seen some comments on 'who is playing rhythm on bass?". In my amateur opinion (I follow the hands when someone plays live, so I noticed too), looks like Hooky pre-recorded a backing track for the rhythm (top E string and some A) so he could focus on the lead/solo bass track, so he's playing the ADG strings at times, so he can flail around onstage when it's just the bass rhythm being played on E and A, he doesn't have to play it. A clear example of what Hooky is playing live are the individual higher notes on A D G that give this song that distinctive, memorable sound, I think called an arpeggio at 0:23 and Hooky stops at 0:38 -an observation by a failed amateur at electric guitar and lover of JD/NO.
He’d probably want something darker but he was into Kraftwerk so he’d love the electronic sound of some of their albums. Lyrically it’s nowhere near his level though
@damianbac i think the thing is, that on the original, hes recorded the backing bass line, which you can hear beating away in the back, then ehs done a melody track, you cant play both, so what to chose, i would rather have the one thats more fun to play! which is the ones hookys playing
I guess Hooky lets the first three notes of the riff play before the whole band comes in. New Order are way to talented for lip-syncing. Besides, that tone of Hooky............ahhhhhhhhh
