  • The 4L60E is one of the most commonly used transmissions from GM and can be found in applications like the Chevy Trailblazer, Silverado, GMC Envoy, Oldsmobile Bravada, Saab 9-7X, and many more. Although it is a very popular transmission. It can be very unreliable. The #1 enemy of these transmissions is heat! In today's video. We upgrade my Chevy Trailblazer's transmission cooling system by installing an upgraded transmission cooler from Derale. With the help of the Derale 8000 series transmission cooler. The transmission temps should stay down and help extend the life of my new 4L60E. In this video, I show you all of the tools you will need for this installation and show you step-by-step how to upgrade your transmission cooling system so you can extend the life of your 4L60E transmission. If you found this video helpful, please give it a THUMBS UP and SUBSCRIBE to the channel for upcoming Trailblazer content. Thank you all for the continued support! Yes there are more Trailblazer videos on the way. Last week’s video was supposed to be a Trailblazer video. I made a video on how to rebuild your center console armrest and the video was great until it came to assembly and installation. The rebuild kit that I bought from eBay had terrible alignment with the bolt holes for the upper lid and underside. I was able to assemble it but when I went to install it. It didn’t work as it should. So I ended up having to use the upper portion from my OEM center console and the lower latching portion from the rebuild kit. I was very disappointed with the quality of the kit and ended up deleting that video because I didn’t want anyone to buy the same rebuild kit and have installation issues. But yeah. Trailblazer videos are coming soon. 😃👍🏼

      Thanks man! I appreciate it! Honestly, I have my hands full with content off of my own vehicles at the moment. Maybe one day if I ever run short on content. Or if you get another Miata I would love to pick some content up off that as it falls in line with my Miata content. I’m trying to stick to content that I can create regularly. So for right now Suzuki SV650/SV1000 content, Chevy Trailblazer content, Miata content, and then next year I’ll be adding my CRF250R and my sons JR50 to the channel to add some more variety in.

    The round plastic piece you called a dust cover is actually a much more important piece, i learned the hard way 😅 it holds tension inward on that little snap ring thats under it. Without that little bit of tension from that plastic piece, the transmission line can force that ring off and cause you to blow a line out. Happened to me at 60mph and 2hrs from home on the interstate

      My Trailblazer hit 250,500 miles and the transmission finally decided to go out. But after replacing it. She’s back on the road and driving perfect again. I hope I can get another quarter million miles out of my Trailblazer. It has been one of the best vehicles I’ve ever owned. I paid $2,500 for it about 4 or 5 years ago. Prices have almost tripled since then. I’m glad I got mine for a good deal. I hope yours continues to last you many miles 🙂

    Just to back up your " public service announcement" at the end. definitely....definitely do a leak/drive/switch through all gears. Glad i did, i had to use a heat gun like you to put hose over the flares. I had a catastrophic failure at the hose. Luckily didnt drive far. Thinking the heat gun weakened the hose? Anyway...i lost just about a quart of fluid. Gave myself extra hose during install luckily. Cut the failed area and reinstalled...no leaks yet. Hopefully fixed the issue.

    So the 2 hoses coming off the cooler don't have a specific way they go on. Dosen't matter which hose goes where when they attach to the factory linesn

    • @rabmanrabman
      @rabmanrabman 10 месяцев назад +2

      @adamharlow8124 the part where he cut instead of cutting mine I cut one from the donor and just ran my hose off the uncut end of mine and then used the scrap one for the other end. That way if I needed to remove the cooler instead of my line being cut I could just pull the hose off and plug it right back in to the quick connect

    My transmission finally blew does the trans cooler make a difference and if so I’m going to get a used trans do you think it would help it out?

    • @PASSIONBUILT
      @PASSIONBUILT  Год назад +1

      The transmission cooler definitely helps keep the temps down. Since I’ve installed my rebuilt transmission, it has been shifting perfectly and hasn’t had any issues. I highly recommend just getting your existing unit rebuilt or buy a rebuilt unit if you have the means for it. Installing a used 4L60E isn’t ideal unless it has known low mileage and has been fully tested with no signs of slipping. I made a separate video of where I got my 4L60E from. Check it out.

  • @adamharlow8124
    @adamharlow8124 10 месяцев назад

    sorry I'm a bit slow and maybe a silly question. but so with this mod you did, your running the fluid through the radiator and also the aux cooler? so you didn't delete the original cooler you just are now running essentially 2 coolers?

    • @PASSIONBUILT
      @PASSIONBUILT  9 месяцев назад

      Yes. Im running it inline with the factory system. The factory system is inadequate. Unlike the Silverados that got an independent functional transmission cooler. The Trailblazer just got one built into the radiator tank so it doesn’t really do much cooling. This remote cooler helps reduce transmission temps much better than the factory “cooler”.

    • @PASSIONBUILT
      @PASSIONBUILT  2 года назад +1

      No need to tap into the other line. We’re just adding an external cooler since there really isn’t one on the 4.2 model trailblazers. So we are teeing into one of the factory hardlines to allow the cooler to be installed.

    Just use the double flare cap for the bubble on your flares and skip the second step without it so they aren't sharp anymore and I won't be mad at you. You just need a little bubble. Won't leave a sharp edge and it makes the hose easier to slip on. That hurt me watching it. lol

      It’s been great. Since installing this cooler with a fresh transmission. I have had no issues at all. I’ve towed a couple of cars. No slips and no signs of the transmission getting too hot. I live in Florida and the heat is brutal down here. The cooler definitely helps keep the trans temps down.
