Did someone resurrect this MPV from the sea? It looks like the Titanic wreckage divers found an MPV laying next to it. What a find! God bless living in Phoenix, AZ. I said goodbye to rust 30 years ago.
I have this car too and Mazda dealer told me that both control arms had to be replaced at $850 to pass inspection. So according to this video, if the ball joints has grease fittings, the control arms would have lasted mush longer provided they were greased at each inspection. Even if the ball joints were designed so that they don't need to be welded, I'd still save myself a bundle by just buying the ball joints. My car only has 110,000 even though it's badly rusted. Still, I could have gotten another year out it, maybe two.
I'm doing this exact job today. What are those bolts' torque settings after I put the weight of the van on them? I bought both sides control arms a year ago... Lazy. WARNING: I bought new Lower Control Arms on eBay and they were 1/4 inch shorter than the original arms; (between front bushing front edge and rear bushing inside diameter)... WILL NOT go on at all. A complete waste of time. Gonna re-install the old arm with good joint, and replace the rotted, rubber boot. (the boot off my eBay garbage)
thanks for the video have done one side of my MPV but the reinstall for the control arm was a real S--t any hints or video of the reinstall of the arm .
I've changed lower ball joints with the control arm of my Mazda 3 2004. But now I've noticed that steering control is not good, so stiff, no flexibility and very dangerous. Any idea what would be the reason and how can I fix it again?
The reason I ask is because while replacing the control arm on my Mazda mpv, I noticed that the threads on that same bolt are gone and now the nut won’t stay on… I will need to replace that bolt but I can’t seem to access it… where does it unscrew from?
Why with the weight of the vehicle on it or a load on it should they be torqued. Can I put my van on jackstands and loosen the bolts up a little then put a load on vehicle or lower to ground and torque then? How come the Mazda Master Manual doesn't say this or all data ughhh. I've heard this before and just installed some but went by the book and didn't put weight of vehicle on then torque. I've heard it will wear the bushings out sooner. I had my steering knuckle off so to put up there there the front back nut and three bolts I tightened most the way so it was all the way up than put the other side in. It was pretty much up after that I torqued them and put ball joint into knuckle and I had to pull it down hard to get the ball joint in. Help I'd like to know why you do it this way. Thanks
On this Mazda type control arm it probably doesn't make much difference if any. Just a practice we got into with the older type control arms. I think I read it in a GM manual somewhere.
Good video. My MPV failed inspection and the Ball Joint was one of the issues. Control arm w/ball joint is $214.00 at NAPA, $60.79 at Rock Auto.

That long bolt that you called “the back bushing bolt” - is it replaceable or welded to the frame of the car?
@oldsmob455
It unscrews

@@sheknows3608 I'm not sure what you are referring to but possibly it's a bolt that threads into a caged or welded nut?

Could I just loosen the front bolt when on ground and re torque? Thanks, Help Needed :)

What size socket is it for the bolt
Is this the same as 2006 mazda 5?
Does anyone know the thread and bolt size of the 3 smaller bolts takin off of the bracket?? I need help..
Shitfire!
Poor design.
Car companies don't care anymore. There's tons of money to be made with replacement parts.
