What size is the centre bolt as none of my metric or imperial sockets fit it?
hey mike, this video was awesome, i know about the atf trick, but i thin mine with acetone to really get it to creep. i loved the punch trick, thats pretty slick! i just got a pile of outboards to keep me busy this winter so looking foward to trying them, vintage evinrudes, mont wards, idk what i even have yet, gonna make a video about it hopefully
T Mike I have a 1968 6hp outboard. I rebuilt the carb and got the motor to run. But my issue is I can't get it to idle down . I set the needle at 1.5 turns out from a lite seat. What am I missing

Thank you T-Mykes
Back in the day there were places on lakes that rented boats for the day. Those little Johnson's and evinrudes could be hauled in the trunk of your car easily. A small tackle box and a pole were all you needed for a days fishing along with a tankful of gas in the the 3 hp.
I had a carb on a motor I purchased that some turkey tried to lock tight the slow speed needle in place instead of replacing the needle packings. He plugged the small needle hole and 4 of the 6 small holes under the welch plug. It took about 2 hours to clean out all the hardened lock tight. Some people should never be allowed to touch motors.
Great job on the carb love the knowledge you give us all
As soon as i seen the pliers on the shift-rod that has an O-ring seal i knew i was WASTING my time ! Gone at 7:40... PS: 🖕
Very nice person, and knowledgeable
I have that same motor my uncle purchased new in 1952 for duck hunting up in Maryland. I have had it for around 30 years now. I did build my own electronic modules for it and replaced the points. It is an awesome running motor. He died at like 95 years old and told me that motor would outlive me also lol!!!!
thanks T, only took two licks on my 58'18hp evinrude
That is very nice
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video my family owns an original 1939 Johnson outboard 10hp very rare rope start thanks as always for your presentations cheers 😂
Pretty 😍 little beauty. !!!
Would like to see you upload a new rebuild video without all the lighting glare. It was very difficult to see detail.
Another great video Mike....so one of my outboards is a really old evinrude with the tank built in, with a little door on the back that lifts up to expose the gas fill hole.... I am thinking 24 to 1 ratio ? ??
@@chrisoconnell5727 hard to say. Need the model number.
Awsome video thank you subscribed
Thanks so much! Got my 1968 Evinrude Mate 1.5hp running again. I bought the condenser along with a whole kit which included points.
You can use a brass rod to hit on top of puller with you hammer or get a brass hammer. Brass is softer and shouldn't damage your puller. Thanks for the tips.
Watched your lower unit video and carb video on the Johnson tn-27. It was helpful in as far as it went into the works inside the leg. I had to dig deeper on my own. Everything finally came together. I had to unseize the power head ,clean the pistons, hone the cylinders, new impeller, drive shaft seal and clean the carb. It runs decent but I cannot get a real slow idle. Any suggestions?
Hi Mike. To what extent does one grease the tiller handle ,gears. And what sort of grease would one use. I’m bringing a 1967 6hp fisherman back to life. Love your videos
Thanks, Spun mine out today and you explained it perfectly. You're blessed to have a father like that.
I follow everything except what part replaces the gas hose connection at the motor, I’m not seeing how the new single line hooks to carb, 1956 Evinrude 5.5 Thanks
@@GravyTrain77 hose connects from carb to fuel pump
@@michaeljsimon thanks, I ordered the pump and 5/8 caps, do you sell just the adapter the fuel hose plugs into?

Quick question,so my current coils have a nearly flush magnet on the top but my new ones have them sticking out and seem to be rubbing the flywheel,is there a real difference between the two? Just wondering if I can use either one

Thank you, Sir!
Thank you for the trick🎉
I just picked up a 1955 Evinrude 3 hp motor. The fuel tank is integral to the top of the motor with t copper fuel line from the fuel petcocok to the carb. Is that a single line tank? Thanks!!
@@jimschaefer8798 it is a gravity fed fuel system. No fuel pump required.
T-Mike, great vid, helped alot. Couple questions... i noticed when you went to replace the large Welch plug in carb body after cleaning, you took the supplied plug from kit and I saw (briefly) you droop it into the it's hole. It looked EXTREMELY loose. The next frame shows you replacing the little plug first...then suddenly after the edit, you have a larger welch plug already sitting in the larger hole and you proceed to tap it in. First question, was that the plug supplied in your rebuil;d kit or do you have a source for the CORRECT size plugs, because my kit was exactly the same way. In fact, I had to reuse my old welch plug! Second question, I have two 9.5 Johnsons, one long, the other short shaft. One runs perfect, the long shaft only runs on choke, EVEN WITH known good carb and pump from other motor. I've gapped/cleaned it's points and swapped plugs (good spark). Checked compression (70psi-same as good motor) but no tuning I have done can make this motor run w?o choke. This long-shaft is in immaculate condition, I assume it had been restored at some point, but I am stumped why it won't run right with same fuel delivery as other good motor has. Any ideas sir?
@@RobertLooneyProject-rj9lc t-mikesvintageoutboards.com/technical-consulting/
@@michaeljsimon yeah. Figured my SECOND question would bring out some $, but I thought you could surely answer my first one for free. Just asked where you got correct Welch plug ‘cause I saw you pull the “fast one” off camera. But hey, I thought likes and subscribes helped too. No?
Answer to second question: Try changing fuel pump Good luck, T-Mike
@@michaeljsimonas stated put good known fuel pump on it. But thanks for reply. If I could beg once more you answer this: Do you have a source for proper Welch plug? From your own video I saw you had an issue with that larger Welch plug. Could you please give me an answer on that question?

I have bookmarked so many of your videos it ain't funny!
Mike is there a way to test the Koehler fuel pumps
Hey tmike, I've seen some comments that say 7/16 isn't the right size drill and tap. I'm just wondering what is the right size before I drill my engine to the wrong size

Mike i need the gold badge with the seahorse on the front. Do you have one Thanks
I fought with one of those 3 hp until sick of it. Think the tank had crap in it and kept clogged up the fuel shut off valve. I think I sold it for 50 bucks. When it ran it ran hreat but just wasn't reliable
Great instruction. Thanks Have you heard about the 14k gold test solution for cleaning hard to reach carb areas. It works great.
