So according to this video. The better you look, the more gravity you have and in turn the more fate is on your side. Yoshikage Kira had the biggest gravitational pull because Cinderella made his face “perfect” and he had a powerful stand. That’s why the arrow pierced him and gave him Bites The Dust to change his own fate. The only reason he lost was because one person stopped him. Someone whose power was to control gravity. Koichi.
Koichi is the master of fate.

    1. You are born with it
    2. You get in contact with an arrow
    3. A family member gets in contact with it.
But the way you explained it means that there is only one way:
You have the potential to awaken them -> Everybody is born with it but most of them will never be able to use them.
The arrows don't give you the stand. They force them to get out. And when a family member gets in contact with it the signal from this persons body will force the stands in his family to get out as well

I feel it’s the holy birth of Josuke that makes the action of breaking the curse. Although it requires a little bit of theory. When looking at one of the pages with a woman on it, the face is shown to look an awfully lot like being Josefumis’ mother; the page itself being a string that covers the makeup and biology of Rock Humans. When putting those two beside each other, I think that due to Josefumis’ backstory he’s actually a member of the Rock Human species. And if that’s true, then Kira and Josefumi merging to form Josuke could be the bridge between the species; being both human and Rock Human, and therefore can break the cycle of the biological effect of the rock disease.

    @Guru_1092 2 года назад +60

    So basically:
*1.* Stands are simply a visual representation of supernatural abilities or phenomenon, and have been explained throughout history as being spirits, gods, superpowers, and more. (Examples such as the Egyptian gods, Hermes, Japanese Yokai, etc.)
*2.* Humans can be born with a predisposition to having a stand (superpower), or they can be born as a regular old normie.
*3.* If a person has a predisposition towards having a stand, they can:
*A.* Just not awaken a stand, and live a relatively normal existence. (An example is Holly Kujo after being cured. She still has her potential, but it's just dormant.)
*B.* Possess a stand from birth. (Examples: Avdol, Mannish Boy, The Green Baby, and many others.)
*C.* Awaken a stand through mastery of a skill, such as mastery of the Ripple (leading to Hermit Purple-esque stands), The Spin (leading to Ball Breaker-esque stands), or cooking (leading to Pearl Jam-esque stands), etc... (In this case, many ancient gods were people who had mastered skills, such as Youma Hashimoto who obtained the Hermes stand).
*D.* Force a stand's awakening through certain objects (the Arrows, the saints corpse pieces)
*E.* Force a stand's awakening through various miscellaneous phenomena (such as the psychic signal emitted from Jonathan body after being possessed by DIO, the devil's palms awakening stands, the Wall Eyes, etc.)
*F.* Awaken a stand through some weird combination of some or all of the above(?)
*3.* A stand does not require a living being in order to exist (Notorious B.I.G is an example of this, as is Cheap Trick, and the Mutsukabezaka), or a human all for that matter (Stray Cat, the rats, the Gucci bag) because as previously stated, "stands are simply a visual representation of supernatural abilities *or* *phenomenon* ". This means that pretty much anything out of the ordinary can be considered the physical manifestation of a stand, even if it isn't linked back to a character who possessed the stand.
Correct me if I'm wrong or if I'm missing anything, please.

    • @alexfc679
      @alexfc679 Год назад +12

Excellent Summary! You forgot to mention that certain stands can evolve, whether naturally (as is the case of Echoes), training (Tusk) or through force ( GER and Killer Queen through the arrow, Made in Heaven through the Heaven Plan and D4c Love train through the Saint's Corpse). Also forgot that people can be given stands by stands like Whitesnake, although it's quite a specific way to gain one.

Ultimately, a Stand is ill-defined, as was Araki's intentions. Almost anything mystical and bizarre can count as a Stand, since the concept of Stands as we, the vast majority of viewers understand them, is a faulty definition created by Joseph and Abdul and they admit that, what they are saying, is conjectural and just seems to be lose categories that most phenomena can be filed under. But there are noted exceptions and clear breaks that defy these categorisations (like some Stands working even when the User is dead, for instance).

If I recall correctly, Part 4 perfectly shows this as a lot of Stand related things because urban myths or legends within Morioh. I recall in one episode of the anime that a man saw Yukako falling after her fight with Koichi before being bounced right back up and since he didn't know what was truly going on, he thought Yukako was jumping to her death but was spared and brought back up. Other things such as Angelo being turned into a rock and Terunosuke being turned into a book also contribute to myths and legends about the town and this all comes from Stands so the idea that the myths and legends of the real world could actually originate from Stands seems incredibly possible since we see the same thing happening within the series itself.

So what I get from this is that stands are a manipulation of cosmic energy, and that everything can tap into this cosmic energy. Since matter and energy are somewhat interchangeable, this cosmic energy can have many forms, but there is also a force that draws all energy together, creating fate. To manipulate this energy on a large scale is to manipulate fate, but there is no being strong enough to change it in an extremely meaningful way. Humans always had the ability to manipulate it, but it requires mental fortitude to achieve, which is why some die when hit by the arrow, and why holly fell ill. Also, it might be the case that collective thinking may cause the formation of gods and the like. Stands suit each character’s personality because they are created by the brain’s manipulation of cosmic energy. Stands with acts evolve as their user’s brain gains more fortitude. Ripple and spin users undergo vigorous mental training to use their powers. It might be that any character can use any stand ability, but they haven’t tried. Plus the big bad powers can be explained through this. Stopping time? Temporarily slowing all energy except for yours and the things you touch. Reversing time? Reversing the flow of energy. Skipping time? Speeding up the flow of energy to an extreme rate. I guess part 7 is a bit more complicated, but part 8’s big bad simply alters fate on a major scale, which I’ve explained to be a manipulation of cosmic energy. Anyways this has been my long and probably wrong conception of what has been said in this video

I'd say Hamon Beat really gets it at the end. It's not that everything supernatural is a stand, it's that stand is a man-made term that can encompass everything supernatural, and the 'supernatural' in JoJo is an extension of nature, rather than a contradiction of it. SupRAnatural might be a good term for it.

Maybe her intense desire to stop Kira caused her to develop a stand that allowed her to stay in the alley after death, while other ghosts like Shigechi were forced to move on immediately. The reason Heaven's door didn't show her as a stand user would already be explained in the story: it was only showing memories from before she died, and she developed her stand after death. It may even possible she isn't aware she's a stand user, since there would be nobody to tell her what stands are.

2:16 I also want to add in that Santana is actually a _LOT_ like a real-life demon in Aztec folklore called Cipactli. Considered by the Aztecs to be "the source of the cosmos," Cipactli was said to have an extremely durable body that was absolutely covered with hungry extra mouths along its torso to his limbs, and it had such an insatiable appetite and had such extraordinary power that the god Tezcatlipoca had to sacrifice his foot in order to defeat it.
Sounds _very_ much like Santana, a man-eating beast able to feed with all parts of his body as if his entire form were covered in mouths, along with the fact that Santana's body is also exceptionally tough and hard to kill. Just like Cipactli, Santana's foes also had to sacrifice a foot to defeat him. Even more, Tezcatlipoca is the Aztec god of night, discord, sorcery and war, similar to Joseph battling the Pillar Men when their solar weakness is gone (night), using chaotic and unpredictable tactics (discord) mixed with supernatural Hamon to perform superhuman feats (sorcery), and growing into an incredible fighter (war).
Of course, Cipactli is never once brought up in anything JoJo-related by Araki, but it is still super interesting how much Santana's part of the story has in common with a real Aztec legend. So perhaps indeed Santana directly inspired the Aztec people into recording him as the demon Cipactli since they didn't really have the technology thousands of years ago to understand who or what Santana actually was (unlike Joseph and Stroheim's scientists in a more modern era).

  • @LaserFace23

I still come back to this video a lot because it seriously poses a lot of interesting ideas that pop up throughout the series -- At 4:42, the concept of Hermit Purple being a "stand manifestation of Hamon" used to bother me a couple years ago. And it also bothered me that Jonathan/Dio also seemed to have the same "Hermit Purple" stand. But I found that thinking about it within the framework of the "Development Potential" stand stat helps a ton.
We see that Joseph's Hermit Purple has the lowest possible stat of E in potential, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing -- all it means is that the user has found every conceivable use for that stand, a true master. When Hamon is first introduced, it seems to be capable of just about anything the user can put their mind to, from combat to healing to mind-reading (sort of like how Part 3 Star Platinum is constantly pulling out new tricks, and has an A in potential), and Part 2 Joseph with his constant trickery, creativity, and misdirection takes Hamon's applications to their limits, and in particular seems to have a penchant for making Hamon travel long distances (like the string he used against Esidisi, or the cannonball crosbow he used against Wammu); One of Hamon's main disadvantages is needing direct contact with whatever you want to charge with Hamon, but maybe a truly unbridled master of Hamon could be someone who seems to use the air itself as a conduit, and not just for combat, but for all sorts of Hamon abilities. And that's exactly what we see Hermit Purple do, many of the standard Hamon abilities but better (mind reading becomes spirit photography and geolocation), and with the added bonus of newer abilities like extra range.
The seemingly throw-away comment of "If the Crusaders went back to Part 2 they may see a young Joseph with Hermit Purple" comment actually makes sense -- he may have unknowingly had the "stand" of Hermit Purple already, but at a higher level of development potential. He clearly had more natural talent for Hamon than any other Ripple user we see throughout the series, so it's possible he had the potential of using Hamon at a level nobody, not even a "master" like Lisa Lisa or Tonpetti, could conceptualize teaching him about, unless they were a fellow stand user who could teach Joseph about stands. Perhaps if Joseph went the Straizo/Lisa Lisa route and made Hamon his whole life, like how Tonio made cooking his whole life, he would've developed Hermit Purple to be like it is in Part 3 on his own, rather than via the stand arrow.
I dunno, I know this is a ridiculously long comment, I'm just spitballing ideas because the more you think about "what counts as a stand", the more interesting it becomes.

I think some stands in ancient time also took a form of a human being. After all, WoU also has an Impersonation ability that let's him be seen by stand users and non-stand users as well. And if an innocent bystander were to encounter him and his calamities, the bystander might even think that the doctor is some sort of super human able to control calamities. So it's not far-fetched thinking that stands cannot be seen by non-stand users but also that even when taking a form of a human being, they maybe even regarded as gods or goddesses by the ancient people.

It made your point very clear and I can totally understand the conclusion about supernatural ambiguity you got to. I'm definitely waiting for the next one about spin since the latest chapter does get a bit confusing about things not existing yet having an effect at the same time...

I think this brings up the question of how your given stand is determined. Like for example, Rohan got heaven’s door because he was shot by the arrow, but by this logic I think it’s very possible that he could have also manifested a stand through his mastery of creating manga. But if that were the case, would his stand still be the same heaven’s door or would it have different abilities?

If they wanted him to retrieve the arrows, wouldn't he have possibly mentioned it to Josuke and/or Okuyasu at some point? Unless the line you're going with is that Mikitaka lost his memory somehow or something.

Worth noting that in Run, hermes manifests in the user after he trains really hard to get fit, which sorta connects to the “mastery of a craft” idea
That could explain how Egyptian god stands exist far after ancient Egypt, as though the respective god abilities are simply a type of stand (like hermit purple being the result of Hamon mastery)

I think the best way to describe a stand would be "A supernatural ability tied to an individuals spirit" since hamon is stated to be something similar to spirit energy. And while ghosts do exist, only those with stands are able to see other stands.
I think supernatural phenomenon do exist outside stands, but they're only a stand if they're born from a user.
