The Gen 5 intro shiny Mincchino so interesting! The reason why that is possible is actually because GF wanted to use an animated sprite for the intro's Pokemon for the first time instead of a static picture like the gens before! And instead programming one just for the intro, they copied the animation of a wild encounter Mincchino! That means each Mincchino in the intro gets the shiny roll any wild encounter Mincchino would get as well. That Egg hunt thing could actually work with a DNS server exploit that was found a few years back. It works on Gens 4 and 5 (5 tends to be much easier to set up) and actually gives you access to old Wi-Fi events.
@@SummonerArthur Admittedly, you'd have to have a pretty massive party of people working together, and every single one of them would have to do the right stuff perfectly. I don't trust that myself.

I looked up videos of hunting the gen 2 starters and heard someone mention it, it became very useful when I started resetting after seeing its gender.
The Nature-Back Sprite Animation relationship is only present in Diamond and Pearl (not Platinum, not HGSS). And it's not about the speed stat, it's about the name of the Nature (the character, personality) to put it simply. The groups are: Fast (1): Hardy, Brave, Adamant, Naughty, Impish, Jolly, Hasty, Naive. Normal (2): Bold, Docile, Relaxed, Lax, Serious, Rash, Calm, Sassy, Quirky. Slow (3): Lonely, Timid, Modest, Mild, Quiet, Bashful, Gentle, Careful. And the 1-2-3/fast-normal-slow groups aren't the actual time it takes to complete the animation, but rather the "excitement level" of the animation.
9:09 you never heard of Shiny PID trading? That was common on X&Y when perfect IV breeding became much easier and you could hack your game PID much easier on the 3DS. A lot of people would go on trading boards when they bred a perfect pokemon that wasn't shiny and needed someone else to hatch it shiny for them.
The natures in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum effecting the speed of how fast the pokeball is thrown out makes me wonder how it effects speed running. While it is a minor difference that can add up overtime and can maybe effect overall time in a glitchless run. It makes me wonder how many of the top runners for these games had +Speed natures for their main Pokémon
I doubt the speed bonus for throwing out doesn’t make up for stat damage bonus which is why most people run X set. Like you’re not going to save time if you have to two shot something instead of one shot bc you wanted your throw out time to be faster.
I've got a good fact for you, Rhydon is actually NOT the first Pokémon. That spot goes to Diglett, as one of the designers actually drew Diglett since they were a child, and just used the design for a Pokemon. That means Diglett is the first Pokemon in every literal sense

The shiny hunt is very similar to how people found guaranteed shinies back in Gen 6 in X and Y or it was in Sword and Shield who worked like that. There was some sort of ID resetting of the eggs that made you be able to keep resetting it with others to ensure you get the ID correct to make it a shiny.
I knew the Swanna reference lol. Also, in FR/LG, the TV in the player's living room has a reference to the Gen 1 games, but it normally isn't able to seen. If you use the walk through walls cheat, and check the side of the TV, it says "Oops, wrong side!" Which is what happens in R/B/Y Also, you made the point that it was only Gen 2 had that shiny set up.. however, Gen 1 Pokémon CAN be shiny, and it is also based on stats. While you can't see the shininess of the Pokémon if they are shiny in the Gen 1 games, you can trade them to Gen 2 and they will indeed be shiny.
I love the egg reference. It goes back to the manaphy egg you could shiny hunt for. I went crazy trying to find a game to get that egg. Then I found 2 games that were unclaimed.
Eggs in Sword and Shield behave as either shiny or non shiny, no matching of IDs exists, can only assume it'll be the same in BDSP, meaning the hunt is impossible if they shiny lock the manaphy
wow that was actually inspiring (the last bit about shiny manaphy egg) i really really hope it behaves in the same way. Definitely wanna be a part of that journey. Consider me subscribed lol
Fantastic insights. I particularly liked the ultra necrozma secret when you put the two box cartridges together. I enjoyed dozens more but that one stood out for me
I knew the female locked shinies in gen 2, the shiny minccino and cincinno, the shadow clone one! I knew more this time, but I still loved the video! Also, a multi-person manaphy shiny hunting sounds amazing. I would love to be a part of it.
The manaphy in bd/sp is confirmed locked due to how eggs in gen 8 work :( You can check out Anubis on twitter (mentioned in the vid in a different fact actually) for more info
The ones I knew: 12% females unable to be shiny The Double team one (Naruto was almost my entire childhood lmao). Gen 5 being the best The Gen 5 shinies Other than that, everything else was new to me ^^ That last one though sounds hella interesting, I would love to see it go down
Wait, the fact that I wasn't supposed to know at 5:16 is just Double Team's move description? lol As a seasoned genwunner, I'm still loving these videos. I didn't know the majority of these fun facts! haha
I didn't know any of these. Nice to see there's still mysteries hidden in one of my favorite game series. But, at 5:20, I thought Pokemon was older than Naruto? How can Double Team be based on something that didn't exist yet?
The eggs you were talking about from gen 5 are still obtainable, in fact all of the events from gens 4 and 5 are obtainable. I recently have started hunting for a living dex, and I was able to get not only the eggs you are talking about, but multiple shiny event Pokemon and even all the gen 5 mythicals. While the manaphy egg hunt won't work, those could
Sorry for commenting months later, but how is that possible? I just got BW2 from a friend and knowing all the content I missed is a bit saddening. If it is possible to get those gift Pokémon without either hacking or file manipulation (jail breaking is hard man) then I’d love to know!
@@februus7910 someone set up a server that acts like the events, all you need to do is to fuck with your ds's internet options. If you search for it on RUclips there's a video about it
One thing I bet people don't know is that the physical/special split was first introduced in Gen 3, via XD: Gale of Darkness. This only applied to shadow moves, which were classified as having no type, so for example, Shadow Rush was a physical attack, whereas Shadow Wave was a special attack.
Oh, so speedrunners would probably wanna speedrun pokemon platinum etc with a plus speed nature... interesting Also I am so excited for a manaphy egg, but I'm not gonna trade it away for another egg in hopes for a shiny. I want a shiny of every one of the legendaries... but that's too much. Although to be fair if you could trade an egg for another egg and others had what was clearly manaphy eggs in the online services, I'd be willing to try cycling through eggs that way... if it's confirmed possible. At the very least I'll store the egg and not hatch it till it is confirmed.
Werster actually commented on that, and apparently it's not Speed related but Nature related. So Chimchar can have a short entrance in one Nature, but Infernape will have a long entrance for the same Nature. Or vice versa. And apparently it's also on Emerald in some way, if I got this right.
Actually, the Gen 4 and Gen 5 Mystery Gifts are available through a DNS exploit. I got the mystery egg a few months ago. Edit: It also enables WiFi services. :)
In the gen 4 games (platinum I believe specifically), you could go to the union room with other players and each player would contribute an egg. The eggs would all spin, and which ever egg landed in front of you became yours. Super cool idea.
I just recently got into pokemon and found your channel. I enjoy watching these videos, especially since these are things that I missed out on. Keep up the good work!
Here's another fact you DONT know: The Kage Bunshin no Jutsu sound used on the Naruto anime, is the very same sound used on the game Quake when you appear from a teleport.
I knew about the shiny minchino in black and white, the professor throwing it out. In total I have known around 5 facts so far of all the vids. Good quality
5:00 This place also only has Bug Type encounters. This is a nod to how many bugs and glitches there were in the original Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.
2:14 "For whatever reason" As someone who knows quite a bit about Gen 2 mechanics determined by IVs let me explain. A Pokémon was shiny if its Defense, Speed, and Special IVs were all 10, and its Attack IV was either 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, or 15. A female Pokémon of a species with a gender ratio of 7M:1F could only have an Attack IV of 0 or 1, and thus not be shiny.
Very interesting story about one of these. I was gonna go to the event that launched on April 27th, 2011, but mother nature had other plans. There was a terrible tornado outbreak that day in the deep south. I spent my day helping keep the roads clear of fallen trees and debris so emergency vehicles could get through. Later that week, I found out that the closest Toys-R-Us was hit and needed extensive repairs, so the event never happened.
Dude that trade shiny hunt sounds so cool, I really wanna see that happen and watch like, a documentary just on that if the right trainer is ever found. You also could feasibly still do this on the DS if you use one of the fan servers. There's even a server that distributes exact copies of random event pokemon from Gens IV and V that you could get the Mystery eggs from.
Great video! There was actually an instance of an event pokemon taking you to a hidden location beyond Gen 4 though... I remember an event early in Gen 5 where you went to an island to catch Victini
I though there was an area made for Victini in Black and White. The first WiFi Event in Pokémon Black & White gives you the special item, the Liberty Pass, which gives you access to a special area in Unova where you will find the Pokémon Victini in the wild. This allows you to capture Victini and is the only way to obtain it.
I hadn’t heard of the majority of these and I’m a Pokémon nerd. Because of this and your opinion that gen 5 is the best (which is correct), you have earned a sub. Thank you.

Also, you made the point that it was only Gen 2 had that shiny set up.. however, Gen 1 Pokémon CAN be shiny, and it is also based on stats. While you can't see the shininess of the Pokémon if they are shiny in the Gen 1 games, you can trade them to Gen 2 and they will indeed be shiny.
Can’t gen 1 Pokémon only be shiny with specific ones
@@thecommentato4 certain Gen 2 are like that, but not sure about any Gen 1. Like Unown I and V are the only possible shiny Unown
Love all your RUclips content Phin! I can't wait to see what you do for Brilliant Diamond and Shining pearl!
Okay I laughed out loud at the spongebob narrator going “ah…THE SAFARI ZONE”
This is what my boy is doing nowadays
I'm really loving these videos. I can't believe you actually have facts no one else talks about or knows!!
You missed an opportunity to say "Did you know pokemon and naruto might have more in common than you think? Believe it!" you done MESSED UP PHIN
I love the egg reference. It goes back to the manaphy egg you could shiny hunt for. I went crazy trying to find a game to get that egg. Then I found 2 games that were unclaimed.
pov: u didnt know fearow was colorblind
couldnt be me 😅
Eggs in Sword and Shield behave as either shiny or non shiny, no matching of IDs exists, can only assume it'll be the same in BDSP, meaning the hunt is impossible if they shiny lock the manaphy
wow that was actually inspiring (the last bit about shiny manaphy egg) i really really hope it behaves in the same way. Definitely wanna be a part of that journey. Consider me subscribed lol
Fantastic insights. I particularly liked the ultra necrozma secret when you put the two box cartridges together. I enjoyed dozens more but that one stood out for me
I thought that one was really interesting too! Even tho it’s right in front of us, I thought it was still quite obscure and not many had noticed!
@@BlueBoyPhin What is your Twitter handle? I will follow you
I knew the female locked shinies in gen 2, the shiny minccino and cincinno, the shadow clone one! I knew more this time, but I still loved the video!
Also, a multi-person manaphy shiny hunting sounds amazing. I would love to be a part of it.
Pokémon puzzle league was a staple in my before school life at my day care.
Reverse shiny hunting holy shit. If I didn't think BDSP might totally not be worth it I would be all over this too.
Good luck gamers.
The manaphy in bd/sp is confirmed locked due to how eggs in gen 8 work :(
You can check out Anubis on twitter (mentioned in the vid in a different fact actually) for more info
I just watched all of your obscure facts Playlist and now subscribed!
Welcome to the community! Thank you so much for watching!!
oh damn, I can't wait for the Manaphy hunt, that sounds so cool!
4:59 It's the circuit board of Pokemon Red/Green cartridges
The ones I knew:
12% females unable to be shiny
The Double team one (Naruto was almost my entire childhood lmao).
Gen 5 being the best
The Gen 5 shinies
Other than that, everything else was new to me ^^
That last one though sounds hella interesting, I would love to see it go down
Wait, the fact that I wasn't supposed to know at 5:16 is just Double Team's move description? lol
As a seasoned genwunner, I'm still loving these videos. I didn't know the majority of these fun facts! haha
I didn't know any of these. Nice to see there's still mysteries hidden in one of my favorite game series. But, at 5:20, I thought Pokemon was older than Naruto? How can Double Team be based on something that didn't exist yet?
So they aren’t actually based on each other but rather a similar “trope” in Japanese lore regarding ninjas and stuff!
7:35 omg summoning salt song, I was 100% sure the next fact would be something related to speedrunning
Manaphy shiny hunt sounds like a dope discord event!
Apparently it's not possible anymore since SwSh...
great video phin! love to see the facts that i have come to learn as a shiny hunter! but that love confession was cute as hell i cant lie ;-;
Thanks dude!! And thanks for finding that staryu thing!! Probably my favorite thing on the list!
10:19 well played
So real talk, I actually DIDN'T know that Spearow was colorblind.
8:25
"After generation 4"
Wait. No.
Gen 5 had Liberty Garden for Victini, and that was "event exclusive".
You're killing it, man!
thanks linky!
Tf, I didn't know Spearow was colourblind. Not even the first fact and I've learned something smh
8:25 Gen 5 has a specials event area for victini, so technically it ends gen 5, the best gen
Oh, so speedrunners would probably wanna speedrun pokemon platinum etc with a plus speed nature... interesting
Also I am so excited for a manaphy egg, but I'm not gonna trade it away for another egg in hopes for a shiny.
I didnt know sperrow was colorblind
THE FIRST R IN SPEAROW IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN A!
Regarding the first fact on this list: I’d actually noticed that before but never had any idea what caused it! Really interesting!
7:00 Ok that one got me
That one is easy
In the gen 4 games (platinum I believe specifically), you could go to the union room with other players and each player would contribute an egg. The eggs would all spin, and which ever egg landed in front of you became yours. Super cool idea.
6:45 ok so imagine a bus
I love that you used Aquatic Ambience in this. I have like four versions of that track on my iPod.
The first fact is not accurate, the type of animation does not rely specifically on speed being altered. Different natures will have 1 of 3 animations
This is all so genuinely interesting content! I did know three of these, but the ones I did not know are so cool! Excellent job!
Thank you!
5:52 That is a fact

Yes it is
I just recently got into pokemon and found your channel. I enjoy watching these videos, especially since these are things that I missed out on. Keep up the good work!
Here's another fact you DONT know:
The Kage Bunshin no Jutsu sound used on the Naruto anime, is the very same sound used on the game Quake when you appear from a teleport.
0:55 no, it affects the pokemon entrance animation, not the PokeBall throw animation
It’s very funny coming back to Pokémon with these videos
phin these are great!! im sick in bed rn and it's one of the lovely things I'm able to watch without leaving my ears ringing
Comments like this really keep me going! Thank you so much for watching and enjoying and taking the time to comment this! hope you feel better soon!
I knew about the shiny minchino in black and white, the professor throwing it out. In total I have known around 5 facts so far of all the vids. Good quality
5:00 This place also only has Bug Type encounters. This is a nod to how many bugs and glitches there were in the original Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.
your question mark is the question mark that the hiker in sootopolis throws out as a Pokemon
2:14 "For whatever reason"
As someone who knows quite a bit about Gen 2 mechanics determined by IVs let me explain.
Leave it to Gary Motherfucking Oak to have an event egg that is locked against hatching a shiny with a 1/8192 chance to hatch a shiny.
The pre-order victini in black and white was a event that was an in game new location
Ouch...
Now that Manaphy reverse shiny hunt is the coolest Pokemon fact I've ever learned.
Also I knew 2 of the entries
I actually didn't know Spearow was colorblind. =(
I hadn’t heard of the majority of these and I’m a Pokémon nerd. Because of this and your opinion that gen 5 is the best (which is correct), you have earned a sub. Thank you.
Has to do with a frame rule? *Imagine a bus...*
I actually didn't knew spearrow was color blind
3:55 Running thru the whole series rn. I just stopped to say I played and LOVED Pokémon puzzle league/challenge. My mom played and LOVED Pokémon puzzle league challenge. Some of my best friends and I still play it as adults!
I’ve never heard that sound tho lol
great video dude. that manaphy thing would be so cool if it actually was possible. keep it up
Thanks Wilson!! Yeah sadly the bad news about the egg got posted literally the day after I posted the vid
Generation 5 had the last "new location" event with the Victini event. Which of course is way less than gen 4, but i just thought id mention
I played Pokemon Puzzle League religiously as a kid and loved going through the voice bank and I still didn't know this one haha
