Regarding the shiny spinda fact, in Pokémon Go there are 9 spinda forms, all of which can be shiny and rotate every month. So theoretically if you transferred two of the same form to Pokémon Home, you'd have two mons which would be impossible to get in regular games! (Come to think of it I don't know if these forms are even available in regular games) Also the one available in February has a heart form just above the right eye, but in it's shiny form its a broken heart! o_O
I believe spinda is one of the few pokemon you cannot send from pokemon go into pokemon home because of this. And the fact that the patterns are designed differently from main series spinda patterns (like the heart spinda for example)
Another way is to RNG a Shiny Spinda in Pokemon Emerald. Since Pokemon Emerald has a broken RNG seed, and Spinda's pattern is tied directly to its PID. And since Emerald has broken seed generation, you can theoretically have multiple of the same shiny Spinda with the exact same pattern in Emerald on a legitimate cartridge without any form of cheating (like Gameshark or cloning Pokemon with glitches)
I've got some shiny trivia I found out while playing that probably barely anyone knows about: Boldore and Gigalith's special attack animations involve their red crystals glowing more orange. In the 3DS games, shiny Boldore and Gigalith's crystals, despite being blue, still glow orange on the inside in the animation, causing almost a kind of salt lamp effect. This seems to have been an oversight as it was changed in Sword & Shield so that the shinies now just glow a brighter blue.
One of my all time favorite facts about shiny Pokémon: Arcanine and Ninetales were actually the first ever designed shiny Pokémon by GF. The golden shiny Arcanine exclusive to the Pokémon Gold version and the silver shiny Ninetales, exclusive to the Pokemon Silver version. Another incredibly great video Phin! Keep up the hard work!
the way you wrapped this video up gave me chills. thank you for the nostalgia trip, this really resonated with me. i regret not subscribing sooner, keep up the amazing work 💜 edit: it's the mew under the truck man... that mystery and charm could never be replaced
Last month, my 4 years old son found an old pokemon stickers book I had. His sudden interest in those creatures and evolutions made me play Pokemon yellow again, with him, and even redownload pokemon GO. He is always spouting random pokemon facts or questions, like "Meowth evolves to Persian, right?" He is always laughing the stupid nicknames we gave the crew in Pokemon yellow (he does not know who Mike Tyson is, but "Mankey Tyson" still makes him laugh.) . Pokemon is kind of a magic franchise. I'm seeing all this fascination in the eyes of my boy, that feeling you described at the end. I hope he can cherish it years on.
@@hawktalon7890 even at the expense of some getting into "who cares" territory for people who aren't crazy into the series, for those who are every fact was interesting! So much respect for a creator who is willing to steer away from mass appeal to fully realize their topic.
I am currently 29 and have been playing Pokemon since the Western release. When you were talking about treasuring shinies I am immediately reminded of the shiny Natu I found in OG Silver at the Ruins of Alph. This was before I had even made it to the Lake of Rage so it was my first shiny. I didn't catch it but I will never forget it.
That's pretty damn cool. I wonder if I ever saw a shiny in the early gens and just ran like the lazy ass I was, lmao. "RUN RUN RUN RUN ELITE 4 GO GO GO"
Thank you for your ending message. My cousin gave me crystal and gold when I was a kid and I’ve been hooked on Pokémon ever since. I actually replaced the internal battery in my crystal version so that I could play it again. When I booted it up again the first wild Pokémon I encountered was a shiny Ledyba. Unfortunately I didn’t have any poke balls as it was too early in the game, but I’ll always remember it.
I “wrote a letter to Nintendo” as a kid (in quotes since I don’t know who it actually went to) asking for them to make a light blue-colored Mew. So when I learned that was Mew’s shiny form many years later, I took all the credit XD
Hey why not. I would have been excited if my idea was "used" in pokemon. Even if it may have just been a happy coincidence. With that said "Thank you" for the light blue mew. I like that color over the regular one
Something similar happened to me with Pichu in 2018 and the new Smash Bros. game. In my request for Smash 4's fighter ballot, I mentioned that I wanted Pichu for the sole purpose of wondering what kinds of alternate costumes it could have. The very specific one I wanted didn't make it in, but given what that costume would have been, I honestly wasn't expecting it to. But we did get evil team bandanas and Pikachu's old swimmer goggles, so that's got to count for something, right?
That's how life seems to work sometimes. In pokemon legends arceus I failed A shiny wurmple because it was really early on and I was getting used to some things and it got away and for some reason I was really super sad, but when I got homes after going to like a swim class I think, I saw a video that you can get a free shiny ponyta (Fun fact, ponyta is my first pokemon card pokemon that I lost a long time ago but then I got more cards and the first one I opened was galar ponta. Why is this so common?)(Btw I also got a shiny hippo thing in legends arceus)
@@rejuno1991 How did you know...? No, seriously, how? In all seriousness, I was actually too shy to ask for the ukulele itself because I thought “surely they won’t do it, right?” To this day I can’t live with myself knowing it could have happened. 😢
Actually, if you catch spindas, the odds of getting two are significantly higher. Because shininess and spot pattern are both based on personality value, shiny spindas will only have about 500,000 different spot patterns on a particular save file.
After a bunch of binary conversions and "exclusive or" operations, and the fact that the value threshold required for a pokemon to be shiny after calculations must be less than 8, including zero; meaning that there are only exactly 8 different spot patterns that can ever be shiny for each trainer ID and secret ID combination.
When I was a kid I had a shiny suicune in my Pokémon crystal but I didn’t know what shiny was so every time I sent it out and the sparkles happened I just thought they were ice crystals for some reason. I didn’t realize until a few years ago that it was indeed shiny. It’s probably gone by now but I’ll always remember it as my, possible, first shiny.
I traded away my first shiny pokemon, because at the time, I didn't really care about shinies. It was a Raticate, and I wish I still had it. But, oh well. Hopefully the person who got it appreciates it. They seemed happy.
Bedew was my first shiny I ever ran into on my own and it was during the main story. I nicknamed him Special Bob and we had a wonderful journey together!
Your closing thoughts hit me hard, brother. I’ve been in a little bit of a rough patch so I decided to do a Sapphire Nuzlocke. Lo and behold, within a week of each other, I get a shiny Oddish and Seviper in that same file. The sense of wonder and excitement I felt is one that’s hard to recapture. It turned two pretty derelict days into days I’ll never forget. All because of some pixels in a game that weren’t their normal color. All because it reminded me of a time where I was happy, carefree, and had no expectations placed on me and I’d not been exposed to how broken this world can be at times. I love your content. I always only know about a third or less of what you show and that hooked me, but your personality will keep me coming back. Thank you for what you do. Cheers my man.
So glad you resonated with the video! Pokémon really is something else, far beyond just a brand or game, it really has an impact. Sending you good vibes my man! ❤️ happy to have you in the community!
My first Shiny was a Zubat in Diamond. The Strategy Guide had a section for "Pokemon of a different color" with their own Shiny Zubat, so I figured it was added in Gen 4. I also had no idea the odds were so low at the time.
Happened to me first time playing diamond after beating pearl when I was 11, walking around the coal block in oreburgh mines and found a shiny geodude, I didn't know what this was so I did some mental gymnastics to realise it was a rare Pokémon
Here’s my fun fact: the normal and Shiny variants of Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, when properly aligned, openly represent the main six colors of the rainbow 🌈 Normal Flareon 🔴 Shiny Flareon 🟠 Normal Jolteon 🟡 Shiny Jolteon 🟢 Normal Vaporeon 🔵 Shiny Vaporeon 🟣 Furthermore, the normal variants represent the three primary colors while their Shiny variants represent the three secondary colors.
I almost never hear people talk about that machine in the NYC Pokémon center. It’s a rare piece of Pokémon history that I can say I was actually a part of! I happened to be there when the Pokémon of the week was a Shiny Suicune and I still have it on my Silver version to this day. I digress though, these facts were great and I look forward to future videos!
Here's one for ya: the Wishmaker Jirachi that was distributed on the Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disc could produce a shiny Jirachi, but Poké Transporter (at last report) rejects any shiny Jirachi as a legitimacy check. To my knowledge, it's the only legitimate shiny Pokémon that you can't trade forward from the gen 5 games.
Interesting. I actually have a shiny Jirachi and I've been able to at least get it into Sun. I guess the guy I got it from lied about it being from the disk, which in hindsight isn't that surprising.
You can also get a legit shiny manaphy that can't be transferred. You have to get the manaphy egg from Ranger, then trade the egg to another game and it has a normal chance to be shiny. When the egg is transferred from Ranger it's shiny locked and will never be shiny in that game, which is why you have to trade it to another game before hatching. But it will forever be marooned in gen 5.
@@wallydraigle5382 Now I want to try this out for myself to see if this is true. I'll just use a cheat to make the Manaphy hatch shiny then transfer it up to Gen 6 if possible. Also a shiny Arceus cannot be transferred up because the only way to get one was from the Hall of Origin event, which cannot be done without cheating
I know I'm finding this video almost six months later, but your ending was beautiful and almost brought tears to my eyes. Pokemon has been one of the only consistent things in my life, being there for over 20 years by now. While I never had much luck with shinies, nor the patience with active hunting, they never failed to bring me the silliest, greatest joy. I have so many fond memories, talking about and playing Pokemon with my friends throughout my life.
Great video man, really enjoying this series so far! Had absolutely no idea the Mew/Celebi distribution was ever a thing, so really fascinating to learn about it. (And also thanks for the shoutout!)
I still remember catching my first shiny pokemon. It was carvana and I caught it because I thought it was a mistake in the game "a bug". When i caught it and looked it up I really thought the colours would be changed back to normal and to my surprise it wasn't. I went over to my friends house and he and his brother were in shock. His brother wanted to trade my carvana for whatever I wanted but I liked my little fish guy and I knew it was special. And I was damn right 😎
The ending was enough to make a grown man cry, beautifully done. Took me back to finding my first ever shiny Shinx in Pokémon Diamond in 2008, decade and a half passes quick man damn
3:14 Due to those trades in BW2, every trade in BW2 had to be modified to allow it to have a Dynamic PID, which is the factor that allows if something can be hunted or not even with a Lock Removal code. So stuff like the In-Game Gigalith and Tangrowth are able to affected in the same way. This is not the case in BW1, since they are coded to always have a set PID with no variation built in.
Thank you for your videos and the heartfelt message. It's obvious you're very passionate about this subject and I appreciate and respect that. I'll never get tired of learning new things about Pokémon
The first shiny I ever came across was a shiny zubat. I accidentally ran into it when I was 10 years old exploring the wayward cave. I honestly thought all Zubat were supposed to be green at first
Noooooo waaaaaaaay! My first was also a zubat back in gold/silver days at victory road. I was so perplexed back then (being so young) that it was green but decided to use it on my team because of that. That's also how I discovered it had a third evolution and flipped out even more thinking that I overlooked it in Gen 1 😅😂
Mine was the gift Eevee you get from Bill in Goldenrod. This was back before the U.S. release of Gold and Silver and I was playing a very poorly translated (as in "mostly gibberish, but with a handful of words I could actually read") ROM of Gold version, so I had no idea about shinies or Dark-types, yet, or that Eevee had two new evolutions. Umbreon was a bit of a shock I wasn't expecting. To think, if not for that Eevee and the lack of a Dark-type gym in Johto, I might not have become a type specialist.
My first legit optained shiny was shiny zubat too. Before i had a powersave and cheated some shiny pokemon. After that time i tried shiny hunting in omega Ruby (my first pokemon game) but never had luck. I left the game for a few years and opened it again a few months ago. Was still in the meteor falls, walked a little bit around and the first pokemon i saw was the level 17 shiny zubat. Still feels unbelievable today.
@@katsukibakugo4963 "shining cards aren't shiny pokemon" okay so what the fuck are Shining Mew, Noctowl, Steelix, Charizard, Tyranitar, Magikarp and Gyarados in the original NEO sets, who's Shining Cards clearly reflect their shiny forms, the shiny forms aren't as obvious on Kabutops, Mewtwo and Raichu though.
The ending hit me right in the feels. I never played the games prior to Gen 7. But when I learned about shinies, I just knew I had to get one before leaving Ultra Moon. After completing the Pokedex and getting the shiny charm, I headed towards Ultra Wormholes. I will always remember my first ever shiny. A beautiful, blue-coated Yanmega. Caught on Wednesday, 11th of September 2019. Ever since this day, I chose Yanmega as my favourite Pokemon in remembrance of my shiny blue boy. It really helped that Bug types are my favourites too.
for the spinda fact, if you use the gen 4 cute charm glitch the spinda you find that are shiny for some reason tend to have similar/same patterns which makes it actually possible to find multiple in those games
You really earned yourself this sub and deserve so many more. So many of your facts are actually obscure and refreshing to hear. It’s obvious you put a lot of work into these videos.
I had this Action Replay thing that worked specifically with Gold/Silver and my buddy figured out that if you put the shiny Garados in your team and nothing else, it would duplicate it in all 6 slots on the AR menu and you could change them to whatever Pokémon and it would keep them shiny. We did this and sent some into Pokémon Stadium 2 and they looked so cool!
I love that you used Crystal as a special shiny memory at the end because that was my first game and my first shiny. It was Shiny Electrode, but of course we all know what Shiny Electrode does. Sure enough, turn one it blew itself to smithereens and I was heartbroken. This was in the Rocket Hideout, so it was that string of three Electrode. I couldn’t believe that I had lost it, I was so upset. I battled the next Electrode and freaking lost my mind. I had gotten back to back shiny Electrode. You had better believe I hucked an Ultra Ball at that thing immediately and I caught it. I was so happy I almost cried. Still one of my best Pokémon memories to this day
This might be the best pokemon channel I've seen in a decade. Kudos man, I've been playing pokemon since 1997 and a lot of these facts I did not know. Always fascinating how deep it can go.
Aw dude making me tear up at the end. Memories of when I was a kid with no responsibility and eyes full of wonder. Time to get back into Pokemon. Thankyou. Subbed.
The Monochrome Pokemon legend Back in the first few weeks of X and Y, pictures of Pokemon with black and white textures were shared online. The story goes that they are caused by an error that could occur when loading textures and are rarer than shinies. They are believed to have been patched out after the Lumiose fix update and would revert to normal colors when turning the game off and on again. To this day, nobody knows if it was real or an elaborate hoax, and no new pictures have surfaced since 2014. Special mention to that one bugged out copy of Sun where all the characters were nightmare creatures.
i'm always happy to hear Mother 3 music!! the ending message was incredibly sweet but i think the music was an extra gut punch to me (in the best way possible) ^^
There's a shiny celebi in mystery dungeon time and darkness, you find it when you escape from the future! And it has an awesome extra mission with grovyle in ex0lorers of sky!!
The words you chose couldn't capture the essence of that shiny you've been hunting finally appearing . The child like wonder and delight it fills me with even now is something that nothing in a game can stand with . Thank you !
Love your closing thoughts on this video. I've been a pokemon nerd since gen 1 first launched in the US. Part of the reason I still love all the games, gen 1 - 9, is because they ALL take me back to that simpler time in my youth.
Wait lucky power 3 gives you increased shiny odds? I had no idea!!! That's so sweet, it's literally a shiny charm without completing the pokedex! Though tbh I could complete my black 2 pokedex 3 times before getting my Entralink that high
My first ever legitimate shiny was a cubone that I had stumbled upon while hunting for a kangaskhan to fill my Pokédex in Pokémon moon. Its gone forever now, but I still remember how happy I was to get that random shiny with full odds.
That bit at the end reminded me of all my random shiny encounters. Including my first. A shiny venonat during the Gold Version bug catching contest. I name him Blue Eyes and I think if you catch a shiny you auto win the contest. Off hand, I've randomly caught shiny Growlithe heart gold Petilil white version Hatched shiny pichu in crystal Venonat Nidoran female in safari zone leaf green Gastly in same leaf green game Cubone also in same leaf green game (in the tower, and didn't realize it was shiny until after as sunlight was glaring on my GB Advanced screen) Tailow in A.S. Those were all full odds and random and every moment was magic.
My first two Shinies bar the red Gyarados was an Onix, and then a Krabby. Krabby was the one who confirmed to me that Shiny pokemon keep their Shininess when they evolve, but won't always be the same colour. I adored Kingler's baby food green colour. Years later out of nostalgia for my first two Shinies, on Ultra Sun I Masuda'd myself a Krabby, and then on Sword and Shield - or SwooSh - I Masuda'd myself an Onix.
ik for a fact that shiny pokémon don't automatically win in the remakes: years back I recall a friend losing the competition to a scyther or something when her catch was a shiny metapod.
I've got another incredible shiny fact: In Gen 2 the IVs decided if a pokemon was shiny. The IVs also decided what letter Incognito is. The only Incognitos that can have the IVs to be shiny are I and V
That ending reminded me of being 10 and finding a shiny rhyhorn in Leaf Green then showing all my friends my pink Rhyhorn the next day. Those memories and that feeling of pure excitement at finding something unique. I'll always cherish it
Man when I watched your last video I knew youre content was gonna be special but this ending truly solidified it, this is going in my coveted "Good Videos" playlist. Also pokemon rumble series is criminally underrated
Okay the bit about shiny pokemon being special at the end had me feeling emotions. I still remember my first shiny and i still get excited at every one i bump into.
I hatched a shiny Riolu from Riley’s egg in my very first run of BD and it’s been a treasured member of my team since. Not one of my favorite shinies in comparison to its regular coloring, but still a treasured member of my team nonetheless. It’s even more great that I walked with him throughout our journey together and that he’s been a very versatile member of my team being able to live hits that others can’t because of his typing. The ending of this video reminding me of just how much greater my run of this new game has been because of this treasure.
Hay man, I truly loved the monologue at the end. After shiny hunting for the past 7 years of my life, I have never been able to put into words the reason that I shiny hunt, usually when someone asks me why I'll say I'm simply insane and that I "enjoy" spending countless hours doing the same thing over and over again. Although somehow you just changed that.
Dude you totally got me since some of these videos giving me the nostalgic pokemon trip. So thanks helping me to value my own pokemon moments more. It is really precious how we related to games back then. They were new and exciting and connecting us.
Small correction at 6:00 your shiny odds aren’t decreasing they are actually increasing. While the 1/x number IS decreasing the odds do the inverse; That is to say that when your odds go from 1/8000 to 1/4000 your odds have increased because x decreased. I know that was probably what you meant, just thought I would point it out.
@ 1:53 when you said to look at the sprite, I accidentally minimized the video and saw an ad for a jack in the box burger. Thought you were trolling for a bit 🤣🤣🤣
I like how you go deep into mechanics and explanations about odds and trivia but then the video comes to an end and you whammy us with existential questions that make us question the reality of our memories and feelings of our past... great vid...
An interesting shiny fact is that despite being unobtainable in the games, The Shining Legends TCG set featured Shiny Volcanion. I believe this also happened with Shining Mew Japanese promo but I'm unsure if that counts as glitches in gen 1 would allow you to shiny hunt it
Mans be rolling out the banger content. Really enjoyed this one, Phin! I've been hunting for over a decade and there was still and entry or two I had no knowledge of!
Skwovet and Greedent are based on different types of squirrels in the UK! Their original colour is based on the grey squirrel, a common squirrel in the UK. Their shiny colour is based on the red squirrel, a very rare squirrel in the UK. I love how well thought out and accurate to real life the Pokémon colours are for Skwovet and Greedent are! I found out about the shiny colour when I caught my first wild Pokémon in Shield which was a shiny Skwovet. Even though Sandy Cheeks is from the grey squirrel species in SpongeBob Squarepants, I still named my Skwovet 'Sandy Cheeks' because she's a squirrel.
That ending was so precious in a slightly cheesy way. 😊 I found a shiny Klink in Chargstone cave in Pokémon Black a week ago. Haven’t seen another one since. Still gonna try.
I really like the last message at the end of the video 😿💗 Also rip that one shiny spinda at the theme park. I wonder why the park is abandoned... Pokémon is popular enough to live 25 years lol.
You can also find shiny Milotics in battle pike, which can also be caught using the pomeg glitch. Metarkrai actually pulled it off but then screwed up and his Milotic didn't get saved, it's possible to keep it if you do it correctly though. His video is called "Un Milobellus/Milotic Shiny sur Emeraude, une Shasse extravagante"
Damn, hit me right in the feels with that ending. Honestly I don't shiny hunt, but everytime I run into one by accident it is very special and exciting. Thanks for all your effort and dedication you put into making these videos.
I'm curious what the math for shiny Spinda was because every time you catch a shiny your chances of finding a matching shiny goes up because now there's 1 more you own that could be matched. Not that you'll get a matching pair before the heat death of the universe, but maybe save you a few billion years.
This is exactly the situation of the birthday paradox (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_problem). I don’t know where the 5,483,835,163 centuries come from, but I’d be curious about the calculation. The actual calculation involves annoyingly large numbers, but there’s a quick rule of thumb here: If you catch 4 billion shiny Spindas and then one more, you’re guaranteed to have a pair because there is only 4 billion different ones and the last one must match one of the previous ones if they were all different until that point. I’m not an expert on shiny odds, but if we just assume that one out of every 8192 encounters is a shiny and there’s one encounter per minute, 8192 encounters per shiny * 4 billion shinies * 1 encounter per minute = 623,025 centuries. That’s much less than mentioned in the video. And the actual time would be even far less than this.
Regarding Shiny Spinda: It is actually not as difficult as it sounds to get two of the same pattern of Shiny Spinda. If you have a save file which has access to the Cute Charm exploit in Gen IV, all you need to do is run into Shiny Spinda over and over while it I'd swarming until you get two with the same nature. And there you go, two similar patterned Shiny Spinda within your lifetime.
Found your channel recently and I love it! The ending of this video got me tearing up a bit. Reminded me of my first shiney and how special it was to me.
I remember catching a shiny pinsir during a bug catching contest in gold and thinking it was a team rocket pinsir because it also had an usual sprite sound.
@BlueBoyPhin Regarding Spinda: No, this is the birthday paradox. Where with 23 people in the room, you have a 50% chance of two people sharing a birthday (month and day). This is because you aren't just comparing to 1 shiny Spinda, but all shiny Spinda so far collected. When you get your third shiny Spinda in week 3, you have two possible matches with the first two. And so on and so forth. Per Bulbapedia, practically speaking, we have 3,945,136,128 different forms. The numbers are so out of scope that wolframalpha takes ages to sort out, but rough estimate of 62811 shiny Spinda are enough to have over 50% chance of matching shiny Spinda. Really simplified, if you had 4 Spinda named Curly, Swirly, Tipsy, and Ron, Curly can pair up with Swirly, Tipsy, and Ron. Swirly can pair with Curly, Tipsy, snd Ron. Tipsy:Curly,Swirly,Ron. Ron with the other 3. This is 4*3. But we see these repeat; Curly paired with Swirly, Swirly paired with Curly. So divide by 2 to cancel the repeats. So 4 Spinda made 6 connections. You can draw these if you wish; you draw a + inside a diamond for 6 lines. Algebraically: (4*3)/2. (4*(4-1))/2. (n*(n-1))/2. (n^2-n)/2. So, (62811^2-62811)/2=1,972,579,455 comparisons are made in that many Spinda. The mathematically keen will notice this exponential growth as n increases. As 1,972,579,455/3,945,136,128 = 50.000288735%, you have better odds than not that some shiny Spinda are visually the same in 62811. Surely that many players have a shiny Spinda in the world. So there are bound to be repeats. And a single player at pace 1/week could amass that collection in just over 1200 years.
I have a 4 facts The only shiny tape you can legitimately get in gen 7 is Tapu Koko from an event with the OT as Mele Mele There is a trainer is gen 7 with only 1 Pokémon a shiny eggsecute In sword and shield you could get a shiny amoongus as a mystery gift A legitimate non shiny zeraora is rarer than a legitimate shiny zeraora
Speaking of the Tapus, do you remember that the Z-Move was advertised showing a different color of the body for each Tapu used? But it never happened in the game when launched.
Bro seeing the shiny Giratina at the end nearly made me tear up. I spent nearly 3 years on and off soft resetting on Platinum for a shiny Giratina until I got one. Beautifully done my friend; keep up the good work.
Ok so... I have a shiny Mew since like 2006 and somehow it got accepted into Pokemon Home on my switch. I never knew where the trainer who traded it to me got it but, I would love to think that somehow I got a hold of one of these legendary mew!!
Here's another one for all: Supposedly the Clefairy of the gamecorner in D/P/P can be shiny, but after all its uncatchable, like the pokemon of Sw/Sh in the Pokedex ):
Regarding the shiny spinda fact, in Pokémon Go there are 9 spinda forms, all of which can be shiny and rotate every month. So theoretically if you transferred two of the same form to Pokémon Home, you'd have two mons which would be impossible to get in regular games! (Come to think of it I don't know if these forms are even available in regular games) Also the one available in February has a heart form just above the right eye, but in it's shiny form its a broken heart! o_O
Didn't think I'd see you here lol
The cute charm glitch in Gen 4 can also help you get two Shiny Spinda with the same pattern
Omg never took you to be a pokemon fan but hell it's nice to see
I've got some shiny trivia I found out while playing that probably barely anyone knows about:
Boldore and Gigalith's special attack animations involve their red crystals glowing more orange. In the 3DS games, shiny Boldore and Gigalith's crystals, despite being blue, still glow orange on the inside in the animation, causing almost a kind of salt lamp effect. This seems to have been an oversight as it was changed in Sword & Shield so that the shinies now just glow a brighter blue.
ooh i have a shiny gigalith in sun but i haven't used it in battle yet, i bet this looks cool
@@TmacPlushVideos 🤓
pokemon go also has the shiny glow orange
Yo this is a super cool fact, I never considered that!! I just looked it up and it’s actually a pretty cool visual with the two colours together
One of my all time favorite facts about shiny Pokémon:
Arcanine and Ninetales were actually the first ever designed shiny Pokémon by GF.
The golden shiny Arcanine exclusive to the Pokémon Gold version and the silver shiny Ninetales, exclusive to the Pokemon Silver version.
Another incredibly great video Phin! Keep up the hard work!
Omg that’s so cool!! I had no idea!! Oliver you’re the best!
sup oliver
omg, thx for the add on ^^
Hey Oli
Oh my Gawd!!
This is just a reference to Wario. Still I'm shocked.
the way you wrapped this video up gave me chills. thank you for the nostalgia trip, this really resonated with me. i regret not subscribing sooner, keep up the amazing work 💜

Scout what u doing here!! I didn’t know u play pokemon
Last month, my 4 years old son found an old pokemon stickers book I had.
His sudden interest in those creatures and evolutions made me play Pokemon yellow again, with him, and even redownload pokemon GO.
He is always spouting random pokemon facts or questions, like "Meowth evolves to Persian, right?"
He is always laughing the stupid nicknames we gave the crew in Pokemon yellow (he does not know who Mike Tyson is, but "Mankey Tyson" still makes him laugh.)

Pokemon is kind of a magic franchise.
I'm seeing all this fascination in the eyes of my boy, that feeling you described at the end.
I hope he can cherish it years on.
I found it kinda cringe actually. It feels forced
how dare a pokemon fact video make me cry
I love how these are actually Obscure facts. Like I’ve been shiny hunting for almost a decade and I didn’t know most of these.
Same. This guy's not clickbaiting and I can respect that.
@@hawktalon7890 even at the expense of some getting into "who cares" territory for people who aren't crazy into the series, for those who are every fact was interesting! So much respect for a creator who is willing to steer away from mass appeal to fully realize their topic.
I have a few rare shining (and shiny) cards worth a bit lol...on Go, my best shiny is my Vaporeon, and my Nidoking
"RUN RUN RUN RUN ELITE 4 GO GO GO"
Didn't expect the ending to be so beautiful, well done
Thanks Brandon! ❤️
Seriously
The ending made be blow the dust off my old game boy and boot up pokemon again
The ending made me shed a literal tear.
Came here to say this ♡
Thank you for your ending message.
@@bdt2002gaming u asked for ukelele pichu?
@@rejuno1991 How did you know...? No, seriously, how? In all seriousness, I was actually too shy to ask for the ukulele itself because I thought “surely they won’t do it, right?”
To this day I can’t live with myself knowing it could have happened. 😢
Actually, if you catch spindas, the odds of getting two are significantly higher. Because shininess and spot pattern are both based on personality value, shiny spindas will only have about 500,000 different spot patterns on a particular save file.
Right! And, with the "birthday paradox," the more you catch the odds One of the pairs will match gets higher and higher!
@@thoopsy pretty sure his number accounts for birthday paradox
After a bunch of binary conversions and "exclusive or" operations, and the fact that the value threshold required for a pokemon to be shiny after calculations must be less than 8, including zero; meaning that there are only exactly 8 different spot patterns that can ever be shiny for each trainer ID and secret ID combination.
Also the 2 he showed looked literally identical to me
I can't tell if that was intentional or I just can't see the diff lol
@@ZeranZeran Bruh you gotta be stupid if you think that he didn't just use the same model twice
@@Soleilune1995 Your first shiny was a rattata too? Oh yay :-)
My first ever shiny was a blue flamed Ponyta. It now resides in my pc as a grey flamed LV.100 Rapidash named Mystic.
@@Mothball_ coincidentally my last shiny was a shiny ponyta and mystic is part of my main username for most sites lol
@@MysticWarriorMJ maybe Mystic and those blue and grey flames just go together lol.
Bedew was my first shiny I ever ran into on my own and it was during the main story. I nicknamed him Special Bob and we had a wonderful journey together!
I think yanma was my first shiny ( not including a request Ponyta ) also other then Arceus it's possible to get shinies without the shiny charm???
@@strawberrycowsandmilkweed6358 Yeah it’s just a lot harder depending on the method. Now it’s 1/4096 it used to 1/8192
Same! Mine was a safari zone budew too haha i didn't even know what shiny Pokemon were back then lol
DUDE SAME OMG, When I was a kid, I remember getting Zubat in a cave, and was so confused why it was green!
Happened to me first time playing diamond after beating pearl when I was 11, walking around the coal block in oreburgh mines and found a shiny geodude, I didn't know what this was so I did some mental gymnastics to realise it was a rare Pokémon
Here’s my fun fact: the normal and Shiny variants of Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, when properly aligned, openly represent the main six colors of the rainbow 🌈
Normal Flareon 🔴
Shiny Flareon 🟠
Normal Jolteon 🟡
Shiny Jolteon 🟢
Normal Vaporeon 🔵
Shiny Vaporeon 🟣
Furthermore, the normal variants represent the three primary colors while their Shiny variants represent the three secondary colors.

Thats pretty wild; must've been an update as I was able to transfer a gen 4 shiny jirachi (action replay birthday gift) into gen 8
I believe it’s also possible to get a shiny spiky eared pichu in heartgold and soulsilver, but the pichu is impossible to trade or send to gen 5
2:42 I have only one thing to say.
HAIL YEA
I still remember catching my first shiny pokemon. It was carvana and I caught it because I thought it was a mistake in the game "a bug". When i caught it and looked it up I really thought the colours would be changed back to normal and to my surprise it wasn't. I went over to my friends house and he and his brother were in shock. His brother wanted to trade my carvana for whatever I wanted but I liked my little fish guy and I knew it was special. And I was damn right 😎
My first was pelliper, so that pokemon now has a special place in my heary
Hey my first shiny was a fish too! It was a Basculin
@@sunnyside7369 Pelliper is a pelican, but that’s cool!
My first would've been A shiny Relicanth and then my game died
My first shiny it's ralts male version 😅
Same for me. A shiny Zubat
Hey, zubat was my first shiny too!
Dude your message about nostalgia at the end brought a tear to my eye. Thanks man. Some times we forget what it was like. :})
Kecleon's shiny also got an update in home! Instead of just the stripe changing from red to blue, it's also a lighter shade of green
They could’ve just made it purple tbh
Here I am, 10:30 at night, sobbing from the outro for no good reason. Damn that was unnecessary deep. Earned my sub hands down.
Shinies didn’t used to be called “shining.” that was the cards. They used to be called “color Pokémon.”
Shining and Shiny are totally different. Look at Shining Rayquaza and Shiny Rayquaza. One is badass, the other just sparkles..
Shining cards aren't shiny pokemon. Your wrong. As the person said above ^
When Castform came up I screamed "HAIL YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"
6:20 The Klonoa music I love it. Also fun fact, when you view a shiny Mantine in Pokemon Home, it has a shiny Remoraid with it
You really earned yourself this sub and deserve so many more.

6:22 MAN USED A KLONOA SONG?! LET'S GOO
The Monochrome Pokemon legend
Back in the first few weeks of X and Y, pictures of Pokemon with black and white textures were shared online.
I want someone to do a in-depth video on those
Ah yes. I think I vaguely remember hearing about that cursed copy of pokemon sun.
I remember hearing about these on Memebase’s Pokémemes channel a long, long time ago.. I thought the monochromatic look was soooo cool! 🖤🤍
i'm always happy to hear Mother 3 music!! the ending message was incredibly sweet but i think the music was an extra gut punch to me (in the best way possible) ^^
Loved the video phin, I’m now going to dedicate the rest of my existence to finding the same patterned shiny spinda - squeaks

The ending of this video is both nostalgic and wholesome. Thank you.
There's a shiny celebi in mystery dungeon time and darkness, you find it when you escape from the future! And it has an awesome extra mission with grovyle in ex0lorers of sky!!
I shiny hunt all the time and I absolutely love the mystery surrounding them, I really can’t imagine Pokémon without shiny Pokémon!
That NPC showing the shiny for the pokedex help is evil:”hey you’re looking for this Pokémon? Well look at this shiny version of it”
The words you chose couldn't capture the essence of that shiny you've been hunting finally appearing . The child like wonder and delight it fills me with even now is something that nothing in a game can stand with . Thank you !
Ugh YES! Glad to see you're continuing this series Blue! Can't wait to watch this one!
Hope it enjoyed it!! Gonna try and make it a monthly series!
Off hand, I've randomly caught shiny
Growlithe heart gold
Petilil white version
Hatched shiny pichu in crystal
Venonat
Nidoran female in safari zone leaf green
Gastly in same leaf green game
Cubone also in same leaf green game (in the tower, and didn't realize it was shiny until after as sunlight was glaring on my GB Advanced screen)
Tailow in A.S.
I've only gotten a Kricketot in Go and Latias through Dynamax Adventures
ik for a fact that shiny pokémon don't automatically win in the remakes: years back I recall a friend losing the competition to a scyther or something when her catch was a shiny metapod.

"The Yancy/Curtis trades can be shiny with lock removal"
Hey Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today!
I like how you go deep into mechanics and explanations about odds and trivia but then the video comes to an end and you whammy us with existential questions that make us question the reality of our memories and feelings of our past...

An interesting shiny fact is that despite being unobtainable in the games, The Shining Legends TCG set featured Shiny Volcanion. I believe this also happened with Shining Mew Japanese promo but I'm unsure if that counts as glitches in gen 1 would allow you to shiny hunt it
The ending, made me shed a tear. That was gorgeous
Even though Sandy Cheeks is from the grey squirrel species in SpongeBob Squarepants, I still named my Skwovet 'Sandy Cheeks' because she's a squirrel.
i love this video so much
That ending definitely hit home! Wonderful video!

That ending was so precious in a slightly cheesy way. 😊 I found a shiny Klink in Chargstone cave in Pokémon Black a week ago. Haven’t seen another one since. Still gonna try.

Also rip that one shiny spinda at the theme park.
I've still got my action replay so now that you've told me about the shiny unlock for black/white 2 I've got some hunting to do....

Damn, hit me right in the feels with that ending. Honestly I don't shiny hunt, but everytime I run into one by accident it is very special and exciting. Thanks for all your effort and dedication you put into making these videos.
Dam now a purple charizard would been dope. And the black form shuda stay mega
Regarding Shiny Spinda:
It is actually not as difficult as it sounds to get two of the same pattern of Shiny Spinda.
Reminded me of my first shiney and how special it was to me.
coincidentally, i was shiny hunting for a starter in heartgold and got a shiny chikorita at the conclusion of your video!
That outro made me shed a slight tear. Officially inlove with your narrations fin, your new sub.
I remember catching a shiny pinsir during a bug catching contest in gold and thinking it was a team rocket pinsir because it also had an usual sprite sound.
I bet you won that bug catching contest because NPCs ingame tell you that you get more points by catching shinies
Hey phin been watching your twitch for a while and its awesome to see your channel pop off these past few weeks, you are doing sick keep it up :)
The evolution of Pokémon and system at the end really got me. It was absolutely beautiful and I thank you for that
I have a 4 facts
The only shiny tape you can legitimately get in gen 7 is Tapu Koko from an event with the OT as Mele Mele
There is a trainer is gen 7 with only 1 Pokémon a shiny eggsecute
In sword and shield you could get a shiny amoongus as a mystery gift
A legitimate non shiny zeraora is rarer than a legitimate shiny zeraora
Speaking of the Tapus, do you remember that the Z-Move was advertised showing a different color of the body for each Tapu used? But it never happened in the game when launched.
You can get ALL Tapu shinies legitimately in gen 7 via as rewards for joining online competitions, what do you mean only Tapu Koko is obtainable??
@@HereticHighlord well I just found out you could but only in USUM
The last minute of this video gave me goosebumps! Thank you
"If my math is correct...which it probably isn't I failed math, screw you miss pidami" 🤣
Bro seeing the shiny Giratina at the end nearly made me tear up. I spent nearly 3 years on and off soft resetting on Platinum for a shiny Giratina until I got one. Beautifully done my friend; keep up the good work.
6:35 Everyone go give this spinda a hug. Now.
