Fun fact: Killer Queen probably has a “Requiem” form. After Jotaro *d e s t r o y e d* Kira, Killer Queen had no cracks. But, after being punched by Crazy Diamond, a Stand with similar power as Star Platinum as of Part 4, Killer Queen had cracks. Gold Experience cracked as he became Requiem. Although not a Requiem stand, it probably has a separate form.

Something important to note about it's design is that it seems to be a ver Stylized "Scarab" Beetle, this family of Beetles symbolize "Change" and "Rebirth" in many cultures, especially in the Egipcian Mythos.
Scarabs are also common in JoJo, the Scarf of Lisa Lisa in Part 2 was made with the intestines of Scarab Beetles, the name and design of the insect was original, but the form of the body is still that of a Scarab, with the oval like butt, a Scarab Beetle is also the design for the Tower of Grey Stand in Part 3, a Tarot card that also symbolises "Change" or in this case a Dramatic almost Violent Change. In Part 4 Harvest also seems to be inspired in the Scarab design, Shigechi is the first one to battle Kira, starting that entire arc. Rhinoceros Beetles are also part of the Key Words for obtaining Heaven in Part 6, this are members of a sub family of Scarab Beetles.
In general, this family of Beetles show up consistenly in the series, maintaining some sort of significance in each part with the exception of Phantom Blood. This does not mean however that it literally is the "Requiem Arrow", it could just have a Symbolic importance, like in all other parts.
But I do think it's important to have this symbolism in mind, it really elevates this particular arrow into something trully mystical.

Though this theory is a bit of a stretch, it’s possible the whole ‘stand users being drawn to other stand users’ thing is either fate or the virus within the meteorite trying to make all living people stand users. The children of stand users have been shown to be born stand users, people who awaken their stands later on, or at least people born with the potential to have a stand. Over time, as more stand users are drawn to each other, children would be the likely and eventual result of them meeting each other. Meaning that, gradually, the world would become predominantly full of stand users. I apologise if that sounds wrong or incorrect but it makes sense to me.

personally, I always thought that the arrow was never important I never thought that the virus gave them a stand just awakened it.
Example pearl jam was awakened by hard work and dedication I feel like this is right cause of how stands are designed and how they evolve.
Araki makes the stands then the character around the stand, stands are a manifestation the of soul, fighting spirit, personality.
Stands evolve when a character develops best example is echoes every time Koichi develops so does his stand.
This is why I believe someone who has stand potential could be killed by the arrow if they're not fully developed personality wise
    they will die.
Example Johnny lost his stand temporarily he was not developed as a character to develop a stand, but the corpse forced him to
he could not retain his stand until act 3.
In summery my point is if someone has stand potential which i think is genetic, they have their stand since the day their born but have to awaken it i first thought this when i first watched stardust crusades when polnereff had his stand as long as he could remember

5:54 In fact, there is nothing to suggest that the virus causing a stand is even an actual byproduct of the virus. We know that stand abilities are capable of being awakened by trauma, it could just be that surviving a usually fatal alien virus is the perfect cocktail of mental and physical trauma to awaken a stand ability in one go. All humans have varying levels of stand potential or lack thereof, so there isn't any way to know whether or not a stand awakening from the virus is actually caused by a property of the virus specifically or if it is just a natural bodily response to a trauma specifically like that. I mean, a hamon user or a spin user with no relation to the arrows at all can awaken stands just through mastering their ability.

An interesting thought that I haven't seen brought up just occurred to me.
By definition, a requiem is a song, poem, or service in remembrance of the dead. One thing in common, with the stands we've seen go requiem, is that they have been used to kill intentionally, not just to injure (and not just in self-defense). Furthermore, when stabbed by the arrow earlier in the series, GE had not directly killed anyone (indirectly by returning Luka's shovel blow, though perhaps the stand considers this an automatic defense, or a suicide on Luka's part), so that could explain why nothing happened at that time. It would also connect Silver Chariot, Gold Experience, and King Crimson (who we know could and would have become a requiem stand if pierced), and honestly makes more sense the more I think about it, given the name of the ability.
If we assume CK would not be eligible, perhaps the name could instead imply the need for the affected to have experienced the loss of a close friend or loved one. Or perhaps either criteria could be applied independently.
    Food for thought, I guess.

9:45 Okay, that makes no sense to me, cause Stands aren't physically INSIDE someone's body, so they don't need to be intangible in order to be with their user.
Why is part of the body returning policy them becoming intangible? That's so contrived just to have Diavolo not get the arrow.

    • @SaltExarch
      @SaltExarch 2 года назад +5

The reason why King Crimson became intangible is because Diavolo temporarily became a soul without a body during the swap back. During the Silver Chariot Requiem fight, Stands are shown being used as a representation of their user's soul, especially in the case with Diavolo and Trish, who are both sharing Mista's body. When Bucciarati sacrifices himself to destroy Silver Chariot Requiem and everyone returns to their bodies, it takes them time to return to their proper bodies, and during that time, Bucciarati, Trish, and Mista are all in soul form. In this moment, King Crimson is not being properly manifested as a Stand, as Diavolo temporarily doesn't have a body, and is instead being used as a representation of his soul. Everyone else is shown as their proper soul forms instead of as their Stands, but at this time Trish is unconscious, Bucciarati has *been* dead and his soul is finally passing on with no body to return to, and Mista's Stand was never used to represent his soul because it's a multi-body Stand with its own personality and not a humanoid Stand. Even if the soul transfer was instantaneous, which we see it clearly isn't, Diavolo's actual body was now too far away from the arrow to pick it up, as King Crimson is a short-range stand and we see that he's at least 3-4 meters away from Giorno after he returns to his body.
This is also why Narancia's death ultimately WASN'T pointless. It was cruel, he didn't deserve it, and he didn't make a noble sacrifice like Bucciarati or use his final moments to leave a crucial message like Abbacchio, but him dying and Giorno getting his body back early meant that when SCR's soul swap ability was undone, Giorno was the only one who didn't need to return to his body, and was therefore able to grab the arrow while SCR's effects were being undone.

I don't think discounting the "beetle arrow" as purely visual is really accurate given araki is the type to think through implications very heavily, even a squirrel in a cover page is something he puts a lot of thought into him internally making it unique in form and the only arrow to display that power seems to convey "it's the only one that can produce requiem" a lot more cleanly then saying it's just purely visual.
but besides that, it's just the cleanest explanation since it covers a lot of area's people would call plot holes in the previous parts and keeps things simple and structured since the concept of "worthiness or capable" is a bit more arbitrary and up to debate than a hard rule on which arrow can create requiem.

On the topic of Killer Queen not changing at all, this is easily explained by the fact that it wasn't the stand that was pierced. *KIRA* changed in appearance, with his weird wavy black and white hair. Bites the Dust makes sense as a requiem, because it fulfills all requirements. It fitted Kira's exact need at the moment, it is supremely powerful (control over time), and is another ability. Bites the Dust as just another ability also makes sense. Killer queen already had another ability outside of the bomb, that being Sheer Heart Attack. This ability already feels out of place compared to the actual stand, so it is not so far off that the requiem manifests as simply another ability.

I have a very certain theory about this argument. Every arrow is able to grant a stand requiem, but the beetle arrow is simply the most potent stand arrow for both giving stands and evolving them. Seeing as diavolo got KC from it, and Pucci got Whitesnake from it, as well as it being implied that dio got TW from it due to him having it in SO. I think bites the dust is a requiem stand, but it pierced the user and was only the normal arrow, hence why it didn't change his stand's appearance. But it did give him a requiem type ability due to it being entirely based on his extreme desire to undo his mistake, and the arrow choosing him due to it. In other words, I think the beetle arrow is special, and that it gives the strongest requiems with full appearance changes along with regular strong stands, but requiem itself is something possible by all arrows.

I like to think the arrow is special in at least some way, how it was able to awaken Weather Report without having contact with the body of the user, just with Pucci. We've seen that a similar blood connection awakend stands of the Joestars when Dio was pierced (however it is hard to say whether it was caused by the beetle arrow). We never really saw the same happen with normal arrows. If I remember correctly Keicho Nijimura mentioned that had pierced himself and Okuyasu individually, so there was no special stand awakening bloodline connction there. I've always thought of Bites The Dust as a sort of prototype for what would later become Requiem stands. Araki came up with the idea of Kira being in a dangerous situation, and through fate or luck, he got pierced by the arrow which granted his stand a new ability but still kept it as the same stand.
Then when Part 5 was getting made, Araki might've looked back at what he did with Kira and thought it might be interesting to bring that idea back, a stand arrow granting new abilities to an existing stand. That might explain why it happened later near the end of the part, after the Black Sabbath fight when Gold Experience first got damaged by an arrow.
Araki might've then come up with a new arrow that was meant to unlock an upgraded stand, and he wrote the climax and a chase for the arrow around that.

And it Kira's case, he wasn't worthy, but the arrow noticed his desperation for an escape ability. Thus, granting him the 3rd ability Bites The Dust but not the full requiem.

Something worth noting is Giorno points out how much the arrow hurts when it touches his stand, so maybe that's evidence he's not worthy, 'cause maybe that's the arrow rejecting him? It might just be a small little quirk of the arrow, and I'm not to keen on the idea that Araki planned it all from the start as opposed to coming up with it later but naturally working to make things consistent, but even so, I'm not sure what the point of the arrow hurting stands more was.

    @ruthron4374 2 года назад +3

    My theory:
Any arrow can turn stands in requiem, but a requiem can only be made if there are no other requiems nearby.
In the fight against Black Sabbath, Giorno didn't get a requiem because (in theory) Black Sabbath was a requiem.
Why would Black Sabbath be a requiem? First, he was carrying the arrow inside his mouth all the time, so he most likely pierced himself with the arrow sometime.
Second, like GER, he had stand arrow stamps on his hands and around his neck (not a relevant argument, but no other stand have those stamps aside from GER, so might be a clue, or maybe there is and i'm wrong).
Third, Black Sabbath powers is quite broken. It's quite complex to explain but basically anyone who steps on the shadows can have his soul grabbed by Black Sabbath. If the person is a non-stand-user, his soul will be pierced by the stand arrow carried by Black Sabbath and either the person will become a stand user or simply die. An stand user will have his stand grabbed by Black Sabbath and the arrow will pierce the stand, and as we've seen with Giorno (and considering that no stand could become requiem nearby other requiem) this probably would kill the stand user. Basically, during the night Polpo would be fucking invincible, or at least really tough to fight against, and looking at Polnareff requiem, one don't need to be totally unbeatable like GER.
Polpo maybe stood on the prison to keep his discovery on secret, but for that i don't have any arguments.
This might be the reason why Diavolo also didn't transform his stand on a requiem. Maybe during the scene where Diavolo was desperately trying to pierce King Crimson with the arrow, Silver Chariot Requiem was technically still active.
This was more about "Black Sabbath is a requiem" than anything else but it fits the topic, i think.
Sorry if i've sounded like a dumbass on some parts, english is not my native language.

EVEN IF THAT'S THE CASE, it being individually singled out is emblematic of it having some kind of unique property. If it looks different from the rest, it stands to reason that it does something different from the rest. Perhaps striking your stand with a regular arrow has effects too, but I doubt it would result in a true Requiem stand.

    Requiem stands require multiple factors.
The user to have an extreme desire/determination.
The arrow to accept the user as worthy.
Almost every case of a requiem stand (of which I deem bites the dust included) falls under those circumstances.
Polneraff got it vs Diavolo because he wanted to stop Diavolo and live. But the first time I believe can be put down to the arrow choosing him as worthy but Polneraff himself not wanting the power at the time out of fear/lack of control. So the effect wasn’t permanent as it wasn’t a full acceptance.
Giorno got it at the end of part 5 for needing to stop Diavolo and didn’t get it the with black sabbath as the arrow deemed him unworthy at the time.
Diavolo didn’t get it because he wasn’t worthy and fate decided he would not get a requiem stand. As the finale twist of part 5, was that Diavolo got to control his own fate…. Until that point.
Kira got it because he did not want to be discovered. And I consider it a requiem stand because it changed the look of Killer Queen slightly and for people who say “oh it’s not a requiem stand based on the powers before and after”… We have had 2 other confirmed requiem stands and neither of them had consistent power but BOTH met the needs of what the stand user absolutely required in that moment. That is the defining requiem stand trait. If I needed a perfectly toasted bagel to live upon my stand being pierced by the arrow, it doesnt matter Wtf my stand DID, it’s new thing would be providing me my damn perfect toasted bagel. Polneraff receiving his requiem stand when he did the first time was accidental, the arrow always knew when polneraff and what polneraff would need the stand for but it was for a time later down the line. Like receiving mystery medicine for an unknown illness you’ll get years before you get become sick with it, you wouldn’t use the medicine then, you’d save it for later. That’s what the arrow was doing. And giorno needed a trump card vs Diavolo.
Kira also meets these rules. His powers may be more consistent with his original powers but is still the perfect tool he needed to solve his situation.
So no, no specific arrow grants bonus powers. But the arrow does play a part. And it may not be a requiem stand by name but bites the dust is a requiem stand by my standard. Of which is a much more consistent basis then “oh the powers are…”.

Quite a few counterpoints here. To establish one thing right off the bat, there isn't necessarily any definitive proof as its never explicitly stated meaning we're only left with anecdotal evidence. However, the anecdotal evidence lines up enough that it seems to me to be clearly a deliberate hidden detail on Araki's part.
For starters, on the topic of the beetle arrow also granting stronger stands. This is something i strongly believe in which i have a few counterpoints against the video regarding.
Firstly, regarding the whole "amount of the virus" idea. We know nothing about how the virus works as it is obviously well outside the realm of what we know to be capable in the real world, nor do we know anything about how the arrows harness the virus as their creation is so heavily convoluted. It is possible it grants stronger stands thru something completely unrelated to size or virus amount, and also possible that somehow the arrow size or shape alone is responsible for how much virus someone receives. Simply put, we know next to nothing about the virus or the arrows so we have no understanding about how the virus or a supposed stronger arrow would even function, meaning we cannot blatantly state it impossible.
Secondly, regarding the comments on what arrows both Dio and Diavolo used. Both Dio and Diavolo were in possession of the beetle arrow while they did or couldve awakened their stand. Both of them are both intelligent and resourceful on their own as well as having acquaintance with Enya while possessing the beetle arrow. If the beetle arrow is stronger, it can very reasonably be assumed both of them knew and used it either through Enya or an assumption based off of the arrows particular design or both.
Furthermore, this means the beetle arrow like created every single time altering stand in the original universe except for Made in Heaven (Killer Queen only received any time altering ability after receiving a strange power boost of its own), and Araki himself has stated he considers time manipulation the ultimate ability (which is why he gave it to every final stand wielding villain in the main uni and even the first alternate uni part thru alt Diego) as well as referring to time stop as the strongest ability. Its also worth noting that Man in the Mirror was stated to be fairly weak in physical strength due to its powerful ability despite both time stop stands being some of if not the physically strongest in the series. Moody Blues is also shown to be similar in speed and strength despite only having the ability to look into time without altering it.
Aside from time altering abilities, the beetle arrow would presumably then be the source of Crazy Diamond, another stand with absurd physical strength and speed paired with a still powerful ability, Whitesnake, which controls the very soul itself and literally removes and adds stands alongside more than a few other functions (all without sacrificing its large range and user control), Weather Report, which... I mean... Heavy Weather, and Hermit Purple, which despite probably sounding weaker at first as its extremely utility focused and lacks almost any combat capabilities, it does outclass most stands with its sheer versatility tapping into literally any medium (including the falling of dust) to display extremely specific information over a notable area (such as the closest tar drum in the city). Even similarly utility focused stands lack this extreme level of versatility, detail, and effective range all in one.
And another point to further reinforce the anecdotal evidence for the stronger stands, the only two (possibly three if you count Trish although this is arguable and inherently different) cases of family awakening stands, the Joestar and Pucci families, are within this same category of stands very possibly created by the beetle arrow. Meanwhile, when Koichi was shot by the arrow his family never seemed to be affected, whereas its shown that incapable users are harmed by their own stands, even with family awakenings (such as Holly). Every other case of multiple stand users in one family, namely the Darbys and Kiras, it is both possible and plausible that they were pierced separately or developed their stands separately. This plausible piece of anecdotal evidence exactly lining up with the already very particular and consistent anecdotal evidence of stronger stands just established only adds to the argument that this is most likely deliberately planned by Araki.
Now back to requiem, regarding the idea of failing the worthiness check. The idea that the arrow would cause no affect at all if the user was deemed unworthy makes little sense when one takes into account how this works with normal stands. Yes its true the arrow naturally seeks out worthy users even on a physical level, but this has never physically stopped the arrow itself from activating. Its shown that both direct contact of the arrow and a family awakening of the arrow will still cause a stand to awaken in unworthy users, and the stand will simply either actively harm the user or achieve nothing at all (as with Koichi's egg). It would be very odd for requiem to instead act differently and not show at all, especially when we have a specific example of a failed requiem acting against its own user. As for this happening only because Polnareff was dying, the ability acted subconsciously against him without his control even when he pricked himself the first time, and as for him already being crippled, healed wounds have never seemed to have any bearing on stands capabilities, nor have any kinds of wounds been shown to have any bearing on either a users ability to control his stand or to pass as worthy of the arrow.
In conclusion, I have written a very long message very few people will probably read.

My bug argument for the beetle being a reqium arrow is this: Surely if the arrow Polpo had could grant Reqium, it would have already, and thus Diavolo would know about it. Black Sabbath is an ability that actively draws out a person's stand (of they have one) and tries to pierce it with the arrow. The whole point of the test is that it either awakens a stand or weeds out people who already have them. The possibility of people having stands is part of the point of the test. Surely, with the probably hundreds of people that Polpo has under him (only including the ones who are alive. There are probably way more that died as a part of the mafia), surely one of those people would have a requim stand, then Diavolo would find out about Reqium, and he would have gotten it before the part even started.

So if it's not different than the normal arrow... Does that mean that giorno kept his requiem power at the end? Since the arrow have been seen to fall after the fight against diavolo. Then it's kinda like kira's Bite the dust, it just stayed.

Judging by the fact that Chariot losing the arrow didn't instantly deactivate/cancels out its existence..
      No
The anime also makes it apparent that the most "stand out" design .. a.k.a the "arrow-head" in GER is a part of GER, not from the arrow itself, just like Chariot's arrow scar in its neck.
Unlike Shueisha's coloring which just plain out put the arrow in place of Gold Experience's iconic forehead helm.

It's meant to be ambiguous, we don't really know whether or not GE alstayed as GE. However, I believe that GER probably went back to normal after it lost the arrow. While Chariot was able to stay as a requiem when it lost the arrow, keep in mind that was after it was separated from Polnareff. In the flashback, when it was still Polnareff's stand, it reverted to normal when Polnareff took the arrow. It's possible that it work differently while it is an independent being. I know people will say that Chariot reverted in the flashback because it hadn't completed its transformation, but of you go back to that scene, you'll see that that explanation makes no sense, as it had clearly already transformed, and Polnareff was referring to it's ability, not its form. Also, I doubt Araki would have that flashback, only to contradict it 4 chapters later. It could also be that even when Chariot wasn't holding on to the arrow, it was still considered to be in its possession, considering that its ability was still protecting the arrow. Also, and this is not an argumentative point but just an opinion, it would be weird for the arrow to be a part of GER, and then for it to just fall off, like antlers or something.
However, again, there is no definitive answer. I feel that there is more evidence pointing to GER returning to being just GE, but Araki could easily come out tomorrow and say that GER in fact stayed as GER. It's really up to each reader/viewer to decide for themselves what they believe is more probable.

@@DweezyBreezey exactly, i would also add the fact that Requiem activation's meant to be..
"to achieve one's last wish, true desire, goals, etc."
Considering that keeping the arrow away is Polnareff's dying wish, not necessarily saving the country, or protecting hope, but simply keeping anyone at bay. Only makes Chariot's sole purpose harder to achieve, unlike GER's who's sole existence is to "punish" Diavolo for escaping the flow of fate (as stated by Giorno right after GER's awakening "can you truly avoid destruction, boss? we're about to find out") had it not been for King Crimson's power, he'd die in various occasions, hence the well deserved end without an end for Diavolo, when the deed is done, Requiem lets go of its power, of his existence.. one that not even Giorno truly understand
Just by knowing that the target no longer 'exist'

I really hope requiem (or something similar to it) reappears in part 9. It’s one of my only complaints with the old universe that this cool game changing element wasn’t relevant for part 6. I get why it isn’t in part 6 cuz it wouldn’t fit the parts story. But I think if Araki continued the original universe with part 7, requiem would be something we’d see reappear.

I'm honestly kind of glad it doesn't show up again. It's cool on a surface level but it's ultimately a weak asspull that goes far beyond what we'd seen up to that point in terms of asspulls. Bites the Dust was an incredibly powerful ability but it ended up being defeated by logic and the hard, underappreciated work of emergency workers. As readers/viewers, we're on the edge of our seats because we can kind of figure out how the ability works and start to theorize ways it can be defeated with what the protagonists have on hand, and in fact, Bites the Dust is effectively defeated by someone who isn't even a stand user. I believe Part 4's ending is exciting thanks to this.
King Crimson on the other hand feels like a rushed resolution. The story spends so much time focusing on finding the identity of the Boss as if that's important to overcoming him, and the Doppio/Risotto fight actually makes it feel like yeah, actually, it is. Doppio has no idea he's the Boss because his other half has perfectly hidden his identity behind his own identity, to the point that he's even hidden the dangerous portion of his stand. I guess one could argue that fighting Doppio while he's not even aware of who he is would be boring, but the Risotto fight was a nail biter, and honestly I'm of the opinion that in a better planned Part 5, Risotto would have defeated the Boss in that situation and the climax of Part 5 would have felt fresh (imo Green Day/Oasis really felt like it dragged on for no reason). Instead, we get an "explanation" of the arrow and stands that raises more questions and instead of the work that went into tracking the identity of the Boss meaning anything, he just reveals himself (somewhat uncharacteristically, compared to the rest of the part) and starts swinging, only to be outdone by what amounts to an act of God (which itself is defeated in the most ridiculous way possible) followed by yet another unstoppable force, except this time, it knows what it's doing.
This is the same gripe I have with Jojolion's ending. There are so many creative ways that Wonder of U could be dealt with and instead, Araki opted for something very similar in Go Beyond; Ignore logic, reason, and reality and just solve the problem.

@@SerenadeURA Well, it’s possible that Araki thinks took inspiration from other mangas/animes, like Dragon Ball Z. Sometimes, a boost in strength can be helpful if the ability of a villain is too powerful to beat in your normal state, that’s not the exactly taking away logic from a situation. If a villain gets to have an advantage, so does the hero.
