EVERY transmission should have a drain plug in the pan.
This man knows transmissions,he took it apart standing behind it not even looking inside lmao
Haha, yes Curt knows his stuff 👏
Dodge solenoid replacement
Finally a straight to the point explanation. I’ve seen so many videos of this 4l60e it hurts. Well done sir
Thank you Mike!
This guy makes it look like he can rebuild my dropped off transmission in 45 min to an hour.
Probably can
They can...i dropped mine off and i waited for it to be done (no joke) tool the guy less than an hour.
he probably can! I've seen my 700r4 get busted down before i could walk away from the table and sign papers
Don't insult people, he can probably do it in 10mins while fighting an aligator bare-handed and talking to the wife on the phone
Lubacote Mobile Quick Lube
Takes about 4 hours with experience and all the parts prepped and ready to go. Everything cleaned.......all parts ordered and sitting in front of you. This does include putting in all new bushings and adding a shift kit as well as measuring the clutch pack clearance.....which is important.
Studying this video saved me about 900 dollars.
THANK YOU
Outstanding video! Well paced, clear, nicely edited and highly informative. Thank you so much for doing this.
Informative, concise and no nonsense. The perfect RUclips video! 👍
No matter how many of these trans videos i watch, I'm still amazed at how many parts an Auto trans has in it! my 4L60e is in need of a rebuilt now (no 3/4), cooling line blew though.
I don't have transmission, but I watched this video with awe and read every comment and reply. Now I will have to get up early tomorrow to make up the time. Internet is great, but one can let it steal your productivity.👍
Thanks for this video, guys. Got an '01 Chevy Suburban 1500 5.3L that lost reverse and shifts hard from 2-3 and 3-4. Will definitely check these things out to see what we can do here in Virginia. Have a great day.
Looks like you've done this a few times. Great video. Very informative and I learned a lot. Just bought my first truck, an '01 Sierra 1500 with the 5.3.
Damn bro. U taught me more in less than 10 min than I have ever known about rebuilding a transmission
Man that was very important! But putting all that back together is what I would like to see!
Very well done. Nice to see a true expert in their field. Thank you.
thank you for making this great video. now i know exactly the problem and fix for my 93 silverado 2500 that whips my head back every time it shifts into 2nd gear.
No problem, glad we could help!
Well all these videos I’ve been watching are very spot on but now I’m hoping that I won’t have to go through all that with my P1810 code. I’ve dropped my pan waiting on the valve to come in. All the seals were broken and three of the five pressure plates don’t click. The name of the part is probably wrong so I mentioned the code. I have purchased a transfer case from Monster and it’s going great. The motor is a 5.3 in this 2003 Silverado
Wow. Thanks for making such an AWSOME video. I just today took my 92 Chevy Silverado in for the transmission to be rebuilt. I now have some more questions for them.
Glad it helped, educating yourself is always a great plan even if someone else is doing the work.
Wow, great explanation! Love the fact that you showed us using an actual transmission
Damn, this guy has fixed a few transmissions... great info! Would be nice to have a how-to rebuild video. Slower showing more details on techniques used for snap rings etc.
Thanks!
👍 curt nice guy. Takes his time to answer questions. Keep up the good work mate!!! Thanks
This video motivates me to take it easy on my 4l65e in my awd denali.
Some transmission shops doesn’t even want to rebuild your transmission and if the do they over charge you for it. Thanks for schooling us on doing our on work
I know this is edited but dame he's fast.
Thank u sincerely ,my s10 is 1870 w/ o 3+4th i think you just gave me the confidence to fix the p.o.s.thanks brother
Wow!! this video was very educational and entertaining to see the inner workings of these common transmission. well done sir..
Best class I've had in a while ,super video.
Thanks, we try 😏
Lots of great info quickly. Excellent video !!!
Thanks very informative. Been looking for this type of info for days. Would rather do work myself than take it to a shop. Transmissions aren't as scary as they look
Thank you. Good video. Mine was the sun shell that broke off
I've watched a few of these vids from Monster Transmission and I really like the no frills, get the info out format. Have a feeling I may be calling them soon, as my '02 Blazer is experiencing some transmission issues. Ah, the life of a car owner.
Straight up expert. thanks for the knowledge!
Yes, Curt knows his stuff 👌. Thanks for the feedback!
Awesome Vid... I was watching on my lunch break and I'm hooked! I wanna see more
Super video !!
Very descriptive, from beginning to end
Best 8 minutes of my day.
Thanks Joe! We try :-)
Ditto!!
This guy is ripping through this transmission and explaining everything like it's a walk in the park!
you're the man Curt !
Yes he is! Thanks for watching 🙂
Wow I love it when people know their stuff.
monster good job love all your videos learn a lot and fast you all get to the point fast thanks
Thanks for watching! Let us know if there are any specific topics you need covered
Thanks broski, finally someone explained the fix using the English language. Now I got the guts to work on it.
I want you to rebuild my 4L60E!
Your a badass! Started slipping 3rd & 4th
Great video!! Have had many high mileage 4l60s. I have never experienced those problems, but I have maintained them. I have heard of this before tho.
Exactly, you can avoid most issues by taking care of your transmission.
Monster Transmission you got it. That has been my experience.
Good video and good info. I have a 1994 Chevy Caprice 9C1. Have problems with the transmission shifting from 3rd gear to overdrive on the highway. This happens all the time. A lot of times I feather the pedal to keep her in 3rd gear at 45mph to 60mph.
I have a shift kit already in the transmission, would that hurt the 4L60E ? I would like a good shift kit in her, have stock 350hp 350 LT1. I only added headers to her.
If it is going in and out of 4th gear it could be low on fluid and or there could be a stuck valve in valve body. The 4th gear servo Teflon ring could be worn out or damaged. If its the servo it could also have a worn out band. The first thing to check would be the band clearance see if its too loose.
WHAT AWESOME BENCH CART IS THAT??!!
Mine blew other night. Havnt lift the truck yet to inspect it.
Hoping it’s just my rear differential, but could be wrong.
If it’s the whole trans ima need that sunshell in replacement. Good info
Wow! Outstanding and now I know I won't be doing anything that involved. lol you guys are amazing.
330k on mine...change fluid every year and keep Lucas no slip. Hot rod kids burn them out. Drive easy they last. Simple.
So true!
I just burned mine out going 0-60 on every stoplight do admit it was fun but the repair bill not so much fun 160k on mine
Exactly, I have 270.000 on my 05 Sierra, it has this tranny. I change mine and use lucas religiously. It still performs flawlessly.
mine lasted 390)))) after rebuild 210k miles... all stock except pinless accumulators, all 3
I have 323k on mine and I am babying it. About to change fluid and filter with some Lucas but scared to flush it because of all the "do not flush" videos online.
just tank you for this video these help me too much
Good video, lots to learn!!
Good stuff. I’m about to rebuild a 4L60 for my C5 Corvette and need to beef it up to handle a nitrous hit. Just added a few new parts to the list thanks to this video. 👍🏻
Glad we could help!
Thank you for this clear explanation!
Very good video and well spoken. Are the new front shell and piston stronger than the old oem?
Thank you. Replaced and modified the valve body. Great vidoe. 🎉
Thx for this great video.
Excellent Video!
Very informative video! But before I put money back in a 4 l 60 e... I would just get a 4 l 80 and be done with it... or even simpler a th400
Excellent video!
I just had to replace mine with a new one. Next time I’ll buy one from here because I’m actually really hard on transmissions.
Great video. Need to do every transmission for every make and model to date. Keep up the good work. Enjoyed video
Thanks J Kay, we're working on it! Any transmission in specific you would like to see next?
Monster Transmission 80e/t400
We'll get right on that!
I bought the SS kit for the 4L60E kit. Its good for 650 hp and 600Ft/lbs of torque. 427 SBC in front of it in a S10!
I'm glad there was no quiz after the vid. He made it look like you could do it in your driveway at lunch hour and be back at work by 1pm. LOL
Curt probably could do that and still have time to make a sandwich!
My brother bought his '95 K1500 in '03. We bought it from him for my son last year. He had never changed the fluid. Of course, shortly after I change all the fluids, I lose 3 - 4, go figure. Plan in doing a full heavy duty rebuild on it soon.
Nice! If you give us a call we can get you a quote for a transmission. We also offer some of the most complete rebuild kits on the market if you want to do the build yourself.
Great info!!!!! Def knows his stuff!!!
348k on my 93 4L60e and still going strong. I run Chevron dexron 3 and change it once a year. Shift into drive when towing.
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Thank you for info
Great Video, wish I could fix mine
That HITACHI impact is awesome.
Great video thank you for your help and God bless you!!
Awesome video thanks step by step
Happy to help!
This guy could put an airplane together in 2 hours lol
More like 8:09
Agreed that's a big affirmative. He's a mechanical champion, it's just facts.💪😎💪👍😁👌
I have got to build a new teardown bench. That one is very nice
Was thinking the same thing
If you look at that input drum that holds all the clutch packs. The input drum has the long input shaft coming out of the front of it. This input shaft is pressed Into that drum. However: where it is pressed in, can leak and cause a loss of pressure to the 3-4 clutch pack. Sonnax sells a kit to reinforce the drum and input shaft to hold it in there better. The part of the sonnax kit that makes it not leak is the fact that green loctite is used when the input shaft is pressed Into the drum. The green loctite is what seals it back up and many of these leak. Yours is probably leaking....there is more info on this so look it up.
Bottom line. If you are rebuilding this or fixing your 3-4 clutch pack problem. Take the input shaft out of the 3-4 drum and loctite it back in there. Should take care of that problem.
Changing the trans fluid every 60k will help increase the life of the transmission. Get a updated pan for cheap with a Drain plug to help with this. Makes life easier.
Next.......for $20 you can add so much life to this trans. He talked about the 3-4 apply seal hardening. This is caused by heat. Your trans run through the factory trans cooler at the radiator and sometimes has a factory external trans cooler in the heavier trucks, but it usually does not have an Xtra trans cooler.
You want an aftermarket trans cooler in there........AFTER the radiator trans cooler. Why after?
Because the transmission will be at whatever the thermostat is on the radiator. If you’re engine thermostat is 190° or higher. Your trans will be 190° or higher. We don’t want that. We want 170°
So.....you still keep your original trans cooler at the radiator. You keep that and run both the original and the aftermarket after it
This will make the trans run cooler and cool it back down to below what the engine thermostat is. It’s needs to be run after the radiator cooler on the fluid return back to the transmission. Any cooler will help.
Sonnax makes the best sun shell replacement and has a long list of other parts to keep this transmission alive. If you have a 700r4 or a 4l60e or any other transmission for that matter. Sonnax usually has upgrade parts to make it last longer. With the 4l60e.......sonnax has ......a lot of upgrade parts. By the time your done. 1/4 of the parts would be sonnax parts.
Either way.......run a better cooler
Thank you for the great additional information Jack.
Not trying to jump on your comment to advertise but to make it easier for anyone interested, here are some links to parts we offer that can also help.
You can upgrade the input drum and shaft for performance applications with this billet part: www.monstertransmission.com/4L60E-4L65E-4L70E-Smart-Tech-Input-Housing-Kit-with-Heavy-Duty-300mm-Input-Shaft_p_11538.html#.Xo85cohKiUk
You can use Burn Rubber Brewing Universal ATF to help take the guess work out of what fluid to use, we also recommend changing the filter when you do the fluid. We offer a whole kit here: www.monstertransmission.com/Monster-Transmission-Complete-Service-Kit-1-ATF-Kooler-Kleen-Conditioner-Filter-Pan-Gasket-Oil-Drain-Pan_p_18507.html#.Xo86cIhKiUk

I'm about to take off and rebuilt for fun . First time trying. See how it goes
Good hard working man. Has interest and pride in his work. When men like these are gone we are in trouble. The people Today will have to start by pulling their pants up. Maybe take an interest in work.
Thank you for the info
No problem Lyell!
Almost 350,000 miles on the original 4L60E transmission in my 96 Caprice. Been using Dexron VI for years and I change my fluid and filter regularly.
Nice!
Unfortunately, Dexron VI won’t keep the sunshell from failing.
When you switched from III to VI, did you notice that you could smell the new fluid after parking your car? I noticed a definite transmission oil smell like it was coming out of the vent maybe. No leaks.
TrakSpock1 had a Zr2 with 252,000 miles, off road all of the time, occasionally towed heavy thing's, kept the fluid and filter changed never had a transmission issue.
TrakSpock1 that's it! You got it!! Same here..
Good info 👍 Thank you
Love those vids, this one is used in Hummer H3
Awesome video. Thank yo.
This video is awesome!
Hell ya thanks. !!! Lots of info. With your help I think I can rebuild mine. Put a few more tutorials. In
Wow great video!!
Thanks Pete!
Great video! Ok so my wife shell is broken on her truck. I'm going to have them put the Beast Shell in like I have in my Sierra. The regular sun shell.is trash. I had 2 break on previous rebuilds.
Could you do a video on acceptable transmission temp ranges and when a cooler my be needed?
We have this video here that explains temperature ranges: ruclips.net/video/F7xhT_b6l7k/видео.html . And a cooler is always suggested. But if you are in hot environments, towing a trailer, or have high horse power you should definitely look into getting one.
hello, thank you so much for the information.
No problem! 🙂
Great video
Very informative vid
Awesome video
Sir Thank you for the video....
Very informative..thanks
Great video. My only complaint is that you don't have a shop in San Diego!
Planning to rebuild my 460le
Awesome! Give us a call at 800-708-0087 we can set you up with everything needed.
I’m glad he took that apart and not me.
Best video I ever seen
awesome video
Thanks!
Thanks good info
sweet video !!
Thanks man!
You're welcome, always happy to spread the knowledge of shift!
Dizamm, he is a boss, because I look at this with a whole lot of hell nah...
Great video! Have to ask though, how do you know if you should use the full reaming kit, or just the spring to clear up the P1870?
Michael Jones hopefully someone can answer that. 🤔
