  • In this doordash driver video, I talk about if some dashers are being paid more than other drivers for the same offers. This investigative video does a deep dive into how some drivers are getting far less pay on doordash than others. Why is this happening? Are you being affected? This video gives more than 10 examples of base pay discrimination. This is one you're not going to want to miss...

    The main problem I have with the way Doordash passes around the lowball offers letting them sit for hours sometimes before the pay is high enough to be worth taking is it's a huge safety concern. I've been on a few deliveries before late at night and pulled up thinking it sure would be nice if they left a light on so I can see. Then some pissed off dude comes out in his boxers yelling at me "What the hell are you doing on my porch in the middle of the night?" I overheard one girl telling her husband to call the cops because someone was outside when she saw the flash on my camera go off cause I had to snap a picture in the dark. Turns out that the reason they didn't leave the light on is because it was freaking daytime when they placed the order.
    This is why I don't dash after 9pm anymore no matter how busy it is. It's only a matter of time before Doordash gets someone killed because some homeowner thinks the driver is a thief in the middle of the night and comes out shooting. When these people order food at 5pm and it still hasn't arrived at 9pm, they call and get their refund and go to bed. They're not expecting someone to show up in the middle of the night to deliver an order that was placed 5-6 hours earlier. There is absolutely no excuse for Doordash to be putting us in dangerous situations like this.

    This is very similar to what I've been experiencing with getting the same order twice. The other day I got $4.00 for 6 miles. Decline, kept driving towards the restaurant, but no intention of going there. 15 seconds later I get the SAME order (same GPS path and everything) but now it's $3.75. You could argue it's closer but I don't think that was it. Supposedly offering the same order more than twice could be considered harassment in the IC rules, so they of course DROP the amount so it's technically a "different" order. In what world would a driver decline a low order and then decide to accept when the amount even lower than it was before?

    • @HeplMeh
      @HeplMeh 10 месяцев назад +4

      @@seanwelch007 What he fails to account for is, every driver has a UNIQUE modifier for the estimated amount of time it would take to complete the order based on driving tendencies and how well they navigate the drop off points (navigating apartment complexes, ect.)
      These two drivers get the same orders, with the same total mileage back to back, as we can see. What we CAN'T see is, based on the data of all of their previous deliveries, the algorithm expects one driver to be faster than the other, hence they will spend less time active on the job. This is why their pay offer is slightly lower. Again, basepay looks at total miles and time expected for THAT driver.

    I notice the pattern was "Pam gets and declines order, then you get a smaller offer", with a case of :"you get and decline order, and then Pam got a larger offer". In all those cases, Pam saw a larger offer than you. I would be interested to see if there were any times you got a larger offer than Pam. If not, it makes me think the algorithm thinks you will take lower offers than Pam - I'm guessing it's something in your stats or history. I've suspected this for a while.

    Great observations and detective work!! One thing that irritates me is when you accept a shop and deliver for a set amount and arrive at the store to start shopping, you get a message that the customer has added to the order and that the offer has been adjusted to compensate for the extra time. Yet, the pay remains exactly the same for shopping the extra item(s). Seems like they are violating the agreement of the offer. I see the offer as a "mini" contract. They are in violation of contract. They take advantage of the fact you already drove to the store and went inside to start shopping and are likely just to "suck it up" on your dime.

    Im a Dasher in Oregon and there was an outage/ massive system error that screwed me over as well as other drivers ( not sure if in my area or nationwide) on 10/21/2023 at the time of the dinner rush. The app has been acting screwy since. I was wandering on your take , why this could have happened. It was soo bad DoorDash emailed me to “ explain” / apologize. I have the email and screenshots of the error for proof. Support was 0 help during this time and the hoops I had to jump through just to do my scheduled dash took over an hour to do. Thanks and looking forward to your next video.

      Same day in Illinois my app showed my area as very busy (dark red) and dash now was available. I had just finished up with some other responsibilities and it was right around 630 pm CST, dinner rush so I selected dash now to begin earning for the evening. The app offered 2 end times, I selected one and received an error message that there were no slots available, try again later.
      The area still appeared in the app as very busy, dash now still available, tried again, this time the error stated I was scheduled to dash at 6:30 therefore I couldn't dash now. Basically, support had to remove the scheduled dash since I couldn't start it, edit it, or cancel it, and I couldn't dash at all, so I ended up just running another app that night after about 12-15 minutes of effort to get it working.
      Support is little to no help in most situations and the offers aren't good enough to fight 1.5 hours, unpaid, (missing the rush anyway) just to get started.

    The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is a federal law that prohibits employers from paying different wages to men and women who work under similar conditions and whose jobs require the same level of skill, effort, and responsibility. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforces these statutes.
    The Equal Pay Act requires that:
    Men and women in the same workplace be given equal pay for equal work.
    Jobs need not be identical, but they must be substantially equal.
    Job content (not job titles) determines whether jobs are substantially equal.

    One of the best things I've ever heard. You say in any video? Is it a legally need to be forced to change or they won't. Moore driver's knee to recognize that they need to legally be forced to change. And we should advocate for the lead for them to legally be force to change by further paying as better first off. Ask driver's wheel, be advocating for all these apps. To be legally forced to change. I hope you can teach state that in a in hammering down in your videos that they legally need to be forced to change. And that driver should fly out advocate for the law to passed.. They will never change otherwise. For me, personally, I can't stress. You know how powerful and how much more drivers need to hear that and Stop being Afraid of the Law. And I really hope that I hear you say this in more and more videos.

    Doordash algorithm is negotiating with each driver individually to create an order most profitable to doordash and most likely to make it to the customer promptly. Also base pay will go up after a certain amount of declines, but each driver is rated differently and most likely "learned" as to what they are likely to accept.

    I heard somewhere during corporate training (at a brokerage firm) that $8.00 is less attractive then $7.75 because of the .75 (the way the brain processes numbers) kind of goes back to stuff like Walmart and their .97 cent items. It’s not the amount, it’s the way our “urgency sensors” in our brains view offers of all kinds. Of course I could be wrong, but I think DD may jerk the numbers around to different levels to different people with number changes. I think of it like a weird version of an MBTI test. Remember: DD has a lot more info on us than we probably know about.

    Doordash has been proven to charge iPhone users more on the customers side as opposed to Android users, any chance of there being something there for the Dashers side as well? Maybe even for Phone Services as well? I know it sounds like tinfoil hat theory but I am curious if that has something to do with it.

I have screen shots too and and I will be making videos soon that I can't wait to hear your feedback on. Thank you for all you do... I'd like to start a movement to unionize delivery drivers. I’ve seen this many times in my area , first it comes in for 21$ then it comes back around for 19.50. Same exact order and mileage I was wondering the logic behind this. I thought it was suppose to go up if it wasn’t chosen.

  • @brennenhalbert6047
    @brennenhalbert6047 10 месяцев назад +1

    They'll send you the same order over again and 25 cents less after less than a minute or a couple tenths of a mile closer. UE does the same thing, they'll lower it by.30 and lower it again the closer you get or give a different cross street and it's the same delivery. I've seen stacked orders go down with an additional trip and mileage. They'll change stacks around offering less with more miles making you thinki it's a totally different offer.

  • @BlacktoothPodcastClips

    I think when someone’s accepts and then unassigns it goes back down to the original pay. Then back up by about 25 cents every decline after it gets declined so many times.

    You mentioned Door Dash stealing tips it’s much easier for them to do so since they started the crappy pay by the hour which in my market is a LAUGHABLE $11 an hour and it’s not even true hourly pay it’s broken down per order so nobody sees what that order is actually paying. It may of paid $14 with the tip but the driver on hourly will make $5.50 if it takes a half hour ( for simple math) I know it doesn’t take that long. And they say we get 100% of tips but how would we even know how much tip was actually on it? But you see what I mean, so what does door dash do with the rest of the money from that I order? I mean $11 an hour when our local McDonald’s pays $15 an hour. Someone at door dash didn’t do their research. But the crazy thing is people in my market are doing this!!
