    Love my 24-105 lens! Even at F4 the bokeh is still creamy and since I use an FX3 F4 isn’t a problem since I can crank it to 12,800 ISO and be fine in low light situations.

    I had the 24-105 EF 10yrs ago on my 6D and it produced amazing images that i have framed in my house. I have been shooting with the 24-70 2.8 rf for the last couple of yrs on my RF cameras and I still wonder if i should have saved $1k and just went with the 24-105. On a side note i have the 70-200 f4 rf and i cant recommend it enough. Super light and just stays in my bag all the time. Totally worth it.

    I have the Canon RF 24-105L IS. I have come to love this lens. I also have the 28-70 as a photo lens, but nothing beats the versatility of the 24-105. If I were honest I'd say that the f/4 aperture was the thing that gave me pause using the lens. But as I have gained more experience, I realize that the Canon L series 24-105 lens is very sharp and is about as close to the perfect walkaround lens in the Canon lineup.

  • @adude394

    After 2+ decades of DSLR only, I finally added mirrorless to my gear bag, the R5 and R6 Mk II. The 24-105 EF has been my favorite all-purpose lens for some time now. Versatile, lightweight, and a great walkaround lens. The first two RF lenses I got were the 100-500 and 200-800, which have been excellent on both camera bodies, and I used my 24-105 EF via the EF > RF adapter. I decided that I wanted the RF version of the lens (not the newer Z version that costs quite a lot more, and which I understand is quite heavy). Mine should arrive tomorrow, and really looking forward to putting it through its paces!

    I would argue you get better Bokeh with this lens than the 24-70 f2.8 because at 105, the extra telephoto is more beneficial than the extra stop.

  • @ChristopherGoetting
    @ChristopherGoetting Год назад +7

    The lovely thing about the R6II (or other modern fullframes) is that you can shoot f/4 in a dim room at ISO 12800 and not even notice the ISO is that high unless you look at the info view. If you do care about the bit of grain thats there, just bump the correction slider to 5 or 10 and call it a day. The f/2.8 isnt going to get you much more out of focus in the background, so if that's really what you want you need a prime (or the 28-70 f/2) anyhow.
    I love my 24-105, but did just pick up the 24mm f/1.8 for a lightweight walkaround alternative (or for gimbal, since I pretty much exclusively shoot with that at 24mm anyhow, and a 50mm if I want something else).

    thanks for your interesting point of view. I got the Canon RF 24-105L IS as a kit lens with my R6II. I just watched your video for some kind of validation and comforting. It is practical for exterior shooting, where you can reframe with ease and it is stable. I'd like a faster lens though, and there is the lack of choice from canon: the small prime lenses are cheap and seem nice and do some macro, but they have a slow autofocus for video. And the pro prime lenses are big and heavy, expensive, but they are faster and have a responsive AF. And the faster zoom lenses are really front heavy, expensive and cumbersome, though good quality. SO there is no perfect lens for my purpose (gimbal work with moving subjects dancing).

    In this age of high performance digital cameras, it seems weird to me how obsessed some people get about a single stop of aperture. I've heard people say that "f/2.8 is a must" in low light, despite it only being one stop faster than f/4. You'd think low light photography would have been impossible back in days of 100 ISO film! Besides, f/2.8 isn't anything special when compared to primes. The 24-105 f/4 is probably what I'll buy when i switch over to mirrorless - looks like a really nice lens 👍

    I've been using an A7iii with a Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 for B-Roll footage at work. I'm old and boring and shoot mostly sports, so I still use a nice camcorder, not sexy but gets the job done. Finally pulled the trigger on an A7iii for myself and bought the F4 24-105 G OSS along with it... I wanted a long focal length but 70-200 seemed like overkill. Also I got a good deal on a barely used one. It was a big purchase and I was honestly regretting not going with the 24-70 off the bat. BUT the more I use it, the more I love it. Eventually I'll buy the 24-70 because I will need better low light shots when Soccer season starts up for me.

    Subscribed. I just moved to the mirrorless world (R6 II to be precise) and while initially wanted to keep my EF lenses, decided not to and move to the RF glass world.
    I will be going to Greece in about a month, and want to minimize the number of lenses to bring (just 2). I am definitely bringing my RF 14-35mm F4, so the decision is which second (and my "on-camera") should I bring: My RF 24-105mm F4? Or should I bring my RF 24-70mm F4? Given I am on a vacation trip, I think having the extra focal length would be beneficial vs having a wider aperture.

      Not only the aperture, check also the sharpeness, that makes a huge difference, but be aware of how much noise your camera have on low light. I have an APC-C camera and anything more than f3.5 in low light means a lot of noise and a lot of work in post processing. Today I use two lens, a 50mm f1.8 and a 100mm f2 due to low light situations and to be honest, I don't mind to be moving around taking the photos and as a beginner, I also feel that I learn a lot doing that.
      For you, I'd go with the 35mm f1.8, but also having a 50mm would be great.

    Stupid comment from someone that don't understand how we shoot in Africa. Try creep up to a pride of lions, or a rhino, or a hippopotamus, an elephant, leopard with that tiny toy. Reach starts at 600mm, then can go to 1200mm. What is 105mm going to afford you? Taking indecent shots of sparrow cloaca? I sometimes wonder why some live in such small worlds, that they neither see nor imagine beyond their own small back yards. Get some exposure!!

    Almost got this lens but I need a fast versatile lens so I went with the 24-70 2.8 canon of course

    • @connormccaskill
      @connormccaskill  Год назад +1

      Definitely still a great option! Are you more of a video or photo shooter?

      @@connormccaskill mainly photographer but i been merging into the video spectrum. But I got the 24-70 when the canon r first came out. Bought this and the 85rf 1.2 but I broke my 85 😭😭💔💔

      Oh no! Sad day. Good you still have the 24-70 to keep you going
