IKR? As neat as I found Symphony of the Night, it made zero sense why an ability as simple as attacking up, while mapping the sub-weapons to their own button, was apparently too advanced for the cutting edge PS1 game layered with RPG elements.
Aside from not being able to whip downwards while on the ground (which perhaps could have easily been solved, if crouching was mapped to an L/R trigger, or if Down+Whip was different from Down+Left/Right+Whip), plus the hassle of fighting enemies on stairs, I felt that SCIV’s controls were nearly perfect.

SotN (aka Igavania) became the standard after the meh 3D Castlevanias in Nintendo64. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Igavanias. But I'm with you, I'd love to see this formula implemented. Castlevania:Rebirth is a fantastic game, but it uses the NES formula more than the SNES/Sega formula.
A man can dream, though. A man can dream.
Welp, time for another Super Castlevania IV run!

From what I understood, some of the original team split up with Konami and left to do their own thing. I love symphony of the night and I'm glad IGA is doing his own thing, imagine if the original SCV4 team united and made a new Castlegania game, or something like it.

@BxxDxx Hoodoo Dude I go back further than that. Waking up Saturday Morning, watching those classic Saturday Morning Cartoons until mom woke up, made banana pancakes, spend all day on the NES or SNES, playing what we managed to rent from the local rental store (even before Blockbuster came onto the scene). Mom made sweet tea, drink cups of the stuff. Go to Saturday Mass, grab a cheap pizza from, again, a local chain afterwards, watch SNICK when we got back home, play the rest of the night away until Mystery Science Theater 3000 came on, go to bed after that.
That was my idea of a perfect childhood Saturday.

All of these nintendo franchises brought a lot to the gaming scene, but the reality is that Castlevania reaches the hearts of players significantly less than franchises like Mario and Zelda. Why? Not because they are for kids, but because they were and are innovative for their time. Both games mentioned are equally as difficult as Castlevania at times, but then also a lot more relaxing, which can cater to a wider audience.

Modern games are good and all, and maybe they're the best games have ever been, but I always come back to these retro games. After the PS2/XBox/GameCube my interest in keeping up with modern gaming started to wane, and I started playing fewer and fewer "new" games. I have the PS4/XB1/Switch and what do I play the most? The NES/SNES/Genesis Classic consoles, and I can't wait until the TG16 comes out next year. The Switch is really the only modern console I play...it's not that there aren't any modern games that interest me, it's just that there really isn't a pick-up-and-play element to most modern games. You have to sit down and invest time into the game, the controls, the story, etc...When you're in your 40's you don't have the benefit of a whole lot of free time. To sum it all up in the simplest of terms: Retro games FTW!

    • @Bloodreign1

This game really showed off all the things the Super Nintendo was about:-
    Sprite rotation
    Sprite scaling
    Mode 7
    Transparency effects
    Synthesised instrumental music
Didn't like the look of it at first glance (in particular thought the first stage was ugly), but once you persevered for a while, the game really started to show how good it was.
