  • Practice what I preach is a mantra that I adhere to on a daily basis.
It is unreasonable for me for me to expect of others, the things I cannot do myself. So one thing I always do, is to add protein to my soup.
Seriously, if you are not doing this, and simply having soup with bread, you are missing a trick. By adding protein to your soup, you balance, your macro nutrient requirements (sorry yawn) which means for you that you are more likely to feel
    - full up for longer
    - have increased energy.
    - more focused
    - this likely to crave sugar and snacks
    - experience better mood
Too good to be true? Not really. When we increase our protein, healthy fats and fibre at meals, not only do, we slow down the release of the energy from our food, we also send signals to our brain to let it know that we have provided healthy fats, healthy, carbs, and an abundance of nutrients necessary for regeneration, repair and energy. We should then feel satiated for the next 4-5 hours. NO Starbucks with a muffin required.
I added halloumi and chickpeas to the soup for protein. I fry them in our fryer with a fajita spice mix. You can make those really easily at home.
Fajita spice mix, makes 1 small jar
    Ingredients
    ½ tbsp hot chilli powder
    2 tbsp sweet smoked paprika
    1 tbsp ground cumin
    1 tbsp garlic powder
    ½ tbsp ground coriander
    1 heaped tbsp dried oregano
Fry halloumi cubes with the drained chickpeas in a frying pan with a little olive oil until crispy and spicy. Use one tablespoon of the fajita mix. Or air fry for 12 mins.
    Spicy Lentil Soup.
    Ingredients, serves 4
    2 cloves garlic, crushed
    1 onion, finely chopped
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    4 carrots, peeled and diced
    2 red peppers, peeled and
    diced
1 apple, peeled, cored and diced
    1 teaspoon turmeric
    2 teaspoons curry powder
    1 teaspoon cumin
    1 teaspoon paprika
    ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    125g red lentils
    800 ml vegetable stock
    1 tablespoon tomato puree
    Method
    1. Fry the onions and garlic gently in the olive oil for around five minutes until softened.
    2. Add the other vegetables and stir for two minutes before adding in the spices.
    3. Cook the spices through for a further two minutes.
    4. Add the lentils, stock, tomato purée, salt and pepper as well as the chopped apple.
    5. Simmer gently for 20 minutes until cooked through. Stir occasionally
    6. If desired, part-blend the soup to make it smooth

You're very pretty. You remind me of Rosamund Pike in Pride and Prejudice 2005. Like a brainy version of her.
