Having your first surgery can be pretty scary. When I had my first one I did a ton of research but there are still some things I wish I knew before getting the procedure.
So here are 5 things I WISH I knew before my first surgery and 5 things I'm GLAD I knew before it.
I had an open myomectomy to remove a large fibroid in July of 2020. Here is more when i found out i had a fibroid and my decision to get it removed.

My advice is to try to drink more liquid like water and tea,and have some soup. dont wait till you get the urgency to go to the toilet because you cant walk fast, every 2hours even if i dont feel like i need to pee I just go and it work. Everytime you used the bathroom you washed out gas and chemicals from all kinds of medicines that you get from the surgery.it took 3days till the pain and air in my stomach was gone. The pain of getting up and coughing it takes time. I just avoid eating salty food like chips or nuts or any food that might irritate my throat. My last advice is to stay calm dont get stress so you wont feel more pain and eat well healthy food and rest. Your body need it to heal faster.

Excellent video. My cousin had hip replacement surgery and she said having a Lazy Boy chair to sleep in really helped her, because as you said, sleeping in your own bed is just about impossible.
I am so happy I found your videos...I had my open myomectomy on 09/16, (today is 09/25) and I can relate to what you went through and felt on every level. I am so ready for the next 6 weeks to come and go so that I feel better and more like myself again. It’s so hard to adjust to not being able to do the most mundane things, like walking from one side of a room to another without feeling weak and winded. You helped remind me it’s all temporary. 💕
Megan Dawson awww, thank you!! It’s sooo crazy to see what your body goes through physically AND emotionally after the surgery. Like even walking and sleeping is difficult. I’m now 12 weeks post-op and feel great. It IS only temporary, and you’ll be back to normal soon!!

@@euniceasena3507 It went well. Very little pain. Still here at the hospital, they don't discharge you until you pass gas. I had a total of 15 fibroids removed in array of sizes. I've been walking around. Thanks for asking.

I've had a number of abdominal wall surgeries (more than 1--less than 6 :-) ), and my experiences were similar to yours.
There are constant internal reminders when you've moved too much. And, of course, it literally hurt to laugh. But some folks think that "laughter is the best medicine" and would attempt to make me do so. HA (ouch!) HA (ouch!) Ha (ouch!). Still worth it.
Believe it or not, after a year or so, you will have forgotten most (or all) of the discomfort you've just worked through. On the positive side--you have the experience now, and hopefully it won't be quite so frightening next time.
yes, this was my first surgery like i said. Its crazy how you move in a weird way and then youre like.. Oh yeah, im not fully healed.

I had a laparoscopic myomectomy a week ago.. my main tips for anyone
1. Bring two pillows for the drive home - My drive home from the hospital was 4 hours. We drove back two days after surgery (48hrs post op… realized later that’s the most painful time in recovery). I brought a large pillow to sit on and a small pillow to put between myself and the seatbelt. Took the strongest pain medication I was prescribed… it was much less painful than I expected and more just uncomfortable. Definitely recommend two pillows.
2. If you don’t have a heating pad, get one. It was my best friend this first week post-op.
3. I was terrified to be put under anesthesia. My experience might make anyone else feeling this way feel better - after they were done with pre-op prep, they had me get onto the operating table. I remember them handing me a gas mask, and then all of a sudden I was waking up on the recovery bed. It was seconds for me, but approximately a 5 hour surgery for everyone else.

Going in this Thursday for a laproscopic myomectomy and so nervous! Thanks so much for sharing all this info. I'm anxious about the anesthesia and the general feeling of crappiness during that first week or two of recovery. Ugh.

@@annomaly751 Yes! It's nowhere near as bad as you think it will be. The anesthesia was so easy- literally awake on second, out the next, and then you just wake up. Within about 15 minutes of sitting up in bed, I was walking to use the bathroom- I definitely felt the incision (laproscopic in my case so small but deep) so I just walked and moved super slow because that was what my body was telling me to do. The worst part's not the surgery, it's not the anesthesia, it's laying down and getting up. That hurts no matter what you do. If I did it again I would try to make a nest for myself on the couch rather than in bed at least for the first 2-3 days. That way I wouldn't have to go from flat on my back to upright. Heating pad on your abdomen does wonders. Try to walk a few days post op even if you move slowly. You'll heal a lot faster than you think and it will all be behind you soon! Best of luck!

I thought only for Laproscopy surgery for fibroid removal had the gas injected to your stomach..but do they do it for Openmyomectomy too? Seriously.....i was surggested to do Open myomectomy for the fibroid removal..I am so scared.....
Had my surgery about 2 weeks ago, my recovery has been fairly quick! The only thing I’m having issues with is walking, I’ve noticed that if i walk for long periods of time I get home and feel exhausted and my cut and my stomach burn, it feels extra swollen. I also have a lot of swelling near the incision, how long before your swelling went down?
It took a bit for swelling to go down.. at least a month. Waking was tough for me too, I was like hunched over for a while
Would you recommend it to someone who wants kids in the future but hasn't tried to be pregnant yet? I don't know if it's an issue yet. I just have heavy periods, but they're regular and controllable with cyklokapron medication. How do you feel today? Did they come back?

I had several consultations with numerous doctors… one gyno wanted to do a hysterectomy even though I told him that I would like to at least try to have children one day🙄 please advocate for yourself when dealing with doctors, research, research and research some more! My scar is not bad at all. It’s probably like 4 inches long. It’s across my bikini line. So can’t see it in bathing suit

Hey I’ll be 3 weeks post op this Tuesday, I’m still sore at the incision area and I noticed the bandage smells funky lol. Maybe because I’ve been getting it a little wet
