Rick Shiels Golf thanks Rick! At the end of last season when I was playing regularly, I was scoring better, so I’m hoping to break 80 again this year. I’ve only shot in the 70’s twice before and the last time was about 25 years ago.
@@MichaelWBauer very true I drive the pick and love it when someone can hit me haha! scare me sometimes but keeps me awake when I'm out there for an hour
Rick from playing 3 months of playing the sport i went from 130 score on my first day to 82 today, all from watching yours and only your vids :) thanks so much for sharing your knowledge :)
I hadn't played golf in 20 years. Gave it up at 14. Someone showed me this channel and I've gotten the fever and some great advice. Best part, shooting rounds with my dad for hours. Went from 40 over in 18 to 15 over in 2 months and loving every moment of it. Great content Rick!!!!
@@joshuaking1194 Me three. So much has changed and all this super tech. I've updated my woods, but will always play the blades with which I learned to work the ball (when balls were balata covered and rubber wound of course). I hope range balls aren't as rock hard as they used to be.
When I started practicing like I played I got better. Hit like you’re playing a round of golf. Driver, 5 iron. Driver 7 iron. 3 wood pitching wedge. I’d also try to remember the anxiety of the first tee and hit balls feeling nervous. That really helped me. What a great video !!!
I know this video is a little old, but Ricks channel … even the old stuff .. has motivated me back into golf after 20 years. I was a decent golfer back in the day, and now that life has slowed down, now seems like the perfect time to pick the clubs back up. Best golf channel on RUclips.
I just had my most productive practice session ever. This video really clicked for me, in particular the part where you spend time on something you’ve been working on “without worrying about the result”. I consistently strike the ball heel side of center and it exacerbates my tendency to hit a push/fade. I slowed down and focused on hitting the ball toe side, regardless of the result, and by the end of the session i was able to move back to center and consistently hit the ball in the middle of the face. I was hitting high draws by the end of the bucket!
I really enjoy these tips. I just recently got into golfing and couldn’t even get off the tee box, just broke 100 for the first time. I’ve only played 3 full 18 holes ever… not good but I’ve definitely improved from these tips.
Keep at it. I just started playing last year and was over 100 the entire first season. I broke 100 my second time out this year, and now near the end of the summer I'm well under 90 with my sights on 80. It's a really fun game and very satisfying when you hit a shot exactly the way you intended to.
So I got back into golf after watching your videos for a few months. First round back was my lowest ever. Keep in mind it’s still not good but just the few tips worked for me, especially with driver.
I watched this then went to the range, started with the SquareStrike Wedge, then the C3i Wedge, then some Forward Press Wedge, then Cleveland Smart Sole Wedge, then some iRT-5 Iron Hybrids, some GX7 Hybrid shots, then moved onto the big boy, the A14 Auto Pilot Driver. It was a great session, thanks Rick.
Great video, I’ve been doing that exact practice routine for years now. It’s the motor learning benefit of random versus block practice. Another good variation is to take a scorecard from a course and actually play the holes just at the range. Base your shots off the results of your strike. Estimate your drive and calculate your second shot etc.
I have been enjoying your videos... as an osteopath, passionate golfer who is also treating professional golfers, I would like to see a video which includes a full warm up routine. I have been seeing golfers over years, not warming up, injuring themselves. I would appreciate considering the amount of people/golfers following you... if you could give us a short video on a full warm up routine. Thanks!, Chris
Great stuff , I also image some of the holes on my local coarse so would try and hit 450 yards , Driver then say five iron followed by a short chip . Then a shorter 190 par 3
Ya know, Rick hits the ball with so much ease and hits so many good shots during these videos. When he hits a bad shot, it actually encourages me because, ..... knowing no matter how much I ever improve I can make a miss. Kinda makes me relax.

This is one of your very best videos. I think out there, there are lots of us club golfers that go to the range without any plan and come away with nothing.
I imagine I’m playing a par 5. And score it. So if I hit a lovely drive I have an easy 7 then say a 50 yard lob. If I slice the drive I have to draw a 5iron. If I blow the iron I have a tight target and have maybe an 120 yard 7 punch. Score it birdie bogey par chance etc

Saw the original video on Facebook and Had my best practise at the range following this structure, usually end up hitting driver with the last 30 balls to took the 3 iron out of the bag and hit 10 fades, 10 stingers and attempted 10 draws. Cheers rick
Top advice from Rick Shiels giving some direction to range sessions. One of the most important things is to get the most from your practice so having some structure as Rick suggests is top advice!
Rick you're easily the best channel for golf on here. I've learned so much already and I can't wait to see some improvement in 2020! Keep up the good work my man!
This is a now a top 10 favorite video for me. I've been wondering for a while how to practice at the range effectively. This gives my time there structure instead of just randomly hitting balls. Thanks Rick, great video.
Horrible last balls crush my spirit. If my second to last is good, I just chuck the final one to a young kid and say, "Here, looks like you need this". (I just hit a little pitch.)
When you got about 10 balls left if you hit a sweet sweet ball just stop and go to the bar. You will remember that last shot till the next time you swing. No reason to hit 8 great balls then turf the last 2 in frustration.
My local range has installed toptracer, and I have really found that playing the simulated courses has really helped my game. I cycle through the clubs in my bag like I would on the course, the “chip putting” has dramatically increased my 40 yard pitch accuracy, and it’s just plain fun!
U guys don't have indoor or outdoor heated driving ranges? I've got one 6mins from me. It's really not bad! I just generally wear a hood and even take it off at times.
I understand totally. I was driving balls in my my practice net, out site in the drive way at -8oC ( 18 oF) last week. Another 2 months of snow before seing some grass.
Richard Badish Well it’s tough when it rains 3 inches and here where I live in gets 10 degrees with high winds. Plus, my indoor golf in half an hour away and is 50 bucks an hour. Tough 😝
@@Micter damn! That's outrageous! My range is outdoors with individual stalls and is heated. The biggest bucket which is approximately 150 balls is only 15$! I feel for you bud!

Rick I love your Channel, I love your Videos. I´m "playing" golf now for a year and I love it. I´m far away to be a confort player, but every time I go to the course I feel good. And with your videos I get everey time a little bit better. I have watch some other Golf channels befor in germen language, becourse i´m from austria. BUT, for me, you are my number one Golf RUclips Channel. And I understand everything what you try to teach us and can also implement it on the golf course. Thank you so much for your first class videos and I'm looking forward to the next video of you! Schönes Spiel!
So thankful for this channel, I’ve been golfing for 15 years and just now started dramatically improving my game with your tips. I had never beaten my dad at golf and now I’ve crushed him the past four rounds. Can’t wait to keep getting better, you deserve 5 million man!
I’ve been doing this sort of thing more and more recently, and I’ve found myself having a really fun time! I feel like I am improving as well. Can’t wait to get out on the course the coming week to see if I can translate it there!
Absolute new comer to the game Rick. Attended the driving range today after my clubs arrived on Monday. 50 balls, three clubs, (6 iron, 8 iron, pitching wedge) just to see if I could get a feel for it after watching your videos. I pleasantly surprised myself although I found I was slicing off to the right. Not too much but they were definitely going left to right. Back to the range on Saturday with the full bag and 100 balls. Probably have some lessons after that. Love the content of your videos!
Leaps and bounds! Under 1 yr shooting around 100, thanks to you! Never had a lesson or the opportunity to play with really advanced players, But closer and closer i inch forward and that's thanks to applied practice after watching your channel. Drill, drill and drill! Thank you honestly, your platform has given a personalized approach to a (sport) I never thought held water. Thank you and god bless
Oh this is great, I do this so I'm glad to know I'm on track. A couple of other elements that I have added is I will bring a scorecard to the range and play it as around of golf. The other thing I try doing is those awkward shots where you have to turn your club upside down, toe down from left and right stance to resemble being up against the tree or have a unfavourable lie. I remember the first time I was doing this somebody walked by and said " Sr, I think you need a lesson you're hitting the club all wrong" lol. Thanks for all you posts!
I recently re-started playing the game after about a 15 year hiatus. Your videoes and tip have already vastly improved all of my fundamentals and I see strokes falling off of my total with each round I play. I'm confident that breaking 100 for the first time ever is in my very near future! Thank you.
I am a 4 handicap and watching you seems to make me need to rethink my sessions. You make perfect sense to me. Will be very helpful to break my range sessions down. I don't get many. Love tour videos and keep it going. I give a thumbs up 10x over on this video!
Great video. I always try to practice with a point to it as well. I see people all day at the golf course I work at just go to the range and bang out balls hitting them with zero purpose and wonder why their game doesn’t improve. I try to spend 1/2 hour to 45 practicing my chipping and putting and on the range I also pick out targets to aim at.
My friends took me golfing for the first time last month and I’ve been hooked ever since and I’ve logged hours into your videos. The tips you give have helped me improve tremendously!
I grew up playing golf competitively and am just now getting back into it as an adult. This is some of the most helpful advice I've heard to make my range time more effective. Much appreciated Rick! Going to bring the gopro to the range next week to film my swing.
Brother....you've changed everything about how i approach the game. I don't have the luxury of playing as much as I'd like to ....but when i am able to get on the course.... i enjoy it so much more...i "hear" u in my ear..... you have a great demeanor....great camera presence and speak with clarity and confidence. I really, really, appreciate ur tips and ur channel. 💯👊👊 Sandro. Bolton Ontario. Canada

Just getting into golf as my 8 year old son got interested in it. Going for lessons but this video is awesome. If only I watched this yesterday before going to the range.
Been lookin' through your videos at random and always seem to dig up something really useful. I'm taking this one with me to the driving range tomorrow and honestly i'm really excited to try something new for my practice.
Awesome vid. Some good advice there. See so many people at the range just standing there like a robot, hitting 80 balls as quick as they can and going home. Lets hope more people see this and use it. One thing to add, I like to work on about 10 shots hitting at nearly 100%, say 98% of power. So a fast 'whooshy' practice swing and then hit one. Wash, rinse and repeat. I have found that slowly my swing speed has increased as that '98%' becomes my old 100%. Dealing with a back injury, it has helped me get from 103-105MPH up to about 111-113MPH with my driver.
Been subscribed before I saw your Facebook page. Your help videos have done a lot for me. I just started golfing a few weeks ago, watching your videos got me wanting to golf and they’ve helped me improve. Keep up the awesome content!

@@willmcdono haha that is so clever and cute as well, i love this way of thinking, thank you for that one!
When you got about 10 balls left if you hit a sweet sweet ball just stop and go to the bar. You will remember that last shot till the next time you swing. No reason to hit 8 great balls then turf the last 2 in frustration.
Haha
My local range has installed toptracer, and I have really found that playing the simulated courses has really helped my game. I cycle through the clubs in my bag like I would on the course, the “chip putting” has dramatically increased my 40 yard pitch accuracy, and it’s just plain fun!
Watches video and gets excited for golf. Then looks outside and sees 3 inches of snow on the ground 🙃
FuzzyPebbles It sucks to be golfer in Antarctica 😄
Probably the best golf video you’ve ever put out. Keep up the good work mate
"I can 'drive' home with that one"... Nice
I'm fairly new to golf this is my second year that I've taken it as more then a day with the boys. It has now become a joke in my circle that when anyone asks for advice our advice is always the same we answer "Rick sheils" lol. Thanks for all the tips I owe you a drink sir for the ones I've won on your training. Cheers
Driving balls is my passion you are excellent man
I’ve been doing this sort of thing more and more recently, and I’ve found myself having a really fun time! I feel like I am improving as well. Can’t wait to get out on the course the coming week to see if I can translate it there!
Just did this routine yesterday as closely as possible and got a quality session that showed improvement
Great video, super efficient use of time at range - well done !
I watch your videos with my 10 year old son and we are both massive golf fans! Your videos help teach both if us! Thanks for your advice!
Leaps and bounds!
Under 1 yr shooting around 100, thanks to you!
Never had a lesson or the opportunity to play with really advanced players,
But closer and closer i inch forward and that's thanks to applied practice after watching your channel. Drill, drill and drill!
Thank you honestly, your platform has given a personalized approach to a (sport)
I never thought held water.
Thank you.
Great video rick so helpful
Best video I have seen Rick! Keep it up!
Best golf content on RUclips .. proper, useful tips delivered in a straightfoward way .. and the on course sections are superb...
I grew up playing golf competitively and am just now getting back into it as an adult. This is some of the most helpful advice I've heard to make my range time more effective. Much appreciated Rick! Going to bring the gopro to the range next week to film my swing.
Been watching your videos for about 5 years now watch almost everyone. Keep up the great work.

love your tips and tricks Rick. i only just picked up a set of clubs and hit my first ball about 6 weeks ago. After subscribing to you and watching loads of your videos i have finally been able to par a par 3 and par 5 yesterday. WOOHOO!!! Now totally addicted. Thanks again and luv the accent lol
i have been looking for something like this thanks rick. i was just going and woking on the technical portion of this for hours. i think this will help a lot
How can this awesome video have 87 dislikes? Been learning how to play golf for about 1 month now, and Rick’s advices are fenomenal. Thank you a lot Rick. Keep up the good work. Golf is awesome!!
Love your video's last time I hit a golf ball I was 14 never held a club since then over 50 now watched you and bought a set of starter's club's in a BOX love the inspiration thanks.
Just getting into golf as my 8 year old son got interested in it. Going for lessons but this video is awesome. If only I watched this yesterday before going to the range.
Thanks for such a great video Rick!
Been lookin' through your videos at random and always seem to dig up something really useful. I'm taking this one with me to the driving range tomorrow and honestly i'm really excited to try something new for my practice.
I have been doing this kind of style for a while now it’s helped my game tremendously. Finely hitting under 100 for the first time!!!!!
I used to hit the range a lot with a friend and we would always finish with about 40-50 closest to pin. Made it much more enjoyable.
Been subscribed before I saw your Facebook page. Your help videos have done a lot for me. I just started golfing a few weeks ago, watching your videos got me wanting to golf and they’ve helped me improve. Keep up the awesome content!
You're helping and entertaining golfers from as far as south east Asia! Keep the videos and podcasts coming! - fan from Singapore
Thanks to your vids I shot my first round of 2020 a week ago and shot my best round EVER! I'm a 13 HC and show +7 thanks to your vids
Just another awesome video from ricks trying to help us get better at golf. There is always a scope for improvement. Thanks ricks.
Great video Rick👍😊last ball then another pops up ha ha 🤣
Rick Shields thank you so much for all your videos. You’ve helped me improve my game so much, I’m grateful.
I have just recently gotten into golf, and I feel like your videos have helped me improve my game more than anything! Keep pumping them out so I can keep getting better!
Thanks for the tips! 100 balls...got it!
