How I Use My Air Fryer - Dominique Ludwig Nutrition

  • I think an air fryer is a convenient addition to my kitchen appliances. I use it like a mini convection oven, to save time and energy because it’s only heating a small drawer rather than a large oven.
    The nonstick lining and air fryers is made from different materials. My air fryer is from @cosori.uk and is one of the simpler models available. I know that when I have too many buttons to press and too many options I don’t use them. I have never used the steam function on my actual convection oven or any of the pre-sets.
    But I am very particular about the lining in my air fryer. When the lining of nonstick appliances becomes damaged, certain chemicals can leach out and have been shown to be harmful to our health.
    Because of this, I choose to use a food, grade, silicone liner inside my air fryer . This means I only need to wash the liner at the end of cooking. I do not cook bacon or sausages or other processed meat in my air fryer, so spitting of fats inside the appliance is minimal.
    I also use my own olive oil spray. I bought the glass bottle online and fill it with extra-virgin olive oil. Oil sprays from the supermarkets that boast lower calories, can contain other ingredients and are considered ultra processed foods. The emulsifiers in these sprays are thought to solidify and harden on the nonstick coating and can lead to flaking. It is the flaking and breakdown of this lining that we want to avoid.
    I also spray my food in the silicone tray before I put it into the fryer.
    So, don’t be fooled by clever packaging, always read the label to see what you are really buying . There are quite a few surprises in some of our regular foods.
    We cannot live in a bubble, where we avoid all chemicals in our diet and environment, but we can minimise our risk by being smarter in the kitchen.
