I bet I know what’s going on with the level 4 Bibarel and Staravia. Staravia is #11 in the Sinnoh regional dex, and Bibarel is #14. In the national dex, #11 is metapod, and #14 is Kakuna - kanto pokemon unavailable otherwise in Sinnoh, which would make a lot of sense as encounters for Fire Red and Leaf Green.

@@FioFiorello I agree but this screams unfinished to me. Like whoever was working on adding the bonus Pokémon for Fire Red and Leaf Green was probably using a table to convert the Pokédex values to the internal values… and clearly they never finished, forgot about it and didn’t test it. I’m not sure how 4th gen games identify the 3rd gen version but that must have been programmed to apply to Fr/Lg and Emerald, although they should have programmed it differently. Perhaps they gave up because they were unable to differentiate between the 3 games in the code for whatever reason. Certainly tells and interesting story, however I still think it was a mistake by a developer.

Here's a Gen 2 fun fact I don't know if you've covered. In the Goldenrod Game Corner in GSC, there's an NPC in front of one slot machine who says "I always play this machine, it seems to win more often!" You might think it's just flavor text, but this NPC is only there in the afternoon & night time. If you go in the morning, he's gone and you can use his slot machine, which actually does have a slightly higher chance of winning.
I don't remember hearing this from any general "pokemon facts" videos before and I only learned it from reading a deep dive into the exact mechanics & probabilities of the game corner in different pokemon games :)

The Draco Meteor thing in space is pretty cool, but Nature Power isn't the only thing that's affected by terrains. The move Camouflage allows the user to change types to match terrains, so they'll turn into rock types in caves or fire types in a volcano, stuff like that. That move also got updated in ORAS, so that the user would become dragon type if the move is used in space. So there's a couple move updates the Delta Episode brought to the table

      @WhimsicottFanatic 7 месяцев назад +36

Except for the fact Graveler is a trade evo
So while it can be pretty expected that the odd casual player may end up getting a Clefairy or Poliwag and getting them evolved up to Clefable and Poliwrath, respectively, unless they've got a friend and a Link Cable, they'd basically never see Golem's sprite on their own

The point, besides the fact that, yes, linking up to another game inherently makes the potential obscurity of the sprites irrelevant [good luck feasibly doing that in our current year of 2023 by the way], is that the OP comment was basically saying "If you've used Clefairy, Poliwag/Poliwhirl, or Geodude/Graveler, you'll have been bound to see these sprites through evolving anyway", when you cannot evolve Graveler alone
And the issue of being alone is kind of the big deal here because that's why the sprites of these 3 are "obscure", because as Phin says in the video, you never find these 3 in the wild or from an NPC
Although ultimately, the more interesting thing about the fact is it means Golem can never be registered as seen, let alone caught, in a solo copy of Red or western Blue, which I think makes it the only Pokemon in those games like that [there are plenty others in a given playthrough, but most of what ends up being "unseen" tends to be a result of player choice, meanwhile Graveler's always gonna have that blank spot beneath it unless you pull put the funny cable]
I did specify _western_ Blue because, interestingly, in the Japanese version of Blue, you actually *can* get a Golem in a single copy!
The old man in the Pokemon Lab who offers an Electrode for a Raichu in most other versions will instead offer a Graveler for a Kadabra

There is a very not-well-known glitch in the Generation 3 Pokémon games, specifically Emerald (I'm not sure about R/S) where if a player trades a Pokémon between the GBA and GameCube, an un-growable Cheri Berry will just randomly appear on a patch of loamy soil near the Berry Master's house. It will overwrite the berry you have there (bad news if that's your only Liechi Berry!!) and never grow, staying in the seed stage forever. It's also unable to be watered with the Wailmer Pail, and is a crazy annoyance for people with OCD like me. This officially crowns Cheri Berry with the title of "Worst Berry to Ever Exist in Pokémon"!

Oh my I can't believe Pikachu's Ocean Adventure is Lost Media now!
I can't quite remember what was featured in it or where exactly I saw it as I was way too young, but I can recall this
    - I saw it at an event in Italy
    - Octillery would spout water on you and absolutely totally soak you, not even kidding, scared me as a kid x)
    - Yanmega would bat his wings against the camera and you'd feel the breeze coming from him
    - They attempted to mimic Pikachu's electricity by giving out small sporadic "wind hiccups" while he was doing the thing, but it just felt weird ahah
    - The glasses used were renowned for sometimes not working?? I clearly remember switching glasses with my father (he followed me in on multiple occasions to see the short) and he would check which one of the two would not work, and give me the functioning ones. They'd also force you to trash the glasses on your way out. I don't remember if we managed to smuggle a pair out by mistake but if we did we'll make sure to contact you with a picture ahah
    - The short included a "camera dive" into the ocean, where you could see the water pokémon in their "natural habitat". Can't remember how long it took up, but it was a sight to see in my opinion.
If I happen to remember Anything else I'll make sure to update this comment, but that's it for now

    • @Acheo_
      @Acheo_ 7 месяцев назад +3

Oh man, you remembered far more than I did! I happened to see it in the US. I only saw it one time, and I was only 7 or 8 years old, so I guess it makes sense I wouldn't remember it that well. Everything you're describing sounds accurate though. I'll put down what I remember about it here:
My few main memories are of the "ride" portion of the short, with Pikachu & friends riding on Latias & Latios above the water and running into different Pokemon, then diving below and seeing all the Pokemon there. I believe it kept the pace pretty quick once the ride started, not dwelling on encounters with the wild Pokemon for too long. I especially remember Meowth's initial freakout of submerging, before saying he "forgot" it wouldn't be an issue on Latias & Latios. Meowth did a lot of commentary, which makes sense because he was the only speaking character in the entire short, so he had to basically say what every Pokemon was saying, and whatnot. Now that you mention the scene with Octillery, I remember the splashes of water being hilarious to my family. The sheer audacity to drench the audience for the sake of delivering the 4D experience was really funny back then, and it still is now.
After looking online for what's around of the short, I see the treasure in the short was called the Wailord's Tear, which is probably why I remember a Wailord in the short. I seem to recall one making an appearance near the end...maybe guarding a chest on the seabed? Maybe unrelated to the treasure though, I can't remember for sure. I also recall some super cheesy song at the end...partially sung by Meowth, I'm pretty sure? Could be a dub thing. Actually, I would be very surprised if it wasn't.
My parents took me there, and when heading there, I had NO idea about it. They kept it well under wraps, and lead me on into thinking we were just going to some furniture store (since I'm pretty sure the theater was part of a larger building), and I only learned there was a theater downstairs playing the short when I went inside and saw posters for it on the wall. Funny how I remember that more than the film! Guess it was one of those things that meant a lot to me as a kid.

I think my favourite fact in this video has to be the last one regarding the Psychic trainer. It’s such a small insignificant detail but it clearly shows the care and passion that went into gen 3 as a whole; someone on the dev team remembered that one, out-of-the-way forgettable trainer and not only used her to tie the two sides of gen 3 together (at least in terms of lore/world building) but also preserved her original purpose of encouraging the player to explore every nook and cranny of those games.

Personally, a very neat detail I noticed in Alpha Sapphire (although it's not really obscure I'm sure a lot of people know this, especially people who shiny hunted their starter like me): when you reach the end, of the game little static 3D scenes show the key moments of the game. In these scenes, there is of course your first rival battle. Well, the sprites used for the Pokémon actually match the data of your Pokémon and your rival's; in other words, if your starter was shiny, it'll also be shiny in the scene! I loved that, it reinforced the immersion of a long journey with my first Pokémon

I found a pretty cool one recently! In Crystal, you get the Togepi egg, and once it hatches, Prof Elm asks you to come to his lab.
Well, I didn't. Instead, I waited until I got all 8 badges. Then he calls saying he has a gift (the master ball) for you.
Once I got to the lab (with Togepi in party), I wondered which text would show first, either his surprised egg text, or his master ball text.

Almost all of the wild Pokémon found in the wild in Pokémon X & Y are below Level 60 (aside from the postgame Legendaries of course) due to Kalos not having very many dedicated postgame locations. The only Pokémon in the entire region that can be naturally caught at Level 60 specifically is a Poliwrath that only appears in one specific location in Victory Road with a 5% encounter rate while fishing with the Super Rod. I recall after unlocking the Unown islands, some of the Unown couldn't damage Dougong.
Which letter could and couldn't damage Dougong was consistent.
Reddit theorized my game may have had a cartrage exclusive bug that prevented x8 damage as Dougong with Thick Fat is x8 resistant to Ice. But that caused an additional problem as Hidden Power types are not mutually exclusive to forms.
A different equally weird thing in Fire Red, is in the Sevii Islands, the north end of Three Island has a bridge, surfing off the north side of the bridge is a trainer with a normal swimmer sprite. However, her dialogue implies you caught her skinny dipping. Such as beating her she claims she doesn't have clothes on because a Pokemon bit them off of her.

Psychic Jaclyn actually has the same name in Japanese across RSE and FRLG too. Bulbapedia says she is in Emerald, though.

It's not often that I hear new facts about pokemon, but I didn't know about most of these! Love it!

Here's one I just learned from DeltaSeeker's video "Is Phantom Venusaur impossible?". In the original Pokemon TCG game, it's impossible to get Phantom Venusaur through card pop. The two functions they use can never output for Venusaur, and no one caught it.

Amazing content, it's always nice to hear fresh new discoveries about pokemon. The only thing I maybe would recommend is a better mic, it is sometimes a bit hard to understand you. I believe it also would catapult your already good quality even higher too.

If you somehow manage to leave the truck in RSE without walking on any of the normally accessible tiles to the right, you'll walk out of a house in Petalburg City instead

I love the Pokémon fan base. I wonder how many of us ran into some of these secrets/glitches as little kids and didn’t realize what they were and certain secrets just going unreported.

Really like going for your fans as the crowdsourced nature means some really cool stuff will come up whereas your well wasn't starting to run dry, but certainly stretching a little bit. I think keep it up!

its actually really cool to see a pokemon facts video with stuff I didn't know before feels like I've seen a lot of them that just reuse the same like 20 facts

In Emerald, you can tie in the Battle Dome (the elimination tournament) if the last Pokémon on both sides faints on the same turn (for instance, due to recoil damage). If that happens, the announcer will summon a referee that will rule which side is to be awarded a win.

Something interesting I found while playing a new file of SoulSilver, I was shiny hunting the gift togepi and collecting apricorns for the special balls, and when I tried to collect a green apricorn when I had 99 in the box, a new message appeared that basically said "... Or that's what would happen, the box is full!" So I picked the apricorn for waste. Yeah, you still pluck it from the tree, but you can't keep it while the box is full of that color.
Normally I never collect apricorns, so it was interesting that there's a full box message.
Speaking of full box messages, there's also a thing for when you collect as many Pokemon as you can hold, meaning you fill up all boxes in the PC and your party. Bill will call you and tell you that you can't catch anymore Pokemon until you release some.

If you get all 3 of the pokeballs from oak in gen 1 blue will have a glitched pokemon to battle you with.
I tried it with a jump hack to see and saved after moving closer to the next pokeball, get the pokeball, save and repeat until i got all the pokemon before he can get one
