Great video. Not rushed and showing the entire run in the engine bay is very helpful! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Just what I needed for installing my ham radio.
I use the same wire for my installs. It works well, heavy duty, keeps its shape and I’ve never had an issue for 20 years now. Excellent job!
You just saved me a world of hurt....I was getting ready to go through the passenger side via a small grommet opening behind my side vent. The work space is incredibly tight and finding the wire inside the truck after pushing it through was impossible. I was going to buy a fish wire tomorrow but now....easy peasy..Thank you.
Running power is an easy job, seeing it done proper makes it even easier. Thanks for sharing.. P.s. Nice color on the truck.
Love the magnetic. Thanks.
This is what I was looking for. Thanks for taking the time to make it and share it.
You're very welcome!
Very Nice! I am big in IT cable management. This encourages me to up my auto game. Found your excellent post as I am looking for video on running wire through door boots on my 2011 f150. Thanks
Thank you. I did the wire in door boot in a neon back in the day, it took a good but of work. Best of luck on your project.
I’ve been watching piles of videos trying to figure out an easy way to add another inverter in the back for the kids to plug into besides where the dogs are always moving in the center. Plan on just looping an extension cord behind the seat again like I did in my last truck. This is going to help immensely! Thanks for the video! Great job!
Awesome
Couple years late on this but Ford has you covered already on this. Above the factory wiring harness you see the small nipple on the grommet, if you cut that off its meant for this exact purpose. When your done seal it with RTV silicone. There is another one on the passanger side as well. Look up the F150 upfitters guide for more details becuase the F150 is common in Fire, EMS, PD, DPW etc they are built with features like that and luckily the information is available.
Great info! Thanks for sharing! Is the Ford F-150 upfitter guide online? Link?
I feel this works better as it had a downward fall and then is zip tied reducing the risk of water ingress. Thanks for sharing.
Very nicely done and very clean! I anticipate doing the same to my F150. Great links you provided for the circuit breaker & fuse block. I've used the large audio fuse holders on my previous installs, but the circuit breaker is cheaper and eliminates issues with purchasing fuses of the proper amperage if you blow one. I was surprised to see you use home wiring for your install. Never really considered using it, as I figured it would be too stiff to run in a vehicle. I need the 6 or 8 gauge for my HF install.
Thanks, it was well worth taking a few more minutes to get it done right. Let us know how your project goes.
So much better than Chevy. I tried routing a wire in a 22 Silverado -- they give you a little nipple for upfitting but the center rubber is too thick and you can't get a screwdriver in there straight. Popped the grommet and nylon keepers out, took nearly 4 hours to reinstall because of the location and how the nylon pieces interlock to each other.
Thank you man, that was so easy. I didn’t try that because I thought it was that easy but mine slipped right out lol
Good to hear
I like it, looks very good....clean. I like using extension cords, you can get them in different gauges and lengths and with different covers. But again great job.👍👍
Right on
Very clean install Thanks!
You bet
Very clean install! I took inspiration from this and will likely copy the install. I need to run power for a 2m and I like the idea of running accessory wires at the same time. You can get the overhead raptor console on eBay to get the factory “up fitter” switches - I’m sure you would have no problem running them through a relay for your accessory wires.
That would be nice, I have not been able to find anything that will work with my setup yet. Thanks!
Best videography on how to do this - great!
Thank you.
Looks solid, thanks
You bet
This helped me a lot thanks
Thanks for the help
Happy to help
First class job.
Thanks
thank you. that was a big help
Awesome. What project did you do?
@@dutchofsc installed some LEDs front and back. Ran the switches through.
With the ppf cost of good ofc wire I'd suggest running power wire in the same side as battery
I really liked this video. I plan to copy you for the most part since I have a 2016 F150; from the video, it looks like we have the same architecture under the dash. I am wiring up my 2m/440 radio and will run two extra lines for future off-road lights and an emergency beacon. I have a few questions: What shape is the bracket you made to support power distribution block? How and where did you mount it? And lastly, how did you mount the power distribution block to it (nut and bolt or self tapping screws)? Any other advice on that would be helpful.
Glad to hear it. I used a metal square that I had in the garage, the type you would buy from lowes, cut the ends to length, drilled holes that aligned with the holes in the body, used a slightly larger nut on the back of newly made bracket to space out the mount. I used two nuts and bolts to secure the power block to the frame. Let me know if this helps, I can make a quick video of any specific issues. Just reach out here, and thanks for watching
earned my subscription! thanks! and what about that bed light install?
Thanks!! Install went well, did not get a chance to film it, but everything worked out perfect.
Thank you for the video! Super helpful. I'm installing a 50 Watt radio. Would you suggest to use the 50 Amp circuit breaker?
Size your breaker to protect the wire. Use a DC amperage chart, distance has a huge impact on wire size requirements.
@@dutchofsc cool. Thanks a bunch
Great video. Thanks. Dumb question: Your power wire and your pass thru wires are loomed. Did you pull these wires through the large grommet in the firewall with the loom on or did you simply loom the wires on each side of the grommet? It’s a pretty tight grommet so I was wondering how you it a loomed wire thru it. Thanks.
I have looming up to the boot on each side.
Wish I would have found this vid a year ago. I put my aux fuse panels behind the back seat.
I know they advise not attaching the ground to the battery due to current sensors upstream, but you grab your ground inside the cab, rather than near the battery. Never thought about doing this.
It works, plus the charging system is usually more robust and able to keep up with all my shenanigans.
Thanks man it was a pain in the ass and not to mention it already took up all 6 feet of my fucking wire before i got it in the cab.
Thanks for watching.
does rf radiation from 2 meter antenna cable effect any of the other wires going through that grommet? they all seem super close together
No problems with the truck, my after market sub will pop when transmitting, probably because it's next to a 110 watt radio. LOL
I just turn down the gain, and no problems
badass brotha where did u ground the amp? im gona have easy time thanks to u man
What amp are you talking about?
Have you successfully gotten the OEM bed lights to work? I'd love to put them in my 2015 XLT!
Not yet, that project went on the back burner for some reason. I'm hoping to get it done soon.
As an update, I cant seem to find the bed light kit anywhere. Out of stock with no delivery date. Hopefully sometime soon.
There is a grommet on the other side of the brake booster on mine. There's nothing through it right now and I've ran a test wire into the cab through the hole. Would there be an disadvantage of stamping a 1/2" hole in the grommet and using this hole?
I think I know what you are talking about, and I was going to use that first, but this turned out to be easier for me, especially since I have so many wires going through there now. I think your way will work great too!
@@dutchofsc - I actually found a beefier grommet for the 2" hole that had graduated steps that allowed me to cut for a perfect fit with the 1/2" loom. You are right - between that and the wire channels in rocker panels, these trucks were meant for stereos.
Great video, quick and dumb question you use 6 gauge red wire from + battery to + fuse box. Are you using 6 gauge black wire from - battery to - fuse box? Or 6 gauge black just from the inside of cab ground to - fuse box and ground? Hope that made since. Thanks for your time.
Good question. I'm using the same 6awg wire from the grounding point to the fuse block, except the wire is wrapped in black shrink wrap.
To clarify, my ground comes from a grounding point inside the cab, just above the power block. I don't have a negative wire running to the battery. Hope that helps.
@@dutchofsc Thanks for the quick reply. That is what I thought but was not sure. You should sell the bracket for the fuse box. I want to so this setup but need to find a way to make the bracket. Thanks again for your time.
Dutch can I ask for the dimensions of the bracket you made? Thanks for your time.
@@robertraney8662 I'll have to get underneath there and look, don't remember off hand
How did you get around the down fall in the engine compartment? I have tried a wire coat hanger and an fish tape to no avail.
It just get caught going though.
I'm sorry, the down fall?
Do you have an after market deck? If stock, how did you wire the amp to the deck?
My audio is stock, this is for communication radio and other power. I do have a amp and small sub connected to the factory wiring behind the back seat.
Hello
Where are you located. I want to get may dashcam system and underglow installed. Thank you
Where did you mount your antenna for your truck?
ruclips.net/video/avVVLYzvXkQ/видео.html
I installed one at the front fender, still going strong a year later. I added another radio since, and a 1/4 wave VHF antenna above the third break light, in the roof. I use this one most of the time. Another NMO mount, installed the same way as my fender mount.
Great video! Very helpful! I was told the OEM bed lights have to be programmed at the Ford dealership or by using Forscan. Do you know if this is correct?
From what I understand they do have to be enabled, either at dealer or forscan.
Wiring in certain base model trucks is missing, at least the short run from the kick panel to the bed. Those are the wires I spliced in for a future bed light project video, hopefully coming soon.
Thanks for watching.
What is the name of those clips that holds the battery cable to the firewall?
This is something similar, I think. I had those lying around.

What year is your vehicle
Its literally the first thing I say in the video. Lol. It's an 18.
Great job, where did you get the cover fro the wire?
Thank you. Walmart, auto zone, or any store like that. Its wire loom or wire cover depending on who sells it.
@@dutchofsc I got two roles of it from Amazon, along with the tubing, and heat shrink. I use a lot of different stuff for electronics, but this was outside my usual supplies.
Good deal. Let us know how it goes.
"Easiest" way doesn't always mean "smartest" way. That is the case here... This is a really, really, bad way of doing it, especially so LOW to the ground.... "water tight and good as new" my ass!
Thanks for watching
Philip, do you have a better recommendation?
Don’t ya just love those keyboard warriors who are quick to criticize, yet fail to offer an alternate solution? I think you did a fantastic job! This video will be a blueprint for my 2020 STX.
