I LOVE my 24-105! That, my 55-250 and my "nifty-fifty", are the 3 lenses I can't do without. (70-200 f/4 is on my wish list, and at some point, when I can justify the cost, I would like to pick up a 500mm for wildlife photography.) But the 24-105, whether on my 300D, 20D, or 1DX Mk III, just simply delivers.
Totally agree the 24-105 just offers so much range for its price. We have the 17-55mm apsc canon and it is amazing. However only thing is we wish that it could go a lil wider at times because certain places we need more room to fit the food and the person in the same shot. Also I think the f4 aperature won't get you that nice bokke. Still sounds like great lens build. Great review!
I've had the 24-105 for over a decade and just never reached for it. It’s a great sharp lens but… kinda boring. Also the F4 constant aperture is a bit of a lie, it gets darker as you zoom in. It just doesn’t tell your camera the aperture hasn’t changed. The 24 has quite a lot of barrel distortion, can be fixed in post but it just turned me off taking the pick in the first place. So its been a 35 to 105 for me. The 28 - 135 is just fantastic. That extra reach makes it REALLY useful. It is lighter, has IS and the difference between the 24mm I never used and a handsome looking 28mm makes it an easy choice. Also they are even cheaper and still really sharp even if it’s not L series. Get one, get it serviced and you have a banger of a lens that you might just weld onto your camera.
Does the 24 - 105 mean that you can adjust the lens to those lengths? And does this lens fit all cannon cameras, dslr or mirrorless? im just a beginner wanting to try out photography, thanks

Hey! It will do a decent job at portraits but it's not ideal especially in low light. An 85mm f1.8 would be be better if you're shooting portraits specifically and will perform better in lowlight and look sharper too, so I'd recommend that on a budget!
Is it worth trading a 200mm f/2 version 2 lens for a 24-105 f/4??? I already have a 24mm f/2, a 50mm f/1 and a 70-200mm f/2 version 1 and my camera is a M50 MK 2. What do you think?
I would personally keep the 200mm if you already have those other lenses to be honest. The 24-105 is a great convience lens but your 24, 50 and a 70-200 is going to be much sharper!
i dont think 24-105 is best of lens for beginners. definitely if cropped camera like my 80d.. i think good beginner for that would be the actual kit lens 18-55... or to the 16-35 if extra monies. my opinion for crop sensor if doing videos like me.great video tho bro overall

Honestly, they are both great. I actually do really like the sigma version (and love sigma lenses in general), I'd personally go for whichever you can get at a good price!
Hi Jack. For wedding photos, honestly we would recommend using primes or more expensive zoom lenses like the 24-70 f2.8 or 70-200 f2.8 as these will be a lot sharper and better in low light. As the 24-105 is only f4 it's not going to perform as well in low light and is more of a 'run and gun' lens whereas a wedding is quite an important event, so you want really high quality, no compromises level of glass for something like that.
Did you mean m50? With an adapter you can. The older one is great if you're on a budget and we've used the mark II a lot and it's not that much better to justify the price difference though the build quality is a lot nicer.

Thanks for the follow! For the 800D, I would totally recommend 17-55 f2.8 lens. It's a great multi-purpose lens with a wide aperture as well. You should be able to get it used for a good price :)
If you can get a good deal on the new one, I would personally get the newer one now, but this model is still great if you're not willing to spend as much.

We noticed that too but mostly at the widest angle and at f/4. Have you tried stopping down the aperture? It fares a little better at f/5.6 and f/8 from our experience.

Personally I would get the 2nd version if you can, it's a good upgrade over this one, but it depends how much you can get this one for :)
Nope, the one lens you'll ever need is the Sigma 24-105 F4 Art....it's WAY sharper than the 24-105 L. I have taken thousands of pictures with both. :)

Yes you have 24mm all the way to 105 and everything inbetween. It will will fit any canon dslr cameras with the ef and ef-s mount. :)

Would this be good for Portraits? And isn't the aperture too low for like weddings and stuff where you might need more strength on low Light?

Hello there, is the 18-135mm lens better for all-around lens?
It's a decent lens, but only works with crop sensor cameras and we found the image quality was a little mushy towards the 100-135mm.

£300-400 still sounds kind of pricey though I understand photography is not a cheap hobby. What would you recommend for like £100 as a starting lens?
For £100 you can't go wrong with the Canon 50mm f/1.8. It's not very versatile but it's great for portraits and bokeh goodness!

it has a major problem wich is that the aparture flex cable tends to break over time..., it is sad because it costs around 150 euro's to fix it

I've noticed some serious problems with chromatic aberration. I need to test it more but is it something anybody else has noticed?
