Been doing stand-up for a while now... I already figured out some of the tips myself but... some of them I have never thought about :) a lot of gold stuff. Thanks you. I'm gonna watch it again every now and then.
Really great content. Not a comedian, I’m here to work on story telling. A lot of these points resonate. Not surprised there’s so many lessons to draw from stand up comedy. And you synthesized them so succinctly. Thank you!
this is the most concise collection of amazing standup tips I've encountered, stuffing multiple books' worth of advice and knowledge into 30 minutes - well done and very much appreciated! i will be sharing with other comics so I don't have to sit through as much garbage comedy at shows and open mics 😜
My very first video from you and I had to pause at tip 10 and say this: first time watching, I cannot put into words how grateful I am. I have the opportunity to go on stage and do what I was born to do. Thank you for helping my dream. You're amazing and I hope you stay blessed. You definitely earned that sub and like!
Excellent video thanks! Do you remember which video you recommended finding a bit from our favorite comedian and rehearse it for practice. Pretty sure it was you 🤞
Excellent, I'm a busker myself. Performed magic, juggling and escapology for over 20 years on streets around Europe. It's a fantastic way of learning and earning at same time.
Dear Gary, this collection of 50 practical tips is absolutely fantastic, so valuable! Thank you very much for sharing. Besides the great content it was hilarious how you got lost and mixed up with the numbers of the tips 🙂
FANTASTIC tips! I've only done five sets so far, and I he puts the exact experience into words. Almost NONE of my jokes worked on my last set, but the ad-lib material got a TON of laughs, because it was authentic and fit within these tips.
So when I first started it was difficult to riff/freestyle at first, but when I did my first Feature (on 4/20/2023) I was able to riff and freestyle to the point where I didn't even have to use the material I had planned. (Once you're able to perform your written material with a natural flow, it makes riffing/freestyling so much easier).
thank you so much for this ! im thinking of starting my first gig but ive been rlly scared of rejection and bombing it , this video helped me alot tho and i look forward to using everything i learnt ! thanks mate :)
Thanks for commenting. Being scared is great. Everyone who will be at the gig will also be terrified. The goal, I believe, is to always be terrified. If you're constantly putting yourself out there in and progressing to the next stage then by default you're always going to be nervous. But you'll develop a believe that you can smash it cause of your experience. Get up there, grab the mic and just have fun. Don't worry about making them laugh at the beginning. Sure, do your material, but focus on the experience of being on stage for the first few times. Really try and soak it in and pay attention to as many things as possible. Be sure to drop back and let us know how it goes.
Loved this! Thank you! Been wanting to try stand up for years! Now that I’m old and have no dignity the thought gets more real everyday. On a day I can remember! 🙄
my first stand up gig was painful! My mentor literally had to get up on stage after me and apologise for the fact I froze in panic at about 3 minutes in.... lol. ruclips.net/video/F-EFJNhMAmI/видео.html
Great advice! A good one to add, for me was, "use less words". Aka- use the least amount of words possible to get to the punchline. new comedians often have setups that are far too long and wordy. Word economy and learning about how many words people can take in before tuning out is super useful
Thank you for putting together this very succinct list of everything a comedians needs to know to get started! After doing a dozen open mics, these are spot on ways to improve.
I think my biggest problem as an amateur comic (albeit one who hasn't performed in years) has been remembering all of my material off by heart, due to having the memory of a goldfish in general Also, I really feel many comics that get on TV and streaming platforms today could use tip 19
