      I have used the blunt end of a 7mm drill bit to drive it out. It works really well. The shift rod is 1/4", or 6.5mm.

    You earned my sub! Im resealing the lower unit on my 84 25hp Evinrude. Love this motor honestly. It has tons of power. Checked my gear oil and it was full of water. Pressure test revealed bad seals . But the impeller wasn't cooling correctly so it needed to be pulled anyways.

    Hello T-Mike, I'm working on restoring a 1966 Johnson 20hp outboard motor and I'm struggling to get a stubborn bolt from the head of the motor. I wanted to do a thorough cleaning of the water passages, and make sure this motor doesn't overheat. Great videos and thanks for your help.

    I have an old 90 horse Johnson last night before going fishing today. I started it and put it in forward and reversed, and it worked great. Out on the lake today it wouldn't go in forward but would go in reverse, what happened and how do I fix it, or do you have a video

    Did you apply sealer at the prop shaft bushing where the spaghetti seal ends?
    What sealer did you use? It looked like the old Indian head sealer or permatex tar like stuff.

    I am having issues after I replaced water pump and tried to install the lower back on the motor I can shift forward.
    It shifts normal when sitting on table but the moment I connect the shift rod it messes up.
    I can tighten the lower up until there is a 3/16 of a gap before completely tight and it shifts, but I can’t tighten on the way

    Hi Mike, my td-20 has two grease seals or some folks call them gear oil seals. One is on the prop shaft plate that holds the gears in. The other one is for the drive shaft and is down 3" in the hole of the gear case. I looked into how to get it removed and the seal removal tool is not around anymore? Have you changed out this grease seal before and if so what did you use to remove it? Thanks

    What was the sealer you used on the rope type seal?

    • @gunfisher4661
      @gunfisher4661 Год назад +1

      Not sure but OMC used the rope seal up thru the 70`s , shouldn`t be hard to google it and find the OMC # for the sealer then find a modern equivalent sealer. Thats how some of guys been doing on the later models.

    For anyone watching, the trick with the tap and bolt won't work on 40hp engines. The housing is too tall to get a tap in there. There is a special tool you can buy to remove the bushing, but I just used a long punch and worked around the edges. I replaced the bushing. I'm going to use Permatex #3 aviation non hardening sealant. Also, 40hp engines have an O ring and a gasket under the bushing.
