This is such a great machine and excellently demonstrated here how to get even more from it. I have a mkII version of this machine and it's been with me for the past 7 years, unfortunately it’s in storage at the moment due to a house move, but I miss it so much and would not sell, even if the new ones are slightly more versatile again, but mine can still do practically as much. I’ve worked out in commercial gyms for over 30 years, and it matches everything you can get there for heavy-duty workouts. I’ve started using commercial gyms again at the moment, but they have their drawbacks. I'm looking for an ultra-compact gym now to use in my temporary accommodation but struggling to find anything good enough for the purpose. :(
I have a lot of videos featuring the Levergym if you want to see it in action more. I have an older video called, “The Powertec Levergym: The One Piece of Equipment I would Have If I Could Only Have One.” In that video I critique the machine, but also explain why I like it so much. Thanks so much!
Great stuff! I like to keep my powertec bench further away from the lever gym too. Benching feels a lot better that way for me. I'm also using the squat bar with the levers at the lowest setting instead of the roller pads for lat pull downs. The angle just feels better and I'm getting a greater range of motion. I never thought of using the lower pulley for calve raises and forearm work. Going to try that. Great vid as always!
Hey... have you figured out how to do a safety squat on the Powertec lever Gym. The padding across the shoulders is so appealing for the Leverage Squat but I wonder if it can be replicated on the levergym. You seem like the man to answer this question!
The Lever Squat is a bit more comfortable, but I’ve shown how to closely replicate that machine on the Levergym in a few videos. A while back, I made a lower body training video only using the Levergym, and a Short called, My Second Favorite Hack on the Levergym…check both of those.
furnished my basement gym mostly powertec, some body solid, this was over 20 yrs ago, did like the brand, EXCEPT the actual bench, now it did slide back and forth, BUT I thought it was a little to high off the ground, dudes I had over to lift said about the same thing, all it needed was to be about 1,2 in. lower then would have been perfect oh yeah my pieces were all independent from each other
Agreed. I’ve always said the actual Levergym is the better of the 2 pieces (even though the bench is still decent). Like you, I think the bench is a bit too high for dumbbell and barbell work, but it’s less of an issue if the bench is only being used in conjunction with the Levergym. Also, I should note, the height of the bench is an advantage when it’s being used with the attachments.
Thanks so much! It’s an older video, but I show how in my Levergym Training Series, it’s called, “Powertec Levergym Calf, Hamstring, and Quadriceps Workout Part 3.” I also have a RUclips Short covering it…I think that is called, “My Second Favorite Levergym Hack.”
It’s all about what feels comfortable, joint friendly, and effective. It won’t look the same for everyone and there are many options from decline to upright for variety.
I said it once ,I'll say it again, you are the king of home gyms, you always, l mean always find new ways to perform different exercises. (The King).I see that sometimes you even use the heavy weight and the levergym doesn't move. Is it bolted down?
I really appreciate your comment. Thank you so much. I don’t have the Levergym bolted down. I have the add-on footplates (I did a video quite a few months back covering them briefly). The footplates add additional stability and depending on the exercise, I will load the storage posts and/or the cable system for even greater stability.
5:30 - THAT right there would entice me to buy a powertec again. How is that low row?? I am DESPERATE to find something to mimic the hammer strength low row as i feel that machine is the absolute BEST for hitting the lower lats
Love this video…❤❤ can you please tell me what are the attachments that you are using for the chest flys and where can i purchase them…thanks as always your the best
Thank you! It’s a combination of cable extenders (linked in my Amazon affiliate store), the GymPin D Handle (linked in my Linktree), and revolving handles which came with my first Powertec Streamline Functional Trainer. The exercise is nowhere close to being as good as a functional trainer fly or pec dec, but if you’re limited on equipment, it can get you by.
Thanks so much! I am using the 20” Lite D Handle. I have a RUclips Short Review comparing it to the Prime Fitness Short Bar if you want a little more detail on it. Code HGHR saves 10 percent if you get it.
Your videos have been a lifesaver helping me narrow down my current gym build! Can't thank you enough! I'm unfortunately having a dilemma, I recently came upon an Inspire SF3 unit as my co-center piece for my build, but I am torn between investing in a levergym, or a rogue rhino as my second main piece. Do you believe I would still benefit enough from the levergym already having the SF3 in my gym? I would love a dedicated leg machine but I love the versatility of the levergym. My main decision for the SF3 was to utilize the adjustable pulleys for chest/torso/shoulder work. The innovative smith bar is pretty neat but I don't know if smith squats and presses are enough. I'm a skinny guy, and my main goal will be to add mass fast but safely. If you have any thoughts I'd appreciate it much. Thanks!
Great to hear and thanks so much. I have an older video called, The Powertec Levergym: The One Piece of Equipment I Would Have If I Could Only Have One. That may be worth checking out. With that being said, if you get the Inspire that will cover a lot of your upper body exercises and you could benefit from a lower body machine. I am slightly more reluctant to recommend the Rhino nowadays because the Squatmax by Titan costs significantly less. If you haven’t seen it, check out my video comparing the two belt squats for the pros and cons of each. I’ll conclude by saying, I honestly don’t miss any of my big, expensive leg machines now that I’ve been using the Compact Leg Sled as my only dedicated leg machine for the last 2 months.
Thanks so much and great to hear you’re happy with the Levergym! Most of the accessories I’m using can be found in my Linktree in either my Amazon Affiliate Store or through my GymPin Affiliate Link.
Thank you! I got mine directly from the GymPin website. They are out of the UK, but shipping was fast! I have a RUclips Short showing how everything came packed and how it compares to the Prime Short Bar.
Could you tell me the name of the flexible dual handle attachment you’re using? I couldn’t quite make out what you called it. Love the videos as always. Looking forward to your next one. I have a ForceUSA G3,. any interest in that style of all in one cage? I love mine.
Thank you. That’s two revolving d handles attached to two cable extenders. I don’t do a lot of bar work so the power rack portion of the machine wouldn’t get used a lot. At the moment, I’m a lot less interested in the big heavy machines that are difficult to move, assemble and disassemble.
Hi, do you have any tips/future tips for keeping the bench in the perfect place for the IM2000? When I do an incline bench press, i spend plenty of time making sure the bench is in the proper place. Sometimes the bench is off center, too far back etc. Thanks!
The D handles seem unique. Do they have bearings in them? I have debated about whether or not I should get the JDGYM EQUIPPED handles. Pricey tho. And where are the cable extenders from? Thank you so much for all of the valuable information!
The D handles came with my original Powertec Streamline Functional Trainer; they revolve, but not sure about bearings. I’ve seen the brand you’re talking about and it looks like they make some nice equipment. I got the cable extenders from Amazon and I have them linked in my Amazon affiliate store. Thanks so much!
Always love these hacks. Can you tell me if you're able to get a truly full stretch when you do pulldowns with the Levergym? Since it's becoming clearer that the stretch portion is likely the most productive, will the Levergym accomplish this? I'm about 5'8". Thanks A Lot.
Thank you!! It really depends on the length of the attachment and if you are locking your legs under the rollers. With the Prime RO-T8 Handles, no. With a straight bar, yes. There is the option to put the bench in the decline position and that will allow you to use an even longer attachment. However, the pulldown I show in this video is the only one I’ve been doing lately and I can absolutely get a full stretch.
Will I bottom out in the pully excersise, im 6'1. Also my wife is 5'2 can she use the unit comfortably? How far are the grips apart on the pressing movements. Thanks for your help, i really want it but need something every one can use. Thanks Jason
It depends on the attachment you’re using and what kind of a lat pulldown you are doing. If you’re locked directly under the roller pads and if you have the bench in the flat position…maybe. If you decline the bench for pulldowns, you should be okay. Or, if you do pulldowns like I show here, you will not bottom out because you can just position the bench farther away. The handles are 19.5” apart.
Thanks for the fast response your awesome. How far apart are the press up bars, trying to see if there to wide for my wife, how does the squat feel? I think I'm gonna get this over a rack
@@jasonconnolly3775 the bars are 19.5” apart. I never liked squatting on the Levergym until I added wedges…now, wedges make the squat feel much more effective and lower back friendly. I no longer do barbell squats, so I’m probably not the best person to ask and I no longer own a power rack…I have a different training philosophy than most…I’m definitely not saying my way of training is better than anyone else’s; rather, I’ve just found what works for me.
Great video HGHR! I don’t have a levergym, but I enjoy seeing what you come up with for it. Also, your quads must be ridiculously strong with how much you use those wedges😅
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews When you showed that, it looked approximately the same as N and H.S. For football/boxing/MMA/wrestling safety, just that movement alone makes the cost a bargain.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Or do a longer video on it: neck training options (bridges, harness, isometrics, rack attachment, Nautilus, Hammer Strength), research, Arthur Jones points about neck training, and how Levergym is better than a lot of the options, along with all the other versatility. Good for many athletes, and anyone that might be in a car crash, or spends too much time looking at screens with neck at a weird angle (so, basically every human). I'm sure Powertec would appreciate it.
Interesting video, as always. I've had this machine in the past, but I never thought of using it with that accessory with which you performed the PEC fly, even the reverse one. Is it a kit?
It’s the GymPin D Handle. I made a RUclips Short reviewing it a couple months ago. In the Short I show how it arrived and how it compares to the Prime bars.
Thank you. Those are the xii:xi squat wedges. Unfortunately, that company is no longer in business. I haven’t owned any other wedges, so I can’t confidently recommend another brand but there are a lot.
Great video, as always. Really love your content. Do you prefer doing chest flys with the gympin d-handle setup or the Ironmaster Ultimate Row Handle? Which do you find provides a fuller consistent resistance curve? I have the gympin d-handle bar and have been considering buying the Ironmaster Ultimate Row Handle after seeing it in one of your previous videos.
Thank you! They are both great. Probably the GymPin with the D Handles because with the swivels attached, there is greater freedom in movement (I can rotate my hands slightly as I pull). However, The Ultimate Row Handle has fewer moving pieces so it’s easier to set up and use.
I am using 2 cable extenders and revolving d handles. The cable extenders I’m using are linked in my Amazon affiliate store and the D Handles came with my first Powertec Streamline Functional Trainer.
Thanks so much! In my Linktree, in the description of this video, all of those things are linked in my Amazon Affiliate Store and through my GymPin Affiliate Link.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews what is the name for the cable extenders? Are they the 10 inch Mountain Ark cables on your Amazon? I wanna make sure I am ordering the right items.
Great video, I found new exercises to use my powertec. At 2:48 you use a system to turn the single pulley into a double pulley. do you have a link where i can buy this accessory? thanks in advance
Thank you! That set up has its flaws, but if you’re limited on equipment, it could get you by. All of the accessory stuff I use is in my LinkTree either in my Amazon Affiliate Store or in my GymPin link.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews Thanks for your fast answer; it seems the accessory is is the Lite D-Handle bar 30'' from GymPin; unfortunately I can't order from this vendor, which ships to US only I guess. Anyway, that gives me ideas for my workout, thanks !

I'll be buying a lever sytem to put in my garage.Had a question about the footplates for the lever system. Does it add a lot of stability in your opinion? Worth it or no? Thanks.
@@cmr1981cr I think it adds a decent amount of stability especially if you don’t weigh the machine down with plates on the storage posts. I have a review for the footplates along with an updated review for the preacher and dip all in one video if you want to check it out.
The Rogue Multi Belt. The Henny Belt Squat Belt is another option. I’ve also performed this exercise with a traditional dip belt and the Spud Inc Belt Squat Belt.
I think the height of the machine mainly comes into play for Pulldowns. If Pulldowns are done like I show in this video, user height may not be an issue. Agreed! I think it’s priced very fairly for the versatility it offers.
@@bdog98765 I should have elaborated a bit more; the Levergym cable doesn’t have the significant drop-off that is usually experienced at the top of some plate-loaded prone leg curl attachments / machines. You are correct, because the Levergym’s cable moves on a lever arm and not guide rods, it’s resistance is approximately a 2:1 for the majority of the movement but the resistance does drop off slightly when the lever arm raises to its highest position (for many exercises I don’t think this is a bad feature). However, with chains and cable extenders, I can manipulate the magnitude of the lever arm’s arc to see degree.
@ ya also the start of the movement doesnt have much resistance either Could u do a video on presses and lever arm rows using the levergym vs Multipress showcasing all the angles and what’s ur favourite
@ luckily, the starting resistance is better than something like the Titan Leg Ext where the resistance is completely flat at the beginning (although I have shown a hack how to fix the resistance profile on the Titan machine). On the other hand, the Levergym’s rear lever arm starts at a slight elevation so I think it starts with a decent amount of resistance in relation to the weight loaded on the machine. Within the last few weeks, I uploaded 2 Multipress videos and some of those exercises will carry over nicely to the Levergym.
I don’t have it bolted to the floor, but weighed down with plates on the storage posts and pulley system. Also, I have the foot plates on the Levergym, which increase stability. I say try Pendulums on the Levergym at your own risk and if you do try, start light.
Appreciate it! That’s a good testament to the Levergym if you’ve had 2 and are considering a third one. I am an affiliate for the brand, but I would love to be a sponsored “athlete.”
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews I actually had the big one the multi-gym. Loved it at first but I always felt it gave a little too much leverage. The negatives in the pressing movements were non-existent to me. I scored a used Cybex chest/shoulder adjustable press for $200 and it is awesome
Good morning! Would you say that a powertec levergym with its 300 pound weight limit on the pulley is just as good if not a better investment than a traditional selectorized lat pulldown / low row machine?
It depends. I have never and I doubt I will ever exceed the machine’s cable or lever arm capacity. If you are super strong, it may not go heavy enough for you. Before I got my second Levergym, I nearly got the Powertec Lat Pulldown Machine. However, when I started thinking about all the additional versatility of the lever arms, the Levergym just made more sense. Is, for example, the Powertec stand-alone lat pulldown better than the Levergym for cable exercises…probably. Does any lat pulldown match the versatility of the Levergym…absolutely not.
Mine is the 20” Lite. For flys, the 30” may work better, but for everything else my preference is 20”. I have a RUclips Short Review if you want to check it out.
@@johnc.6509 any time. I have a couple different sizes and sometimes use different combinations depending on the exercise. In this video I use an 8” and 10” 2x4.
Great video as always! I generally don’t do flat benching for shoulder reasons. With that being said is there a big difference between the levergym and multipress for pressing and rowing?
@@charlesvisconti4278 I think the Multipress is better for pressing and the Levergym is better for rowing. I have a review for the Multipress and in my video, “Building My Powertec Spare Bedroom Gym,” I briefly compare the two.
I’ve only used the 20” Lite. I have a feeling the 30” would be better for flys, but for every other exercise, the 20” is probably best for most people.
I got the 20” Lite D Handle. The Lite is less expensive and it doesn’t have as nice a finish as the other D Handle bar, but it certainly gets the job done.
Powertec has a European Division. I know quite a few people in the UK who have this. Hopefully, someone will see your comment and share where they got theirs.
@@djlawnboy it is, but I think (don’t hold me to it), a longer bar worked better for this exercise. However, I again want to stress that this exercise is just so-so; not nearly as good as a pec dec or functional trainer in terms of its resistance profile.
Did you have the long silver pin that connects through the back of the lever arms attached so the lever arms worked in unison when the squat bar was attached?
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews yes. when i pulled the pin to release the squat bar from the machine the pin broke and the spring inside it got completely stretched out and ruined. So I have the bar but the pin and spring is missing from it so I cant attach it
@@domingosanchez9662 sorry to hear that happened. Have you contacted Powertec? If you are the original owner and it’s under warranty they will replace the bar. They may even sell a replacement bar.
@@HomeGymHacksandReviews I’m not the original owner and I sent a message to Powertec but they didn’t respond. I checked their site and they sell almost every accessory for all their machines but they don’t sell the squat bar on their site. I love my Powertec Levergym but I need that squat bar for how I like to work my legs and I came up with a hack for weighted hip thrusts which has developed my glutes real good
It’s a little tricky: about 2:1. Because it’s a lever, the resistance isn’t as consistent as a carriage that slides on guide rods but it’s still a great cable system.
@@jaywill777 for me, I only like squatting on the Levergym with squat wedges and when in the flat position, it feels more like a decline press. I cover this in Levergym Hacks 3 and show 2 solutions…also, just a slight back pad incline makes it “feel” more like a flat press.

Awesome stuff! Thanks so much!
Hey... have you figured out how to do a safety squat on the Powertec lever Gym.
Where can I get the set up handles, attachment?
furnished my basement gym mostly powertec, some body solid, this was over 20 yrs ago, did like the brand, EXCEPT the actual bench, now it did slide back and forth, BUT I thought it was a little to high off the ground, dudes I had over to lift said about the same thing, all it needed was to be about 1,2 in. lower then would have been perfect
oh yeah my pieces were all independent from each other
Excellent !
Thank you!

Outstanding stuff. Could you show how ti get in and out of the pendulum squat setup with the wedges.
You need to watch the older Powertec videos to learn how to position the bench for bench press.

Hi, do you have any tips/future tips for keeping the bench in the perfect place for the IM2000? When I do an incline bench press, i spend plenty of time making sure the bench is in the proper place. Sometimes the bench is off center, too far back etc. Thanks!
Couple things: add a piece of tape to the floor, use chalk, and / or put the bench in the machine and drop the bar to see how it all lines up.
Great videos. I have a older version , what type of replacement wheels should I get?
@@reddragonsubliminal6440 thank you. Pulley wheels? Or bench wheels? Powertec has a section on their website to order spare parts.

Great video HGHR! I don’t have a levergym, but I enjoy seeing what you come up with for it. Also, your quads must be ridiculously strong with how much you use those wedges😅

The cable does not 7:34 have a consistent resistance unfortunately the cable is not a straight rod but a lever arm too
@@bdog98765 I should have elaborated a bit more; the Levergym cable doesn’t have the significant drop-off that is usually experienced at the top of some plate-loaded prone leg curl attachments / machines.
@ ya also the start of the movement doesnt have much resistance either
Could u do a video on presses and lever arm rows using the levergym vs Multipress showcasing all the angles and what’s ur favourite
@ thanks

did you have it bolted to the floor? I`m curious if i could do the pendulum squat variation without it being bolted to the floor, while being 6'4
I don’t have it bolted to the floor, but weighed down with plates on the storage posts and pulley system. Also, I have the foot plates on the Levergym, which increase stability. I say try Pendulums on the Levergym at your own risk and if you do try, start light.
