This is very informative, with interesting suggestions and advice.
There are brilliantly skilled comedic actors out there and they absolutely are ACTING. It's a fine skill set, the same as writing and attacking actors is a sad way to try to build your cred. The funniest writers I know "aren't writers" either.
Allen2saint he never said they shouldn’t act, he’s talking about where the emphasis of the performance should be. He’s not attacking actors he’s saying the motivation in a comedic performance is very different from a dramatic performance
Allen2saint on reflection he seems to be emphasizing the importance of instinct and intuition over emotion in a comedic performance
If I want to get laughs, I reveal my hidden tool.

Ben Stiller and Bill Murrey major comedy actors? What about Peter Sellers, Charlie Chaplin, John Cleese to name only three british actors? It seems Kaplan has a narrow perspective.
You're right--they're great.
