In this video I want to discuss the cleanest possible bassline for psytrance. I spend a lot of time creating the patch and I think there are a lot of interesting techniques. For example the patch included an EQ which follows the pitch of the bass, the ability to set the amount of processing with 1 macro, no need to resample the bassline & automatic sub bass removal for avoiding traditional kick bass phase allignment. From the previous sentence it might be clear but this video is fairly technical & complicated. I do believe that understanding it and making your own version of this patch (or getting it from my patreon) will help you as a producer!

Projektor is an alias I started around august 2019. Under this alias I started posting psytrance music with a clear emphasis on theming and a more progressive or mainstream style than other producers. The goal of the Projektor alias is to release memorable music which works well on the dancefloor. Around january 2020 I started posting tutorials and other helpful videos on youtube again under the Projektor alias. Together with these videos I started selling several products which can be used to improve your productions. I have always believed music production knowledge should be shared and that is now one of my main goals with the Projektor alias. Currently Projektor is the only alias under which I release music, videos or products but this might change in the future!

It’s not clickbait, it’s clickbass! 🙌🔥
ahahaha as long as people enjoy the content, they should not mind getting "baited" into it, right?
@@Projektor_music Exactly!
Im happy you baited me 😂❤
Wow that LFO envelope, added to the distortion automating the mix post of the EQ in serum nice touch
Glad you like it!
more professional than 80% of professionals,
Thanks man! glad you enjoy!
FYI, I followed up with Melda about the ability to lock the rotation to round numbers ^_^ In the right click menu, next to the ‘Snap to X’ and Y controls is a funny little icon with a sort of ‘U’ shape. If you click on this, you get a numerical menu. Select 9 on this menu then it will snap in multiples of 9, allowing you to hit 90 spot on 🙏👍
ahh cool thanks man!
Glad to see you back, keep it up!
Thanks man! I've been back for a little while now!
Great video - thanks for this! Really liked your message at the end ... so good to hear as a beginning producer. Thanks for all your help and insight.
Great content man! Very interesting thinking/concept
Thanks, glad you like it and I hope these concepts can help you in your future bassline creation efforts!
Some interesting concepts in here. I especially like the idea of amplitude envelope post filter. I tend to either do harmonic manipulation before sampling, or I integrate eq into the (resampled) waveform, then I don't need to worry about key tracking eq. Of course the sacrifice is that the eq curve is "baked in" to the sound and can't easily be changed after the fact, but I'll usually do a fair amount of compositional work before I settle on the single cycle tone I'd like to resample. But, I also tend to like my basslines a little dirty, and haven't noticed any real sacrifice there when playing on festival systems. Great content, man. Appreciate you sharing!
🤘👽✨
yeah I considered doing it but for the wavetable in OSC A it would mean I could only bake it in via EQing as you would need to edit a lot of frames to get the same harmonic series in each one of them.
When it comes to dirty basslines I don't think that's the same dirt as is being mentioned here. The kind of dirt like some gritty midrange is different than breaking the transient of your kicks or other bass notes via post ringing
@@Projektor_music "via post ringing". I only know of pre ringing caused by transients is a problem, and don't understand your use of "via" as a result. "Due to", maybe? I understand EQing to avoid it, with a linear phase EQ. But I guess it can appear after the waveform too?
@@thekeysman6760 yeah probably due to is a better word... I have another video looking into clean kick and bass coming up that will talk about the traditional methods and issues, hopefully that will clarify it
Hi- thanks for all of this, great video. I have been lurking under a different ID, but this will be my handle for actual music output
Nice man! Thanks for the kind words!
Man, how are you able to understand this topic so in depth? Thank you ❤
I've studied this for a long time my friend ahah
@@Projektor_music sincere thank you for sharing.
you can "eq" your bass within the synthesizer in the waveform harmonics editor. that way it's much cleaner and there is no need for key tracking anymore. you can also do the phasing in the harmonics editor for extra cleanness points.
also you can do the low cut switching for the first half of the note inside the synthesizer as well. use an envelope in sync mode and low cut the waveform with a modifier for the first bass note.
Yeah I could do everything in the wavetable but then the issue would be that I'd either loose the ability to change the phasing as I have now for or I'd be baking in a single style of EQ, this way I can still edit the EQ to suite my needs but it would be an interesting concept to explore.
@@Projektor_music by EQing the harmonics i mean to get the bass tone right in the first place. remove some of the muddy frequencies, resonances and shape the tone a bit. later in the chain there is still room for EQing for the mix. I get really nice results that way, definitely recommend to play with it :D of course this would be done before generating the phase shifted wavetable. and by doing so, one can create a couple of unique pre processed bass wavetables using your technique.
@@aidennymes6335 Yeah for me the removal of muddyness is done with the EQ that sits before the distortion, which doesn't move with the key but specifically targets the frequencies I want to remove, independant of the key played!
Yeah I think customizeability is a bit more with a standalone EQ but I agree that it would be a bit cleaner and simpler if I printed the EQ into the wavetable!
@@Projektor_music "lose", to not have, "loose", baggy! Wizard's sleeve. Cool vid, man.

Hi "projetor". I hope you have a nice day. The content of this tutorial is very helpfull. Can you share this Patch or the wavetable you use? I will wait a answer from you. Big hugs.
Hi, is there only the wavetable or the complete ableton-project? Is the complete Ableton-Project from this video somewhere available ?
kind regards
@@NowIsChannel there is the wavetable, serum patch & full ableton rack!
I don’t even make psytrance but I’ve been hoping to see a video on this 🎉 so much great information
You're welcome, hope you can still use it in your productions!
The cleanest bass is what sounds best to your ears and soul
no, if you watch the video I give a very clear definition of cleanlyness in basses.
@@Projektor_music yes I have watched your important videos. This maybe specific for Psy Trance . Everyone is their own judge I’ve made tracks in the 90’s specifically , Goa. Some tracks just sound too clean and digital . That’s just me.👍
@@brunoburtoni8479 yeah I guess people from the old school days will say that, but with those basses being shorter than a full 16th note, they also follow my definition of cleanlyness!
Your videos are always super helpful and have tons of great information, but I'm a little skeptical at 3:30 about needing to get the waveform to "look" right. Most interfaces, amps and soundsystems have high-pass filters at various points, not to mention that the speakers themselves (especially subs) do not have a linear phase response.
Getting the overlapping regions right to avoid cancellation and avoiding overlaps or zero-crossing problems is fine, and there are other reasons not to play with phase (it can reduce headroom) but it doesn't need to be perfectly symmetrical in order to sound clear, as no speaker system is going to replicate that accurately anyway.
it is about making sure that when the speakers do affect the signal, the damage is contained in such a way you will still have punch in the track. if you don't care about the waveform looks & such those things will be less (the extra filter doesn't change it, it just exaggerates the problem)
That's a high math. Very interesting. I've been out of music producing since the '00s. Things have become a bit more complex nowadays :)
Hello bro, i like your video. Its very very important for a kick bass clean and punch. Thanks for your video. see you bro
Thanks man! glad it was helpful!
The cleanest possible one shot cowbell hit ever, in the whole world, ever, amen, for next video please.
I mean, for that you can just use a sample...
@@Projektor_music Sorry. Cowbell humour is still a thing for some of us! I should have put the correct emoji after 😉 And I guess it's cultural, or more probably genre specific. Be well.
I'VE GOT A FEVER.... AND THE ONLY PRESCRIPTION IS MORE COWBELL
@@MOSMASTERING He doesnt get the reference though!
Used this tutorial, it worked well. Good to find out that less processing works perhaps better, forcing to find the sweet spot in the synth patch. Now i am wondering about colouring in order to have variations on a certain patch for basslines in several tracks. What's your take: do not colour just use different waveshapes? or yes colouring tools can do the work. I tried to find examples of Waves R-bass and Vitamin on Psybass but did not find a usable video (or was not so impressed). So.. does it make sense to get those 2 Waves plugins or not. Are there usable tools for adding some character to 16/th psy bass.
I'm glad you found this tutorial helpfull but it is out of date TBH. I've learned so much since I made this and recently I made a new (longer) version of this same tutorial! ruclips.net/video/wvFAgX2fS-8/видео.html
This is really great, thank you. Didt you made the kick from Serum?
Yes the kick drum was made in serum and is from my Quality Kicks sample pack!

Actually Creating the wavetable part was pretty interesting. How you do the wavetable then and move it into Serum?
I imported it into phase plant then it just saves as a standard wavetable .wav file
well i did actually run away from dancefloors because the kick was not phase aligned in the 7 measure of the song.
you sound like a bitwig user :)
How do you export the wavetable so it can be used in serum? I don’t get it 😢
I made a video on wavetableswhich should answer your questions: ruclips.net/video/B_VU1kIDafk/видео.html
is this wavetable incuded in your Projektor Wavetable Pack Vol. 1?
Yup, you will find 2 versions of my MFreeFormPhase wavetable in the saw wave category!

Wat serum is it bro? I bought rhe parche but i cant open it
I have the latest version of serum installed. but now that I think of it the patch I gave on patreon does not include the serum patch itself but rather the wavetable used, the ableton rack patch and project. I'll immeditaely update the post on my patreon to include the preset too. Thanks for letting me realize this!
The post has been updated with the serum presets!
Nice bro, will check now. Fucking interesting this stuff
@@transition9867 Nice, glad you like it!
Did you use Freeform Phase to draw a wavetable? If yes, how do you export to Vital in Cubase?
yes I rendered a 2 bar waveform and imported it through phase plant due to it's algorithm for importing. once you save as wavetable in phase plant you can use it in any synth you want, it's all common format. You can find a wavetable pack on my gumroad which includes the MFreeFormPhase wavetable but also many others mainly for synth sound design. You can open these wavetables in vital without any issue.
Thank You for answering! Im actually pretty noob and got only yesterday this Kilohearts subs. pack. Never used phase plant i still don't know how to process WaveT's.
Im more familiar with vital. Isn't drawing inside vital enough? Does it work the same? However, i draw a shape like yours but the bars of harmonics are all align,Not like yours that fade away,
Peace
@@Projektor_music
@@user-fx3yn9ud6u idk what you mean, you can't just draw in the waveform, you have to import it. both in phase plant as well as in vital. They will just have different algorithms to importing files & I think phase plant is better...
I just found out how to edit properly the WT in vital! . there is an option called amplitude scale!
i'm watching all your content on this psy bass topic bless you brother.@@Projektor_music
Thank you for answering so fast!
I dont understand the "creating wavetable"part. How do you do it? I'm lost XD@@Projektor_music
Sorry man, just a question. I don't get how to properly import the wave in Serum.
in the menu in serum there should be an option in serum to show the presets folder, in there navigate to tables then user and paste the file there! rescan files on disk (another menu option) and the file should show up in the user wavetables. hope that helps!
@Projektor_music yeah i know this. Sorry I did not explained myself better.
What I'm looking to understand (after I bounced the automation on depth, in my case at 1 bar duration) is how to import it correctly in serum, since the wave I saved into my folder don't look like the recording I did, and in your video you mention some extra steps you had to make in order to get the wavetable properly working as you showed us in the video.
@@lorecumi7141 ohh I use phase plant for creating my wavetables. I believe there is a video on wavetables on my channel. the extra steps is a clean up process for this particular effect, seperating the harmonics for individual processing. The importing happens after this as I do render to a single file after having first separated the harmonics. If you want to use my wavetable it is available in my wavetable pack on my gumroad page under the saw wave section!
@Projektor_music Thx mate. I "partially" saved the problem by dropping in serum a single cycle properly cutted at zero crossing. The result it's similar to yours, beside the little level of control on what you put in serum, lots of cycles must be selected and tried out before I found out the best.
Anyway, I'll definitely check your video and your wave.
Your trick inspired me a lot and it's really intelligent. Thx again! 💪
@@lorecumi7141 you might also enjoy the improvements I've since made to the patch, covered in the ultimate guide I released in october and the bass video I made in the beginning of this year!
Does anyone know a way to import this patch in fl studio?
there is no way to import it. you'd have to build it yourself copying the rack and the parallel processing inside patcher for example.
@@aidennymes6335 Got it! Thanks
Unfortunately the patch is only for ableton but it would be entirely possible, and maybe even easier, to make this in patcher. If you 're interested in recreating this in FL let me know as it might be useful for others!
@@Projektor_music you can even achieve processing chains like this by only using channel routing in fl studio. may be a bit tedious but that would be an alternative for people who are not familiar with patcher. but the control surface of patcher makes it really easy to have an interface to control the routing/blending/automation.
@@aidennymes6335 also in patcher you would be able to easily send the midi to both the EQ and the various serum instances, and use a single EQ for both serum instances.
haha fuk sik, can i do this with dubstep and fl ?
Probably but these techniques mainly work for psytrance
