- My fibroid surgery story.
A lot of people ask what a fibroids are when their doctor tells they they have them. This is the story of when I found out I had fibroids and why I finally decided to get surgery (open myomectomy) after waiting several years.
I went to 3 doctors in 2 states all to deal with 1 large fibroid.
This is my experience how I found out I had a fibroid and my decision to remove it.
I had an open myomectomy in July of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.. which made things a little more interesting.
I had my surgery at The Women’s Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.
(I am NOT a doctor.. this is just my experience)

Thank you for sharing your story 💕. I was told I had fibroids in 2014 but they were small and to NOT worry about them. I started having pain on and off in 2018 and underwent a minimally invasive surgery for my Fibroids in 2019 UFE (Urinary Fibroid Embolization). At the 6 month follow up they said they were shrinking and I was feeling better. However, 1 year later my pain returned and in 2020 and when they did an ultrasound they are measuring the size they were prior to the surgery which they said did not work. I’m have severe pelvic pain almost everyday now and my Dr. said I am not a good candidate for the minimally invasive myomectomy due to the size and number of fibroids. I have 8 (could be more) in total with the largest measuring 7cm as well. I’m 33 and want to have a child in the near future. I will be scheduling my open myomectomy this week. The part where you said “For anyone considering this surgery, JUST DO IT!” really resonated with me. I am hopeful to finally have some relief 🙏🏾😊 I’ve already been vegan 🌱 which helped with pain but also on a journey to increase my vitamin regime and holistic healing 🧘🏾♀️✨ once they are removed.
YES! I was totally nervous about getting the surgery, and had put it off for years. but im am SOOO glad that i had it done.

Thank you for posting this story. I went through the same situation last week, myoma surgery in the Covid pandemic. My fibroid was 10 cm in size and weighed half a kilo when it was removed. An open myomectomy was done and thank God it all ended well. I am currently also in the recovery phase. I wish all the best to everyone💪

Thanks for sharing your story. I just had my second open myomectomy 4 weeks ago. First time 10 years ago, I had 5 fibroids removed. The biggest one was 21 centimeters. Second time around, just 1 of 9 centimeters. Worst part for me was waking up from the anesthesia. The second surgery was way easier than the first, cause I already knew what to expect. Also, this time I tried to walk more, so that helped a lot with a faster recovery.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm glad your doing ok. This scared me when I found out early this year. They told me one of mine is 10 cm. I had a little cry about it later. It's just hard with no insurance and all the stuff that been going on. I'm trying to get help and stay focus though. This helps.

Mine is 10 cm as well. I’m kind of watchful waiting. I read that doctors recommend trying to conceive within six months of surgery.

Hi I saw a movie based from a true story of a lady who chose hyteroctomy. At the time she didn't want to have kids but later on changed h we mind. Only that there is nothing she could do about it. Just a thought and a plan B incase you change your mind and want to have your own child.

I consulted another doctor today and she said surgery is obvious but I could probably wait a month more for the covid situation to settle down a bit more. @@maryamkhn93 Ask for GNRH agonist, it is injections for stabilizing your blood level count and they shrink fibroids as well. I am on that medication right now.

Today’s mine 9th day of surgery. It was like dream. Feeling better day by day. My fibroid was 8cm but after surgery she didn’t show my fibroid. I have a 3 years one kid too.

Iodine therapy can shrink it. It's just a case is if you can stand waiting, if the fibroid is causing a lot of issues.

Hey! I have to have a hysterectomy with open surgery when Two large fibroids and several small fibroids 🤷 i.e. surgery on November 22, 2022. It's a bit exciting and also a bit scary because it's a big deal for me.I am 40 years old and have no children 👍. did you have a general anesthesia given to you or was it the spinal injection..they say general anesthsia has complications and they have a tube inserted to your throat
It took me 3 years to get my doctor to take my fibroid seriously. It is now 17 cm and I’m having an open myomectomy. None of the fibroid stories I’ve seen online have had anyone with one as big as mine 😢. I’m worried my uterine lining will be too destroyed to have kids.

Currently going through this now, except my largest one is 15cm. I have two that are 5cm each and many more under 4cm. I'm so exhausted and tired of the pain. Should be having my surgery in September or October.
I got a 7.5 cm and multiple smaller ones.. I'm going for a consultation on July 18 and I am ready to evict them, and hopefully they never come back!

I have 3 huge fibroids 15,10 and 8cm. No symptômes but my doc asked me to have it removed bécasse the 15cm one will end up causing me pb. Because of the 15cm size one and way it is positioned I will have a vertical open myomectomy and not the horizontal C section 😫. I am sooo scared i have been having nightmares. My surgery will be soon. I am do worried. Hopefully I only have those 3 fibroids and that they will be easy to remove. Though the doc said she is used to performing this surgery I am still scared.

Mine was half inside/half outside my uterus. It was weirdly positioned, so my doctor had to do open procedure.

I have the same story as you just about. One large fibroid, and it was removed last week via laparoscopic myomectomy. My fibroid was causing me to be super anemic to the point of passing out, and being short of breath constantly. I am glad you got it taken care of. I did have a question, was laparoscopic not an option? Thanks for sharing your experience.

How long was your sick leave after the operation?
It was about 6 weeks for FULL recovery

I had it done in 2013 for a 10 cm fibroid which wasn't causing me any problem. In 2016 it grew back. A new 10 cm fibroid. This time i decided not to do a surgery especially that my first one was a little useless and again i did not have any problematic symptoms. When problematic symptoms started to kick in, I ignored them all for like 3 years. In 2020, i went to 5 different professors. One suggested to remove my whole uterus because he thought it does not look good. I spent 6 months in depression. Long story short, I did my 2nd myomectomy last week. This time i had 29 fibroids one of them was huge 17 cm x 8 cm x14 cm. I looked like a 6 or 7 month pregnant. The operation was not easy and the pain was not light. I believe that my first myomectomy was unnecessary. I should have waited. As long as it does not cause any problems like bleeding or anything, just leave it. So I strongly disagree with you.

Why did you not have robotic fibroid surgery?
My doctor said robotic was not an option bc of the size and location of my fibroid.

@@Jeremiah29.11plumbob the tumor was bigger than basketball it had a softball size tumor on it and 12 golf ball size inside uterus. Surgery and recovery was easy thanks to all the youtube videos i used to prepare i was off pain meds after 3 days walking 3 miles after 3 days i was surprised it wasn’t as bad as i thought but i ended up with 4 hernias and had to get surgery again that recovery wasnt as easy but im good as nee now
