step for the sierra with the light is a great touch!!! how did i miss this install and review!?!?
Very good video, I've actually been wondering how hard it's gonna be to add the switches to control phone, radio to my steering wheel in my 23 gmc sierra
All steering wheels have been dispatched or customers contacted in regards to back orders. We have not had any orders from customers for multiple wheels orders in our system. Please email our website Z innovations with your order number and we will follow up on your order.
Great video and always appreciate the detailed installation and explanation. Huge deal breaker for me if the entire steering wheel is not heated. it also seems like the heating element is concentrated around the grips and why its getting that hot.
Oh man that looks good. Definitely changes the look and feel on these trucks it looks like. Question don, does your at4 have stock power folding mirrors? I was curious to see if boost auto could send you the new Sport power folding/spot light mirrors they just released. I ordered mine cause my 19 TB didn't have any functions and I like your installation vids. Just a thought.😅
It’s an old broken torque wrench. I used it for leverage. In my corvette I used a ratchet with a small pipe for leverage. You just need to loosen the bolt. Then retighten well. Locktite is an option as well. Knowing I am replacing mine with the GMC version, I didn’t apply anything extra.
Factory steering wheels life will depend on the owner’s lifestyle. Tradesman’s wheels normally last less due to oils and contaminants in the driver’s skin.
Actually I have the AUCAR one in right now. I keep switching back and forth for testing. Right now I’m winter testing as well as some updates. I’ll keep trying both out as time goes on
Great looking wheel, but I feel they missed on not heating the carbon areas. I hold the wheel one hand at 12 o'clock or on long drives one hand at 6. Rarely do I hold at the sides. Factory wheel doesn't seem to heat the bottom but definitely heats the top.
Perhaps. After using it for about a week, there is some heat transfer to the carbon areas, but just enough to get it to appropriate room temperature. I’ve found a couple sweet spots for my preferred hand positions.
I have it in now. I like it. This video was recorded almost 3 weeks ago. I have been testing them all back and forth. Working on a new video too about the screens
@@Donslife great! I tried to reach out to ZInnovations about the fix for the GMCs, but it won't let me contact them on social media. It looks like they have a wheel on their site specifically for GMC and one specifically for Silverado. Know anything about that?
@whiteninjazx6r we have 2 different versions on our website. 1 for silverado and 1 for GMC. Some wheels are still in stock with others on back-order with a expected dispatch in approximately 4 weeks. Due to higher then expected sales
Canada Goose in Edmonton, Alberta. I never spend good money on clothing (compared to my wife). But since I haven’t bought a new winter jacket in 10 years, I went all out

I am getting a replacement as soon as stock arrives. Sold out as of today’s date. I sent Z Innovations a note about the link. I reposted it and it takes me to the Silverado one (in stock). The description talks about the GMC one.
@@dieselgreg60 At first I was concerned, but even with that detail, I DO NOT want to go back to the original one. A tech from a shop here in town got in my truck and immediately started complimenting the wheel based on its look and feel.
Cool concept, but they missed the mark not having it heated all the way around. Probably not a huge deal being in Florida, but at over $500, I would expect 360 degrees of heat.

I wish the carbon got hot the early denalis and escalades the wood is what got hot

Why did you use a Torque wrench, check the calibration before next use

Would it be any much harder to swap out if you have paddle shifters on your steering wheel?
Nope. Similar
Do you like the current radio style you using or the android Tesla style better??
I am currently making a video on this subject. They each have their pros and cons. Some of which will mean more to some people than others
Great video Don! Is the wheel real carbon fiber or just hydro dipped plastic?
It is real carbon fiber with a beautiful finish. I’m told GMC versions are being replenished for inventory soon.
crazy how your steering wheel still looks new mean while mine has ate thru to the padding and flakes everytime i drive
Maybe its due to where you live? Sun damage? Heat? 🤷🏻♂️
Factory steering wheels life will depend on the owner’s lifestyle. Tradesman’s wheels normally last less due to oils and contaminants in the driver’s skin.

An hour tops, but it isn’t my first steering wheel. Realistically 30-40 mins. Filming makes the timelines muddy 😂

@joshraines something we can look into. The carbon sections would heat up at a different rate then the leather sections IE a lot hotter.
@@Zinnovationsoz how about an Alcantara or micro suede in place of the carbon?
@@joshraines not advised they deteriorate to quickly due to oils in on the hands. We can special order the same design in full leather.
