Even though it's not likely to ever find its way out from under the gargantuan shadow thrown by its predecessor, Mega Man X2 is an entirely worthy sequel to one of the system's best action games.
This right here was probably my second favorite in the X series behind X4. It felt like a logical progression from the original and has some great music as well. It felt so great to play, just like the original.
I love how in that last Dr. Light upgrade, he’s like wow wow you are so cool, so cool. Step into the capsule and you’ll get a deadly street fighter move.
I remember as a child we used to live in a hotel in Vegas we would be up all night watching my big sister play megaman. Good childhood memories 🎮😩🎮🎮🎮😩🤦🏽♀️🥺 miss the 90’s
Will be playing through this game again someday :) People who are claiming “ The first Game had a better Soundtrack” the soundtracks are equal in how good they are. The instrument samples are different due to the use of the Super FX Chip.
You should've started with Wire Sponge, Flame Stag, Crystal Snail or Bubble Crab for the quickest 100% route. You can beat the game without backtracking at all that way. Nice playthrough though, this game is criminally underrated! One of my all time favorites.
1:18:34 I remember going to my friend's home, he was playing Megaman x2, when Black Zero is destroyed, I was like: "What the hell?" And I didn't believe my eyes the real Zero appears
What a great video! So many memories of playing this game. Although I never used the boss weaknesses. I only used the buster to see the all the moves the bosses had.
I just have to wonder... why did Wheel Gator pack an Armor Capsule in his tank? "Oh yeah, let's just put this thing we can't open in our tank. That's absolutely necessary, sure!"
51:00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!???? You sir, must be an extremely hardcore Megaman fan if you were able to get the walking tank up to the mini boss. Even I have never done that, and I grew up with this game.
I played through the original MMs & MMX, but can't remember if I saw anything after. Good playthrough! Wild stuff w/Zero, Sigma, and the bonus move (Shoryuken). 🙂
Wow I'm surprised, I would have thought you would have been had this game under your belt but this is a great way to spend a friday evening. While I had Mega Man 6 previously and a love for the wonderfully jank cartoon this is the game that cemented me as a Megaman fan. Thanks for the nostalgia trip as always sir. Also HOLY SHIT I NEVER KNEW YOU COULD SPLIT WIRE SPONGE IN HALF!
Mega Man X2, the sequel to Mega Man X, was ahead of its time. I rent this game at Video House in Walterboro, South Carolina about 21 years ago and I played it on my Super NES at my grandmother's house a few times, I never beat it. But I like the music. I was in 9th grade at Colleton County High School in Walterboro, South Carolina around spring 2003, and therefore during 2002-03.
You know, X2 is just that kind of shunned younger sibling, that sequel that everyone just kind of says "meh" to, or, rather, it's generally regarded by the consensus as _good,_ but it's just the fact that it just doesn't bring anything significant or new to the table, shaking up the formula of the classic Mega Man gameplay like its predecessor or, say, the original Mega Man 2. But you know what? For my money, sometimes games DON'T have to be rich in historical significance or innovation. You play games just to have fun, right? Video games are meant to be played as an entertainment apparatus; enjoyed for the qualities that people may want out of them as a means of perhaps ventilation, say, for their deep and engaging gameplay, great art, enthralling story, or just to relax and experience the adventure, lovingly crafted by artists and programmers as a means of escape. And perhaps commerce. The same can, of course, apply to sequels. If a game catches on, then a company is sure to want to milk it for all it's worth, and holy Hell, Capcom is especially infamous in this department. I look at games like Mega Man X2 and its ilk in a vacuum, however. Sure, it doesn't have the legacy of X1, but it's a good game, regardless. With cool bosses and weapons, and unique levels to blast through. And it's _fun!_ At the end of the day, isn't fun all you need out of a game?
I have both x2 and x3 Japanese carts. I remember stumbling into x2 one day randomly and x3 i remember importing it. Way cheaper compared to the US carts.
I prefer to start with Overdrive Ostrich only because I want to get the heart piece with the motorbike out of the way( especially because I'm not a fan of the motorbikes in any of the X games)
"Despite being a AAA title, you might think that X2 would've been a mere rehash given its short development cycle. Well, if you haven't played X2, let me put your fears to rest. Though it's obviously running on the same engine and a few assets were recycled, Capcom didn't squander all of its creative momentum from the first game. Rather, it's an iterative upgrade that brings a whole new dash of style to the proceedings." Nope. It's an average Mega Man X1 is what X2 is. Mega Man 2 it surely is not. Now X3, that is some of the good stuff!
I always miss the jump at 5:51 in the Desert Base, Overdrive Ostrich's stage. I went through at least four game-overs just trying to nail that one jump with no success. Any advice?
Sorry if I'm too late, but when I first played, what I did was shoot those pillars until they turned into ramps, and then grab the bike thing and hold in the dash on the flat ground right before the ramp that has the big death pit. Hopefully this helps!
@@JackManX2 Thanks for the advice! I stopped playing Mega Man X2 a few months ago without having gotten that jump, and now I am regularly playing different games, but I will definitely try to keep this in mind if and when I get back to it! 😁
My favorite Mega Man game. It had a good balance between story and gameplay but I did not like Wire Sponge’s stage and how similar Magna Centipede and Flame Stag’s musics sounded.
Wow this brings back memories of watching a neighbor friend play but he never got this far. You made it look easy. And isn't it odd how the credits don't list a single human being. Is that typical of Capcom games?
How many sprites are being used for the first boss in this game? (oh and this is a Cx4 chip driven boss battle!) PS. Would the SNES suffered from massive slowdown rotating the sprites? Also, would it be possible to do it with an SA-1?

You can do it without dying, but you needed to be extremely precise on turning after you grab the heart tank.

Very out-of-character for Dr. Light to fanboy like that.

26:56 Those underwater domes / cities we see in the background... could they have been inspired by the movie The Abyss?
I can totally see what you're saying there. Who knows? I'd say it's possible for sure.
I just have to wonder... why did Wheel Gator pack an Armor Capsule in his tank? "Oh yeah, let's just put this thing we can't open in our tank. That's absolutely necessary, sure!"
