    Those bings and bongs are EU legislated. I am surprised that you got them as well in Australia. All new EU spec cars will come with these ‘features’. The iPedal thing is due to range rating. It was not rated in ipedal mode, so it will not default to it at startup. Much like ice cars start in eco mode with auto stop start on, for example.

    Yes, ordered one in Finland back in August 2023. Ocean Blue Matt colour, GT-Line, 6 seater with relaxation mode (electric captains chairs). Standard side mirrors. Detachable towing hook. Everything that the importer was able to offer in Finland. We do not get a digital tiger grill (light pattern), and we do not get HDP2 (Highway Driving Pilot 2). The car should arrive by the end of November 2023 (Already in Finland).
    I was choosing between EV9, Volvo EX90, Tesla Model X, and Mercedes EQS. Couldn't find a single reason to go with anything except KIA. The first time I saw the car was during a live presentation on 31.30.2023 just to receive proof I made the right choice. Never though would go with KIA, but couldn't deny how Brand advanced!

    Hi Paul, great review. I always like how you look at the ergonomics, I think most car reviewers obsess with features and forget ergonomics. The video wing miss or is a disaster. Kia seltos has the same horrible beeps and they are enough to skip buying their cars.

    I totally agree with your comments regarding some of the so called “safety features” on this vehicle & others in the Kia/Hyundai family. My wife and I recently test drove the new Hyundai Kona, which has the same set up as the EV9. Fantastic little SUV, until the beeping & dinging starts, for the same reasons you mentioned. So you aren’t the only person annoyed by the fact you can’t switch it off once & leave it off. That was one of the reasons we didn’t purchase the vehicle.

    I was the first person at my dealership to drive the EV9 GT-Line and I noticed while driving there was condensation building behind the glass in those silly mirrors and it made the camera cloudy and relatively hard to see out of so I hope that won't be a common issue with this vehicle.

    Love the review, I was waiting on it to see if this was the car for me, but quirky things drive me insane. All other reviews do not mention any beeps at all, and it annoys me to tears. Constantly turning things off EVERY time you get into a car is so annoying and its great to see that someone else feels my paid. Technology should be for the consumer to choose ONE time. "Yes I did actually bring my key to the car and push the start button." I don't need another distracting button to press to ask me if I am alert. I would rather go into the dealerships and sign a waiver to release them of all the stupid things that I may do in the future than press another annoying button for phantom safety.

    Hi Paul, you mentioned the performance of Radar cruise control (RCC), have you thought of testing some of the safety features just to see how well the really work? I think that word be interesting to see how the car behaves. So test things like RCTA, FCTA, RCC and parking sensors and stability control. With parking sensors it would be good to see how fast they respond to detecting changes in distance. I’d imagine some systems will perform faster than others. Also maybe test the collision avoidance systems. I think it’s one thing for manufacturers to offer all these safety features which consumers pay extra for, but how well do they work. Also with ABS have you thought of testing this on a wet skid plain? So some food for thought. I’d be very interested to read your thoughts. I love these techy things, but not if they are going to do your head in. I’m glad you pointed out those things that you found annoying, good on you.

    @rogersmith5371 7 месяцев назад +3

    Every review I have seen made by Australian reviewers or overseas reviewers has been very positive about this car. I've no doubt in viewing all these reviews that it is a well put together car. It has a luxury look and feel and lots of tech as you'd expect from a car in this price range. It's a 6- or 7-seater car that weighs in at 2.6tonnes and in the top spec costs $130K. My question is given the average size of an Australian household is 2.59 people (let's round it to 3) who needs a 6- or 7-seater and why? Kia have had a lot of success making cars that people can afford and will buy in big numbers. They appear to be leaving that market (which is their right, but we can expect and have already seen those Chinese makers of ICEV and EVs will move into that space) in the hope that those who have $130K to plonk down on a new SUV will go electric and will opt for a Kia over a Euro badged brand. That's a big gamble. This is a big vehicle in every respect but I'm not sure how many of the Land Cruiser brigade who go off roading will opt for this given the much more limited range (compared to a 100litre diesel tank) the risk of water inundation on the batteries as the vehicle takes on the dirt tracks and creeks is a concern. Again, given the weight of the vehicle the rated towing capacity would well and truly reduce the range. In my view at the moment the market for EVs is the second family car that can be used as the daily run around for the park and ride, the school run, the shopping and the gym and you'd never run out of charge. It could then be plugged in overnight at the power point and be ready for the sports run on Saturday. The family still has the ICE vehicle to do the road trip or weekend away. The ORA, MG Excite and even the BYD models might fill that role. A $130K vehicle is not in that category. Despite all that I've said (which is just my own opinion based on all the reviews I've seen) Kia will probably sell all the stock that has been allocated to Australia.

      People may need one if they wish to tow any van bigger than about 1.6 tonnes. This would be regardless of passenger numbers.

    Saw exactly this car at Sydney airport & looks impressive. Liked the minimalist approach but the positioning of USB points away from the centre console seems odd but when wireless mirroring that may not be an issue. Lack of a centre console in a car this size is bizarre. My biggest disappointment is the dash. It’s the same double screen setup you can get in a Kona at a third of the price & has always looked like a failed high school project to me. The towing capacity will be a plus to some.

My family live a few hours away from me, so I love to have a car that will give me around 600km of range, yet almost no electric car currently on the market can do this at this point in time.     Regarding the warnings and stuff on by default;
    I own a Hyundai Tucson (current model Highlander) so many of the same systems and software as Kia, and the lane keep assist is always on by default whenever the car turns on. Beeps if I get within ~30cm of the white lines and has a slight adjustment to the steering.
    I’ve been told this is because why safety feature that contributes to the ANCAP rating needs to be on by default whenever a car starts. So if my LKA or the EV9’s concentration warning and speed limit alerts help Kia get a higher rating for that car, then they will always be on whenever the car turns on.
    Luckily for me I can turn my lane keep beep off by holding a steering wheel button for a few seconds, but that procedure in the EV9 would be a nightmare.

    • @lamborghini0610
      @lamborghini0610 7 месяцев назад

      There are certain requirements for ANCAP however the latest Kia and Hyundai models come with constant speed limit beeping which is not a requirement. Other car manufacturers will simply flash a speed limit sign on the instrument cluster, beeping is not a requirement.

    Hi Car Expert. Question. Is there a chance that you could do a head to head of the base model MG4 and BYD Dolphin. I work for an organisation that is transitioning to EV's and I could really do with that comparison.

    So it’s really aimed at the average family isn’t it at that kind of costing 😳
    So it’s huge, heavy, resource hungry (manufacturing) and will be heavy on tires and road infrastructure. I’m not anti ev…there’s a few I wouldn’t say no to, but ‘environmental’ they are not, practical as an ONLY car they are not.
    I’m
    Wondering how long until average Joe realises it’s a fashion accessory you’re been told you just can’t live without. Prices are crashing world wide for a reason.
    I’m NOT saying petrol is the way, but we’re really becoming size queens and excess consumption aren’t we when it comes to cars in general

  • @metalmick99
    @metalmick99 7 месяцев назад

    Both disappointed and excited about the EV9, and all at the same time. I thought those little wing not-mirror screens looked like they'd been picked-up from Super Cheap Auto, and in this day and age, obscured instruments/displays are unforgivable flaws. The rearmost seats are a disgrace, and it's tiresome to constantly see that they will not admit anyone with legs to be comfortable. I'm 175cm short, and I've seen 14-year-olds tower above me; even my 5 year-old granddaughter wouldn't find that row comfortable. (Kudos though, Paul, for you showing that brief clip of you inside - no need to see your contortions to get there.) The excitement comes from how competent it seems to be in many other areas, and that it can outbrake many other cars and lumbering behemoth utes by a huge margin. Disappointment though, at the apparent range the EV9 has.

    So since the maximum speed in Australia is 130km/h then it means any vehicle will do there?.,what i mean is whats the point of having a "faster" car/vehicle?.an average car/vehicle can do the maximum speed so having a faster one is just for bragging rights & novelty.😂😅

    Just wondering - with the deletion of the side mirror to improve aero there’s still a protruding object there - and the car is using more battery powering said screen, plus all that charging, plus the electrically adjustable seats etc.
    surely all that outweighs any scientific benefit of range.

    • @JoseMariArceta
      @JoseMariArceta 7 месяцев назад +1

      You would be amazed how low power fixed function hardware for video and image processing could be vs having a constant strain on aerodynamic by just existing as a large mirror.
