Back in the days of Crystal version, I actually did manage to soft-lock myself on Cianwood. Not only did I strand myself there with no pokemon able to learn surf, I also stranded myself without any that could learn fly. I did have an Abra that knew teleport. But Cianwood was the last pokemon center I'd used. I ended up having to restart my game. 20 years later I'm still embarrassed.
The very first time I played Pokémon Red I softlocked myself into a battle with a Bug Catcher on the way to Mt Moon. I'd caught a Metapod. He had a Metapod. I didn't know about Struggle at the time so I had to turn it off and restart because I hadn't saved at all since the beginning. A very frustrating Christmas Day.

Not sure why the RSE dead save battery factoid reminded me of this one weird instance when I was playing my Sapphire or Emerald version. I had just booted up my save file and began walking in the ashy grass when I encountered a shiny Spinda. I forget what exactly happened after (if I KO'd it or I accidentally turned off my game, etc.), but I reset my game right after, took the exact same path through the grass as I did before, and on the same tile I encountered a shiny Spinda again. Suffice to say I made sure to catch it this time *just in case*.
I don't recall specifics but Emerald in particular has a glitch when it comes to shiny frames [know this because Emerald was one of the first games I owned]. Makes sense that you'd encounter it again.
@@hawktalon7890 It's actually a glitch with the seed generator. Instead of the seed being random each time you start or reset the game, it's always set to 0. Meaning some Secret IDs will let you have shinies early when you start the game.
My first one was a shiny spearow in Pokemon Gold. I just wondered why this spearow had the same animation as the gyarados anf than catched it. Was looking it up and found out that it was called a shiny, lol. I also got the weird call from the prof. That I caught Pokerus in the same walkthrough.
I’m not gonna lie I never cared much for the registeel, regice, regirock trio but that time period thing blew my mind and makes me appreciate them a lot more now!! It’s so neat especially w/ the two newer ones added in
I actually knew the fact about the drums playing conditionally! I LOVE how gen V did their music. Different music for different seasons, towns with instrument players, even that one town that would add or subtract an instrument when you talked to one of the many players scattered around. Gen V man, Gen V.
Exactly, I plan on making a vid diving into why gen 5 is truly a masterpiece. Because the amount of care put into that game is truly unrivaled before or since. And a lot of it are changes like that, that don’t Jump out at you immediately but really help it feel immersive and alive. Something no other pokemon game has been able to 100% nail imho
The drum thing in gen 5 was one of my favorite touches ever!!! Especially with the gorgeous melody of the eastern Unova routes, I may or may not have teared up at it back in the day. And yet, as much as I loved BW2 (I even completed all of Pokestar Studios), I never knew about the girlfriend arc. I'm going for gen 5 shiny Gallade if I can help it some day
I knew about the girlfriend thing I just never did it enough to get a pokemon lol Every few days I'd go check up on her to see how she was doing xD I also completed the Pokéstar studio missions lol
7:25 Actually, the wild KO method is working as intended, people just didn't understand it. The more of a given Pokemon you KO, the higher the chance they have to be Brilliant Pokemon (represented by the weird yellow aura around them), which in turn gain increased Shiny rolls based on how your KO counter. Also, yeah, I *did* know about Emerald's broken RNG, I've abused it to Shiny hunt a good chunk of the dex there already = w= IIRC it's actually intentional, specifically to resolve problems presented by dead batteries- Emerald's RNG is static, but the seed is re-generated significantly faster, making it more or less unnoticeable... Unless you're Shiny hunting.
I knew about the “love interest” in B2W2 only because I desperately wanted a Spiritomb on my party, and looked up how to get it. Other than that and the RSE frame glitch, this was actually filled with things I don’t know. Great video!

I think he's the only person who's punched and evil team member. If anything, though, that just makes Hugh cooler.
I mean lance's dragonite hyperbeamed a team rocket member
Yeah, but in my eyes, ordering your dragon to kill the man is just below physically assaulting them yourself.
You're right but both of them are still the only people to assault an evil team member so they are both pretty cool.

I assume you didn't have any pokeballs/rod either? Otherwise you could've caught a tentacool or something else and teach it surf.
I always used to go through caves without flash, but one time I got lost/stuck and had to restart the entire game 😂

I'm wondering if the static RNG caused plenty of people to have the same trainer ID...
