Also I forgot to mention that the shiny odds swaying mainly only applies to roamers and eggs!
I wrote it in, but it must have gotten mixed up in the takes, don't think that takes away from the coolness of the fact at all though!

I’ll be live on Twitch a bunch now that BDSP is out! Doing shiny hunts and challenge runs! We have an amazing community over there and I wanna interact with more of my subscribers! Come say hi! - twitch.tv/blueboyphin
These are interesting facts. I'm glad I joined the server as well. I get many good Pokemon talks there
Second time every unknown shiny odd we’re one effected by your ID it swayed somewhere around 1 in 5096 to 1 in 16870
Also the follow Mechanic was only hgss
Gen 2 fact if a pokemon is asleep and you bring in that pokemon it won't do its cry
You just earned yourself a subscriber with this video.
As an Australian, 8:50 had me tearing apart my shelves to find my copy of Diamond. Lo and behold, it does indeed say Dialga rules space. Love having this useless fact in my possession!
That’s awesome!! Exacty what I was hoping would happen! Hang on to it!!
@@BlueBoyPhin Definitely will!!!
i did the same thing hahahahahahaha, this is insane
Keep the covers and the games in good conditions, they may be worth something in the future
My copy does too!
I mean, these may be small, obscure little facts, but I prefer them to things like "DID YOU KNOW RHYDON WAS THE FIRST POKENOARTNDNFLPFFFFFFFFFFF"
Rhydon*
@@590488 these nuts
It's not even. Almost nobody talks about how Diglit was. In one of the games it is said that Diglet was designed before the idea of Pokemon ever came up. So technically it predates Pokemon and is therefore not the first POKEMON design depending on how you look at it, but it is the first Pokemon that WAS designed.
@@t.dmattocks6119 who?

10:43 Trainer ID, Secret ID and the ability Cute Charm could affect shiny chances in gen 4. What a coincidence that it returned in Diamond and Pearl remakes with glitches like the Surfing on land and void glitch, which were also present in Diamond and Pearl. Really faithful remakes.
At this point I legitimately believe they did it to stay faithful lmao
From what I've heard, they basically received the DP source code from GF themselves and retooled it for Unity and new stuff (e.g. Fairy-type) since Gen IV. No idea how true that is, but it would genuinely make sense.
@Sampanna you are correct, sid is the determining factor for shinys. Tid is for all the other values like what Pokémon appears, nature, ivs are on a given frame
how do these things affect shiny odds?
@@sadie86 I’m not sure how these new games work so I couldn’t tell ya lol. For the old games the Secret ID is what determines shininess. A lot of people think it’s 1/8192 per encounter but that’s actually not necessarily the case. The game generates a seed every time it’s booted up and has a set of frames that have all the stats including shininess on their predetermined frame. Frames get advanced in numerous different ways like npc’s walking, encountering wild Pkmn, and many more. Each time one of these things happen frames get advanced which means that npcs walking for example could move you past a shiny 😭😭
The ability to use cut on wild grass patches is a memory I never knew I had. That nostalgia hit HAAAARD.
Dude same. Little things that I had forgotten about for years
Yep, I discovered it by accidentally using Cut in Grass
Great memories
Wait what games
@@addvctxdmusic9759 I saw it in LeafGreen
I actually really like the "cut makes the grass go away" thing in Hoenn. I've used it in nuzlockes to save encounters for later guaranteed
I think Gen. III was the last generation that you could do this in... but I might be wrong. I know it's definitely present in the first three generations- but I think after Hoenn they removed the feature for good.
It was a nice little trick that a lot of people didn't know about back then; really makes my childhood nostalgia hit pretty hard whenever I think about it 🙃 😅
I thought it was the only way to go through tall grass (the ones in Route 119) because I was a dumb kind and never get off my bicycle.
@@jesaea I love this ^ 😂 that's so funny lol
I hate that it's not in the newer games.
This is so nuts to me. I’ve been playing Pokémon for almost 20 years now and I had no idea that you could do that with cut. I had to rewind the video because I thought it was a mod lmao
Fun fact about Struggle, it can actually be used if some moves still have PP. These moves just have to be under the effects of Disable, or other moves that force you to use other moves.
A notable example is if a Pokémon with only status moves is Taunted
@@CaptainObliviousV Or if you get Tormented and only have one move.
Or you run out of pp of a move that you're locked into with a choice item, not that obscure
You don't even have to disable every move. A combination of encore and disable does the trick.
@@bewill5121 Or if you have an Assault vest on a Pokémon with only status moves (idk why you would do that, but it does force you to use struggle)
Here is a theory. When Lyra calls about her Marill evolving, look at the wording. She says, "I turned to look at it and saw it evolving into an Azumarill."
Note how she didn't say the evolution went through, if it did, she most likely would've said, "I turned to look at it and it evolved into an Azumarill."
That probably means she saw it evolving, but decided to cancel the evolution and keep it as a Marill.
Also could be she got another Marill
4:13 That Quagsire is so happy to flip off everyone entering the cave
There should be a move "fog" or "foggy day" to be a counterpart to defog. But then instead of making pokemon randomly miss moves, fog should increase speed and accuracy of water and ice types, I think that would be cool!
And Splash should at least raise evasion slightly.
Game freak hire them!! ^
I mean, theres mist.
@@BlueBoyPhin Well, Game Freak sold Pokemon to Nintendo, so I guess you would have to ask Nintendo to hire him!
@@alex33344 I am pretty sure Game Freak still owns the pokemon games and Nintendo just publishes them.
1:17 Another fun fact: Magnezone's sprite in Diamond and Pearl had the completely black magnets, but they changed it to the red and blue magnets in its Platinum and Heartgold/Soulsilver sprite.
didnt know that one!!
@@BlueBoyPhin Another fun fact:
At the Heahea City Game Freak office in Pokémon Sun and Moon, Shigeki Morimoto states that he made up Diglett when he was a little kid.
Diglett is the *actual* first Pokemon, it just wasn't a Pokemon yet.
Bulbasaur is the first in the Dex
Mew is the first genetic ancestor
Arceus is the first in universe Pokemon
Rhydon is the first designed as a Pokemon
And Diglett was the first Pokemon designed.
"Who is the first Pokemon" is quite the trick question.
@@t.dmattocks6119 You have a really good point there.
@@BlueBoyPhin And they are still completely black in BDSP
@@t.dmattocks6119 So Diglett is the Poke-god now.
I’m someone who has had a special interest in pokemon my whole life and therefore knows a lot about it. But I only knew about three of these facts, and with your other videos too I always learn a few facts. Your video quality is great and I love that you spend the time to give unique fats that nobody talks about.
I'm in the same boat!! I always watch videos like these to get as much info as possible about the franchise, but I can rarely find anything with so much effort put into finding obscure facts (and with such good delivery)
I knew a majority of them but glad to finally find a video where I did not just know all of them.
“Vanillite is probably agreed on as one of the worst designs ever”
NO NO THEY’RE GREAT I LOVE THEM
“But I secretly like them that’s a secret between you and me”
oh. :D
Anyone who played through BW without the Vanillite line is missing the fuck out. They may be defensive jokes but both their attack stats are godly. Literally wiped out Drayden with almost nothing but my Vanillish. Her name is Zircon, show her love :>
Yeah I don't understand why it's so hated. I mean it's not my favorite Pokemon (not because I don't like it, I just like some other ones more), but it's freaking adorable ;w;
@@Faux_Sunlight I AM SHOWING ZIRCON SO MUCH OVE YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW
I used one in sword!!! Cookie the destroyer!!! Scourge of dragons!!! Dynamax nightmare!!! Behold the power!!!
I think its more if a follow up of Gen 5 hate...the mist innovative yet the worst accepted gen.
The get rid of the ability to use the previous gen Pokemon before end game, have more "heavy" theme (the idealist vs realist), making it more of a standalone alternate universe pokemon rather than another region.
Sure for some moderate player this a great fresh air of change for the franchise (each series become more independent, we can have an actual preference rather than traditional belongings, pushing the creativity to the limit because no old mons in main story and they need to create >150 mons per series, etc) but for die hard loyal fans, this viewed as a heresy. And because its happen in the dawn age of social media & hate speech, those negative view become very loud.
They start hating on every single thing they can hate on gen 5. Without any objective comparison or view. Vanilite bad? How? Sure it has object-like appearance, but if they read the description, it just an icicle stalactite with some snow on top. The truly bad design with object-like appearance with no explanation whatsoever are Voltorb and Eggxecute. Vanilite is no more than a natural object that get animated, just like Geodude and Boldore.
But because of the loud hate speech, nobody ever consider this. And that is sad.
I LOVE VANILLISH!
Also support this Phin, he’s the new wave!
Just last night I caught a shiny Vanillite in Black.
Yeah it's so cute 😌
Hello Rev
Same, so cute and simple
Vanillinish is ok, his evolutions however are not
Muk cant learn Toxic in BDSP, despite it being reintroduced as a TM. Golbat also can't learn it, but its evolution, Crobat, can. Also, Toxic has had its universal compatibility removed and only a handful of pokemon can learn it.
I’m kinda happy that it’s more special tbh
Okay.....
1) How can Muk, literal sludge not know toxic?
2) When did Toxic not become 100% learnable D:?
@@nostalgicumbry3279 Sword and Shield iirc
@@apokemontrainer2873 SS really messed up a lot in term of balance
I caught onto the Lyra inconsistency when I first played HGSS and noticed she still had a Marill on her. It was so offputting to me that whenever I think of Lyra I think of this “Azumarill” Marill more than her actual character
It was a translation error apparently
4:28 I see that cheeky shiny Ghastly back there. Great video, as always!
I don't dislike the fact that Pokémon aren't their real size in the overworld, but at least they could have made them chibi too
Fog had the best side effect in DPP. I enjoyed the Acid rain glitch. Hard to set up but amusing when it triggers
These may be obscure and “useless” but at least I’ve never heard them before which makes it interesting to watch 🥰 great video!
Thanks Dawnette!!
Right! Most of the videos I've come across about pokemon facts are all stuff that most of us already know. It was nice to find a video that gave us all new facts
My favourite obscure fact is that GSC's level ball is completely broken. It skips the big catch rate calculation (ignoring HP and status conditions) and just makes it the Pokémon's catch rate divided by 256. But the Level Ball's effect also applies, meaning if your active Pokémon has a level 4 times higher than the opponent, your odds get multiplied by 8.
What this means is that if you have a level 100 Pokémon and you encounter a wild Pokémon under level 25 with a catch rate above 31, you are guaranteed to catch it. Even then you'll have an easy time catching anything that isn't a legendary.
Now, consider how low level Johto's wild Pokémon are. Feel free to grind Red Apricorns from Route 37, on the right as you leave Ecruteak from the south.
Even funnier is the fact that due to a coding error, the Moon Ball in GSC increases the catch rate of Pokemon evolved by a Burn Heal.
@@Kris2005isMine and Love Ball works if the genders are the same, instead of if they're different.
I think Heavy Ball and/or Fast Ball also don't work properly.
@@renakunisaki
Glitches have a long and glorious history in the Pokemon franchise, but the early games definitely have some of the most hilarious ones.
@@renakunisaki
I don't remember what the actual glitch on the Heavy Ball is, but I remember that on the Fast Ball, it's coded in such a way that it only works on specific Pokemon that can run away. Pineco, Magnemite, and something else, iIrc.
Tangela! :)
8:10 there is a patch of grass on Route 32 that has a similar property. It was only present in HG/SS, but not the originals. It was likely added to give players a chance to find Mareep early for Falkner's gym.
The only fact out of all of your fact videos that I already knew was the fact that in Sword and Shield, you can find shiny Pokémon by making curries in camp. I knew this because when I watched that video for the first time, I was already about 4.5 thousand curries into my curry shiny hunt that I've been working on for 6 months!! Other than that, all of these facts are so incredible and new to me!!! You're awesome Phin!!!
Best of luck on your curry hunt!! Thank you so much for watching and enjoying!!! You’re awesome!
@@BlueBoyPhin Thank you so much! I look forward to your next uploads!

Huhuh woah. Mortis Media is a pokemon fan too. Hey dude.
*Whispers* 'Mortis media'
Great video as always! I only knew about AZ’s Floette’s unused move, and that was because I found the whole thing so fascinating.
Wow I'm geniunly impressed by a pokemon fact video. You really do a great job looking for obscure facts, congrats. Love your videos!
These are by far my favorite videos of yours, learning is fun especially when you're learning useless facts!
I'm extremely interested in the shiny odds information, I hope someone does a deeper dive at some point c:
I played the hell out of Crystal back in the day and always used that obscure patch of grass to catch Growlithe if I ever started with Chikorita or Totodile as accessing a fire type so early on in the game seemed very hard. It was only when I played gold and silver and the remakes I was gutted that the patch of grass wasn't there and thought that my version of Crystal was a fake, so now learning this fact puts my mind at ease, thank you haha
1:08 Lyra more like Lyar
Ar ar ar ar ar ar
I love you man! You always make such interesting & entertaining videos. I've literally grown up with this franchise (I still remember my grandma buying Red for me at Video Games Express when it first came out in the states... god I feel so old now) and yet I _still_ learn something new whenever I watch one of your videos.
For what it's worth, your dedication to finding all these little facts- no matter how good or bad or unimportant you think they might be- is very much appreciated 🙃 I know it can't be easy to try and find facts that *nobody's* heard about before with a franchise as popular and as long running as Pokémon. Great video dude! 💯
Awesome video as always phin! LOVING the new style of content youve been doing the past while.
honestly thank u so much for doing what u do, i have been obsessively learning about pokémon for so long that it’s rly hard to find facts that i don’t already know and i actually learn some new things from ur vids. even if the facts are small and insignificant, it feeds my hunger for pokemon knowledge. most other pokémon fact videos i can find r like “DID U KNOW MISSINGNO EXIST???” or “DID U KNOW POKÉMON GREEN EXIST???”
I knew about the Lyra thing because it happened to me, but I’m glad it’s still in this! I wasn’t sure if it was a wild dream. Great video and series!
4:27 that shiny gastly tho👀 also 10/10 video as usual you’ll be at 100k subs quick at this rate keep it up!
Man that MKW WiFi menu theme and Sonic Unleashed OST are really nostalgic, you brought back some old memories. And I did not know any of these facts, great video!
Great video as always, phin. I love learning about stuff I didn't know.
That was fantastic! I love all the obscure random fact videos, they're so much fun!
Fun fact: in gen 5 theres a set of trees near the back of the giant chasm where you can walk right through like using the walk though wall glitch/cheat. :)
Yeah, I was surprised to find that when I was playing in 2013, I was so confused at first
@@piplup_person7475 wow I didn't get any notifications.
And did you also know the same glitch is in BW1 in the 7th gym. You can pass through a rock and skip the final black belt. ;)
@@To-New-Beginnings. yeah, that one is pretty cool as well
@@piplup_person7475 gotta love finding these little glitches. Lol
You may think not everyone will be interested in this but I love these small little obscure facts! Also this led me to finding your channel and now I can binge more videos!
Love these kinds of fact videos. Definitely a refreshing bit of originality to them. Well done!
Thanks a ton!!
I didn’t know any of these random facts, so interesting to learn about them! Just checked my Australian Diamond copy, and yeah never knew that about that error until now!
4:20 Yes, the Reason it's classified as a Cave instead of a Building due to the fact, that you have wild encounters in them. I guess they just didn't want to program "Building with possible encounters" for two buildings.
I actually really enjoyed this! Most are facts i've never heard except the patch of grass in silver, I just happened to remember that when you pointed it out! Good content.
Always a charming and surprising video! I’m super glad to watch these! Did you know that Pidgey is not a pidgeon but actually a house sparrow. Biology wise, it’s a sparrow. (I’m hoping to do a Pokémon biology mini series.)
10:45 your trainer ID is actually important in Gen 4 games and can be used to execute a glitch known as the cute charm glitch, which can get you up to a 1/5 shiny rate with some stipulations
Fog has reappeared in Legends Arceus, again with the moves missing attribute.
Though it also makes Pokemon less likely to see the player, but also makes Pokeballs easier to escape.
3:35 the heck we will🤣 and I hope you bring forth more obscure facts as you find them😃 you're pretty awsome, man👍
Loved the video phin, great job as always!
Thanks doctor strange!!
I caught a shiny Aipom in Legends Arceus, literally my first legit shiny that wasn't handed to me or cheated in. I've been playing Pokemon for over a decade now (since B&W), granted I've never shiny hunted really (though I did try the Masuda method to no avail once or twice a long time ago)
My first one was also in Legends Arceus. I wonder if it has a higher shiny chance like Let's Go did
@@davidtaylor142 fairly sure it's just easier cause of how they spawn pokemon or something
Got a buizel in arceus as my first honest shiny
As always, your content is flawless. You always bring out that incredible Pokémon-nostalgia that's so precious to me when I watch these videos!!! Keep up the golden content!!!!
The fact about Shiny Sparkles being a random particle effect is my favourite 😍😍😍
Thanks for an awesome Pokémon vid Phin and Merry Christmas 🎁🎄💙🐱💙🎄🎁
Glad you liked the video!! That might be my favorite too! Merry Christmas!!
BlueBoyPhin thanks for the reply! 2 things I remember so clearly from the GameBoy day’s are the Shiny Graveller I found on Victory Road (
who immediately Self-destructed on me (it was Gen II, might’ve been Crystal) ... but the other was weird, and I swear to Satoshi Tajiri this is true: I found a Wild Nidoking in Pokémon Yellow (I remember the Pikachu sprite following me), lv34 on the “Badge Walk” (the part where you show your badges to get to Victory Road). Sadly I didn’t catch it and spent the rest of my Yellow phase looking for another wild Nidoking (never found a second btw).
I’m not sure if this was a random glitch in my cartridge or what but I remember it so clearly 😕😕😕
Thanks again for the vid and have a Merry Christmas 🎁🎄💙🐱💙🎄🎁
Mannnnn I got so excited when I heard the rooftop run song! Thanks for always picking the best music and nourishing me with niche pokefacts
I knew the light of ruin one, because it made the move legal in hackmons and balanced hackmons, an online, serious a with a surprisingly large amount of players, based on the idea that you can (mostly) any ability, attacks and items to any pokemon. It being in the game files provided the format a nuclear fairy type move that was pretty dope.
Just found your channel a couple weeks ago! I love the content, keep up the great work!
Hi blueboyphin! I love your Videos! I play Pokemon since my childhood and everytime I watch a Video from you I get a big smile in my Face 😁 keep the great work up and I will stay tuned to you. Much respect to you and all of US pokefans !! 💯💯🔥
tbh the vanillite line should have gotten the fairy typing in gen vi, and i think it would be marginally less hated if that were the case (at the very least the 4x resistance to dragon would probs be useful). i haven't used them in any of my games (i don't often put ice-types on my team as there are different types that have the same/better strengths with different/better weaknesses) but i really love the whole line. it's adorbs!
*immunity to Dragon, also I agree
"this video is so stupid no one's gonna watch this" made me laugh, these really are the most pointless, most technical, stupid facts but i LOVE this video!!
This video is the reason i subbed, really enjoyed you definitely earned it!
So glad I stumbled across this video, finally a facts video where its stuff I haven't heard before!
I know you’re a busy person, and life is well, a busy thing, I just wanted to take some time out of my day (currently on lunch at work) to let you know, thank you for the quality content, the editing, commentary, and the facts themselves are amazing! I hope you have an amazing day I can’t wait for more videos
I always thought that the Magnezone magnet tips losing colour was an error in specific cases that was never fixed.
i'm surprised i can still find videos that teach me stuff i had no idea about, good job!
Bruh, best vid ever. As a lifelong fan, facts like these are so interesting to me. Please keep up the search!
3:35 Nope, no one 😜
I caught my first shiny outside of Pokemon GO in Brilliant Diamond (it only took 20 years)! It's interesting to think that I may have had slightly better odds of catching it than in previous games.
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
I appreciate your videos, I been a pokemon fan since Gen 1 and a lot of these facts in all your videos I never knew!
I was gonna start crying if people said Vanillite was designed badly 😭 I absolutely love that thing man 🥲
Rock Tomb probably somehow got confused with Rock Slide, which is an AOE move that can flinch. This is weird because in Pokemon Masters Rock Tomb also got confused with Rock Throw which caused somethings to be nonfunctional for a short time.
Top tier video, good shit keep these obscure facts coming
Will do!! glad you enjoyed!
Ah yes BlueBoyPhin, one of my new favorite RUclipsrs, great video as always!
Honestly, nitpicky little details like this are exactly my kind of thing, I love it

I knew everything in the intro lol, like the different battle intro animations for higher levels, & that you could cut grass (you could do this since red/blue), also love the Wario Land 4 music :D
this is the kind of video i live for
They may be kinda stupid, obscure, useless facts, but this is the first of these "things you didn't know about pokemon" videos that actually had a bunch of things I didn't know. In fact I didn't know most of them. So I'll take that over the typical "did you know the music in lavender town actually drove people insane?!?!??1?" bs lol! Good video!
great vid didnt know any of these facts
I do quite enjoyed these and I think u should put countdown whenever new fact starts, since I sometimes get confuse as to when a fact telling is finish or not.
i always feel weirdly proud when i know a fact in these videos lol. one small fact that i can kind of remember is in hgss, on the roof of a building in celadon city your character's shadow isn't visible and it looks like you're floating slightly above the ground.
I love your vids man!
I love learning something new about the games I love
I like that the Pokewalker that came with HGSS was a throwback to the Pokemon Pikachu toys that you were meant to clip to your belt and walk around with, PP2 being able to give gifts via infared to the original G/S/C games.

How happy was I to hear Gran Turismo 4 OST come on in a Pokemon video, out of all places? Nostalgia hitting hard
