    Well I learned two useful things on that video. 1) The gasket spray - very useful. 2) The method of putting the belt on - ingenious! Thanks for making the video.

    as you take the bolts out, put them in your new water pump so you keep track of the size and position. when you get the old pump out, transfer the bolts from the new one to the old one.

    Great video. Especially the part about putting the new belt back on. I myself since I have large hands would have removed the battery in order to give myself that much more room to work with, even if it's just an inch or two.

    Car overheated, found my water-pump belt had broke and water-pump seized. Followed this exact video for my 2005 Mazda MPV and works perfect. Great video, thank you for posting it. Easiest water-pump I ever replaced.

    Book time is what MOST shops use to determine the charge for time on any job. It is based loosely on warranty time from the manufacture. As for the water pump design, this is a FORD, but they have reduce weight to increase fuel economy as per CAFE (corporate average fuel economy ratings) set by the government. The use of aluminum is a no brainer, but the plastic impeller is injection molded onto a knurled metal ring. The raised knurling allows the plastic to grab onto, but thru thousands of thermal cycles can fracture. The pump makes no or little noise, but the impeller does not spin. This is a circulation pump, so if the temp gauge so warm to hot, heater & fan on, no heating plus a complaint of overheating every time it's driven, this too can be the issue. Still requires the pump to be changed, but some brands may press a stamped steel impeller on the shaft instead of plastic. Some sell the entire housing, but is not needed. I would most likely purchase the metal one. Either way you look at it, it a FORD with a Mazda badge.

    I once worked on a machine that had a belt between two pulleys and no tensioner. I didn't have a replacement belt, so I installed the pump with the belt already around the pulley. It was tough, but I got it done...eventually.

  • @mss829
    @mss829 13 лет назад +2

    Well done guys, I guess if you really didn't want to cut the belt, it could be taken off by the same cranking procedure as installing it, if you're short on cash maybe.

  • @angelf9800
    @angelf9800 6 лет назад +3

    You don’t have to cut the belt just remove the bolts from the water pump housing so it can be lose enough to Remove the belt

    •  Месяц назад

      And add the belt before tightening the screws negate the need for starter hack to stretch the belt over.

    If you got a 2002 LX model, there is a tensioner. All you gotta do is push the tensioner out of the way enough to slip the belt on. Otherwise, it is pretty much a similar process.

This was the first time I have ever seen a car that requires the belt to be cut.. and re-install requires cranking the engine.. Watch those fingers !!! - Thank you.

    This reminds me of replacing a fan belt on an air cooled VW engine. You remove and replace it with the engine running. Otherwise it is a long drawn out procedure of loosing and moving the generator and fan assembly, much easier to do it with engine running.

    Since is so tight it will be hard to pull it out.
    U can always stuck a very tiny piece of plastic int the pulley grove so when it turns the belt will be higher than the groove and start pulling from there with the cranking system, still needs to be a very tiny piece in order to not stretch the belt

    @chopywatersofmantuki He said the procedure is to cut the old belt off. The old belt was slipping and moving around its probably worn. How do you know the belt was good? Were you there? What do you define as a perfectly good belt? It makes more sense to spend a few bucks and replace the belt when you replace the water pump and be done with it.

    Question. My 2000 Mazda mpv ran hot today .Upon checking it, the upper hose insert was broken and had to improvise to connect both hoses. Barely made it home several miles away. How do I know if it's a thermostat or water pump issue ?? Your experience is appreciated.

    Hi,
    I have the same car.
    And I have a small oil leak around the bottom of the water pump. Where could that be coming from?
    May not be the water pump but there is engine oil on the bottom most bolt on the water pump.
    Thx.

    • @trevortrillion6037
      @trevortrillion6037 6 лет назад

      He wanted to "bump the engine" using the ignition key. Turning the large pulley just an inch at a time. The relay was removed to PREVENT the engine starting, spinning the pulley full speed = dangerously.
