I’m with you. Every time I’d ask someone which FF was their favorite they would never say this one though! And there was something about US / JPN Final Fantasy’s being numbered differently so I was always confused. For instance, was this considered FF3??
Same here. This was the first ever RPG I played, and I absolutely loved it. It made me wanna try other RPG games, like Mana, Gaia, FF3, and eventually FF7, which I absolutely loved. Thank you so much for the upload.
Man this brings back so many childhood memories. I remember playing this when I was 13 years old. Took me a whole year to beat this game. Playing off and on at my stepmoms house on the weekends. Good times. 👍
Oh man! I just started watching this and had to replay the title screen piece at least 10 times. Just hearing that soft melody again was radical. I loved this game as a sophomore in HS back in 93. Playing through and being sure to include my friends as the characters in the game. One of the original games I purchased with my SNES as well. Thanks a bunch for posting. Going to watch both parts on my big screen. I know I will enjoy it for sure.
Memories of Summer 1994. I had just turned 17 in July, and I had just gotten into RPGs with Lunar: The Silver Star for Sega CD, which I got for my birthday that year. A good friend of mine who was really into RPGs started talking to me about this game, but I didn't know if I wanted to try it or not. I decided to pick up Secret of Mana instead, which became my first Squaresoft game, and which I loved just as much as Lunar. After playing Mana, I decided to give this game a try, and asked my friend if I could borrow it. When he lent it to me, it was yet another magical experience, the kind of game that you knew was going to be great as soon as you pushed the Start button. I pretty much spent that whole summer playing those 3 RPGs (and having friends over to play Mana with me), and it's still one of my favorite summer vacation memories.
Lunar, it's in my list to play soon. If only someone out there would make a ROM Hack of Phantasy Star 2 in order to simplify the dungeon designs. That game has great combat system, items and world map, what detracts from it is the dungeons impossible to navigate.
There's this great NES game (that uses a special sound chip similar to Sega Genesis) called Lagrange Point that was recently translated into English. Great game. The only bad thing about is the insane rate of random encounters. If only someone could fix that
@@FeelingShred I've played Lagrange Point, and I agree. Very technically advanced for a Famicom/NES cart, but the encounter rate kind of kills the fun. And definitely play Lunar soon. Both the Sega CD original and the PlayStation remake are wonderful, as is the sequel, Eternal Blue. Though honestly, for the original Lunar, I prefer the music in the Sega CD version to the remake. (They completely changed the soundtrack.)
I think what really made this game was the light reflection behind the candles on the walls, the realistic moving of the water and waterfalls in caves, the somewhat 3-dimensional look of the party during fight scenes, and.. definitely the orchestral sounding music. The music really makes the game!.. especially the cave music, crystal room, and the moon caves.. just really awesome! Few games can do better even in today's lineup in my opinion. Great game!
As great as the music is, the story and characters are very important, too. A lot of what makes FF4 a classic is its amazing cast of well-created characters and Cecil's story from betrayal to redemption, which still holds up as one of the best individual character stories in the Final Fantasy series. There's so much great focus on his allies as well, as every playable character is someone that you get to know and like, and the story is one of the first in RPGs where you keep wanting to know what's going to happen next with a series of incredible plot twists. I completely agree that the musical score is brilliant and even today, it still holds up as one of the greatest RPG soundtracks. But it's just one of multiple things that make the game such a classic.
I loved this game as a kid. I rented it so many times and my mother took notice. She then surprised me with the game for Christmas. My mother died years ago. This game is the only game I have left from my childhood and the only thing I have left from her. I still have it CIB in good condition and will hand it down to my boys once I leave for good. It sucks I did not back up my saves from whenever since the cart battery died. I had it replaced but the saves are gone. How many hours of grinding did you do at Ordeals? Jeez, I have played through this game countless times and I am not at that level until the last dungeon.
Literally one of if not THE greatest RPGs of all time. Characters, combat, music, storyline, atmosphere, it’s got everything…it shaped my childhood and sparked my love of RPGs 🙏
Fell in love with this game after visiting some distant family and one of the older kids was playing this... I knew from his expression when explaining the game that I was gonna be hooked for the rest of my life. Love the FF series.
I've gone back and replayed this 5 or 6 times. The nostalgia it brings me takes me back and lifts me up. Favorite FF game ever! Amazing story and gameplay.
this definitely takes me back. i remember playing this and didn't figure out that you needed a black chocobo in order to get the the lodestone cavern so i gave up on it
Thanks!! My first RPG ever. Played it on my 11th or 12th birthday..and you've GOT to play it on SNES only!! Any other version ( unless a really good remake) has twekes and little glitches. I bet a full remake of this and 6 (3) would blow 7 remake away!!
My favorite of the pre-7 FF games. I like it even better than 3/6. Everything with this game just clicked with me. I recorded the entire soundtrack onto cassette tape through my crappy old stereo system, and would listen to it ALL the time, especially the Baron castle theme. More than once my mom would wake me so I could turn the SNES off and get ready for bed because I had fallen asleep playing it. Nothing more to be said, just a great, great game.
I couldn't agree more with you. And funnily enough, one Christmas my parents got me a really nice stereo (I have to laugh at how 90s it was now, it had a 5-disc carousel CD changer), and what was the first thing I did with it? I popped a tape in, switched the input to AUX, turned on the SNES (FF2 in the cart slot), and hit the play and record buttons. Between this game and Mario RPG, I really put that tape deck through its paces - I mean, what else would I listen to on my Walkman circa 1994 on my hour+ ride each way to and from school? Well, okay. I have to admit that sometimes Soundgarden and Boys II Men found their way onto those mix tapes, hahaha. And Ace of Base, if I want to really embarrass myself with my music tastes at 12.
What's funny is that I still have all those old tapes, too, and since I'm getting back into collecting cassettes (a BADASS Technics tape deck with some amazing Dolby noise reduction features was last year's Christmas gift), I'm glad I never got rid of them. My old stereo didn't even have a CD player. I had an old Realistic single disc one that I had gotten from a pawn shop my senior year of High School with the cash I got from working in the school office that summer. Now that I have the ability to buy the things I never had when I was a kid, I'm by god doing it. Next up is a LaserDisc player, but those seem to be somewhat elusive around my area. Don't want to just buy one from ebay, though. It'll cost too much, and it takes away the thrill of possibly finding a working one at a flea market for 20 bucks!
Dorelaxen Oh man, laserdiscs are sweet. When I lived in Tokyo, about ten years ago now, I stumbled into so many tiny, out of the way shops that were jam packed with Laserdiscs and VCDs, and just about every popular American or Japanese movie you could think of. I found random LDs of Death Wish, Rocky, Seven Samurai, anime ovas, Die Hard, Amadeus, Little Mermaid - you name it, and all of them between $5-15 a piece. It was pretty amazing to see. Maybe you'll get super lucky at the flea market and find a LD Interactive for $20. It'd still be a steal at 10x the price. And I feel you about the whole adult thing. I don't care if it's practical, I always wanted a Neo Geo, but instead of being reasonable (buying an AES), I went and bought a 4-slot MVS that's sitting in my living room with SNK v Capcom, Baseball Stars 2, Magician Lord, and Breakers Revenge on near permanent rotation. Just because I could. It's awesome.
After completely dominating Final Fantasy I for NES, I borrowed this off a friend for a weekend. Holy shit was it THEE step up. Like some new addiction had risen in my system. At least until I seen my first screenshot of FF III in EGM (a shot of a bridge on Mt. Koltz). I still love this one and how it carries stuff like the dwarves from the first one.
First Final Fantasy game I owned for my SNES (got 3/6 far, far later, and for $2 from an old customer of mine who knew I loved retro games, also gave me his SNES for free, a year later, he died in a car accident before he could give me the rest of his games. Tragically found out far later about his passing, shame as he was a nice fella. When he came to the store I worked at, we'd often shoot the shit about random things). Also have this on PS1 with Chrono Trigger (I'm not picky about short load times before battles at all), which is not based on the US version, but the Hard Type Japanese version, in English of course. Another case of Japan giving us the game, but not in it's true form. I also have 5 and 6 on the PS1 as well, and in time I want to get the first game on it's own FF PS1 collection. That would leave me just to then get the remakes of 2 and 3 (no, not our 3, but the Famicom 3rd game).

It has actually been remake several times. There was an update of it for the GBA, and then a 2D update on PSP, then the 3D version for DS and PC, and the Pixel Remaster just came out on PC and mobile last week. I wouldn't recommend it, though. The scrolling is so choppy and jumpy.
Does anyone know where to find this game, or what modern systems you can play it on? I haven't played this game since I was a kid and would love to again.
Even though the graphics weren't so realistic I really got involved in this one. I would be up all night during the weekend playing it. Never got tired of the overworld music or anything else about it.
My personal favourites are FF III/FF V/FF IX; I'm a sucker for the class system, and I really enjoyed IX overall due to the gameplay. I could never get into VII as much or the newer ones. Oh, I also really liked II for the FC (especially the remakes). Despite the weird mechanics, it did some admirable things for the time with its plot, like trying to show the horrors of war and such. No wonder there's an absolute ton of imitators, even on the original Famicom - many still being fan-translated to this very day.
If you like the leveling system in FF 2 try a game called Dungeon Master 2: Skullkeep on MSDOS (works in Dosbox) 1st-person view RPG You level up skills as you use them. Magic system relies on memorizing syllables like if you were speaking foreign language. Very interesting game.
FF1 (the first one, NES) is very interesting too, I've been playing it for the 1st time now. It's a surprisingly great Dungeon Crawler, I wish the rest of the series was like that, but I think FF5 gets a bit closer to the origins of FF1 in gameplay. More action, less text =D
I love the SNES version because of the glitches you can use and names of the jobs and spells. Btw,love the playthrough! Although the rookie mistake of using physical attacks with characters that should NEVER use them is weird to me especially when they're in the back, that lowers precision which makes attacks miss more often! Also not fully equipping all members is horrible!
I've this game in 3 forms, SNES, PS1 via FF Chronicles (and with the cheapest and sanest way to get a copy of Chrono Trigger), and the absolutely beautiful pixelart PSP version. Want the GBA version too, so I'll have a copy for at least 4 different consoles/handhelds.
no, en la descripción dijo que cortó una sesión de nivel masivo por el bien del espectador (lo siento si esta traducción es mala, estoy usando el traductor de Google lmao)
This is the original US release. They took it out, but I think it's in every other English version. A few characters had their commands altered in this one.
When I was a kid I couldn't believe people played this game and liked it..You have to have alot of time on your hands...even as a kid,,,I didn't have the patience for this...
Why bother in the dark elf cave? It's so much easier to run from fights heading straight to the boss. Killing the boss breaks the magnetic curse. Making it easier and faster to kill enemies and open chests on the way back out instead.
@@UYScuti99 Well Final Fantasy II was released alongside 1 on the gameboy advance. And Final Fantasy III was released shortly after. I think it was also remade? The one with Luneth.
@@backupschmliff1156 FF3 Famicom did eventually see release on the DS and PSP, the latter Japan only, but if you set your PSP's region to English, the game will play in full English.
I can't believe we got Edge instead of Golbez. Cid shouldn't have sacrificed himself, so Edge would act an a supporting character. Remakes follow that trend, unfortunately. We see some of Golbez's sprites during the time Fusoya and Golbez takes on Zemus/Zeromus but loses. Zemus was the Satan of Final Fantasy IV since he was a narcissistic sociopath with a god complex and transformed into a narcissistic psychopath when his first form goes down.
When Cecil becomes a paladin, you fight and kill off the 3 other party members, then finish the enemy. Then you go to save. Then Cecil has over 2k hit points? How does that happen? I became paladin. I got into a fight. Killed off everyone, then killed the enemy. Went to save. But Cecil didn't get that boost.
I cut out the grinding that I did at that point. You can see the time jump in the menu screen. He levels up much faster when he's alone than when everyone is alive, though.
@@NintendoCompleteyeah. I read other comments and figured out it isn't a hack, just time jumped. When I saw you killing everyone, I thought you went crazy, lol. Then you save and wham bam thank you Mam and your hp/lvl jumped.... Lol. This is by far my FAVORITE video game. I like Diablo 2 w/ex pack for computer.
Not to be negative you're a great player but it seems like sometimes you lack the instinct to use the most powerful attack and sometimes you ignore using white magic until it's too late...just saying because if someone actually watches this for 12 hours it gets frustrating seeing slight miscalculations...I know I'm taking the L for saying it but just thought I'd share

Name of the soundtrack @12:35 please!
That's the Theme of Love
Another Classic...
with the remake of super mario rpg out today I'm looking forward for a rematch with culex with the epic boss music from this game XD
this version doesnt have Dark or Dark wave as one of cecil's attacks
This is the original US release. They took it out, but I think it's in every other English version. A few characters had their commands altered in this one.
How did you go from 787 to 2807 in health from one save after becoming a Paladin?!?
I fight every battle to gain levels and usually make sure I am at higher levels when encountering bosses. I avoid short cuts and Emergency exits
When I was a kid I couldn't believe people played this game and liked it..You have to have alot of time on your hands...even as a kid,,,I didn't have the patience for this...
Thought the same at first its the story that draws you in your the main actor in the greatest soap opera adventure ever stellar game!
BEST BATTLE THEME EVER🙌🏿
Why bother in the dark elf cave? It's so much easier to run from fights heading straight to the boss. Killing the boss breaks the magnetic curse. Making it easier and faster to kill enemies and open chests on the way back out instead.
I am new to this game. Great stuff. Would you post a pic of your tattoo?
I have beaten this Final Fantasy game in 14 and half hours.
How do you get lv47 after you wake from resting 3:04:07 from lv11 to 47? Are you using cheat?
Read the description, he stated he cut out a massive level grinding session
3+ hour time jump from saves. I missed that. Lol
How can you get thousand HP?
Very good game
They have White Mage and Black Mage in final fantasy like Mario Hoops 3 on 3 and sports mix style
How did you go from level 11 to level 47 @ 3:04:21
NVM, edited to cut out the 3 hours of leveling up.
How do you defended?
44:38
Push right and choose parry
how are your characters so beefed up ? they take alot of damage
@@holidayinn4293 thx. Cause i saw the magus sisters fight and cecil had a sword hit that i never seen on this game. Maybe i missed it
¿Porque se llama FInal Fantasy 2 si es el 4?
I am only in the Mid 20's in my levels on FF2 SNES and I am fixing to fight Rubicante.
We have this game to thank for bringing us Super Mario RPG followed by Paper Mario.
Wait I thought Final Fantasy II was the one with Firion
Final Fantasy II on the SNES was actually Final Fantasy IV. The true FFII and FFIII weren't originally released in the states.
There's a rom hack where Golbez becomes playable.
is 3/6 next?
iOS version is really hard.
Most boss has counter attack.
Yang was my favorite one to play
At 3 hours and 4 minutes you go from 700 health to 2800. How did that happen?
Training?
In the description he says he cut out 3 hours of grinding
I just got to the Tower of Zot in 3 hours and 49 minutes.
I thought this is Final Fantasy 4
yes but 2 and 3 was never released worldwide so they had the title to 2
And they say perfection doesn't exist when it was invented In 1991
Looks fun ^_^
Makes me miss my dad
It looks different on Game Boy Advance
Brilliant
I just got to the Tower of Zot in 4 hours.
I just got to Mysidia in 1 hour and 55 minutes.
Good times
Ĺa infancia
Why does this game get left out and almost shit on?
Exelent music
Final Fantasy IV 🤔🤔
Not to be negative you're a great player but it seems like sometimes you lack the instinct to use the most powerful attack and sometimes you ignore using white magic until it's too late...just saying because if someone actually watches this for 12 hours it gets frustrating seeing slight miscalculations...I know I'm taking the L for saying it but just thought I'd share
PSP is the best version as they still use pixel-art and don't go the way FF6 did on Steam.
I really wish that SE would also release a whole bunch of porn parodies for each of these Final Fantasy games.
