    Good job! I'm currently building a, what I call, a micro camping boat; Fully enclosed with sunroof and pop up back! It uses a 12v solar system. Steering system and interior, exterior LED lights everywhere. I'm about 80% complete and hope to test it by May 2020. It's been fun building my own design. I appreciate you! You've given me some great ideas for added buoyancy!

      I added an electric motor on my belly-boat/pontoon boat, damn, 20 years ago. What i did, for balance and ease of use, was i put the battery behind me, and i mounted the electric motor in front, between my legs. That way, i had full control of the motor right in ftont of me. And, i could spin on a dime.

    Make a canopy for it with larger solar panels as the top. They make flexible ones. Very light weight.
    With a larger motor you might have to lengthen the frame a bit to add extra flotation.
    I like the way it looks. You have inspired me to try something like this.

This dude is genius and look how small his trolling motor is ..That must be the smallest trolling motor they make and look how that boat moves around in the water and he's a good size guy ..No doubts here ..Dude that is geniusly made and it looks factory 🏭 I wonder how it would go with a bigger trolling motor 🤔 that is awesome 👌..Thanks Man.. • @edgodwin8148
    @edgodwin8148 4 года назад +1

    You could make your canopy/umbrella a hard one and put your solar panel on top to maximize the charging. There are also flexible solar panels you may be able to use.
    I am not sure, but maybe use spray foam in side the PVC to help with buoyancy, you could also cut a pattern of the paddle on the top side of one of your floats about an inch down and hold it down with some heavy duty Velcro. If you slope the front of your floats it would help with resistance but you would also loose some buoyancy maybe. Just things off the top of my head.
    Love the design!!!!!

    • @supergokue1
      @supergokue1  4 года назад

      The solar panel on the sun shade is a great idea. I have found that the foam adds a bunch of extra weight, so I only use it when I have to. I really like the paddle idea, I never thought of that. And you are correct, I really need to put a slope on the pontoons, I am sure it would make a big difference. Thanks for all of the great suggestions.

  • @jeffbeard845
    @jeffbeard845 4 года назад +2

    Improvements should include a couple of side pontoons for stability when climbing on and that could potentially make it stable enough for a 2nd seat. Plus it would add to the buoyancy I would think.
    Oh also adding expanding foam inside the PVC pipe.

    • @supergokue1
      @supergokue1  4 года назад +1

      I had not thought of making it a two seater, great idea. On the expanding foam, I found it added a ton of weight on the craft. I just did my best to make the frame air tight. Thank you for the great ideas and I hope to do an upgrade video real soon on this boat. Thanks for the suggestions.

    pretty goo job, I left a reply for another commenter about the packing Styrofoam comment, told him to look up "displacement". In other words, more area on the water than more flotation "in " the boat. Anyways, here's a tip since you have those foam floatation , glue a small strip of 1/8 - 1/4 plastic about 1 in wide and 12 inches long on the bottom running front to back of that forward float. This will act like a fin and will give you a lot more control over steering no side slide. Take care and don't forget your life vest. )

    The 10W panel will charge the battery slowly over the course of about a week. Smart move not relying upon that cheap charge controller to control power to the motor. I tried one of those and it melted at half of its rated output. You might want to bump up to a 20 or 30 watt panel. Those are pretty cheap and currently 10W is $18, 20W is $25 and 30W is $35. In a perfect world a 10W panel produces slightly less than an amp.

    I’m gonna give this build a shot plus add a few extras however in the pontoon XPS foam cut out you will definitely need more than 1 4’x8 sheet. 6x14 = 84pcs you wont get that from 1 4x8 piece.

    Couldn’t you put in a schrader valve in one of the large connectors along with a pressure gauge to add buoyancy? Say no more than 20-30 psi or spray in foam to as much as you could while assembly is going on. My ex-father-in-law used to own a plain Jon boat he pot 6” outriggers on each side with a schrader valve on it. Seemed to work well. Actually raised the boat up and after loading himself and gear actually sat like it did before the extra weight of the 6” outrigger piping . All is just a thought great design by the way seems pretty stable

    At first I thought the blue things were water bottles (fooled me).
    I agree, add more flotation to the rear (either side of motor).
    I'm trying to figure out where the cooler (what ever size fits) is going to be, ie: between first hoop and chair (flatten center flotation), in front of first hoop or on left and right of chair?
    Of course you could do a redesign. ;-)

      When I built this boat a few years ago, it was not expensive at all. Now, with super high prices on all material I am not sure how much this would cost. Sorry I could not help with your question. Thank you.

    Your steering bar does look a bit awkward. I'm thinking you could setup something like we use down here in Florida on airboats. Lower that bar and connect it to a pivoting handle for control. Best I could suggest is look at an airboat. It should work fine for your trolling motor. Also the speed control needs to be mounted on the other side so that not everything is on the same side. Nice design and great use of PVC pipe!

    You could fill the pipes with spray foam to help with flotation.

    You need to drill and install an air valve and pump air in the PVC tubes to about 18
    to 20 PSI, That will help with buoyancy.

    Português - Ótimo, mas a construção pode ser mais fácil se você colocar pool floaters (que aqui no Brasil chamamos de "macarrão") dentro dos canos e, em vez de usar círculos de isopor, use galões de água cheios de espuma expansiva
    English - Great, but construction can be easier if you put pool floaters (which here in Brazil we call "pasta") inside the pipes and, instead of using styrofoam circles, use gallons of water filled with expansive foam
    Greated job, congratulations

    move the battery and trolling motor to the front ,would even out the weight and easier to use

    What about using spray foam (then hot wire trimming it to shape?

    • @supergokue1
      @supergokue1  3 года назад

      I can look into it to see how well it works, but I have to say I am terrible with a hot wire. I just can't seem to get good at it. Thank you for the great suggestion.

    Very good job I am a kayak fan, thinking of doing such a model. Does it get heavy if I use a paddle?

    • @supergokue1
      @supergokue1  5 лет назад +1

      To be honest I didn't use a paddle with it, just the trolling motor. If I had to guess I would think a kayak would be way easier. Thanks for the question

      I don’t think that would help, nothing beats air for buoyancy!
