    I have invested 80 hours in this game since launch, and I haven't not experienced one crash, glitch, or bug...

      Good for you but you dont represent everyone there's been many reports of bugs in the game the one I've gotten is the frame rate drop shit gets annoying when your trying to be stealthy

    • @Maetiks
      @Maetiks 9 лет назад +29

      Yea, I understand that others may have had issues with glitches and freezing, but I too have put close to 50 hours and never experienced a freeze or any glitch of any kind.
      I don't say this as a brag or something, I just want people who are interested in buying this game to know that it is not as common an issue as this video would lead you to believe...

      +Daniel Faliszewski If you want to get a crash play the mission "Traitor's Caravan", deploy with an ZHUK IFV and start knowing down electricity poles on by one by speeding through them. The game crashed many times for me when I did this.

    You had me with the intelligent A.I, thats always a important facet to me. If the enemies are dumb or have tunnel vision, it kinda ruins the immersion and skill factor, because you're just exploiting the limitations. Too bad about the open world aspect kinda being pointless. It would have been better to just build massive sandboxes of different locations.

    • @shady1237
      @shady1237 9 лет назад +23

      +TheDalinkwent You probably won't reply, but the AI is literally the difficulty scale. As you do more headshots, more helmets will appear, more kills? Body armor starts to appear. Sneak during night a lot? NVGs will be more popular.

    • @TheDalinkwent
      @TheDalinkwent 9 лет назад +21

      shady1237 That kicks ass. It forces you to try different approaches to have a better grasp of all of the mechanics. Many times gamers find a strategy or exploit and stick to it.

    • @shady1237
      @shady1237 9 лет назад +2

      TheDalinkwent Yeah. I remember a yotuber bitching on how the game was "too easy" but most likely used his motherbase team to reduce the difficulty. Another thing you can do as well, unless you want it to be harder.

    • @desfefe
      @desfefe 9 лет назад +10

      +TheDalinkwent
      Well you can disable reflex, target markings and all those aids, to make the game unforgiving. You will be constantly on the edge, and strategists will always be the ones to succeed.
      Also, if you have a clear strategy in mind, then you are always gonna get stuck. The true stealth master adapts to the environment.

    I thought Troy Baker as Ocelot is fantastic. Like, I can easily hear both his young self and his MGS1 self developing out of it.

    • @solidcrock0133
      @solidcrock0133 9 лет назад +1

      +Dan M its good voice acting for troy baker but the way he delivers feels boring a dull (at least for me) snake a Kaz were propbaly the best at their performance they were alive with enthusiasm.

    • @lozerisdead999
      @lozerisdead999 9 лет назад +2

      +Dan M To be fair most characters in the MGS series come off with Anime Vibes. so sutherland was a really nice change of pace. But seriously, listen to ANY MGS voice acting and they all come off as very anime. And like someone said it's really good voice acting because it really sounds like the transition into when Ocelot is in games like MGS1 and 2. Came off really well in my opinion.

    • @divinedbag
      @divinedbag 9 лет назад +2

      +Tom Maxey (Solidcrock013) I think the problem is more with the writing than the voice. Ocelot is pretty well-written in this game, he's just written completely differently than the crazy wildcard we're used to. I think he would've been much better as a whole new character instead.

    • @solidcrock0133
      @solidcrock0133 9 лет назад +1

      +Erik Brown yeah sure he's a different character in this game but more or likely in some moments of the game his voice sounds boring a dull (propably through radio calls) besides the way he was written as a character as well but what can I say * huge spoilers for others*, he isn't talking to the real big boss (phantom medic) so he might interact differently since he's using him to help the real big boss make outer heaven deep undercover and also how he shows a fond relationship with naked snake during the last 2 decades.

    I disagree with pretty much all of your negatives and you're usually spot on for me. 50 hours in and the game has never crashed on my PS4, constant 60 fps, the textures on the enemies look fantastic, the open world is perfectly designed for tactical stealth gameplay plus there are always side ops to do. You can tackle the side ops in a variety of different stealth tactics so it is never repetitive. Troy baker is awesome, Afghanistan doesn't feel empty, it feels like a soviet controlled desert with expertly designed, tactical outposts for you to take down in a variety of ways...like it's supposed to feel. This is MGS, not GTA or Skyrim. Saying the open world is barren and boring is just missing the point of what the story and situation is. This is essentially a warzone, not a lush sprawling fantasy world or a busy, sprawling city with bank heists. This is open world stealth at its finest, Kojima's magnum opus and a 10/10 for me. But hey this is the only time I've disagreed with ACG.

    As a fan of MGS series, I admit that the world is a little empty and small,

    I really found it one of the best games of all time.

  • @toolshedvideo
    @toolshedvideo 8 лет назад +31

    The sheer grind of the side missions killed the game for me. I had to tap out at around 70 hours. Gameplay just got way too repetitive, and I have no issue with long games. MGSV made me walk away disappointed.

    • @hannayman4448
      @hannayman4448 7 лет назад +8

      toolshedvideo yeah totally get you. Only MGS game I got bored with & now I can't stand it, any time I think about it. The gameplay was awesome but the repetitiveness of mission structure & the sparseness of the story killed it for me. Also, structure of the game was terrible, the decision to have Snake mute was baffling considering the got Keifer Sutherland to be the voice, why did they bother? I know there's the cassette tapes but to not say ANYTHING in cutscenes when you're the revered leader of the group was just confusing. Not enough Skull Face he could have been interesting. Just reminded me, structure - best mission of the game WAS No 30, why? You actually stealthily infiltrated a fortress, that's why! It's what MGS games were all about. I've ranted enough. Sorry. I gave up after 120hrs, gt stuck trying to save Quiet. I felt relieved to stop & do something else lol. *breathe out*

    For me, this is easily the best stealth game I've ever played (I've played every other metal gear, every splinter cell, every hitman, every deus ex, every thief, and Death To Spies 2).
    I don't really see the complaint about the open world--the game is in soviet occupied Afghanistan, I didn't really expect a lot to be going on aside from soldier patrols and random animals.
    I also haven't experienced a single crash, so I'm lucky there.
    The game is very challenging if you're going for perfect stealth S-ranks...
    I haven't seen any bugs like the floating animals or clipping mentioned here. I downloaded from The PS Store so maybe that's why? Idk but the game has functioned flawlessly for me. This is a 10/10 game for me.

    • @mcguffindoe192

      I was just adding to my first point.
      I know you mentioned how good the AI was but when you critiqued going back to a base you emptied, you didn't mention how returning to those bases presented new challenges like helments and NVGs on enemy soldiers.
      I liked your review but I was surprised at the omission of that, in my estimation, important fact.

    Disclaimer: I highly respect you and and value your opinion.
    I get the impression that you didn't really "get" this game. This "open world" wasn't meant to be like GTA or something like that. The fact that it's barren is not a problem. The open world is just several bases connected by open areas and streets which are littered with small outposts. It's just there as a means to provide you with a place for tactical espionage and free infiltration.
    Most problems you mentioned aren't a problem at all TO ME. The only thing I don't like is the fact that you cannot order your helicopter to pick you up, then fly you over to a different drop point on the same map.
    Another problem is the lack of cutscenes and the cut content.
    All in all, the game is absolutely stellar and one of the best I have ever played in my life. It could've been better though, and the story should've flowed better.
    Btw, Big Boss never walked on a missile. That was Solid Snake in MGS1 The Twin Snakes, the MGS1 remake for the Gamecue which was totally hilarious because the cutscenes were so over the top. Snake never walked on a missile in the original, but in Twin Snakes he does a backflip on a flying missile.

  • @RevanStarrrR

    The emptiness of the world didn't really bother me because unlike most open world games, the purpose of this open world is not to give you a world to explore or massive amounts of markers to chase on the map. The purpose is to give the player a massive amount of tactical freedom.
    Also, returning to ACC from the pause menu technically means fultoning yourself. You can sometimes even hear a fulton sound when you do that.

  • @IMindiffernt
    @IMindiffernt 8 лет назад +33

    I really wanted to love this game, but in the end I couldn't get over the overwhelming repetitiveness of almost every aspect of the gameplay. That combined with the fact that you are often penalized for using lethal force despite hundreds of different machine guns, rocket launcher, pistols, grenade launchers, and sniper rifles available, made the entire world too restrictive for my tastes.

    • @RogueDragon05
      @RogueDragon05 8 лет назад +3

      How are you under the impression that your punished for using lethel force? sure you get a very minute point deduction but that can easily be compensated for, in fact often times going in guns blazing with the chopper grabbing a prisoner throwing them onboard and murdering everyone else on your extract is the easiest way to get the S rank. The only "punishment" is that you can't staff your Mother Base with corpses but you can always find others to extract. I'm really confused how you could think your "punished" for using lethel force.

      I get A's and S's when I go loud. Only aim for the head, do tactical take downs. I meticulously kill everyone and hunt everyone down and still get a good rating at the end of it all. Just dont get shot or restart the mission

  • @vicriv8282

    A very solid and fair review. I would say this though; there is a way to fulton yourself directly back to mother base but the game doesn' really tell you. If you quickly jump in a vehicle or cargo can right after you slap on the fulton, you will get sent back to base. Additionally, if you discover the cargo delivery manifest document in any of the larger enemy bases, you can then use the bases as fast travel locations. Also, destroying enemy anti air radar will unlock new location options for helicopter pick up and drop off. These features help reduce boring trekking in the open world.

      necropig yea in that case it's pretty lame, happened to me during a sandstorm i horse-jumped into the dry river bed and died while chasing the last enemy.. but if we could manually save every time we advance, that would be way too easy for a stealth game! going back to a checkpoint you can also completely change the strategy if you want.

      +Redjohn Kragle seeing and doing things are two different things bud. you can only be amazed by how the same rock you've passed 4 times looks pretty accurate to real life rocks for a little bit before you get bored and realize how repetitive the game rlly is.

    • @SpeCifiC0507
      @SpeCifiC0507 9 лет назад +10

      +Redjohn Kragle The game as far as world structure is severely lacking, no two ways about it. The animals and environmental features is only a slight amazement for the first few hours. You can only be so amazed by the same Animal, rock, or piece of vegetation for a while until the amazement turns into a question of whether or not it was simple copy and paste. The world may be "open" but open for what? For the few select animals, guards and rock formations.
      You cannot say you disagree on the hard crashes and then say you've encountered them. That's a contradictory statement. A hard crash is a hard crash and if they exist, then that is a serious problem, a problem regardless of whom you are find to be annoying and an immersion killer.
      The game, however; is a great game, no questioning that but no game is perfect and this one isn't an exception and it definitely has a few flaws here and there, but the positives outweigh the negatives (depending on who you are). It's a buy, but I would say only a buy for those who have played previous MGS games.

I don't give a shit about any of that. This game delivers MGS gameplay in a way where you can tackle objectives anyways you want...what else do you want from a MGS game?? If your looking for a vibrant world your in the wrong game...Try looking for one that doesn't take place in a warzone and I'm sure you'll find all the pointless "go here, get this" gameplay that is the filler crutch for SO many open world games.

    As far as extracting yourself, you can Fulton a vehicle with you inside and or Fulton a container with you on top. Both send you flying back to motherbase. As far as exfiltrating the hot zones, you really only have to run away a short distance. I personally don't find difficulty or frustration in leaving or traveling. It takes experience.
    Bugs, I've experienced two. One was a soldier levitating, the other was a silencer levitating. No audio bugs. I think this is all going to apply to the individual. I too feel the AI faces were a bit weird at times when scoping them during reflex mode but it didn't bother me much.
    As for the open world with nothing to do, there are story elements which explain the absence of civilization and one obvious reason would be a potentially world dominating organization like Cipher lining the pockets of both the Soviet and African forces. Everything has either been destroyed or occupied. People were all harvested for the parasitic objective, so, yeah.
    I also found the mission versatility in every way more than enough to compensate for the repetitive nature of deployment. The AI is far too smart to allow one to simply approach any mission the same way too often.
    As for fun, its an overload. I'm roughly 150 hours in, mission 33, 82/157 side-ops, 50% complete. This game has completely stolen the show for me until Fallout 4 comes out. Far better visually and technically than The Witcher 3 which I see as being its only competition. GOTY at least by some standards. If not I'll be extremely surprised.

      I think the fulton thing is fine for everything else. As for yourself, I think it might take away from the challenge. It's almost too easy to use the balloon in almost all cases. That's probably why you have to either completely vacate a hot zone and or escape to an LZ. Just my thought is all.

      I get it. And it is a sensible point to touch on whilst reviewing the game considering that the Fulton extraction is such an important aspect. You should be able to extract yourself, maybe with an added element of challenge. Like a countdown of sorts while enemy combatants bombard you. That might be a really cool detail.

    • @gohan440
      @gohan440 9 лет назад

      +Alan Clusan Having story elements explain why the game world is empty feels like a cop-out. The game took years to make, and they couldn't come up with a use for their open world besides collecting plants, animals, and diamonds? If there is nobody left to fight, why defend the bases at all? This is a warzone after all, so where's the war? Konami made an excellent AI that could've been put to use with open conflicts that you could encounter and actual base activity that involves more than one truck arriving, two soldiers getting out, getting back in, and one truck leaving. It's such a waste.

    I have to say that I feel like the "barrenness" of the world is to be expected. People nowadays want a bijillion side activities and quests when they hear "open world" but the way the open world in MGS V is set up makes sense. EVERYTHING you do goes back to motherbase. Every objective, side mission, outpost raid all benefits motherbase which in turn benefits you. I loved that and it makes sense. This isn't an open world where you're supposed to go for a drink, play Gwent, or go bowling (uuuuggggggghhh fucking Roman). The way it's set up makes sense to me. Snake wouldn't be dicking around, he'd basically be going hard at it. The lack of too many side activities is a plus for me. They didn't waste time with useless activities. Everything you do helps progress the game and that is genius and something that a lot of open world games do not do well but MGS V nailed it.

    Part of me agrees that the open world is kind of sparse, but then part of me considers the notion that Hey This is Afghanistan! Even in real life there is next to nothing out there except soldiers and a bunch of random wildlife. So for me it passes. I dunno, maybe they could have included some civilians walking around like the traders in Fallout 3.

    • @ACGreviews

      I think my one big problem with the sand box is that when the game was linear you had a much greater variety of locations to explore. I know this isn't MGS, but I've been playing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, and in that you go from New York to Hong Kong to all kinds of places. The only thing that openness brings to a covert espionage game is ability to choose my attack point. Which I do like. But I also miss the grandiose feeling of a game expanding over several exotic locations, which I guess a sandbox game could do, but it would be ridiculous to create. Maybe some kind of middle could be struck? Sandbox still, but smaller, and combined with a myriad of closed levels in differing locals. Eh, I dunno. I do like MGS 5, but I get what people mean by the change in game play.

    Empty and boring world, repetition, missing codec, no sence of humor, story lacking a 'driving force', generic soundtrack you can find in every modern by-the-numbers FPS games. Because of that V doesn´t feel as a regular MGS game, magic just is not there. It mostly resembles a mixture of Far Cry 2, old Splinter Cells and Peace Walker. While not a bad game by any means, V feels very weak and passionless compared to Snake Eater and Sons of Liberty.

    I totally agree with the comment about Troy Baker and Nolan North kinda hogging all the voice acting for video games, granted they are very experienced and professional voice actors and still haven't seen one unconvincing performance from either of them, but you are completely correct and I think game studios need to open up more to new voice actors for video games, like the voice actor for Ronan O'Connor in Murdered: Soul Suspect!
    Amazing voice acting from that guy but I never hear about him anymore after that outstanding performance!

      Most of chapter 2 was just the same missions from chapter 1, except more difficult. Mission 51 (closure to Eli's story arc) was completely cut, and so was chapter 3. All we have left of chapter 3 is the bloody title card. I feel like Konazi rushed Kojima to reach the deadline.

    I honestly love the story off MGS 5, and i think it's one off the best in the series, or at least one off the most interesting. But i understand why most "HARDCORE, i've been playing the series, since they were 3 years old, MGS fans" didn't love it, or the game in general. Which is actually pretty sad, because the game was honestly Great, but was pretty different from the others, so the hardcore fans didn't like it. (That's Understable) But i feel like just because it's different doesn't mean it was "Bad"
    I can easily agree that the game isn't perfect by any means, heck it was never finished, but if anything people should probably appreciate the story, or the cutscenes more. There was just a lot off visual storytelling, which i guess a lot went over people's heads or something, plus a lot off small little details on character face's, or in the music. And the idea of less cutscenes in the game, (a "Less is more" style) made me remember or appreciate the ones we got even more.
    I do understand why people think it's the "weakest" story in the series, mostly if you didn't listen to the cassette tapes that help flesh out the story. But i personality loved it's more serious and realistic tone, instead off a more sillier/serious type like the others. (also the boss fight's were Epic as hell and not wired/stupid like most MG boss fights are) Plus the game had tones off customization, and has the best game-play I've play in a MGS game, and looked great. Also IDk if things have changed over the years, and more fan are now more open to TPP or maybe more people dislike it. But i honestly will always love MGS 5, for it's main story and the crazy war stories i got from playing it. But mostly as the game that introducing me into a great series, which it did for SO many others as well. Over all TPP does have problems but i do think it's worthy off the "Metal Gear Solid" name. (and of course this is my opinion)

    To anyone who is on the fence about buying MGSV: TPP it is a for sure a buy. This was my first metal gear game I ever played and it's pretty damn good (i looked up the metal gear time line and back story before I played, it helps to understand the story and characters). As of now the pc version is 99% bug free. A part of the online play is also working it's called Forward Operating Base which you raid other players for resources and recruits. As for gameplay top notch for a stealth game because the A.I. has to be very competent which it is in this game. For example if you headshot a lot, soldiers start wearing helmets which prevent one hit to the dome. Like the review states, soldiers pretty much have the same vision as an actual human and behave like one. They come to investigate sounds/sightings, they notice if a friendly is down, they even fire in your general direction if you are sniping from a distance and they manage to get a direction of where you are. The open world element i found to be good not GTA status but good, it's not as empty as one would think though with many animals and people who want to kill you. Music is great, story is above average but not the best, graphics/physics are top notch (pc version), characters get the job done, they really could have put more context to Quiet though I didn't get as attached to her as other female supports in other games at least not as much as Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite, just an opinion. I would give the game a solid 8/10 with 5/10 being an average game like the Call of Duty franchise, again just an opinion. Also side note, lots of unlockables, customization, missions, and side ops. I've been playing for 50 hours and only 53% done, haven't even replayed missions or attempted to complete with an S rank. UI is fantastic, Buddy system is very unique and the way everything flows together is outstanding. Well worth $60. The amount of detail put into the game is very noticeable.

    Looking at this game two years later, it did not age well, it spoilt like milk. The game box is the grave marker of Kojima's hubris. It couldn't have died soon enough, or gracefully for that matter. Looking forward to Metal Gear Survive.

    I have literally not gotten a single technical issue you mentioned except one guy got caught inbetween rocks in Africa and kept spinning in circles.
    I agree with the emptiness of the land, but I think it adds to the realism. I think people try and look at other open world games and try to set a standard on "Content Value". I enjoy the hump needed to travel 1500m to my objective, but that's me. This isn't GTA or Assassins Creed. MGS is a story driven game and doesn't pretend not to be.
    We haven't even seen the online portion of the game yet, so I'm not worried at all about it being repetitive.
    Good Review though.

    Ive been a fan of the series all since 1998, and Phantom Pain is the only one that i can say its boring as hell.The Good- enemy's AI is awesome as they are unpredictable and have a long aye site making it more challenging. The Bad- the game is super repetitive, the world feels empty and the story line sucks.One of the things that made metal gear so popular was that it had a lot of cut scenes making you feel like you are in a movie( this one don't), also the boss battles where also super exciting. In the phantom pain i have 25 hours played and i haven't encounter a Boss battle yet other then every time i see the Zombie guys or metal gear i have to run away. I've only enjoy the firs mission escaping from the hospital. I'm not saying its a bad game but its not that 10 out of 10 all those websites are giving it.

      +Leandro c (lean305) I never played the previous MG games and i can see where you are coming from. I have watched the cutscenes movies and funny moments in MGS 1-4 before MGSPP is released hoping that TPP is going be as good as those , but i was really disappointed.
      Bigboss dosen't talk as much as before and they didn't implement the random codec calls discussing random stuff which made me LOL at times. And those crazy ass battles like psycho mantis , there wasn't any of those which is a shame.

    • @Saladinos
      @Saladinos 9 лет назад +1

      +Leandro c (lean305) Repetitive when you can play a mission like 5 or 6 different ways including different play style (stealth or guns n' blazing), with variable arsenal to choose from, buddy system and factors like weather or day-night cycle? Can't you just be creative not even a little? Also, an open world with RPG elements in an infiltration simulator would be totally pointless and useless. An empty open world is exactly what the game needs because it's not an RPG! That's what most people miss. As for the story, that's completely subjective so i respect your opinion. But that's what happens when people are crying about the lengthy cutscenes of the previous installments. That's why you have that complaint. One last thing is that it didn't receive only 10s from every website but 9s as well! The same like the big names GTAV and the witcher 3. Even the scores are subjective but when a game receives highly positive scores and reviews from the majority then is considered a pretty good to a near perfect game!

    • @lean3305
      @lean3305 9 лет назад +1

      +Chris Redfield .Been able to approach missions in different ways is not an excuse, the missions it self are repetitive. It's all about extract that guy or kill that guy, on chapter 2 are the same exact missions just harder. Isn't that repetitive? don't be blind. The game its really good, the mechanics are on point and it's the hardest metal gear so far. It's true that liking the story is a personal opinion but man, a parasite that kills because the language you speak? that is the lamest story ever. Snake never speaks, on any of the metal gears snake its always talking back and forward on the radio and i get it, Kiefer Sutherland should have been expensive as hell. But if you are going to hire the guy to speak 3 lines, don''t hire him at all then.

    • @Saladinos
      @Saladinos 9 лет назад +1

      Leandro c That's just only you... You just belong to the minority that don't like the game. For me and even the majority none of these are problems. I can be creative enough so that i can find new things every time and enjoy the game! That's the important thing in this game, to be "creative"... If someone is not creative by nature then he will find it boring for sure.

      +iwanfishz9 one of the obscure/subtle story reasons why Big Boss doesn't talk that much in Phantom Pain is because he barely says anything in Metal Gear (NOT Metal Gear Solid), which is chronologically set right after the final cutscene in Phantom Pain.

      +AngryCentaurGaming On Very High? Sorry I couldn't tell by watching the video that you played the PC version. 1:50/2:00/3:21/ I guess you didn't make it clear that you played it on PC. As for Vaseline that's probably depth of field which can be disabled. I have it on due to preference (Looks damn good in the Phantom Pain.) but I have motion blur off. Having played it on PC the bugs you mentioned never seemed to happen to me. As for performance am running it four resolutions higher than 1080p with the settings maxed out at 60 or 70 fps at any given time. One issue the PC version has that I noticed is that unlike the console version the particle effects cause slowdown when Quiet runs past you or you are lifting a crate etc. 5:41/6:04 looks like the console version. I haven't had any super noticeable pop in on the PC version. 6:56 is the smoking gun to me that has me convinced you played on console. If you were on PC it wouldn't give a console prompt unless you plugged in a controller.
